Renault considers dropping the Dacia Logan MCV, Dokker and Lodgy

Three Renault models are at risk of being terminated as the vehicle market steers away from vans and stations wagons. The models are the Logan MCV station wagon, Dokker car-based van and the Lodgy compact minivan from Dacia, a spokesman disclosed, confirming a report from Les Echos.

According to Inovev analyst Jamel Taganza, the market in those segments is moving toward SUV/crossovers across the subcompact, compact and economy car segments.

Sales of the Lodgy have dropped in Europe while volume for the Dokker is flat. On the other, a new generation Logan MCV helped the model post significant jump in sales.

Renault’s rivals in India should be alarmed with the task that Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has given to Gerard Detourbet, who is responsible for the Logan. Detourbet is now working on an even less expensive vehicle program for India that can compete with very fuel-efficient companies like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

If Detourbet succeeds, Renault will then have a new weapon with which to beat rivals in emerging markets around the world. Earlier this year, the 66-year-old Detourbet transferred to Chennai, India. He has been successful at creating a supplier network in India with a strong team of local executives, some of whom were stolen from the competition.

In a recent interview, Detourbet said that he doesn’t plan on “poaching” people but that these people from Suzuki and Hyundai tend to approach him.

New Dacia Logan will be displayed together with the new Dacia Sandero at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. During the past 10 years under Renault ownership, Dacia experienced rapid growth that was initiated by the Logan, a four-door notchback. The brand will be launched in the UK in January 2013 but this model won’t be available in the country.

The first Dacia models for its UK lineup are the Sandero and Duster. The new Logan has a front-end styling that’s similar to that of the Sandero. It takes its inspiration from the bigger Duster. Dacia has made an attempt to emphasize the robustness of the Logan by giving it a sculpted waistline and bolder wheel arches.

As a result, it appears thicker and it also has more character. The new Sandero has an interior that’s nearly the same as the new Logan. Its quality and design are now also better. The Logan is built on nearly the same B0 platform as what the other models I the Dacia range use. The complete details about its engine range will be confirmed at the Paris Motor Show.
