Citroën to launch Electric Berlingo van at Hanover Motor Show

Citroën will be launching its new Electric Berlingo at the Hanover Motor Show, slated to take place from September 18 to 27, 2012 in Germany. The second-generation of Electric Berlingo van demonstrates the carmaker’s commitment to electric vehicles. The new Electric Berlingo is endowed with the latest electric vehicle technology and is still blessed with the award-winning qualities of the current Berlingo range, including load volumes of up to 4.1 cubic metres and a payload capacity of 675kg.

The Electric Berlingo was deeply inspired by the Citroën first-generation Berlingo Electrique van, which was available in the United Kingdom until November 2005. The second-generation Electric Berlingo van is the latest proof of the French carmaker’s resolve to minimise the environmental impact of its advanced car and LCV ranges.

The Citroën range now includes models that feature e-HDi micro-hybrid technology and Hybrid4 technology in DS5. Various parts of the van’s electric powertrain are contained under the bonnet or beneath other areas of the body shell, allowing the Electric Berlingo to carry large load volume or carrying capacity. The van’s two-part battery pack is fitted under its flat load deck, allowing its load compartment to have the same characteristics as in traditionally powered models.

PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will supply light commercial vans to Toyota Motor to be sold under its own brand in Europe under a deal that both automakers had recently signed. In the second quarter of 2013, Peugeot will begin to offer medium-sized vans based on the current Peugeot Expert and Citroen Jumpy models.

They said that this agreement, which includes collaboration on future vehicles to be built by Peugeot, may extend farther than 2020. Toyota Europe CEO Didier Leroy said that the light commercial vehicle segment is significant in several markets across Europe. He said that this is a “good solution” for its customers as it had recently phased out the Hiace model.

The Sevel Nord plant in Lieu Saint-Amand, France, will build the vans that PSA will supply to Toyota. PSA spokesman Pierre-Olivier Salmon said that the Sevel Nord factory is presently operated under a joint venture with Fiat Group. On July 11, the automakers said that PSA, Europe's No. 2 automaker, agreed to purchase Fiat's stake in Sevel Nord by the end of 2012.

As Fiat has decided to withdraw from the Sevelnord venture, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen is on the search for a new partner for light commercial vehicles. CEO Philippe Varin said that PSA is hoping to share the cost of developing and manufacturing replacements for its Peugeot Expert and Citroen Jumpy vans produced at a plant that’s shared with Fiat.

Varin said that the company is finding the right solution for its future utility vehicles, explaining that it’s difficult to develop them alone and that it’s crucial for the correct partner to be found.

The Sevelnord venture in northern France is also where the Fiat Scudo van is built when the existing partnership agreement expires in 2017. Varin didn’t discuss the potential replacements. Varin was the speaker at an event that marked the production launch of Peugeot's new 208 subcompact car at PSA's Poissy plant near Paris, which French Industry Minister Eric Besson attended.

The Chevrolet City Express small cargo van has been in the market since 2014 (2015 model year). Designed for customers seeking a small fuel-efficient, cargo vehicle, the City Express has silently reached the end of the road, as General Motors has already stopped taking orders and building of this small work van.

While it is now too late for the Chevrolet City Express to make a sales comeback, GM was literally silent about the fate of Chevy’s small cargo van. According to a report by the Automotive News citing a spokesman from GM, dealers were informed of plans to drop the City Express as early as Summer 2017. Chevrolet received orders for the small cargo van only until September 2017, with the production of the last units of the 2018 City Express officially ended in February 2018.

In 2013, GM and Nissan Motors inked an agreement for the Japanese carmaker to build a small cargo van – the Chevrolet City Express – as based on the Nissan NV200. The Nissan NV200 is a compact yet spacious commercial boasts of low cost of ownership. Designed as both a passenger and a commercial vehicle, the Nissan NV200 is being sold in several markets around the world, including in the United States and Canada.

Not so long ago in the United Kingdom, we witnessed how the Ford Fiesta has been converted into a van, and now, the Dacia Duster seems to be getting the same treatment. The Duster Fiskal has been available in Austria for quite some time now, together with the Sandero Fiskal and Logan MCV Fiskal. And the former, actually has been making the transition towards the SUV’s second generation. The said model caters to small businesses, and the utilitarian vehicle will finally let go of the rear bench to allow for more cargo capacity.

