Chevrolet has managed to convert the Spark into something similar to a crossover. Nicknamed the Spark Activ, it is easy to see it has the usual styles typically associated with crossovers. For example, both the front section and the rear end, and even the sides, have the faux-metal brush guards in silver. There are also wheel wells and rocker panels. Even the bumpers in the front and the rear are covered in black moldings.
The Spark Activ’s interior reveals that it is enveloped in black leatherette upholstery. Even the steering wheel has this treatment. Equipped as standard inside, among others, is the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system which comes with a 7-inch touchscreen. The features also display compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features fitted as standard, to name a few, include cruise control air conditioning, satellite radio, rear-view camera, and keyless entry. It may also be turned into a 4G hotspot. Space is not much of an issue as when the seats in the rear are folded down, the total load space is 771 liters (27.2 cu. ft.).
Going to the exterior, the front section has big fog lamps placed in housings having the same color as the body. On top of this are roof bars while the grille has the “Activ” badge placed on a silver plate. Looking at the suspension, it is clear it is higher by 10 mm (0.4 inches) with the body being fitted with the alloy 15-inch wheels. While this is what Volkswagen did with the Golf Alltrack, it is not sure if the Activ would offer off-road capability as well. Still, this change means that it would be able to meet urban-related driving issues compared to the standard Spark.Read the entire article Chevrolet releases Spark Activ, the tiny rugged hatchback

Besides the 2016 Malibu, Chevrolet also presented its 2016 Spark at the 2015 New York Auto Show, a vehicle that promises to offer greater efficiency and refinement as well as new connectivity features. The American manufacturer says that the 2016 Spark will be offered in more than 40 markets around the world and it is built on an all-new architecture for more sophisticated driving experience.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new Spark features a slightly longer wheelbase, while the overall height was reduced by 1.6 inches (40 mm). As a result, the lower profile reduces aerodynamic drag in order to improve efficiency.
When it comes to design, the 2016 Spark features the same design philosophy seen on the current Chevrolet models, such as the dual-port grille flanked by large, elliptical headlamps. Moreover, there are three new colors available: Toasted Marshmallow, Kalamata and Splash. The interior was updated too and designers were able to match the lowered roof height by adjusting the hip-point for the seats.Read the entire article New York Auto Show: 2016 Chevrolet Spark is GM’s new global minicar
Chevrolet’s small car lineup is getting more and more popular and not only in the United States but also other markets such as India and South Korea. According to General Motors, Chevrolet managed to sell over 1 million Spark and Beat vehicles around the world.
For those who don't know the first Spark went on sale as the Beat in India in late 2009 and today, the small vehicle is available in 71 markets around the world. The Spark is a best seller in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico.
As you may know already, the Spark is also very safe as it was the only vehicle in its segment to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick award. Moreover, it was the first car to offer the Siri Eyes Free, which enabled drivers to pair their iPhones running iOS 6 or later with the vehicle.Read the entire article GM sells over 1 million Chevrolet Spark small cars around the world
Chevrolet is just one of two brands – the other is Toyota’s Scion -- that offer both a subcompact and a minicar in the United States, the Sonic and the Spark. That move has paid dividends. Sales of Chevrolet Sparks were 34,130 in 2013 and 18,591 in the first five months of 2014 (up 28 per cent). The good thing is that the Spark’s success doesn’t seem to be at the expense of the Sonic.
In fact, sales of the Sonic grew 5 percent in the first five months of 2014 to 40,672. Likewise, the Sonic had the second-highest average transaction price of $17,585 among the top seven subcompacts so far in 2014, according to TrueCar.
The popularity of both the Sonic has allowed Chevrolet to outsell Toyota, Honda, Ford and Hyundai in the subcompact market. However, Toyota and Honda still lord over the compact segment with their Corolla and Civic offerings.Read the entire article Chevrolet is earning success with Spark and Sonic
Only the Chevrolet Spark received an acceptable rating in small-overlap crash test from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, when most small cars fared poorly. Likewise, the Spark was the only tiny car to earn a top safety pick award from the group. IIHS introduced in 2012 the small-overlap test, which simulates a situation wherein the front quarter of the driver side of a vehicle collides with a pole or a tree at 40 mph.
The test is considered much harder than a head-on collision since the front-end crush zone is bypassed. Joe Nolan, IIHS vice president said in a statement, that small, lightweight vehicles have an inherent safety disadvantage in a small-overlap test, underscoring the importance of choosing one with the best occupant protection.
He remarked that as a group, minicars “aren't performing as well as other vehicle categories in the small-overlap crash." Tougher tests like the small-overlap front crash test have resulted to a lesser number of vehicles earning the institute’s top safety picks for 2014.Read the entire article Chevy Spark is the only small car to get acceptable rating in IIHS small-overlap test
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has made the 2014 Chevrolet Spark a Top Safety Pick after the minicar attained the highest possible “good” scores in the agency’s moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints tests. The 2014 Spark also achieved an “acceptable” score in IIHS’s new small overlap test, which emulates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle hits another vehicle or an object like a tree.
