2018 Volvo XC40 small premium SUV makes its official debut

With the introduction of the new Volvo XC40, the carmaker is now able to cover three size sections of the global SUV market, which is considered as the fastest growing segment. Volvo is hoping that the new XC40 would allow it to take advantage of the ever-growing demand for SUVs around the world, enabling it to rake in more sales and become more profitable.

At launch, the new Volvo XC40 will be available in various trim levels, like the Momentum and R-Design. The entry-level trim and range-topping Inscription versions are due to be introduced later after the launch. XC40 models with the Momentum trim are provided, as standard, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a nine-inch touch screen infotainment system with navigation.

Also standard are LED headlights, Sensus Connect Internet, dual-zone climate control and rear parking assist as well as leather heated front seats and 18-inch alloy wheels. When the R-Design trim is availed, twin exhaust tips and a lowered sport suspension is provided. The R-Design trim also includes leather and aluminum trim in the cabin with black highlights on the exterior.

VW I.D. Crozz II Concept looks more stylish than the previous electric crossover concept

At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen revealed the all-electric I.D. Crozz II Concept as a way to tell the audience that they are pushing through with electrification in 2020. At first glance, the design of this concept will remind you of the earlier I.D. Crozz. The compact crossover picks up design cues from it, but is more stylish and eye-catching with its two-tone colour scheme. The one we are seeing live is finished in a Hibiscus Red Metallic paint and a silver roof.

Herbert Diess, Volkswagen CEO said in his statement that their company focuses on making technology more accessible to people. He also said that the Golf of the future must still be the people’s car.

Better than the first concept, the Crozz II aesthetically looks better with its new and cleaner headlights, getting rid of the louver-like strips of LED lights. The contrast that the two-tone paint gives really helped with the vehicle’s design, especially from the rear three-quarters perspective. There is a nice balance between the silver roof and the red body, making it really stand out from the crowd.

GMC hopes to reel in younger buyers with small crossover

If you are looking at purchasing a GMC crossover now, the least you will have to spend is about $25,970. That’s the price of the 2018 Terrain model that is known for its controversial shifter. If you’re in the market for something else and you don’t mind waiting a few more years, here’s some good news. Duncan Aldred, Vice President of Buick and GMC, stated in his interview with Automotive News that they are currently evaluating a new entry-level crossover. If this is given the go signal, then expect to spend less on a smaller crossover in the coming years.

Aldred believes that it would be logical to add a smaller CUV to the family as a way to expand the company’s lineup. In doing so, the brand also provides a more affordable option compared to the 2018 Terrain. In another interview, he was also asked regarding models that would directly rival the upcoming Jeep Wrangler, and he said that the entry-level crossover would not compete with the Jeep as it is positioned in another segment. But he did say that there may be an opportunity for them in that segment, if the model gets the stamp of approval. The company actually admitted that they should have been the first to lead the small crossover segment.

The reason why the company is considering a model slotted under the Terrain might actually be because of the Encore’s success - this is the Opel Mokka’s North American sibling. The Encore had been the top-selling model of Buick since 2015. If GMC pushes through with their plan to come up with a smaller crossover, they will definitely attract the younger market, as this will cost thousands of dollars less than the Terrain’s starting price. Furthermore, GMC will have more opportunities to rival Jeep models, with the Renegade starting at $17,995 and the Compass at $20,995. Those two are already lower-priced options compared to the GMC Terrain.

