The 2016 ATS-V model of Cadillac is the first in the V-series to have the Twin Turbo engine, giving it an expanded performance range and better support in terms of track capability. This is the most powerful version of the twin turbo 3.6-Liter V-6 engine that gives a SAE-certified 464 horsepower with a torque of 445 lb-ft. The engine is backed by the usual 6-speed manual transmission with the Active Rev Match coupled with the no-lift shifting and launch control.
Cadillac however gives the option of the paddle-shift and 8-speed automatic transmission which enables the ATS-V to reach a maximum speed of 189 mph and to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. What makes the engine more unique is that the twin turbochargers are composed of low-inertia, lightweight titanium-aluminide turbines, connecting rods made up of lightweight titanium, and Cadillac’s patented low-volume and charge-air cooler.
All these combined contribute an optimal boost in the production of power and its immediate delivery. Around 90% of the engine’s maximum torque is available from a range of 2,400 to 6,000 rpm. This broad torque curve ensures that the engine is not only responsive but is able to sustain power at all the rpm levels.Read the entire article 2016 Cadillac ATS-V is first V-series model to have Twin Turbo engine
Sources inside General Motors Co. say that because the Cadillac CTS-V is so successful, it means that the ATS-V is sure to come next. The CTS-V considers Audi's Quattro, BMW’s M, and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG as its direct competition. The next-generation CTS is expected to share its Alpha platform with a softtop convertible and the ATS, a smaller sedan. In theory, the CTS-V’s LSA V-8 could be fitted into an ATS-V but that would take sales away from the CTS-V.
Instead, the ATS-V is targeting the next-generation BMW M3, which will be powered by a turbocharged inline-six.
Sources say that this is why the ATS-V will be given a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that will have an output of about 380 hp. In addition, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be available. It will be able to accelerate from zero to 60mph in less than 5 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed that exceeds 170 mph.Read the entire article Sources say Cadillac ATS-V will come with twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6

Quite a number of carmakers are already reducing or even stopping their lineup of diesel-powered vehicles, as sparked by the diesel emissions scandal at the Volkswagen Group. Nonetheless, German premium automaker BMW seems not affected by backlash against diesel engines. Instead, BMW has just confirmed its commitment to diesel technology.
As quoted by Australian magazine GoAuto at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, BMW AG board member for development Klaus Froehlich boasted of the carmaker’s accomplishments in the field of diesel technology. He remarked that from BMW’s perspective, the development of diesel engines is quite dramatic as the carmaker has managed to develop cleaner diesel-powered mills.
Moreover, Froehlich claimed at Paris that BMW has the best diesel engine, adding that all tests have shown that the German premium carmaker’s offerings have the lowest emissions among diesel-powered vehicles.Read the entire article BMW confirms commitment to diesel technology despite political opposition
When BMW finally commences sales of the heavily anticipated 8-Series Coupe, it will offer the all-new flagship in two powerful engine variants – a petrol-powered biturbo 4.4 liter V8 unit and a diesel-fueled 3.0 liter biturbo inline six mill. Nonetheless, there are customers hoping that new BMW 8 Series would be offered with a V12 engine or a plug-in hybrid drive, but the German premium has no plans for those.
Carsten Groeber, vice-president of product management at BMW Group, was quoted by Australian magazine GoAuto at the 2018 Paris Motor Show as saying that a V12-powered 8 Series won't happen. The BMW 7 Series -- the M760Li xDrive in particular – is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 petrol engine that can provide 601 hp (448 kW) of output and 590 lb.-ft. (800 Nm) of peak torque. This allows the M760Li xDrive to dash from zero to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
Groeber noted that the V8 engine and the in-line six unit already allows for a perfect weight distribution with the new 8 Series. Since the V12 engine is a very heavy mill, it would destroy this weight distribution, particularly making the front too heavy. He remarked that the V8-powered 8 Series is already a proper sportscar.Read the entire article BMW rules out V12-powered and plug-in hybrid version of new 8 Series
There have been no straight six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles since 2007, when Jeep launched the Wrangler JK generation. While Chrysler had been using straight six-cylinder engines since 1964, it eventually decided that it was already enough for this mill.
