Hennessey Goliath 6X6 is 705-hp off-road monster with optional 808-hp upgrade

Here comes a 6x6 pickup truck that can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. It isn't only mean and fully capable, but is also menacingly fast. We are referring to the all-new Hennessey Goliath 6X6, the latest creation of North American automotive tuner Hennessey Performance (HPE).

The new Hennessey Goliath 6X6 is essentially HPE’s follow-up to the VelociRaptor 6X6, which was unleashed in 2017. While the VelociRaptor 6X6 sounds faster than the Goliath 6X6, the latter is actually quicker on the sprint.

HPE created the Hennessey Goliath 6X6 from a Chevrolet Silverado, in particular from a Trail Boss Z71 model. This version of the Silverado was already a capable machine off the road. But HPE transformed it into a creation that most off-roaders would crave for.

2019 Chevy Silverado is lighter by 450 pounds, choose from 8 trims

It seems like it is now the year of pickup trucks. Adding fuel to this growing opinion is Ford’s recent announcement that they will bring the Ranger back to the United States, and now Chevrolet’s newest Silverado in the 2019 model year had just made its debut in Detroit, ahead of the 2018 North American International Auto Show. This may not be the first time we are seeing this, as we saw the Z71 Trailboss trim last month, but this time, we are seeing the complete eight trim levels.

What makes the new Chevy Silverado unique is that it has dropped some weight. It is now 450 pounds lighter than its predecessor. This was made possible with the new mixed-material construction, combining both aluminum and steel throughout the truck’s body. Aluminum control arms in the suspension also save weight while improving rigidity.

Mark Reuss, GM’s boss, boasts about the Silverado’s bed, calling it the most functional bed of any full size pickup. That is because it will be offered in different lengths and is now seven inches wider than before. There will also be as much as seven cubic feet of lockable storage space over the wheel wells. A power tailgate can be controlled from inside the truck too, and is a first in the industry.

Chevrolet treats Legends members to a sneak-peek of 2019 Silverado

Chevrolet really does know how to celebrate 100 years of truck heritage. While unveiling a new product doesn’t really count as a celebration, Chevrolet did it very spectacularly during a special event – by dropping the next generation of the Chevrolet Silverado from the sky at Texas Motor Speedway.

The brand was actually celebrating its centennial anniversary at Texas Motor Speedway, with around 600 members of Chevy Truck Legends – a community of loyal Chevy truck owners. These customers have already purchased or leased two or more Chevrolet trucks, or have owned a current body-on-frame Chevy with at least 100,000 miles on the odometer. These loyal owners were able to view new and old models. The best part of all was to see the next-generation Silverado before the truck’s official debut at the upcoming 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

What transpired was an exclusive sneak peek of the carmaker’s newest creation, the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. While members of the Legends were busy looking back at Chevrolet’s 100 years of heritage, a helicopter -- a big Sikorsky emblazoned with a Chevrolet logo – flew in while lifting a 2019 Silverado over the massive 20,633.64 square feet Big Hoss screen display, and then dropped the new truck onto the tarmac. Then the 2019 Silverado was driven to the stage where it was introduced.

Centennial Edition of the 2018 Chevy Colorado and Silverado will be out soon

Believe it or not, the first time Chevrolet produced a truck was 100 years ago, and to celebrate their 100th year in 2018, the automaker will make special-edition trims for the Silverado and the Colorado. To make it even more exclusive, both models were painted in Centennial Blue, and have exclusive heritage-styled bowtie emblems and badges that spell “100-year” that were inspired by Chevy trucks from 1918 and beyond.

The Centennial treatment for the 2018 Colorado will be offered on Z71 trim levels in either Crew or Extended-Cab configurations. The 100-year-badge can be found on doors, while the heritage bowtie logos can be found on the front and rear, a spray-in bedliner, rubber floor mats with the same bowties. The Colorado will be riding on 18-inch wheels including chrome trim for the tow hooks and other exterior trim.

On the other hand, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Centennial pack will only be available on the LTZ Z71 trim in Crew Cab configuration. Similar to the Colorado, the Silverado will be wearing the various exterior badges, floor mats, bedliner, and extra chrome trim. It will then be sitting on 22-inch chrome-trimmed wheels and the steering wheels will get a chrome bowtie badge too.