2018 VW T-Roc will be exclusive to Europe and China, not in the United States

Volkswagen recently revealed their first ever compact crossover, namely the T-Roc. This model goes right below the Tiguan in the company’s lineup, as its smallest subcompact ever. This model is like a hybrid of an SUV and a compact hatchback, and what we know is that it will be sold in Europe before the year ends. The CUV will make its first public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

When the T-Roc becomes available in Germany and the rest of Europe, customers will be able to choose from a number of engine options - for both gasoline and diesel. This includes a 1.0 liter, a 1.5 liter, and 2.0 liter TSI units, with 114 horsepower (85 kilowatts), 148 horsepower (110 kW), and 188 horsepower (140 kW), respectively. The first two can be had with six speed manual giving power to the front wheels, while a seven-speed dual clutch can be an option for the 1.5 liter unit. The 2.0, on the other hand can be paired with the dual-clutch box. For those who prefer driving a diesel, the T-Roc will be available in a 1.6 liter or a 2.0 liter TDI motor with the same output as the gasoline engines. For the T-Roc, entry-level models will be available in front-wheel drive, while larger engines can get an all-wheel drive option.

Initially, the company considered a plan to bring the model to the United States after the European release, but it seems like the company has changed their mind. Because now, reports say that the model will only be limited to Europe and China, and that piece of tidbit apparently came from VW insiders. This means that the United States will only be limited to the Tiguan if they want a compact model. But even with this statement, US fans should not lose hope at all, as there is still chance for a US-spec T-Roc, said Automobile Magazine. It is just a matter of when we will see one. Who knows, maybe the T-Roc’s future successor will head to North America.

Volkswagen recently just announced their first compact crossover for Europe, that is the stylish T-Roc. However, they also made it clear that only the Polo and Golf hatchbacks will be getting the GTI treatment. This means that we should not expect the Passat or Touareg in a Grand Touring Injection variant. With that being said, you cannot stop artists from rendering what they’ve imagined, and this time, it is a T-Roc GTI. That was quick considering that the CUV only made its world premiere a few days ago.

Without a doubt, the sporty version of the T-Roc will get the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine from the Golf GTI that can produce as much as 245 horsepower. The GTI Performance upgrade is currently available in Europe. But just because VW is not planning a GTI treatment for the T-Roc doesn’t mean it will not have any other variants. And sources say that there may be a chance for a T-Roc R that is a little more powerful with 310 horsepower engine just like the Golf R.

This was because Herbert Diess, VW chairman, said a few months ago that he would like to consider a more powerful all-wheel-drive T-Roc R. To further support this statement, sources that are close to Wolfsburg have told Autocar that the company’s head asked his engineers to build a development car. If Diess sends the go signal, then expect the T-Roc R to go on production, and it should be ready after the Tiguan R’s release. The Tiguan R is another hot AWD that a lot of us are expecting to see, with a five-cylinder 2.5 liter engine just like the Audi RS3 supposedly.

Finally, a compact crossover from Volkswagen. That is the T-Roc, a CUV that finds itself just below the Tiguan in the company’s lineup. Speaking of compact vehicles and size, the T-Roc is 166.7 inches (4,234 millimeters) in length, with a 102.5-inch (2,603 millimeters) wheelbase.

That makes it 9.9 inches (252 mm) shorter than a Tiguan. As for the cargo space, it can be expanded from a minimum of 15.72 cubic feet (445 liters) to a maximum space of 45.56 cubic feet (1,290 liters) when the seats are folded.

The T-Roc will be released in Europe first in 2018, before it heads to North America for the next model year. Furthermore, the US market will probably not get as many engine options. The T-Roc will be making its first appearance during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

While Honda’s new 2018 HR-V will be rolling out at the dealerships with just a few updates, the company is certainly not giving up its spot as the best-selling vehicle in the segment. Honda knows it has a winner in the HR-V.

In a press release, Honda North America said the new HR-V will boast a more generous interior room comparable to those on the midsize SUVs. Its Magic Seat technology, which provides various interesting setups, can make room for up to 100 cubic feet. Still for the upcoming model year, the subcompact crossover will get a new set of wheels with black insets both for the EX and EX-L. In addition, Honda throws in the new Aegean Blue Metallic paint that will be offered with some of its trims for the new 2018 model.

