Talks will start later this year between Mercedes-Benz USA and its dealerships over plans to handle the new vehicles that will be coming within the next several years. CEO Steve Cannon said that the brand is on its way to selling 400,000 vehicles in the U.S. in the upcoming years and so, around 25% of its stores will have to add showroom and vehicle storage space as well as service capacity.
He said that plans are expected to be made in 2016 and that construction will be from 2017 to 2018. He added that the automaker expects significant growth to happen, especially with the segments that are being added. He estimates that it will take about two years to reach 400,000 cars. When that figure is reached, there will be a dealer network shortage.
He explained that the dealerships have to take care of the volume of buyers. They may do so in various ways. They can add bays, widen the size of the service area, or add a second shift. Cannon revealed that a second service shift may be introduced at the brand’s Manhattan dealership, the only one that’s owned by the company in the U.S. He said that this isn’t a very common method to expand the service but it’s a “great way to sweat your assets."Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz US dealers will add space, service capacity
Mercedes-Benz USA is expecting its dealership network to be stunned by a deluge of off-lease vehicles at some point. At the event, the brand may be forced to increasingly sell off-lease vehicles via non-Mercedes dealers, according to the company’s remarketing manager, Stephen Nicholson. He divulged that Mercedes-Benz USA would have around 200,000 units “coming back at some point.”
He said while Mercedes dealers will be prioritized for off-lease units, the proportion of sales via non-Mercedes channels would increase as overall volumes surge. Nicholson remarked that further engagement with non-Mercedes dealers is a way to have “the appropriate number of eyeballs on the vehicles.”
He added that Mercedes-Benz USA already has 365 dealers, and it has no plans add 365 more.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz expects US dealers to be stunned by a deluge of off-lease vehicles
Mercedes-Benz Vans USA will add dealers and models as it bids to hike sales in the next few years, says Bernie Glaser, Mercedes-Benz USA vice president and managing director of the van unit. Glaser remarked that the Sprinter is the ideal vehicle to take advantage of the growing popularity of European-style vans in the United States -- taller and lighter and more fuel efficient than the vans they're replacing.
"The Sprinter is the benchmark and the norm of the Euro-style vans," remarked Glaser. "There is a revolution happening in the segment and big changes coming that were caused by the Sprinter -- vans with a smaller footprint but big cargo volume." Carmakers like Ford, Nissan and Chrysler, have or are preparing new van entries.
According to Glaser, the Sprinter generates nearly $1 billion in revenues in the US. Mercedes is planning to accelerate US growth by introducing a new four-cylinder turbodiesel engine from the E-class sedan paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz Vans USA to add dealers and offer new models
Dealers for luxury brands usually are the most effective deal-closers and the best in making customers happy, according to study of car dealership sales techniques by Pied Piper Management Co. Dealers for Mercedes-Benz topped the survey, followed by Infiniti and Lexus. Hyundai, Kia, Ford and Toyota were sitting atop volume brands on the 11-month mystery shopping study.
Pied Piper used 5,203 mystery shoppers to repeatedly visit dealerships to analyze their processes and techniques, with an aim to create its so-called Prospect Satisfaction Index. According to Pied Piper chief executive Fran O'Hagan, their survey is distinct from J.D. Power and Associates' Sales Satisfaction Index since the latter "only measures everything after the customer says, 'I'll take it.'"
He noted that Prospect Satisfaction Index measures "how effectively the sales team sells." A number of sales tactics proved to be working best across all brands. Some of the tactics include offering a test drive and trying to get the customers to the negotiating table. The survey, however, shows that a small percentage of dealerships do neither of those tactics.Read the entire article Survey: Mercedes-Benz dealers know how to sell their cars

Carlex Design isn't a beginner with regards to tuning the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. In fact, it has even created a version with Maybach-like appearance and features. It has also created Off-Road-focused and Urban-tailored versions. Now, Carlex Design seems to be not contented with how far it has gone with the X-Class and is now presenting a new concept design for the luxury SUV from Mercedes.