“Spark’s impressive performance in IIHS’s most stringent test yet demonstrates the intensive efforts of our global safety team to deliver big safety in a small package,” remarked Gay Kent, General Motors general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. He said that the safety structure of the Spark extensively employs high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels, adding that the minicar’s passenger protection package boasts of 10 standard air bags.
Since the Spark has a short wheelbase of 93.5 inches, the team had to strengthen its front-end structure to better absorb and distribute impact energy around passengers. The team also paved the way for a cradle extension for additional support in frontal collisions. Lightweight, high-strength steels account for over 62 percent of Spark’s under body and 42 percent of its upper body.Read the entire article 2014 Chevrolet Spark is Top Safety Pick for IIHS
General Motors Co. is planning to launch the new Chevrolet Spark minicar in 2015 but will postpone the rollout its revamped Aveo subcompact from that year, according to South Korean labor union spokesman. Union spokesman Choi Jong-hak remarked that GM Korea has advised them that it will produce the next Spark and Aveo cars in South Korea, dismissing local industry worries that the American carmaker may shift some output of the models out of the Asian country.
Choi said GM Korea's management told union negotiators of its plans during annual wage talks that ended last week. GM Korea builds and exports the Spark and Aveo -- also known as Matiz and Sonic respectively -- to the United States, Europe and other countries. GM Korea also produces knock-down kits for assembly in Uzbekistan and other countries. GM Korea’s Chngwon site is building the Spark while its Bupyeong headquarters is producing the Aveo.
According to GM Korea, it sold 215,177 Spark at in its home turf and abroad in 2012. The unit added that exports accounted for nearly 70 percent of the Spark sales. The Spark accounted for 20,320 units out of Chevrolet's 74,384 sales in Europe in the first half of 2013, according to JATO Dynamics market researchers, making it the brand best-selling model in the region.Read the entire article New Chevrolet Spark will debut in 2015, revamped Aveo delayed
Consumers in United States have always seen cars build by Chevrolet as being gas guzzlers. This could be the reason why many of them shy away from any of Chevy's products. The brand's parent, General Motors has been forced to create or bring in vehicle products that could inevitably change consumers' perspective on Chevrolet.
Then GM brought in the Chevrolet Spark, which design was lead by the carmaker's designers based in South Korea where small cars are much more popular. GM launched the Chevrolet Spark in the US in June 2012, and the end of May 2013 marked the first year of the car's presence and success in the country. From June 2012 to May 2013, GM sold 26,869 Sparks in the US, surpassing GM's initial expectations by up to 35 percent, a person familiar with the carmaker's internal planning told Bloomberg.
GM also sold 14,484 Sparks in the US in the first five months of 2013.Read the entire article Chevrolet Spark changed consumer view of the brand
The smart assistant Siri is already available on the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic and Spark vehicles with Chevrolet MyLink. Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director for small cars, said that Chevy Sonic and Spark are the first vehicles to get Siri Eyes Free integration. She also said that the automaker’s customers consider safety, ease, reliability, and portable connectivity as its top priorities.
Siri complements MyLink's current capabilities to help in delivering an awesome driving experience. Because of the cars' standard Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, customers who have a compatible iPhone that runs iOS 6 could instruct Siri to do several tasks while they don’t risk their safety in keeping their eyes on the road and making sure that their hands stay on the wheel.
To lessen distraction further, Siri now has an Eyes Free mode that allows drivers to use just their voice to interact with their iPhones while keeping the device's screen from lighting up. Drivers would only have to connect the iPhone with the MyLink radio through Bluetooth, pair it with the system, and use the steering wheel voice activation button to start and conclude sessions with Siri in Eyes Free mode.Read the entire article 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, Spark are the first vehicles to offer Siri Eyes Free integration
Chevrolet will integrate Siri into the US version of the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic in early 2013, the carmaker announced during the Los Angeles International Auto Show. Through the Spark and Sonic’s standard Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, customers with a compatible iPhone -- 4S or newer -- running iOS 6 can instruct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they are driving, allowing them to focus their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
To reduce distraction, Siri comes with an Eyes Free mode that allows users to interact with their iPhone just through their voices while keeping the device's screen from lighting up. To start the operation, a user could just simply connect their iPhone with the MyLink radio via Bluetooth. Once paired with the system, the user should use the steering wheel voice activation button to start and end sessions with Siri in Eyes Free mode.
