Fiat Chrysler is reported to continue with its line-up of large cars well until 2020. Both the Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Charger are not expected to have any redesigns through the Giorgio platform all the way to the 2021 model year. This is true as well for the Chrysler 300 sedans. This information was revealed by Automotive News citing two sources.
The Giorgio platform mentioned forms the basis of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the same vehicle that is expected to begin sales by the end of this year in North America. With regards to this platform, it is likely that for the North American market, the platform would be made wider and longer for it to be used for the Challenger and the Charger. In addition, the Giorgio platform has the needed rigidity to help the brand make a comeback on the convertible market. Should this happen, it would be the brand’s return to this segment after it stopped production of the Chrysler 200 Convertible back in 2014.
According to FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne, the platform’s versatility was no accident as it was created at the same time as the launching of the Giulia. The stripe design also is matched to the design of the signature NACA duct-hood vent, further highlighting its already aggressive yet still functional design.
The three new strop options available for the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat include Dual Red, Dual Blue and Duel Silver. Mopar just brought a mammoth at the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mopar is introducing a new crate engine that is like an elephant from hell. Dubbed as the “Hellephant” 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate Hemi engine, this new powerplant isn't just massive in size, but also in performance.
Hellephant is essentially a brand-new HEMI-engine that borrows its name from the massive land mammal – because of its large size as well as its ability to deliver huge power figures. As Mopar disclosed, the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI engine can deliver up to 1,000 hp of humongous output and up to 950 lb.-ft. of torque. This new Hellephant engine is the first 1,000-hp crate engine kit ever offered by an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
To achieve 1,000 hp of output, the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI engine is developed to be much larger that your usual HEMI engine. In fact, it boasts of 4.0 inches of stroke and bore specs at 4.125 inches. If you are a huge fan of the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon but never had the chance to get your hands on any, there is going to be one last chance for you to get your hands on not one but both of them. This is because in June, Dodge will release the final examples of the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger Demon at the Barrett Jackson auction in Uncasville, Connecticut.

We know of the Dodge Durango as a mean-looking SUV. But the automaker decided to make it look even more aggressive, now giving it as much as 475 horsepower (354 kilowatts). Now, with the Rallye design package, that’s another notch up for the three-row, 2018 Durango GT SUV. It now has cool exterior upgrades, together with a selection of new colour options.
The styling package consists of the following: a performance hood, front fascia, and LED fog lights. Meanwhile, the new engine cover adds two heat extractors and a cold air duct. Also, the new Durango borrows its front fascia and fog lights from the Durango R/T and SRT models before it.
New colour options include Vice White, White Knuckle, Octane Red, Redline Red, DB Black, Granite and In-Violet. Customers could combine this with 20-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels, or optional Brass Monkey wheels as part of the Blacktop package. If you were not able to reserve yourself a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and think that perhaps you could get your hands on a brand new 2019 model year of the car, we are now telling you that it is impossible. This is because the automaker has no plans to produce more than what they initially announced. It will be limited to 3,300 units only. This number has not changed since they first announced the vehicle. The company now reiterates that there won’t be an extension.
This is because over the last few weeks, Demon enthusiasts have been spreading rumours that their local Dodge dealerships are talking about another model year for the Dodge. This is why the company wants to clarify things now, saying that the Demon will not get a 2019 version.
In fact, Tim Kuniskis, Dodge boss said in his interview with Allpar.com that “2018 only, one and done”, meaning to say that those who did not get the 2018 model year missed out because there will not be a 2019 version if that is what they expected. Dodge Challenger SRT Demon owners are in for a special treat after Dodge has recently announced that it is making their cars extra special by offering exclusive aftermarket car accessories. Included in the collection are some fancy car covers, a leather-bound track manual and the optionally available street tires for drag performance enthusiasts.
The Pirelli performance tires which come in the sizes of 305/35ZR20 will be wrapped on the 20-inch standard wheels that suit the Challenger Hellcat’s Widebody set-up. The package is only offered on the Dodge Demon which is available for purchase through Mopar Performance Parts and Accessories. Given that the stock drag radials may also be prone to damage especially in colder climates, having an extra set of high performance tires is not far from being a necessity.
Among the aftermarket products currently available are Mopar’s rear seat delete package which gives the owners the option to remove the rear seat if they initially availed the Demon to come with the rear seat. Not a lot of people outside the United States know of the Wisconsin-based repair shop, Ringbrothers. But soon, they will become larger as they showcase models that they have restored. One of them would be this 1969 Dodge Charger, which they call the Defector that had just made its appearance at the ongoing SEMA show. In total, the team behind this model spent 4,700 hours working on this model and it is also their first time to build a show car based on a Mopar.
Why did it take them that long, you ask? Well, a lot of the time was spent on redesigning the Dodge’s body. Unlike the factory model ’69 Charger, the repair shop has shortened the Defector’s trunk by two inches, losing some of its length. Despite that, its wheelbase has then been extended by another three inches. It is now covered in a BASF colour that they call “Greener On The Other Side.” This is complemented by chrome accents all over the body.
