IMSA wins will be celebrated with release of Championship Editions for 2018 Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V

Over the past racing season, Cadillac has seen a wealth of success on the track. In fact, they took home the IMSA Weather Tech championship for the 2017 season. On one hand, Konica Minolta took home the Team championship; and on the other hand, brothers Ricky and Jordan Taylor brought home the Driver’s championship. To celebrate their success on the track, the American automaker will offer a couple of minimally modified performance vehicles to mark this occasion.

Having said that, it will be the ATS-V coupe and sedan, as well as the CTS-V sedan that will be getting a special Championship Edition to celebrate the success. Customers can choose from two exterior finishes including Black Raven or Crystal White Tricoat.

To make it stand out from the rest of the models, it gets unique side view mirrors caps finished in Red Obsession. It also gets DPi-V.R. graphics on the quarter windows, red Brembo brake calipers, and forged polish-finished alloy V-Series wheels. All the red bits and pieces will definitely make it stand out from the rest. Don’t you think?

2016 Cadillac ATS-V is first V-series model to have Twin Turbo engine

The 2016 ATS-V model of Cadillac is the first in the V-series to have the Twin Turbo engine, giving it an expanded performance range and better support in terms of track capability. This is the most powerful version of the twin turbo 3.6-Liter V-6 engine that gives a SAE-certified 464 horsepower with a torque of 445 lb-ft. The engine is backed by the usual 6-speed manual transmission with the Active Rev Match coupled with the no-lift shifting and launch control.

Cadillac however gives the option of the paddle-shift and 8-speed automatic transmission which enables the ATS-V to reach a maximum speed of 189 mph and to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. What makes the engine more unique is that the twin turbochargers are composed of low-inertia, lightweight titanium-aluminide turbines, connecting rods made up of lightweight titanium, and Cadillac’s patented low-volume and charge-air cooler.

All these combined contribute an optimal boost in the production of power and its immediate delivery. Around 90% of the engine’s maximum torque is available from a range of 2,400 to 6,000 rpm. This broad torque curve ensures that the engine is not only responsive but is able to sustain power at all the rpm levels.

After few leaked photos, the all-new 2016 Cadillac ATS-V was finally introduced at the 2014 LA Auto Show. Available as a coupe or sedan, the ATS-V arrives with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that develops 455 hp (339 kW) and 603 Nm (445 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is offered with a standard 6-speed manual transmission featuring Active Rev Match, no lift-shifting and launch control, or with an optional paddle-shift 8-speed automatic transmission featuring launch control and Performance Alghoritm Shift.

The engine is able to push the ATS-V from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, while top speed is in excess of 185 mph or 298 km/h. According to the manufacturer, the vehicles arrive with a Brembo high-performance brake system, Magnetic Ride Control delivering 40 percent faster damping response and driver-selectable driving modes (touring, sport and track).

Braking system includes 14.5-inch-diameter (370 mm) front rotors with six-piston calipers and 13.3-inch-diameter (339 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers.

Cadillac has expanded its ATS product range with the introduction of the 2016 ATS-V. This is expected to elevate the brand’s high performance V-Series onward to the next generation. The new model is available in both sedan and coupe variants and is the brand’s first ATS-V that will have not just the twin-turbocharged power but also a complete set of design and even performance systems.

Production of the 2016 ATS-V started in the spring of 2015. Since its beginnings more than a decade ago, the V-Series of the Cadillac has added both power and performance capacities to an already increasing luxury car range. By drawing on what made its ATS product line successful, the V-Series adds a remarkable track capability to what many had already considered as not only the lightest but also the most agile-driving vehicle within the class of luxury compact cars.

The outcome is a car that has the sophistication attached with the Cadillac and a true track capability, making it a dual purpose vehicle. The President of Cadillac Johan de Nysschen said that the V-Series is not only the best example of the brand’s new product substance but it is also “the purest expression of the passion” which is the heart of the brand.

The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe will make its debut later this month at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, but the new vehicle already showed up on the Web. Comparing with the standard ATS Coupe, the new Cadillac ATS-V Coupe comes with a new front bumper with a smaller front grille as well as a bigger air intake, a new hood that highlights the powerful V6 engine as well as new side sills.

At the rear there is a new rear bumper with integrated air diffuser and an exhaust system with four tailpipes, as well as a new trunk spoiler. Moreover, there is a new set of multispoke wheels painted in black, which hides the high-performance braking system.

There are no details regarding the engine, but we do know that this new vehicle will use a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that will deliver around 450 hp (335 kW).

Sources inside General Motors Co. say that because the Cadillac CTS-V is so successful, it means that the ATS-V is sure to come next. The CTS-V considers Audi's Quattro, BMW’s M, and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG as its direct competition. The next-generation CTS is expected to share its Alpha platform with a softtop convertible and the ATS, a smaller sedan. In theory, the CTS-V’s LSA V-8 could be fitted into an ATS-V but that would take sales away from the CTS-V.

Instead, the ATS-V is targeting the next-generation BMW M3, which will be powered by a turbocharged inline-six.

Sources say that this is why the ATS-V will be given a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that will have an output of about 380 hp. In addition, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be available. It will be able to accelerate from zero to 60mph in less than 5 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed that exceeds 170 mph.

Insiders say that a Cadillac ATS-V is coming. With the V8-powered Cadillac CTS-V, General Motors has a model that could rival the Audi's Quattro, BMW’s M, and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG. The next-generation CTS will get an Alpha platform that’s shared with a softtop convertible and the ATS (a smaller sedan).

As the CTS-V is so successful, sources inside Cadillac are certain that the ATS is sure to be built. In theory, the CTS-V’s LSA V-8 will fit into an ATS-V; however, this could take sales away from the CTS-V.

Instead, the ATS-V will try to go up against the next-generation BMW M3, which will be powered by a turbocharged inline-six. Sources said that this is the reason for the ATS-V being powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that could generate about 380 hp.
