The battle for dominance in the market for large, luxurious body-on-frame sports utility vehicles is already heating up even before Ford commences sales of its new Lincoln Navigator SUV. This comes as GM decided to offer a trade-in deal that sees $5,000 off a new Cadillac Escalade.
Ford is all set to begin sales of the new Navigator SUV sometime next week. It is a massive improvement over the current iteration. There is also a massive step-up in price, with the new Lincoln Navigator having a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $72,055. As a new generation vehicle that boasts of being a far cry from the current version, the Lincoln Navigator is attracting a lot of attention, and that could potentially translate to huge sales.
On the other hand, GM is offering the Cadillac Escalade for the 2018 model year. While it is not an outgoing model, the 2018 Cadillac Escalade hasn’t received major enhancements since the 2015 model year. Although the Cadillac Escalade is expected to remain a dominant force in its segment, its sales superiority is being challenged heavily by the new Lincoln Navigator. In short, GM will be having its hands full defending its position in the luxury SUV segment until it rolls out a new generation -- or even a major update -- of the Cadillac Escalade.Read the entire article $5,000 discount is offered for trade-ins of Lincoln Navigator for 2018 Cadillac Escalade
Only a few people would have the guts and the money to ask for all of the customization options for a vehicle. And Dr. Dre is one of them. Dr. Dre recently received the delivery of a 2016 Cadillac Escalade ESV. This is not your ordinary Escalade, which is Cadillac’s flagship SUV. This is the ESV. This is the longer version of the Cadillac full-size SUV.
Typically, the Cadillac Escalade ESV fetches a price that does not even reach hundreds of thousands of dollars – standard trim starts at $73, 965 (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees -- even when equipped with the top and latest specs and features.
However, the fully customized Cadillac Escalade – a work of custom luxury tuner Becker Automotive Design – reportedly stripped around $200,000 off Dr. Dre’s pockets. That amount would be just a penny for the man, considered that he is thought to have a net worth of around $700 million.Read the entire article Dr. Dre’s new maxed out Cadillac Escalade ESV cost him around $200,000
Strong demand for the Cadillac Escalade SUV amid has prompted the carmaker to increase its output. According to Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, production of Escalades at GM’s Arlington, Texas, assembly site will be expanded to bring over 2,000 more SUVs – which means the luxury brand has an annual supply of 32,000 trucks.
In 2013, Cadillac managed to sell 30,469 MY2014-2015 Escalade and Escalade ESV models. Supply for the Escalade has been tight since its launch last year, with dealers saying that customers who purchased the SUV had to wait for a month or more before receiving their units since the vehicles were being held at the plant for quality inspections and last-minute fixes.
GM product chief Mark Reuss remarked that the carmaker has taken extra time to get the SUV’s hand-stitched interior right. “We’re learning how to make that at rate with high quality,” Reuss said.Read the entire article Cadillac hikes output of Escalade SUV over strong demand
While executives at Lincoln say that the 2015 Navigator is a moderate refreshening, the full-sized luxury SUV is actually expected to retake the lead in a segment the brand pioneered in the 1990s but eventually lost to the Cadillac Escalade.
Lincoln is hoping that the 2015 Navigator would serve as a reminder that the brand is still one of the dominant names in the luxury car industry, preparing customers to the real deal after two or three years when Lincoln rolls out a redesigned Navigator.
While Lincoln executives won’t discuss future product plans, industry analysts expect the new Navigator to bear an aluminum body. Lincoln was credited with creating the full-size luxury truck-based SUV segment, rolling out the MY1997 Navigator in 1996.Read the entire article Lincoln refreshes Navigator to announce it is still alive, challenge Escalade

