In the United States, not many automakers offer crossovers with a diesel engine option, but Chevrolet does, with their 2018 Equinox. Those who opt for this engine will get some a boost in fuel economy as the car had been recently rated to have a highway fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon. Whereas the 1.5 liter turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine was rated with 32 miles per gallon while the 2.0 liter has 29 mpg. When the diesel tank is filled to its maximum, it can reach 577 miles (929 kilometers).
Though the company has not said anything else regarding the Equinox Diesel’s fuel economy figures, we noticed on the company’s presentation that it has a 32 mpg combined mileage. If the company confirms EPA’s numbers, then the said model will be the most fuel-efficient crossover in the country, a great feat considering that it does not have some kind of electrification.
Other than being fuel efficient, we can also say that the Equinox is extra silent compared to its counterparts. Apparently, its 1.6 liter Ecotec diesel powerplant is 65 percent more silent than the Jaguar F-Pace’s 2.0 liter diesel, at 4000 rpm, and is 55 percent less noisy when the car is idle.Read the entire article 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel gets a 39 mpg highway rating
When Chevrolet came out with the 2018 Equinox last September, the facelifted model was offered in a diesel option for the first time, plus it weighed much less at 400 pounds (181 kilograms). Now, we have an idea how much the diesel variant will cost us.
First off, the base trim with the 1.5 liter turbocharged engine starts at $27,695, while the gas-powered Equinox LT costs $30,090. Now, the diesel equivalent of the LT is asking for $31,435 including destination according to CarsDirect. That makes it more expensive than the two other gas models. Specifically, there’s a gap of $1,345 compared to its counterpart 2.0-liter LT gas engine and a $3,740 difference with the 1.5-liter turbo engine.
With the extra few thousands added in, you will also get 17-inch aluminum wheels, cloth seats, and a 7-inch infotainment system that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want a slightly wider infotainment system, with multiple USB ports and a power sunroof, you can add the Sun and Infotainment Package for an extra $2,395.Read the entire article Be ready to pay a bit more for the diesel-powered 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
Chevrolet has already given out the pricing for some of its 2018 Equinox models. Not only will the new Equinox be available in both the US and Canada, it is also expected to roll out in 115 other countries worldwide at the end of next year. What we have right now are the initial prices for its Canada and US consumers.
The 1.5 litre turbo is priced for as low as $26, 995 CAD or $24,475 USD. Prices for all variants are not given out entirely, but the entry-level will be fitted with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing as much as 170hp and 201 lb-ft of torque with estimated fuel returns of 31mph.
Other engines will be offered in a much powerful 252hp 2.0 litre turbo engine that delivers up to 260lb-ft of torque. This probably will come with GM’s latest 9-speed automatic transmission.Read the entire article 2018 Chevrolet Equinox: Initial pricing released for US and Canada
Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-sized crossover SUV created by Chevrolet for General Motors. First introduced in 2004, this GM Theta unibody platform crossover SUV came into production the following year and has since then become the Chevrolet’s most popular crossover SUV. This year, the American automaker unveiled its third generation model set to dominate the streets and battle crossover rivals in the likes of the Ford Escape and Honda CR-V, to name a few.
The new Equinox has a brand new platform similar to the new Buick Envision. It has also become lighter and shorter by shedding 400 pounds and 4.7 inches, respectively. Intended to have a more chiselled look, the latest Equinox has a stiffer and stronger aura with a slight hint of Chevrolet’s popular double-tiered grille. Accentuating its new nose are a couple more angular standard LED headlights while the rear rectangular taillights function to highlight its width.
To add to the surprises, the interior was modified to reflect a modernized and an added sophisticated look. In one photo released to the public, the cabin is draped in a two-toned combination of light brown leather and black accents. It has also a MyLink infotainment system that support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and quite surprisingly, an OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Its passenger seats now have a new fixed design, eliminating the fore/aft adjustability in the second-row split bench, giving more legroom and more storage capacity when the backs are laid flat.Read the entire article Chevrolet unveils restyled 2018 Equinox, comes with 3 turbocharged engine options
The new 2016 Chevrolet Equinox compact SUV has been updated to feature a new style and new wheel designs, as well as a larger color touchscreen radio and a standard rear-vision camera (entry-level models). The new Equinox also comes available with new safety features.