With the Defector’s shortened body, new rocker rails and quarter panels had to be added, together with a new suspension. The new subframe it sits on comes from Detroit Speed. It also has a new rack and pinion steering, and a four-link rear suspension setup. Ever heard of a Dodge Durango Hellcat? Of course, no one has heard of a Durango Hellcat. This is because Dodge never developed or created such a model. In case you haven’t heard it too, there is a Durango powered by the same engine found in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, courtesy of a custom Mopar shop near Phoenix, Arizona.
Even with the arrival of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat remains a fiery proposition on the road. After all, it is powered by a monstrous engine – a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 mill – that could deliver 707 hp of max output and 650 lb.-ft. of peak torque. It is also the same engine that powers the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. Moreover, it is the same engine that serves as the core of the newly launched Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk mid-size SUV.
Regrettably, Dodge hasn’t decided to equip its own mid-size SUV with this engine from hell. The closest a customer could get for a high-performance version of the Dodge Durango is the one that has been tweaked by SRT. Created for the 2018 model year, the Dodge Durango SRT is tagged by the brand as the fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUV in America. It is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine that delivers at most 475 hp of output and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. In a recent report by Automotive News, we learned that FCA is no longer pursuing its original plans in using Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio architecture on both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. Instead, it will be using the new platform that will underpin Maserati’s new sedan. Automotive News however didn’t name the source of this information.
It is also said that Fiat Chrysler Automotive will be giving both of its vehicle models the final refresh for the 2019 model year before the arrival of its all-new generation range two years after. By that time, the two Dodge models would have already moved on to Maserati Ghibli’s architecture and shall no longer use the ongoing models’ current platform. To add some new twists to the current vehicle lineups, FCA for now has cooked up some special edition packages both for the Dodge Charger and Challenger.
Suffice it to say, Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio RWD architecture will still be used on one of the upcoming generation’s Dodge model -- the Journey SUV. With its intentions in building the most driver-centric sport utility vehicle, FCA will be taking Alfa Rome Stelvio’s engine designs. The next generation SUV range is expected to arrive at the showrooms in 2019 and will soon be manufactured and produced in Italy. With all the hype surrounding the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, it seems that it will be one of the most successful vehicles from the automaker even before it hits the production line.
Dodge never doubted that people would be lining up to purchase the 840 horsepower (626 kilowatt) muscle car. A couple of months ago, we wrote about the group of Viper ACR enthusiasts from America who raised enough money to fly the vehicle out to Germany so it could lap the Green Hell. Initially, their goal was to hit a sub-seven-minute goal, but they were a little shy of this by finishing the Nurburgring in 7:01.3 last week. They still got to break the existing record of 7:03.45, making the ACR the fastest street legal Dodge Viper ever that hit the Nurburgring.
Road & Track was in Germany that time to witness this record breaking act by the Viper ACR, and they also witnessed the car go through some serious hiccups. The first incident was from a seized differential that occurred earlier in the week, which was then followed by a high-speed tire failure after the second lap, which led to a serious crash that happened right after the Viper ACR finished the lap. Luckily, both drivers came out of the car with no injuries. If you would like to see the record-setting lap, you could always check out the video online.
So far, the Viper ACR is the fifth fastest car that has gone around the Nurburgring, at 7:01.3, being just behind the Lamborghini Aventador SV with a 6:59.73 lap time in 2015. But it actually did pretty well compared to the Nissan GT-R Nismo that has a lap time of 7:08.68, as well as the new Mercedes-AMG GT R that has a 7:10.92 time. On July 21, 2017, this twin-turbo manual Gen 5 SRT Viper set a new world record by running a fourth of a mile in just 9.28 seconds.
But before this, it was also the Gen 5 Viper that held the record for the fastest 6-speed manual transmission in just 9.35 seconds at 157 miles per hour (252 kilometers per hour). When it went through the Carolina Dragway, this race focused model was able to cover the distance in just three passes, and it took only 2.28 seconds at 162 miles per hour (260 kilometers per hour).
Big thanks to the tuner for the twin-turbo forged V10 setup that made it possible to beat the record. This, along with the OEM wheels with Nitto 19” drag radials of course. A Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is seen running amok in the streets of Pittsburgh from the new Pennzoil ad. “Exorcising the Demon”, as the video title shows, features Rhys Millen and the 840hp Dodge Challenger SRT. To some it may appear as if the high performance synthetic oil brand only wants us to marvel at how the American muscle car can actually drift and perform stunts. Still, the video is incredibly thrilling to watch. It leaves no doubt that it is indeed a stunningly powerful car.
The first part of the video was shot in what looks like a church where all of a sudden there are Pennzoil containers mysteriously falling off the shelves. At some point, you will see a shadowy figure (or what must be a guy wearing a hood) before the video finally takes you to the real action.