General Motors disclosed that it hopes to have a stronger presence in the Chinese market with the plan to release both the Chevrolet Colorado and the Chevrolet Silverado. The automaker added that at the same time that the two models will be released to this market, it will also be exported starting in 2017.

For the Colorado to be released in China, it will be equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine. However, the Chinese counterpart will have output of 305 hp with peak torque of 269 lb.-ft. (365 Nm) instead of the usual 308 hp and torque of 275 lb.-ft. (373 Nm) in the U.S. market. Meanwhile the Silverado to be released to this Asian market will have the 6.2-liter engine which can deliver 420 hp and maximum torque of 460 lb.-ft. (624 Nm). General Motors has said it will reveal the full details and the price list near the actual date of the launch.

It was last year when GM came out with the second generation 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. This was also significant as it was also the first time a diesel version of this model has been released. It was fitted with a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system that allowed some of the gases to be diverted to the fresh intake air stream. No wonder the company was proud to say that it was the cleanest diesel truck engine it has ever made.

Chevrolet unveiled during the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (2016 SEMA Show) two concepts aimed at displaying just how versatile the Silverado is.

The first is the Alaskan Edition which is founded on the Silverado 2500HD. To overcome even the heaviest of winters, the brand made sure to put in a stainless steel bespoke snowplow. In addition, to make sure that the snowplow kept its even stance once attached, a leveling kit is included.

Of course, having a snowplow would be useless without the power to move the vehicle and this is where the Duramax 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine comes in with its output of 332 kW (445 hp) and peak torque at 1,234 Nm (910 lbs.-ft.).

Dual stacked headlights will not be seen on the updated 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. Instead, the pickup will get smaller and more stylized units as well as a more muscular hood and a new front fascia to give it a menacing vibe. Chevrolet scrapped the stacked headlights, a primary feature on the brand’s fast-selling truck since the ‘80s.

Its new lights are comparable to those used for high-tech electronics. Chevrolet spokesman Tom Wilkinson said that the styling revisions were meant to make the truck fresh as it competes with Ford’s revamped F-150 and Fiat Chrysler’s Ram 1500.

Another model that it will have to compete with is the new Titan pickup that Nissan will bring to the market in a few months. The changes to the new Silverado represent some of the most radical ones implemented mid-cycle.

GM’s ad account for its Chevrolet Silverado model has been moved to Interpublic’s Commonwealth. GM released a statement explaining the move from Publicis Groupe's Leo Burnett. GM said that it is taking actions to “streamline business and ensure consistency." In a memo to its employees, Leo Burnett said that it will still manage the accounts for GM’s Buick and GMC ads.

Leo Burnett regarded the news as “unfortunate,” but that GM has given assurances that the move isn’t caused by problems with the team and that in fact, its employees have provided “big, brand-building ideas that really made a difference."

In March 2012, Commonwealth was created as a joint venture between Omnicom's Goodby Silverstein & Partners and Interpublic Group of Cos. McCann in order to manage Chevrolet.

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Custom -- with a price of $33,820, including shipping – will be aimed at "the heart" of the truck market, GM North America President Alan Batey told Automotive News. The Custom package is derived from the double-cab version of Chevrolet's LS trim level and features 20-inch aluminum wheels as well as a chrome bumper and grille surround, rear bumper, door handles and mirror caps.

The Silverado has an average transaction price of around $42,000. The Silverado Custom is seen as GM’s to the Ram Express, a lower-trim model that allowed the brand to capture converts. Ram saw its 2014 sales jump 24 to 439,789 trucks while Silverado surged 10 percent to 529,755. Sales of the F series, meanwhile, dropped 1.3 percent to 753,851.

Volume for the GMC Sierra sales climbed 15 percent to 211,833. "Our ATPs are off the chart because the top-end has done brilliantly well,” Batey said. He, however, noted that GM is not really getting a fair share of the full-size pickup market, to which the Silverado Custom is the carmaker’s answer.