Building on its huge sales success in the compact SUV segment -- with five years of record volume -- the new Equinox is all ready to further reinforce Chevrolet’s already broad sport utility lineup. Up for sale starting fall 2015, the Equinox is expected to continue the brand’s SUV commitment along with the Chevrolet Traverse, Trax small SUV as well as Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs.
Alan Batey, president for GM North America, called the Chevrolet Equinox as a pillar of the compact SUV segment, as made possible by its great style, safety, connectivity and efficiency. He added that the enhancements made to the new Equinox make the compact SUV a more appealing proposition while showing Chevrolet's commitment to have the broadest lineup of SUVs in the auto industry.Read the entire article 2015 Chicago Auto Show: 2016 Chevrolet Equinox makes its official debut
While General Motors and the UAW have announced the shift of production of the Cadillac SRX from Ramos Arizpe, Mexico to Spring Hill, Tennessee. Still, Reuters has also learned from sources that the carmaker is also planning to move some production of the Chevrolet Equinox from other way around.
GM is planning to shift output of the Equinox from Spring Hill to Ramos Arizpe when the crossover is redesigned in 2017, partially offsetting any new jobs created by the shift of SRX work by mid-2016, the source told Reuters. Reuters estimates that addition of the SRX at Spring Hill would create around 200 jobs.
A GM spokesman remarked that it would be fair to say there would be a net increase in the number of workers at Spring Hill. UAW President Dennis Williams has said in a statement that the shift of SRX production was "a big victory" for the union, which declined to disclose the number of jobs to be added in Spring Hill.Read the entire article GM to shift some Equinox production to Ramon Arizpe site in Mexico
A Chevrolet commercial uploaded on YouTube featuring a dying dog is creating waves. The 60-second emotional Equinox spot -- produced and uploaded Herd Films, features a dying Golden Retriever named “Maddie.” Its owner is saying goodbye to the dog and suddenly, the story goes backwards – showing scenes like her birthday celebration, her breakup with her boyfriend, her college graduation, her move into her apartment until when she was still a little girl picking a puppy from a litter and naming her Maddie.
"A best friend for life's journey," spot notes as the family enters into their Equinox after buying the pup. Because of the spot’s appeal to emotion, most people loved it and a few criticized – but overall it was an overwhelming success as it has already attracted nearly 1.4 million views on YouTube. Chevrolet, however, has never actually aired “Maddie,” according to said spokeswoman Cristi Vazquez.
The spot’s producer, Herd Films, was one of 13 finalists in an Oscars film contest conducted by Chevrolet and MOFILM. It was Herd Films, not Chevrolet, that posted the spot to YouTube, Vazquez said. When asked if Chevrolet has plans to air “Maddie,” Vazquez replied, “Not right now."Read the entire article “Maddie” spot for Chevrolet Equinox is a hit on YouTube
About 140 markets worldwide will get the all-new Trax SUV from Chevrolet but don’t expect it to be offered in the U.S. This is because the automaker thinks that the next-generation Equinox would be more than sufficient for the consumers in the U.S. GM InsideNews sources said that the Trax is based on the Buick Encore.
Under GM‘s Delta architecture, we learned that the next Equinox, which is smaller, will serve as the replacement of the Captiva. With this change in architecture, GM will be able to build the Equinox in other continents easily.
Even if GM doesn’t intend to offer the Trax to the U.S. anytime soon because of its similarities with the Equinox, this model is federalized to be available in the U.S. if GM changes its mind. GM believes that presently, the Trax is more appropriate for its other markets around the globe where there is more fragmentation in the crossover segment. It’s likely that the next-generation Equinox will be released in 2015.Read the entire article 2015 Chevrolet Equinox will get smaller, push the Trax out of the U.S.
Due to increasing popularity of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers with four-cylinder engines, General Motors is having problems keeping up the supplies with the high demand. For two months, GM has been forced to restrict dealer orders for 2.4-liter four-cylinder vehicles, which account for a majority of Equinox and Terrain sales.
The restriction has prompted several dealers to order more 3.0-liter V-6 models than they would have preferred amid the surging fuel prices. Jim Cain, GM spokesman, confirmed that the company has placed "temporary order limits" on four-banger versions of the Equinox and Terrain.