The Demon will be seen flying off the bridges and going down an empty tunnel in what seemed like a Hollywood action film. With the 840hp 6.2-liter V8, we think the Demon has more than enough power to drift and drag anywhere it pleases. August 17, 2017 is a sad day for the Dodge Viper, its fans, enthusiasts and its admirers. It is the day when the last Dodge Viper rolled off the assembly line, thereby effectively ending the tumultuous run of the brand’s beloved serpent.
This bittersweet event was witnessed by no other than Ralph Gilles, FCA’s head of design. Gilles has played a big role in bringing the Viper back to life in 2012 when he was the president and chief executive of SRT. In his Instagram account, Gilles posted a number of images showing him posing alongside two examples of the fifth generation of the Dodge Viper at FCA's Connor Assembly Plant, which has been the home of the two-seat sports car since 1995.
One of these images feature a Viper wrapped in red finish, which Gilles disclosed in the comments section of his Instagram post as the “ultimate last one.” As the very last example of the Viper, this unit is considered as something special. This could be the reason that Dodge wouldn’t deliver this example of the Viper to any customer, and would instead take it as a keepsake as part of its heritage collection. This year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles released the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, joining another creation from hell, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Just recently though, speculations have surfaced that FCA might develop a creation from a place opposite of hell: heaven. This comes as FCA apparently applied to trademark the name “Angel” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
As revealed by Fiat Chrysler Authority, FCA applied on July 17, 2017 for the name “Angel” as a trademark to be used for motor vehicles, including passenger automobiles as well as their structural parts, trim, and badges.
The Demon is practically a super-muscle car for FCA’s Dodge brand. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine that could deliver, as standard, 808 horsepower of max output and 717 lb.-ft. of peak torque. A personalized and serialized Demon Crate could unleash the full potential of this Demon V8 engine to 840 hp of max output and 770 lb.-ft. of peak torque. This V8 engine is matched to a TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission. The company has named this software AutoPark, which basically works the way it sounds. This system automatically gets activated when the driver leaves the car and is left in gear. What happens is AutoPark will stop the car while leaving it on accessory mode - this will keep the radio and other feature stay active for 30 minutes before it shuts off. This feature will also be activated when the driver opens his door with the seat belts unbuckled. This software update was introduced back in April. However, cars that have this software were only released in the summer.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was not only put on the spot over the new shifter designs. They were in hot water last year when actor Anton Yelchin met a tragic accident. The problem with the new shifter is not because it is complicated to use, but because it does not tell the driver whether the car is already parked. This is a problem because drivers have gotten used to this for decades now, as it is a standard in all vehicles.
The reason for the outrage was because the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that 266 crashed, 68 injuries, and 686 complaints were related to the electronic shifters that were the same as that on Anton Yelchin’s Jeep Grand Cherokee. A couple of days ago, Ford came out with their pursuit-rated F-150 Police Responder, and we were quite impressed with what it has to offer. And we are pretty sure police officers were too.
Now, it is Dodge’s turn to show what they have got. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had just announced their new Officer Protection Package for the 2018 Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicles. The new package enables the car to alert officers of danger behind the car, and it doesn’t just warn them, as the car is programmed to take action in response to these potential danger - just like what we see in movies.
Jeff Kommor, FCA vice president of US sales operations, fleet and small business sales say that the company made this special package as a result of their focus on their officer’s safety in the Charger Pursuit. He also noted that they worked with the Police Advisory Board, and got some input and guidance from them so they can enhance the capabilities of technology for the 2018 model year. The Nurburgring is the one track that many automakers want to hold a record of, because only the best of the best do. This time, a group of extraordinary passionate people are trying their best to do everything that they can to make the Viper reclaim its record as the fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring. This is because the Conner Assembly plant in Detroit will official close down in August, and these guys just want to give it the best send off. In a few months, the SRT Viper, which was once Dodge’s front-line war horse for 25 years, will say goodbye.
The company itself does not have plans of sending the Viper to the Nurburgring after doing it twice already, which is why you could tell how passionate the individuals are. In fact, they started a group on Facebook called “The Viper Ring Record Run Powered by Kumho and co-sponsored by Prefix”. They’re raising funds so they could send not one, but two Viper ACRs, from the United States to Germany. In order to do this, they need about $150,000 to $200,000 aside from the sponsorships they have got. To do this, they group started a GoFundMe account earlier this January, and as of now, they have already earned $177,642, which means that the attempt to break records at the Green Hell is a go.

Good news for 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon buyers, as insurance company Hagerty will make sure they are covered. The company will be offering an insurance package for the owners across the United States and Canada, numbering 3,000 for the U.S. group and 300 for those in Canada.
Just like with any other vehicles that Hagerty covers, Dodge Chalenger SRT Demon owners will get the same Guaranteed Value policy. This means that from the time the policy has been issued, the vehicle’s value will depend on how much it has been used or driven, and will not be established only when the car gets into a collision. By doing so, this eliminates negotiations and arguments over what the car’s value will be in years to come.
Tim Kuniskis, the Head of FCA’s Passenger Car Brands in North America, said that they want to ensure that the owners of these cars have the insurance they need to feel safe whenever they bring the car out on the street.