Under the hood, it comes with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 420 hp and 420 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque, bolted to a six-speed transmission. As a result, Hennessey Performance (HPE) unveiled their HPE550 Supercharged Escalade. Described as the perfect balance of attitude, performance and luxury, the HPE550 Escalade offers several upgrades. The most important upgrade is the belt-driven supercharger producing 6 psi of boost pressure that boosts the 6.2-liter V8 engine to 557 hp and 542 lb-ft (734 Nm) of torque.
Still, the extra power is nothing without reliability, so Hennessey added an air-to-water intercooler system that keeps charge temperatures low, while the recalibrated engine management computer optimizes the air/fuel ratio throughout the rev range. This upgrade costs $15,950 (installed) and has a 3 year/36,000 mile powertrain warranty.Read the entire article Hennessey HPE550 boosts the 2015 Cadillac Escalade to 557 hp

Chrome sure does add to the glitter and perceived value of a car -- but that was years ago. In fact, the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, which is historically chrome-laden -- is now sporting none of this shiny and bright metallic finish. Instead of chrome, the 2015 Escalade features flat-finish brushed metal and aluminum.
Clay Dean, executive director of Cadillac advanced design, remarked in August, while showing off Cadillac's Elmiraj coupe concept, that "chromes are so yesterday." He remarked that natural-finish metal, titaniums, brushed aluminums are cleaner and more elegant. According to Dean, toned-down metals are more versatile, since they enable vehicle designers to tinker with subtler contrasts between the metal and paint finish.
He remarked that darker metallics can be employed to "get very aggressive or very sinister" on a performance vehicle line like the Cadillac's V series. As for using chrome, Dean just said "We've been there," adding that there is a "more genuine way of showing natural metals."Read the entire article GM does away with chrome, starting with 2015 Cadillac Escalade

Bob Ferguson, senior vice president of global Cadillac, remarked after unveiling the redesigned 2015 Escalade that that there is “a lot of equity in Escalade,” adding that he would like to “explore the notion of other vehicles” that would carry the brand name.
Ferguson noted that customers have different tastes with regards to vehicle types. He said that while some people love a certain vehicle, there are others who would say that they like another type of vehicle that offers a different ride and a different experience.
According to Ferguson, product planners at General Motors "are still looking at" a large unibody crossover to complement the Escalade SUV, which is still underpinned by a truck-like body-on-frame platform.Read the entire article Cadillac mulls adding large crossover under Escalade name

Cadillac, GM’s luxury brand, is considering a plan to develop a new flagship sedan and two-seat sports car, according to newly appointed Cadillac global vice president Robert E. Ferguson during an interview with The Detroit News. He also said that the Escalade’s interior will receive an upgrade.
GM had previously said that it is developing a flagship sedan for Cadillac that won’t just define the brand but will also be competitive against cars such as the BMW 7 Series and Lexus LS. The 2013 Cadillac XTS full-size sedan could be the largest sedan in the brand. However, the front-drive-based four-door isn’t a flagship car. Ferguson said that when people see the flagship sedan, they will say, “Wow, Cadillac is smoking.”
Cadillac is also developing a sports car. He admitted that GM executives have entertained the possibility and that the approval of this car will depend on how the market responds to the new 2014 Jaguar F-Type. Cadillac had previously made the two-seat Corvette-based XLR convertible and the front-drive Allante convertible.Read the entire article Cadillac to develop two-seat sports car, new interior for Escalade
Cadillac will unveil its next generation Escalade at an auto show within the next 12 months, as implied by the carmaker’s marketing chief Don Butler. However, the redesigned big sports utility vehicle is not expected to reach showrooms until late 2013. Cadillac is known for implementing methodical ways to achieve nimble performance, and the Escalade is expected to provide drivers with a statement – thanks to its body-on-frame strength and dynamic looks.
Cadillac has a wide range of options to offer to its customers with its fast-expanding vehicle lineup. For instance, according to Butler, customers who want no-compromises, the biggest, the most comfortable, and the fiercest-looking vehicle on the road could settle for the Cadillac Escalade.
For customers who want to make a technological statement and associate with a carmaker that’s environmentally responsible, they could opt to choose the Cadillac ELR, the company’s future plug-in hybrid sports car due to be unveiled in 2013, Butler said. As for the next generation Escalade, interested buyers could expect a modestly better fuel economy, without experiencing compromised built and weight.Read the entire article Cadillac set to debut next-generation Escalade SUV within a year