The 2018 HR-V is powered by a 141-hp (105kW) and 127-lb-ft (172Nm) of torque 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired to either CVT or six- speed manual. Its EPA- estimated fuel return is at 31 miles per gallon which means the HR-V is quite fuel efficient. Like before, a choice between all-wheel or front -wheel drive layout is available.

Recently, Porsche revealed a new Macan Turbo wearing a Performance Package and a unique Porsche Motorsport themed paint. At first look, it will remind you of the 919 Hybrid and the 911 RSR.

The range topping Macan has a combination of black, red, white and silver. But we would say that it is a safe livery to use on the model, and it would be great if Porsche could use wilder colours like Jägermeister's burnt orange shade or the famous Gulf design.

The Macan Turbo already performs well, but this can even be upgraded with the Performance Pack, making it the hottest variant among crossovers out there. The new 3.6 liter biturbo V6 can produce 440 horsepower (324 kilowatts) and 442 pound feet (600 Newton metres) of torque. This adds another 40 horsepower (29 kW) and 36 pound-feet (49 Nm) of torque over the standard model. This upgrade makes the Macan do the 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) sprint from 4.4 seconds down to 4.2 seconds only. As for the top speed, it gets a little push of 5 miles per hour (8 kilometers per hour) more than usual, totaling to 169 miles per hour (272 kph).

The increasing demand for sports utility vehicles has convinced many carmakers to jump into the craze. Porsche is definitely not new to the SUV game, as it has already been 15 years since it launched the Cayenne. In 2014, Porsche introduced the Macan. With the still surging demand for SUVs, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Porsche decides to launch another unit, this time a more compact crossover.

How would this new compact SUV look like? It might not be hard to imagine, considering that Porsche already has two SUV offerings. The German luxury sports car maker just needs to take the cues of the Cayenne and the Macan, and apply them in a more compact package. But a certain automotive designer Emre Husmen of Salzburg, Austria posted a number of images in his social account in Behance depicting a new compact SUV from Porsche.

Working as a transportation designer for KISKA GmbH with previous employment at Ford and Fiat, Husmen rendered an interesting concept of a new Porsche SUV. It is interesting since this compact SUV concept isn’t derived from the Porsche Cayenne or Macan, but from the carmaker’s world-renowned staple sports car – the 911. Much more interesting is the fact that Husmen’s creation isn’t just a typical 911, but the version with a targa top – the Porsche 911 Targa. As per Husmen’s word, his work is a 911 package in an SUV. Its name? Husmen baptized his new creation as the Porsche 911X Targa.

German premium carmaker BMW is expected to unveil one of its newest sports utility vehicles – the BMW X2 – at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. But still, that doesn’t prevent BMW from teasing the new X2 with the official images.

However, fans, enthusiasts and potential customers may not rejoice yet, since the images released by BMW don’t fully reveal the complete appearance of the X2 as the sporty SUV is still wrapped in camouflage. Despite the camouflage wrap, a keen eye would be able to sort out several critical details on the new SUVs exterior, like its powerful front end, sculpted sides, and dynamic rear.

Interestingly, the camouflage wrap on the new BMW X2 isn’t the usual black-grey-white one used in hiding the exterior looks of a new vehicle. The new BMW X2 is wrapped in colorful camouflage, with black, grey and white joined by yellow and orange, making the new sporty SUV look ready not just for the road but for the urban jungle.

Volkswagen has been around for many decades, and for a company so popular, they seem to not have a lot of crossovers and SUVs in their product lineup - but not anymore. This year, VW announced their plans to come out with a T-Roc, which will be placed below the Tiguan in terms of size, height, as well as pricing. The T-Roc is said to be released in Europe before the year ends, but it will take a little longer for the United States market.

As part of its marketing campaign, the company came out with two sketch designs of the T-Roc, following its reveal on August 23 before it gets transported to the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The T-Roc is not really a secret that Volkswagen has been hiding. In fact, we already know that it will be part of the MQB platform, which also means that it won’t be that difficult to guess its technical specifications. We actually do think that the T-Roc will stand out from the other models considering the fact that it is the first model that will be using a mild hybrid system.