Just recently, rumors have been sprouting about the possibility of the rebirth of straight inline six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler. These rumors also came up in 2017, but so far, no inline six-cylinder engines have been confirmed or even spied. The latest speculation was a result of a published report from Allpar, the same Web site that reported a similar rumor last year. Of course, these are just speculations, and we don’t vouch for their authenticity.
According to Allpar, Fiat Chrysler is reportedly developing a new straight-six engine as a complement to the new GME four-cylinder mills. These smooth yet compact new straight-six engines are to be derived from the new GME four-cylinder units.Read the entire article Fiat Chrysler is rumored to be resurrecting straight six-cylinder engines
It is better not to expect any new diesel engines from Cadillac, the luxury vehicle division of General Motors. After all, following much considerations of a number of factors, the top management of Cadillac has now decided to stop the development of diesel engine within the luxury carmaker.
During the North American launch of the Cadillac XT4 compact crossover in Seattle, Washington, Cadillac President Steve Carlisle revealed that the luxury car brand is indeed re-evaluating diesel technology. He noted that Cadillac has been working on diesel technology. However, the conditions in the markets around the world – especially their attitude towards diesel engines – have been changing more quickly than the company has anticipated.
It is well known that for the past years, Cadillac had been concentrating its engine development works on diesel mills, in particular four- and six-cylinder units. This diesel engine development work forms part of the luxury carmaker to further penetrate the premium car market in Europe. In addition, Cadillac was also planning to create and offer a number of vehicles powered by diesel engines in the US. In fact, the new XT4 was slated to have a version powered by diesel engine, as slated to arrive before or by the end of the decade (2020). GM’s luxury division had also expected to introduce diesel engines in more of its models.Read the entire article Cadillac puts diesel engine development on hold due to declining demand
When Bugatti Automobiles unveiled the new Bugatti Divo, it announced that this new performance monster would be powered by the carmaker’s eight-liter W16 engine that provides 1,500 PS of output. Boasting of 16 cylinders in W formation – hence its name – the W16 is the same source of power for the Bugatti Chiron. The hypercar before the Chiron, the Bugatti Veyron, also had a W16 as its core.
Now, a source of pride at Bugatti, the W16 engine inside the Divo and the Chiron will have no replacement. This was revealed to CarAdvice by no less than the chief executive of Bugatti Automobiles, Stephan Winkelmann. The hypercar maker’s top honcho said that that there would be no new 16-cylinder engine, and the W16 will be the last of its kind.
Make no mistake; the W16 is still alive and kicking. It has been so since it was first installed under the hood of the Bugatti Veyron in 2005 or 13 years ago. In the first iteration of the Veyron, this W16 engine was tuned to deliver 1,001 PS (736 kW or 987 hp) of max output and 1,250 Nm (922 lb.-ft.) of peak torque. The final installment of the Veyron – the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse – had the W16 mill develop 1,200 PS (880 kW or 1,200 hp) of max output and 1,500 Nm (1,100 lb.-ft.) of peak torque.Read the entire article Bugatti won't have a new W16 engine, hints on making it more powerful
The engine is probably one of the most complicated elements of your car. Its workings are more complicated than you may think. It features many parts, components and accessories, one of which is the timing belt or the timing chain.
The timing belt and the timing chain aren’t the same thing, but they perform the same function -- mechanical engine timing.
They don’t coexist simply because they do the same work, which means the engine has either a timing belt or a timing chain. But before this article discusses the difference between a timing belt and a timing chain, it will talk about their importance.Read the entire article What are the differences between a timing belt and a timing chain?
One of the most important parts of any car is the engine. It is considered as the heart of the car, as it is responsible for bringing it to life. Without an engine, no power can be sent to the wheels and the car won’t be able to move. Every time your car is driven, the engine is put into work. Eventually, your car’s engine will stop from working after some time. After all, engines are designed to last for a long time.