Both the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic are endowed with six months of OnStar's premium Directions and Connections service. OnStar’s services like Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Vehicle Diagnostics and Roadside Assistance ensure that both the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic are safe, secured and connected.Read the entire article Chevrolet integrates Siri into 2013 Spark and Sonic
Chevrolet will be displaying a number of small and compact car concepts at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. After having had a successful launch of Chevrolet Spark minicars, General Motors is now increasing the imports that will be offered in the U.S. GM had just lately increased its order for Sparks from the plant located in Korea that builds the car. Cristi Landy, marketing director for Chevrolet small cars, told Automotive News that the market has reacted strongly to the model.
She declined to say the number of Sparks imported in the initial prediction and the number being requested. Last July, GM held the launch of the Spark in 18 metro U.S. markets. A total of 6,313 Sparks were sold in the first two months, encouraging GM executives and dealers. Before the Spark was launched, IHS Automotive predicted that it will sell 27,000 in 2013, which would be the first full year that the car would be available in the U.S.
So far, the sales pace indicates that GM is on course to surpass this total on an annual basis. Landy revealed that the labor troubles in Korea this summer interrupted several Spark shipments to the U.S. Korean workers participated in partial strikes and this resulted to some loss in production. A deal was reached between the company and the Korean labor union last August.Read the entire article GM to import more Chevrolet Spark minicars in the US as sales surge
When the Chevrolet Spark minicar is launched in the U.S. this July, it will have a starting price of $12,995 (including shipping costs), lower than its rivals in this expanding segment. GM’s price for the Spark is lower than those of its minicar rivals. The Scion iQ has a price tag of $15,995, the Smart ForTwo is priced at $13,240, and the Fiat 500 is available for $16,200.
All these prices include shipping charges. In a statement, GM said that the Spark will be available in three trim levels. There would also be just a few options offered in order to simplify pricing and packaging. All the trim levels include the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. For just $925, the buyer can get a four-speed automatic transmission for any trim level.
GM also provided more details about the trim levels. The LS is priced at $12,995. What comes with the base model are air conditioning, power windows, 10 airbags, electronic stability control and several more safety features.Read the entire article 2013 Chevrolet Spark will have a starting price of $12,995
Be prepared for a splash of colors that we have not seen in our vehicles since the 1960s. Many say that this color explosion was restarted by Chevy's new minicar, the Spark. Ford wasn’t about to let things pass as it also launched an offensive with Dodge and Plymouth for dominance in this color battle. All the brands offered a broad variety of wild colors with interesting names.
Ford came up with the Grabber Blue, Grabber Orange and Grabber Green Mustang for the Mustang and the Ford Maverick. Top Banana Yellow, Hemi Orange, Go Mango were a few of what Dodge and Plymouth offered.
Buyers could ask for this paint on the Challenger and Barracuda and some other models. The present Mustang and Challenger versions as well as the Camaro have also been available with wild, bright colors.Read the entire article New Chevrolet Spark expected to bring a color explosion
GM is optimistic that its Chevrolet Spark could compete in the United States despite lacking a specific target market for the Korea-made minicar. Cristi Landy, Spark marketing director, admitted that they haven’t set a specific target for the Spark, adding that since the minicar concept is new to the US, they are venturing into an environment with plenty of unknowns.
Spark minicar is marketed to people who are living and driving around a congested environment like a city. The Spark is just 144.7 inches long; 14.3 inches shorter than Chevrolet Sonic hatchback and just 5.1 inches longer than the Fiat 500.
With its small dimensions, the Spark is an effective way to move around a congested area, making it a viable product in cities where roads are filled with moving objects and there are limited parking spaces. Chevrolet is currently marketing the Spark in Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and Mexico.Read the entire article GM is optimistic about the Spark a.k.a Chevrolet’s lowest-priced car in the U.S.

Spy shots have revealed that the Chevrolet Spark mini-car will get a mild update before it arrives in North America. General Motors confirmed in January 2009 that the Spark will soon be offered in the region. In early 2011, GMI said that the Spark will arrive in 2012 with a 2013 model year badge. Sources from inside GMI’s product development division say that the schedule for the Spark hasn’t changed.
When it arrives in the middle of 2012, it will have a new front fascia and other minimal design modifications. Spy shots came out last month, confirming the new appearance, which is the basis of GMI’s rendering. Sources revealed that the design revisions aren’t just for aesthetics.
The existing Spark that’s currently available in worldwide markets fails to meet U.S. safety standards, says GMInsideNews. This is why the Spark has been given a new front end. From the top view, we see that this car has a bigger grille and its lower air intake has been revised. The large shield shaped grille is a characteristic shared with the newly launched Chevrolet Sonic. The North American Spark won’t be getting the side repeater lamps. The Spark is available with a 1.0-liter and optional 1.2-liter four-cylinder engines in the global markets.Read the entire article Chevrolet Spark will receive a facelift before it arrives in North America