How would an Audi R8 look like when it is transformed into an extreme off-road vehicle? Essentially, that would mean fitting the Audi R8 with a number of off-road features and equipment, including massive wheels, frontal protection, fog lights and wider fenders. But imagining an off-road version of the Audi R8 isn’t the easiest thing to do; it’s good that a visual designer named Mo Aoun saved us the trouble.

Transforming the Audi R8 into an off-road specialist may seem far-fetched. However, such an idea isn’t really new as there were already a number of renderings that transformed sports cars and luxury coupes into off-road vehicles. Likewise, the idea of rendering an Audi R8 into something else isn’t entirely new for Mo Aoun, as this visual designer already has a wide portfolio of renderings. In fact, MoAoun could be remembered for rendering a Mercedes G-Class, a Tesla Model X and Rolls-Royce Ghost.

As for the off-road rendering of Audi R8, it looks like a confident unit ready to take part in the Baja 1000 race. The Audi R8 off-roader – wrapped in a scarlet-like color finish -- boasts of having twice the overall height of a typical R8, thanks to its giant tires and its suspension system – all attributes of an off-road vehicle. This suspension system – as well as the massive tires -- was also responsible for giving this Audi R8 off-roader a huge ground clearance.

The persistent trend in the automotive industry remains to be the shift to electric-powered models. While most brands are developing new products to achieving that end, customers and enthusiasts have been accustomed to hearing the word “delay” associated with Maserati.

All that is about to change with the recent announcement of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Maserati’s parent company, outlining its green program. None other than CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed during a conference call with investors that at least 50% of the corporation’s range will be electrified, in one way or another, by the year 2022.

CEO Marchionne, who intends to retire by 2019, declared that given the fate of diesel in the Europe market, the issue has become mandatory. He said further that there will be no choice but to implement some degree of electrification when it comes to gas engines.

The 2018 Jaguar E-Pace is the leaping cat’s first venture into the compact SUV segment, and sure enough, it didn’t take long before an artist rendered a wilder version of the small SUV. Enter the Jaguar E-Pace RS by X-Tomi Design - the artist’s own interpretation of the SUV with unusual performance.

To start off, X-Tomi enhances the size of the small SUV’s front bumper and side skirts. Perhaps, these are done to match the ideal standards of a possible Jaguar E-Pace high performance RS variant. There are also some visibly larger wheels, black accents and bits of carbon fiber to complete the high-performance look.

Being the newest member of the brand’s growing range of SUVs, the E-Pace is designed as a five-seater, small SUV that offers plenty of space as well as the latest connected technologies available. Among them are the infotainment system’s 10-inch touch screen monitor with 3 adjustable controllers for the fan speed and temperature setting, a head-up display screen as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The storage space between the two front seats is at 2.2 gallon while the rear area has a capacity of up to 22.4cu.ft. Using the 60:40 split folding set up, the storage space can be expanded even further.

Audi’s intention to bring out the Renn Sport Racing version of the Q5 was made clear when it unveiled the Audi SQ5 at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show early this year. Amazingly, the new Audi RS Q5 is expected to show off its high-performance nature by having under its elegantly sporty bonnet a powerful engine that is already fitted in the new Audi RS 5 Coupe.

Following the reveal of the SQ5 in January 2017, it was widely expected that Audi would take the wraps off the new RS Q5 at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. To the dismay of many Audi fans and enthusiasts, that unveiling didn’t happen, and the guessing game for the new Audi RS Q5 continues. Of course, one of the matters being debated is the core of the any vehicle – the engine.

As revealed, the Audi SQ5 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 TFSI aluminum engine that delivers 260 kW (354 hp) of max output and 500 Nm (368.8 lb.-ft.) of peak torque available between 1,370 rp and 4,500 rpm. This allows the SQ5 to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 5.4 seconds on the way to reaching an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.3 mph).