The lifespan of engines aren’t measured by years, but by the distance the car has traveled. Essentially, most carmakers design and develop the engines of their cars to last more than 100,000 miles. Theoretically, if you drive around 100 miles each day in a year, you would have broken the 100,000-mile barrier in less than three years. If you are driving 50 miles a day, the barrier would be reached in five and a half years.
In the real world, there have been engines that went the scrap yards even before reaching 40,000 miles. There have also been engines that managed to last more than 300,000 miles on the road. There have been reports of few engines going beyond 500,000 miles. Just lately, more and more engines have been able to go beyond 200,000 miles before finally saying goodbye.Read the entire article What is the lifespan of the engine of your car?
There is no denying that a battery is important in a car. The battery is needed start the engine and is employed in stabilizing, filtering and providing the power for ignition, lights, electrical components and other accessories that need electricity.
Thus, a battery drain is always the dread of any driver. At worst, you won't be able to start your car. If you’re in a hurry to leave the garage for a trip, a drained battery can be your nightmare. Most of the time, a drained battery is caused – not by a malfunctioning battery or alternator -- by an electrical issue. This issue acts like a parasite that draws electric power from your battery. In this case, you car maybe suffering from an issue called parasitic draw or parasitic drain.
How would you know if the battery drain is caused by a parasitic battery draw? There is way to find out. But first, you need these tools and materials: a digital multimeter with a 20 amp fuse (as set to read 200mA), gloves and eye protection.Read the entire article How to find the causes of a car battery drain?
The engine is considered as the heart of any vehicle. It basically generates power that will be sent to the wheels, thereby propelling the vehicle. Without the engine, no vehicle can move. But no thanks to continued use and abuse, the car would get very dirty and would need to be cleaned up properly.
Cleaning an engine is job you can do. You can save some money as you don’t have to pay for the services of an engine cleaning professional. Nonetheless, it would be a great help if you have a guide on how you should you clean your engine. Below are the steps you can take to clean your car’s engine.
Step 1. Prepare the materials needed. You would need a bucket, gloves, bristled cleaning brush (or dish scrubber), water (preferably hot), water hose with trigger nozzle (or a spray bottle), shop vacuum (or an air hose), plastic bags and engine degreaser solution. You may also need safety glasses.Read the entire article 12 easy steps for cleaning the engine of your car
Due to dirt and debris, the windshield has to be cleaned. To do this, carmakers install a cleaning system that sprays washer fluid onto the windshield. Then the wipers are automatically turned on to clean the windshield. The fluid used to clean the windshield is sourced from a container called the windshield washer reservoir.
Usually translucent to allow you to see whether it is filled with washer fluid, the windshield washer reservoir is usually a part that doesn’t wear out after some time. This is because the windshield washer reservoir is made from high-grade plastic that are really very durable. Thus, when it sustains some damage, it won't be because of wear and tear. Most probably, the damage was sustained because of other issues like putting in other liquids aside from washer fluid, like water. When water freezes, it causes the reservoir plastic to harden. Once it thaws, the reservoir will sustain some cracks.
The windshield washer reservoir contains a pump that pusher washer fluid through plastic lines to the washer nozzles. The washer fluid is then sprayed onto the car’s windshield. If the windshield washer reservoir gets damaged, some of its parts and components might stop working. You might not be able to clear your windshield through the wiper spray. However, there are signs that may manifest if the windshield washer reservoir is failing or in bad shape. Knowing these would help you determine whether it is already time to repair often-times ignored element of the car.Read the entire article Diagnosing problems with the car’s windshield washer reservoir
One of the main reasons why the engine of your car keeps running despite of working in a high temperature environment is the installed cooling system. If not for this cooling system, the engine, its materials and lubricants can be damaged by high temperature.
The car’s cooling system isn't made up of a single application – it includes the radiator, a cooling fan, a water pump, coolant hoses and a thermostat. The coolant is circulated from the radiator, then around the engine and back to the radiator where it is cooled down anew. This circulation is made possible by the water pump, which is turned by a serpentine belt made from rubber and nylon cords.
Once this belt fails, the water pump wouldn’t work, and coolant wouldn’t be able to reach places where it should reach. As a result, the engine might overheat. In fact, most engine overheating problems are due to a broken water pump belt.Read the entire article How to tell if the water pump belt is already in bad shape?