The new flat load compartment features a rubber mat that measures 1.64 meters (64.5 inches) long and contains four lashing points to make sure your cargo is secure. Inside, there is also a good quality steel divider wall that separates the passenger area from the cargo compartment, while the rear side windows have been covered instead to avoid those prying eyes looking inside the van. It may seem like Dacia just added a plastic white panel over the Duster Fiskal’s body but that’s not all they have done. Instead, it had been replaced with metal covered by a nice piece of fabric on the inside.

Even though it had not been mentioned in the press release, its load volume is pretty much identical to that of the regular Duster with the rear seats folded. When the seats are down, the front wheel drive model can accommodate 1,636 liters of space, and the 4x4 version can fit up to 1,604 liters.

Count an all-electric van as one of the MAN SE’s upcoming offerings this year. The well-known truck maker is joining the ranks of manufacturers offering a zero-emission solution to commercial customers with the electric version of its TGE van – the new MAN eTGE.

One may easily mistake the MAN eTGE as the Volkswagen e-Crafter. This isn't surprising since its diesel version -- the TGE – is essentially a twin of the VW Crafter. Thus, the MAN eTGE shares its DNA and basic architecture with the e-Crafter. However, compared to its e-Crafter twin, the eTGE is less powerful and offers lesser electric range. Nonetheless, MAN says the eTGE is just right for its target market, which already includes of Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Norway and the Netherlands. Customers could avail of this electric light commercial vehicle at a price of around €69,500.

The new MAN eTGE is powered by a permanently excited synchronous motor that could deliver 100 kW of output and 290 Nm of instant torque. Getting its juice from a rechargeable battery with a power capacity of 36 kWh, the electric motor allows the eTGE to go as fast as 90 km/h (56 mph). However, this energy capacity is just enough to allow the eTGE to go as far as 160 km (100 miles), which is mainly dependent on the load of this all-electric van. MAN eTGE has a permitted total weight of 3.5 or 4.25 tons as well as a maximum load of between 950 kg to 1,700 kg, depending on the configuration.

Though the current version of the Sprinter is available in a rear wheel drive and an all wheel drive option, customers will now be offered in a front wheel drive version of the van.

Mercedes-Benz is building on the success of the Marco Polo travel vans by offering more diversity with their newest offering -- the camper van conversion, catering to the more adventurous crowd. This new package does not directly come from Mercedes. Instead, it is the product of Tischer, a German company that specializes in converting pickups into recreational vehicles.

If you check out the German tuner’s page online, you would see a number of similar conversions for different brands and models such as the Land Rover Defender, the Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger, and to the Dodge Ram. As you know, Mercedes’ X-Class is somewhat based on the Navara, much like the Renault Alaskan. And that is why it should not come as a surprise that Tischer is adding the X-Class to its lineup.

The cabin is designed like a cove and the inside area measures 1.5 meters wide with nearly two meters of headroom. It offers plenty of space and includes a kitchen with a three-burner gas stove for cooking while on the road. It has enough space for three seats, which can easily be transformed into an extra bed when needed. The best part is that the entire cabin is demountable.

Since its release in 2014, the Citroen C4 Cactus has always been loved by car enthusiasts, thanks to its quirky look. But for 2018, it seems like the French automaker plans to give the compact hatchback a more conventional look instead. Aside from that, the automaker will be giving it substantial upgrades, inside and out - from a softer suspension to a floating-roof design. Plus, customers will have over 31 exterior combinations to choose from.

But if you were a huge fan of the C4 Cactus’ original look, there’s nothing to worry about because some of the design cues still carry over. These include the Airbump side panels but these have been minimized and moved further down to the bottom sill. The sleek headlights also remain from the 2014 model year. The company explains that the C4 will still be bold, while it “gains enhanced status”.

For the exterior, customers can choose from nine colour options including Polar White, Platinum Grey, Sport Red and some others. The body can then be paired with your choice of five different alloy wheels - from 16-inch grey and black square designs on the lower trim models, or the 17-inch cross wheel that is available in several colours too.

Have you been stuck on the decision whether to get an SUV or a van, but can’t fit both in your garage? Well, worry no more because Toyota has come up with a solution to your problem. The concept is called the Tj Cruiser, and it is a hybrid of a van and an SUV. The “T” stands for “toolbox”, while “J” stands for Joy. And of course, there is no need to explain where “Cruiser” comes from as it has been used for years. Toyota plans to unveil this concept at the upcoming 2017 Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

First of all, Toyota gave the Tj Cruiser a special finish on the hood, roof, and the fenders to keep it scratch and dirt resistant - especially when objects unexpectedly come in contact with them. Like all other upcoming Toyota cars, the boxy half-van half-SUV will be engineered on the TNGA platform, while it gets a hybridized 2.0 liter gasoline engine. The concept will be able to accommodate both a front- and all-wheel drive setup. It will sit on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels wearing Bridgestone tires, and has a beefy suspension setup. Physically, it still looks like a minivan, especially with the flat roof and the seamless window line.