Indeed, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class represents the luxury side of pickup trucks. While offering a drive that is comparable to a sports utility vehicle, the X-Class also delivers a smooth, comfortable ride that is expected of luxurious vehicles. Furthermore, it is laden with features usually found in premium cars. But at Carlex Design, the X-Class can be turned into luxurious 6x6 beast off the road. This can be well seen on the new X-Class Exy 6x6 Concept by Carlex Design.
The X-Class Exy 6x6 Concept is essentially the X-Class evolved into a whole new luxurious beast. It is much different from Carlex Design’s previous re-imaginations of Mercedes’ luxury pickup. The concept pickup has six wheels – two wheels more than a standard X-Class and previous Carlex Design X-Class creations. This also meant an extra axle on the rear section of this X-Class 6x6. The addition of two wheels naturally resulted to an extended bed, allowing this conversion of the X-Class to load and carry a greater volume of cargo.Read the entire article Carlex Design transforms the Mercedes-Benz X-Class into the beastly Exy 6x6 Concept
Plug-in hybrid vehicles are increasingly the mobility of choice for many people. For short drives around the city or urban areas, plug-in hybrid can be switched to all-electric mode for a zero-emission driving experience. However, current plug-in hybrids can only offer up to 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range.
Mercedes-Benz is hoping to break the status quo by not just surpassing the 50-km barrier, but also offering up to 100 km (62 miles) in pure electric range. Quite a number of plug-in hybrids still offer 30 km of electric range, while there is an increasing number of models that are engineered to reach 50 km.
As divulged by Ola Kallenius, head of Daimler group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE PHEV will be the first plug-in hybrid to offer a 100-km range, as per WLTP cycle.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz claims upcoming GLE PHEV will have a 100-km all-electric range
The battle for supremacy in China among premium SUVs with long wheelbases will soon hot as Mercedes-Benz reveals the long-wheelbase version of the GLC. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC L will only be sold in the Chinese market and will compete against the long-wheelbase variant of the Audi Q5 crossover (Q5 L). Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the new GCL L to the public at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in November 2018.
When compared, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC L basically looks like the regular wheelbase version – just like any extended model being sold in the Chinese market. However, the long wheelbase variant of the GCL does appear extended on the side because of its now stretched length. This is evident beyond the B-pillars of the new GLC L, where the roofline looks to have grown longer. This is also evident when looking at its rear doors, which now appear to be longer than those in the regular wheelbase version of the GLC SUV.
For its exact dimensions, the new Mercedes GCL L measures around 4.76 meters (187.6 inches) in overall length as well as 1.89 meters (74.7 inches) in overall width. Its wheelbase – the main focus of this version – has grown by around 100 mm (3.93 inches). An extended wheelbase typically results to larger space in the rear cabin, given rear passengers more room to operate, especially with their legs. Since many people in China tend to be chauffeured off than to drive, vehicles with long wheelbases are a hit in this part of the world. Nonetheless, Mercedes will offer both versions of the GLC – regular model and the L variant – in China.Read the entire article China-exclusive 2019 Mercedes-Benz GCL L long-wheelbase finally introduced
German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz has created a new plug-in hybrid vehicle that combines the power of two technologies –electricity (battery) and fuel cell (hydrogen). In short distances, it relies on pure electricity. When there is a need to travel over long distance, this plug-in hybrid relies on the power of fuel cell. This is the new Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL PHEV.
Using the Mercedes GLC as the base, this technological showcase isn't a futuristic vehicle, but is a real SUV that will be delivered to customers at the end of October 2018. It was originally envisioned as a plug-in hybrid, but now represents an important step by the German carmaker in the development of fuel cell technology.