"It's a function of a strong industry, a hot vehicle and very robust demand for the four-cylinder model," Cain said, adding that the company is working with its suppliers to increase deliveries of key components to meet demand. GM already informed its dealers that the shortage is temporary, although it did not specify when it expects the problem to be solved.Read the entire article GM supply fails to meet demand for four-cylinder Equinox and Terrain models
General Motors is investing $61 million so that it could start producing the Chevrolet Equinox small sport-utility vehicle at its facility in Spring Hill, Tenn., in the second half of 2012. With this project, GM will create 685 jobs, of which 91 are salaried. According to UAW President Bob King, the fact that assembly work has returned at the plant for the first time since 2009 is proof of the cooperation between the union and the car companies.
King said that he will draw attention to the work expansion at Spring Hill as he continues to work to organize non-union Japanese, German and South Korean auto plants that are primarily located in the U.S. South.
Cathy Clegg, head of labor relations at GM, said that Spring Hill is known for being one of GM’s “most innovative and flexible plants." Last September, GM announced broad outlines of plans for the expanded work when it entered a four-year labor deal with the UAW.Read the entire article GM will build the Chevrolet Equinox small sport-utility vehicle at its Spring Hill
Chevrolet’s Equinox SUV for 2012 has received updates so that it could be more appealing to the market. The highlights include MyLink wireless connectivity, personalized infotainment options and fresh safety-boosting features. Russ Clark, director of Chevrolet marketing, said that since the current generation started selling in the middle of 2009, it had sold each Equinox that has rolled out.
However, Clark clarifies that the company isn’t relying on this momentum. He added that the automaker is offering the vehicle, with its technologies, at “very attractive prices.” The MyLink infotainment package consists of Pandora internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio that are integrated with hands-free voice and touch-screen controls with the use of Bluetooth-enabled phones.
In addition, it comes with wireless control of smartphones, improving on the voice-activated Bluetooth hands-free calling capability. These are all seen on a seven-inch, high-resolution, full-color touch screen display. Buyers can also opt for the 2012 Equinox to be equipped with the $295 crash-avoidance system on the LTZ trim level, which comes with a single camera to assist drivers in avoiding front-end and unsignalled lane departure crashes.Read the entire article Chevrolet Equinox receives some important updates for the 2012MY
General Motors has announced the recall of over 36,000 units of the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain small crossovers around the world. GM is tasked to fix the tire pressure monitoring system in these cars. The automaker said that due to this defect, the driver may not be informed when the tire pressure drops below federal standards. In a statement, GM said that underinflated tires can lead to overloading and overheating, which could result to a blowout and possible crash.
When tires are prematurely worn out, it could result to poor handling and fuel economy. Almost 34,000 of the vehicles covered in this recall are in the U.S. The remaining cars are spread out in Canada, Mexico and six countries located in the Middle East. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the vehicles were made between July 18 and Sept. 6 of 2011.
A warning light is supposed to show when the tire pressure is 25% lower than the recommended levels for cold tire pressure. In these vehicles being recalled, the warning light only turns on when the tire pressure has fallen more than 25% below recommended levels.Read the entire article GM recalling 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain to fix the tire pressure monitoring system
Combining General Motors’ eAssist (a new light electrification system) with a very fuel efficient four-cylinder engine enabled the automaker to set a new fuel economy record for two sedan segments. This simple but highly advanced tech system resulted to extensive fuel economy improvements with minimal added costs.
Several GMI sources said that GM has lined up two of its most successful crossovers to have electric versions. It was also revealed that GM will use the eAssist on the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers. These two crossovers will become electrified for the 2014 model year and will use the system featured on the existing eAssist sedans. Initially, GM had intended to delay electrifying the small utes until their next redesign scheduled for the later part of the decade.
But GM changed its decision and now moves for the current eAssist to be used earlier, according to GMInsideNews. The reason for making this change is related more to manufacturing than fuel economy. When the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu would be launched exclusively with the eAssist system, GM believes that there will be major drop in the demand for the eAssist variant (named Malibu Eco) as soon as the car’s all-new 2.5-liter engine goes on sale later in 2012 as it is a cheaper option.Read the entire article Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain to receive GM’s eAssist

General Motors has issued the recall of 111,136 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX vehicles, which are all from the 2011 model year. GM discovered that the seat belt buckle anchors are weak and may fail to perform as required in case of a crash. To date, there have been no reported injuries or deaths related to this defect.