Alpine is said to be developing an SUV which is believed to be the Porsche Macan’s closest rival. According to AutoExpress, the newly revived performance brand has been looking to release a small SUV following the launch of the A110 at this year’s Geneva Auto Show.

The fact that Renault and Nissan have what it takes to make it big in the SUV segment means that Alpine won’t have to start from scratch in developing a new SUV. The family utility vehicle will be taking its styling cues from the mid-engine sports coupe and is expected to reveal the vehicle by 2019.

To be at par with Porsche’s best-selling vehicle, perhaps the French marque only has to ensure that the SUV will be carrying the sports DNA which Alpine is known for.

"It has every reason to succeed" -- this is what Finbar McFall, global product marketing director, has to say about the new Jaguar E-Pace small SUV. He said this during an interview when asked if the small SUV could outsell the current favourite, which is the mid-sized F-Pace SUV.

Jaguar developed the E-Pace to go up against the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. It is not just a smaller version of the F-Pace as it is completely unique in its own way. In terms of size, it is very similar to that of the Audi Q3.

The E-Pace, also known as "the cub", was built with some inspiration from the Range Rover Evoque. After 3 years of development, combined with Jaguar XF's suspension hardware, the company came out with a sporty SUV. Chief engineer Graham Wilkins made sure that the E-Pace drives just like a Jaguar.

The Concept X2, introduced back at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, impressed many people with its low-profile roof, and dramatic front end. Its looks implied a better performance and it appeared to be less of a utilitarian car such as traditional SUVs.

Did you wonder how a BMW X2 production version would look like? Well, it shouldn't be that hard to imagine. Just take the concept, and bring the styling down a notch by around 25 percent. The Japanese bureau submitted patent drawings of what could be the production-ready BMW X2 last February 22, but these had only been published on July 3rd.

The changes made to the final X2 are likely the same ones you would see on the patent. The slender side mirrors have been replaced with a set of chunkier side mirrors that offer a better view of the back.

The world never runs out of adventure, which is why BMW Lifestyle has teamed up with “Specialized” to develop the special edition E-mountain bike. Branded as Specialized Turbo Levo FSR 6Fattie, the exclusively designed mountain bike has been given the new Phytonic Blue paint job to match the official color of the 3rd generation BMW X3 (G01).

To further complement the new SUV, the trail bike is equipped with a water bottle with the tagline “Specialized For BMW”. The price? Let’s just say the regular Specialized Turbo Levo FSR 6Fattie costs $4,500 (or about 3,900 in euros in Germany). Now for those who want the special edition BMW version of the mountain bike, they can have it for the price of $5,900 (5,200 euros).

What makes it more interesting to have is that the e-bike features a 504Wh battery pack with a dock that lets you recharge its battery off the bike. Similarly, BMW developed a special charging cable that can be hooked to the SUV’s 12V power socket without compromising its own supply.

Last month, the Hyundai Kona was spotted without any cover during a supposed promotional video shoot in Lisbon, Portugal. Since then, we have been highly anticipating its arrival. But our wait is now over, as Hyundai has finally presented its all-new Hyundai Kona, to the delight of avid followers of sub-compact SUVs.

Hyundai's latest addition to the line-up is quite a big deal. The Kona gives us a glimpse of the funky new styling direction for the Korean automaker's entire utility vehicle range. Notably, it will have the new B-segment platform. This is a good move since many consumers have become familiar with the unique designs of the likes of the Jeep Cherokee and Nissan Juke. Now it is expected that this styling pattern will be utilized for a long time.

Kona has been compared to the Cherokee, Juke and even the Toyota C-HR. But as far as we can see, the Kona has more appeal, aesthetically speaking. Up front, the Kona's split-light design definitely catches attention in a good way. The sub-compact SUV has a top row of running LED lights for its turn signals, and the bigger housings found beneath contain the LED headlights.