As engineered, the Mercedes GLC F-CELL PHEV features four operating modes: Battery, Charge, F-Cell and Hybrid. All operating modes are supported by an energy recovery function that allows energy to be recovered during braking or coasting, then store it in the lithium-ion battery.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL PHEV makes use of battery and fuel cell for operations
In terms of performance, the Mercedes-AMG GT – whether in its base or R version -- already packs a good punch. Nonetheless, several tuning companies have already created their own version of the AMG GT, and they all managed to create a greater monster out of the "Beast of the Green Hell." Now, it is the turn of Fostla, a tuning firm from Germany, to show off its own formula of steroids for the AMG GT.
First off, Fostla saw it fit to make the AMG GT look meaner on the road. This entails the fitment of a number of aftermarket parts and components. While these aftermarket parts and components should make the AMG GT become visually more appealing and more dynamic, they should give these beast an aerodynamic advantage.
To achieve this, Fostla saw it suitable to install a widebody kit, which aftermarket package was provided by Prior Design. This widebody kit gave the AMG GT wider hips as well as a rear wing. Prior Design’s aftermarket package likewise includes a number of aerodynamic elements like front and rear flicks as well as a meaner rear diffuser. Up front, the stock front grille of the AMG GT was replaced with a blacked-out configuration evoking the Panamericana grille.Read the entire article This Mercedes-AMG GT tuned by Fostla is a green monster on the road
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is introducing the latest generation of its flagship heavy-duty truck – the all-new Mercedes-Benz Actros. The all-new flagship truck is now more efficient, more comfortable, more integrated and more high-tech. For the newest generation, the all-new Actros gets rid of the conventional side mirrors and makes use of side mirror cameras called MirrorCam.
The online introduction of the new Mercedes Actros serves as a precursor to the official unveiling of the all-new flagship truck at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show, which is scheduled to happen from September 20 to 27, 2018 in Hanover, Germany. It will be available to order as soon as the 2018 IAA show starts, with first batch of deliveries set in spring 2019. The new Actros can be configured according to the requirement and needs of its customers.
Compared to its predecessor, the all-new Mercedes Actros consumes up to five percent less fuel on rural routes as well as up to three percent less fuel on long-distance haulage. Annual mileage in long-distance haulage usually exceeds 120,000 km, and a three-percent less fuel consumption on motorways and expressways means that a lot of fuel and money is saved. This feat is achieved through improved aerodynamics, advanced Predictive Powertrain Control and a new rear axle ratio.Read the entire article New generation of Mercedes-Benz Actros introduced with MirrorCam technology
Crime prevention is usually a job for the police authorities. Nonetheless, being in the wrong time and wrong place can make one a victim of a crime. Mercedes-Benz is currently working on an app that would allow drivers and their passengers to not become crime victims.
Places usually not frequented by many people are the usual venues for crimes. Criminals lurk in these places simply because the chances of being seen or caught are quite low. One of these places is the parking area, where vehicles typically outnumber people, except when it is time to go home. Going into a safe parking area already means a lot for any driver. At Mercedes-Benz, its software developers are finding ways to help Mercedes-Benz drivers avoid parking areas that are prone to crime.
Still under development and planned for future use on Mercedes-Benz models in the United State, this new app allows cars to use crime data to recommend safe parking spaces or areas. An in-car service, the new app would cross-reference police statistics with available parking spaces, to tell Mercedes-Benz drivers whether it is safe or not to park in a certain parking space.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz is working on a new app that warns on safety of parking areas
Mercedes-AMG has a new entry-level performance model that will compete in the compact segment. Set to go against the Audi S3 hatchback, the new Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC is out to prove that premium hot hatches are able to deliver a new level of driving performance on the road.

For instance, the front end of the new AMG A 35 4MATIC is marked by a radiator grille with twin louvers, a front splitter and a AMG Line front apron with flics on the air intakes. Silver chrome trims are also found on the louvers in the outer air intakes. On the sides, the premium hot hatch features side sill panels of the AMG Line as well as aerodynamically optimized 18-inch light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design.