Modern vehicles typically have engines that employ Variable Valve Timing or VVT. Because of VVT, a car can achieve more optimal levels of performance and fuel efficiency at any engine speed. Before VVT was developed, the timing for opening and closing the engine valves was only optimized for a single engine speed. But since engine speeds vary, having a single timing means a decrease in both power and efficiency.
Now, VVT can vary the timing of opening and closing of engine valves for multiple engine speeds. When the engine speeds get higher, inlet valves open earlier to allow more air-fuel mixture to enter the cylinders. At normal driving conditions, VVT isn't activated. But when extra engine work is needed, VVT is activated. Then the information will be relayed from the VVT to the vehicle computer by the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) switch.
However, the VVT switch will wear out or fail. This is usually due to lack of basic maintenance. Once the VVT switch fails, the vehicle won't be able to receive any input from the ECU (engine computer unit) to vary the timing of the opening and closing of the valves according to the situation. As a result, the vehicle may experience a decline in performance as well as a decrease in fuel efficiency.Read the entire article Signs that your car's Variable Valve Timing (VVT) switch is failing
In announcement just before the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Toyota disclosed that all-new Toyota Supra will stay faithful to its heritage by featuring an in-line, front-mounted six-cylinder engine as well as a rear-wheel drive system. However, Road & Track has come to acquire a document indicating that the new Supra might be also powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
While the prototype version of the Toyota Supra – wrapped in red, black, gray and white camouflage – impressed visitors at the 2018 Goodwood Festival Speed with its daily runs from July 12 to 15, this isn't the final model yet. This working concept essentially confirmed the arrival of the Supra, providing a glimpse on how the final model would look like. But despite showing the Supra to the public at Goodwood, Toyota didn’t disclose specific details, but only basic features and estimated numbers.
Not satisfied with the current amount of information available for the new Supra, Road & Track squeezed some connections and managed to get hold of a document from ZF, the German transmission maker that will supply the gearboxes for the Toyota’s newest sports car. This document is basically a transmission catalogue for the Toyota Supra, showing the Supra getting multiple entries under both the J29 and GT86 platform designations. According to the document, the power for the Supra will be provided by two engines: a 2.0-liter B48B20 and a 3.0-liter B58B30, both mated to an eight-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission.Read the entire article Toyota Supra sports car to be powered by four-cylinder and inline-six engines
It is always a good thing to know that there is something wrong with your car as early as possible. Aside from the fact that this would limit the damage that your car has sustained, it would also lessen the cost of repairs.
Remember: the greater the damage, the greater is the cost. The hard truth, however, is that not everyone knows how to determine whether something is already wrong with their cars. So, how would you know if your car is having some problems?
Simply put, there is something wrong with your car if it doesn’t look, sound, smell and feel good. You just have to use your senses to know if your car is having some problems. Generally, if something deviates from the usual thing, there could be something wrong. But of course, you can determine where these problems are, and leave the specific diagnosis and repair to your mechanic.Read the entire article How to Diagnose Your Car Problems?
Aston Martin Cygnet was best known as the rebadged version of the Toyota iQ city car. Initially sold in the United Kingdom, the Cygnet was considered a failure in terms of sales, and by 2013, it was dead. However, the Cygnet is resurrected from the dead as a commissioned one-off city car with around 430 bhp of potential under its hood.
Compared to its typical base model, the Aston Martin V8 Cygnet is dubbed as as the ultimate city car, both in looks and in power. Making its global debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the V8 Cygnet was commissioned by a customer via the British marque’s bespoke personalization service, the ‘Q by Aston Martin – Commission’ service.
The project started with the steel body shell and panels of a right-hand drive Aston Martin Cygnet, as welded to a roll cage. To accommodate the 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine from the Aston martin Vantage S, engineers create a new front bulkhead and transmission tunnel from sheet metal. Also fitted into the project are subframes and suspension from the previous-generation Vantage as well as a steel fuel tank housing (boot area).Read the entire article Aston Martin V8 Cygnet is a one-off ultimate city with 430 bhp of output