With the huge sliding doors, passengers will not have to worry about getting in and out of the vehicle. But it is not just the passengers who will benefit from this but also will be convenient to those who will have to load or unload large bags and sports equipment. Having said that, the Tj Cruiser concept can actually fit items up to three meters (118 inches) long, when both the front and rear seats are folded. What makes this SUV even more practical is that it comes with a number of tie-down points behind the seats as well as deck boards for anchoring things. As mentioned earlier, it has so much space that it can fit equipment like bikes, surfboards, and other bulky objects through the back door.

Citroen is phasing out the current generation C5 in Europe after it produced the final example in Rennes, France. The C5, being one of the aging models released for the European market since 2007, coincides with the ending of Citroen’s famous hydropneumatic suspension. It can be recalled that the automaker officially confirmed that it will end the use of this “old technology” in 2015 due to low customer demand and high production cost. Having said that, Citroen intends to replace its famous hydraulics system with a more innovative set-up this year.

For more than a decade, the French marque was able to sell over 635,000 examples of the C5 and 435,000 of it was marketed in Europe. In 2016, Citroen however sold fewer than 10,000 examples of the C5 to the European market.

While the station wagon was the final example of the C5 made for Europe and the production of the sedan came to a halt the previous year, Citroen will continue producing the C5’s revolutionized version in China. As for Europe, the French automaker is working on a new generation model that could possibly take the shape of a sporty hatchback instead of the traditional sedan body style.

The 70th Cannes International Film Festival isn’t just about films and celebrities. During this year’s event, French automaker Renault surprised us with their range topping high-end shuttle, the Trafic SpaceClass. The van was used as a shuttle for VIPs going to the event.

The name “SpaceClass” comes from the idea that the luxury van provides both “space and comfort” for up to nine passengers. Renault expects the van to be part of the luxurious shuttle market, along with its competitors: the Citroën Spacetourer and the Peugeot Traveller.

SpaceClass comes in an exclusive shade of grey paint, exclusive head- and taillights, gloss black detailing, colour-coded bumpers, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Though it may just look like a regular van from the outside, don’t judge the SpaceClass based on its exterior, as all the amazing features can be found inside the cabin.

Everyone, meet the new presidential car. Newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed the latest DS 7 Crossback as his official car during the recent inauguration. It was barely a couple of months ago since Groupe PSA introduced the new crossover but it wasn’t until the parade that the public finally saw what the new crossover looks like. Otherwise known as Distinctive Series/Different Spirit, the DS marque actually had been Citroen’s sub brand from 2009 until it became an independent brand in 2014. No matter how deeply rooted DS Cars are with Citroen models, it is worth noting that these two have very distinct qualities when it comes to manufacturing and engineering.

The presidential car certainly has more special features than any regular unit ever built by the premium car brand. Apart from the soft top roof cover, the custom designed SUV comes with a flag holder on one side. Atelier Maury meanwhile designed its Black leather interior which matches the Ink Blue exterior paint perfectly. To complete the premium look, the presidential SUV comes equipped with a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels in two tone finish plus gold detailing.

Despite the lack of details about its powertrain, the French automaker assures that the presidential car has all the latest technologies similar to the upcoming production version. One of which is the highly advanced DS Active Scan Suspension with built-in camera as well as the DS Connected Pilot for autonomous driving.

Two years after Citroën revealed the Aircross Concept at the 2015 Auto Shanghai in China, the production model will then be introduced at the same event this week. Love it or hate it, the C5 Aircross will be having the same eccentric exterior just like the C4 Cactus, except the Aircross will be having a much larger body measuring at 4.5 meters long, 1.84 meters wide, and 1.67 meters tall.

Citroën released a couple of videos online to put emphasis on the “Progressive Hydraulic Cushions” as this is one of the highlights of the SUV - in fact, the all-new suspension benefits from this.

Both damping quality and ride comfort have both been improved with this technology. The two hydraulic stops are for rebound and compression, creating a two-step suspension. Reports say that no less than 20 patents were registered during the development of the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions.