In a press release, GM said that these vehicles were fitted with a seat belt buckle anchor with cracks that may lead to a fracture if the buckle is rotated in a certain way.
In a crash, this may contribute to peak seat belt loads. GM added that if the buckle anchor separates, the risk of injury increases as the seat belt system will no longer be able to restrain the occupant in a secondary impact.Read the entire article GM recalls 2011 Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Cadillac SRX over seatbelt defect
Regular production of the Chevrolet Equinox in the Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant, has started this week. General Motors Co. is doing this as part of the “Equinox Shuttle” plan, which is meant to boost production of its two top-selling crossovers. Aside from the Equinox, GM will also move to increase production of the GMC Terrain.
The extra production capacity at the recently built body shop at the CAMI Automotive Inc. plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, will be used to shift Equinox bodies about 125 miles from the CAMI plant to Oshawa for final assembly.
As a result, the CAMI plant, which operates on three shifts, can boost production of the GMC Terrain. CAMI had been a joint venture between GM and Suzuki Motor Corp.; however, GM bought Suzuki’s half of the company last December.Read the entire article GM begins production of the Chevrolet Equinox at the Oshawa plant
To ease the shortage of Chevrolet Equinoxes and GMC Terrains, the Canadian Auto Workers has proposed a plan for General Motors Co. to build the models in Oshawa, Ontario.
North American President Mark Reuss said that to make more crossovers that are currently being assembled in Ingersoll, Ontario, GM may add production or reopen plants.
After emerging from bankruptcy, GM was left owning two idled plants that don'´t have plans for products: Spring Hill, Tenn. and Janesville, Wis. General Motors Co.'s dealers, frustrated by low supplies of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, probably will have to wait until midyear for a typical 60-day supply of the crossovers, GM sales chief Susan Docherty said last week.
On Jan. 1, GM had a 13-day supply of the Equinox and an 18-day supply of the Terrain. The 2010 Equinox was redesigned last June and the 2010 Terrain was launched in August.
In early September, Docherty said that she had believed, along with her team, that the industry will have a comeback at the back half of the year, she disclosed in an interview at the Detroit Auto Show.Read the entire article GM’s dealers frustrated by low supplies of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain
General Motors Co.'s plant in Oshawa, Ontario, in order to meet the demand for the Chevrolet Equinox crossover. Currently, the Equinox and the GMC Terrain are being assembled in Ingersoll, Ontario, at the CAMI plant.
Previously, GM said that it will expand CAMI's body shop, but now, GM released a statement, saying that it will deliver those body assemblies to Oshawa for painting and final assembly.
The third shift will start this October. About 600 workers will be returning to the plant. With this expanded CAMI body shop, all laid off workers will be asked to return.Read the entire article GM will add a third shift to meet consumer demand for the Equinox crossover
Chevrolet is all set to unveil the new MY2010 Chevrolet Equinox compact crossover at the North American Auto Show in Detroit next month. According to Ed Peper, GM North America vice president for Chevrolet, the new Equinox’s exterior design is inspired by the Chevrolet Malibu sedan and Traverse crossover – boasting of attention to detail and unexpected features. The Equinox’s design bears Chevrolet's signature global face -- the two-tier grille and prominent gold Bowtie insignia.
Peper said that defining the Equinox as a true Chevrolet are elements like strong fender shapes, a unique premium roofline, wraparound headlamps and dual round tail lamps. The compact crossover also features a multi-dimensional hood and wraparound rear side glass as well as a wheels-at-the-corners stance. Engineers were able to achieve better aerodynamic performance thanks to carefully designed exterior features like the base of the windshield being moved forward by around three inches (75 mm).
Also, the Equinox's rocker panels are integrated into the doors for easier ingress and egress. These narrow the area over which an occupant must step, thereby protecting pant legs from brushing against dirty rockers. Likewise, the vehicle’s chrome trim, flush-fitting "exposed-edge" windshield and rear glass reduce wind noise while boosting its build quality. The Chevrolet Equinox retains its wheelbase length at 112.5 inches (2,857 mm), but is around one inch (25 mm) shorter and an inch wider.Read the entire article Chevrolet unveils 2010 Equinox at the Detroit Auto Show
