Chevrolet offers big discount for Corvette Z06 amid disappointing sales

Even as Chevrolet is making a huge splash in the industry with the recent launch of the new Corvette ZR1, there may be trouble brewing. Chevrolet has announced huge discounts on its 7th generation Corvette, particularly the Z06. Why is this so? We’re thinking that this might have been brought on by the brand’s 20% overall sales drop in the first ten months of 2017.

Chevrolet has only delivered a total of 1,345 Corvettes this October, a 49% drop compared to the same month last year. Sales have been really bad since January up to October of 2017 as the company has only sold 20,236 units against 25,345 units sold last year. The less than stellar figures majorly contributed to this year’s 20% sales decline.

But then, the Corvette Z06 continues to be one of the most potent muscle cars in the market thanks to its 6.2–liter supercharged V8 engine that generates a massive 650hp (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft (485 Nm) of torque. Not to mention, Chevy offers its customers a choice between an eight speed automatic and a seven speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet is giving rebates (valued at up to 10% of the price) for every purchase of a C7 Corvette Stingray

Been thinking of upgrading your current ride? Now may be a good time to go shopping. Chevrolet is giving out a good deal, and is currently offering rebates up to 10 percent off the price tags of certain C7 Corvettes, according to Corvette Blogger.

Now, you must be asking why they are pulling off this promo. The reason for this is most likely because they have a lot of Corvettes stocked in their inventory that they have to get rid of. That usually is the main reason why cars go on sale, to move the cars out from the dealership to the driveway, and to your garages.

Compared to last year’s records, Corvette sales this year have gone down significantly. But they aren’t the only ones suffering from this. Many automakers have been experiencing a decline in the sales of their sedans too. There seems to be a trend where people are shifting to crossovers and SUVs.

Hyundai to offer discounts on outgoing Elantra as new version nears

The redesigned Hyundai Elantra will be rolled out in the near future, and the South Korean carmaker is taking a chunk off the price of the current version to clear out its inventory. According to Hyundai Motor America chief executive Dave Zuchowski, there is a need to sell the current Elantra down “on a smooth basis to clear the decks” for the new one.

He told Automotive News following a meeting with dealers that Hyundai will offer increased incentives and extra-rich trim packages for the MY2016 Elantra to give the model an edge over its rivals. During the meeting, Hyundai introduced Sam Suh, the new CEO of Hyundai Capital America, parent Hyundai Motor Finance and Kia Motors Finance.

Suh told dealers that there are plans to offer discount financing for returning customers to boost customer loyalty. Zuchowski quipped that Suh announced some changes that will allow them to capture returning customers.

General Motors has launched its GM Educator Discount program, which will offer price cuts on most 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet, GMC and Buick vehicles to teachers and other employees of either public or private schools. The program will last until Jan. 2, 2015. The program does not include the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Spark EV and will allow school employees to buy or lease up to two discounted vehicles.

The program also welcomes school employees’ spouses and children. Their children should be under age 21 or full-time students under age 25 to be eligible in the program. Dealerships may opt out of participating in the program.

Lisa Gill, account supervisor with public relations firm MSLGROUP said the program’s discounts are similar to those offered to GM suppliers. Supplier pricing is the dealer invoice price plus shipping and a $150 program fee.

Fiat is offering its employees EUR1,000 discount on top of Fiat's standard employee discount tagged at between 12 percent and 26 percent, depending on the model. The offer was announced last week at two of Fiat’s Italian sites – in Mirafiori and Pomigliano -- in a dramatic manner.

When employees reported to work, they were greeted by their foreign-made cars from brands like Volkswagen and Peugeot "wrapped up" in a giant plastic bag, with a Valentine heart on top. It comes with a message (in Italian) printed on top of a red heart with a crack running from top to bottom.

It reads as translated: "Seeing you with someone else breaks my heart. But we're still thinking of you anyways." The promotional campaign created by Fiat's marketing office with public relations agency So Simple was done to entice workers at its Mirafiori and and Pomigliano site to take advantage of a special discount on new Fiats.

Volvo Cars of North America has dropped a new dealer discount program that paid dealers another 2 or 3 percentage points for enhancing their dealerships. According to acting chief executive Tony Nicolosi, the decision to drop the program was due to the fact that struggling dealers are in no position to improve their stores for the Volvo Retail Experience program.

Volvo’s sales in the country continue to drop. It also has no new offerings in the next two years.

According to Nicolosi, Volvo is working on a new facilities program to be revealed at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in January 2014 in New Orleans. After dropping the new program, Volvo will go back to its previous fixed dealer discount of 14 percent on new vehicles.

To boost sales for its slow-selling all-electric RAV4 compact crossover, Toyota is discounting the unit via low-cost lease and loan offers. Toyota is offering until Sept. 3, 2013 the option of a $299-a-month, three-year lease for the RAV$, or a 60-month, no-interest loan, according to the carmaker’s Web site.

The discount offers is only good in the Los Angeles and San Francisco regions, according to Toyota spokeswoman Carly Schaffner. Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co. and General Motors Co. are already offering discounted leases to boost sales of their electric offerings.

Toyota said in 2012 that it expects to sell 2,600 RAV4 EVs by the end of 2014, but the carmaker had only delivered 709 units from September last year to the end of July. Michelle Krebs, a senior analyst at auto researcher Edmunds.com, remarked that the mass market has been reluctant to buy electric vehicles due to the high cost of the technology.

eBay Inc. started this week offering discounts to dealers who purchase national subscriptions to list their vehicles for sale on its Web site. According to Bryan Murphy, general manager of eBay Motors, eBay's automotive division, the site is offering 3- and 12-month subscriptions ranging from five to 100 listings a month at discounted prices, depending on the subscription length and number of listings. For example, a dealer can purchase a 12-month, 50-listing subscription, excluding upgrades, for just $2,000 per month. This reflects 20-percent savings over the $50 per-vehicle listing fee eBay typically charges.

According to Murphy, the discount program includes support from consultants and tools to help dealers improve their listings and track sales. He remarked that the program is in response to dealers who asked for volume discounts. Murphy said that subscriptions provide dealers a program where they can list a portfolio of vehicles consistently, “week in and week out, and do so consistently, with discounts."

Prior to the program, eBay's price for basic, no-frills listings was the same for all dealers, regardless of volume. With the program, dealers who list as few as five vehicles a month under a subscription will receive a call from consultants to provide with information like number of page views, number of unique contacts and vehicle sales numbers.

Renault is busy preparing for the launch of Romanian brand Dacia in the UK. However, senior officials clarified that it’s not yet sure if it will be permanently available in Renault’s showrooms. Despite the uncertainty, its models will be sold with absolutely no discounts. Renault UK and Dacia representatives were at the international press launch of the new Sandero and Sandero Stepway.

They were very firm in saying that the models will be marketed and sold at low list prices but it will definitely not go lower. This strategy is a contrast to how most volume-brand cars are marketed in Britain. They’re sold through either dealer- or manufacturer-funded list price offers.

Renault UK managing director Thierry Sybord said that Dacia’s policy of offering “transparent value-for-money” is a key aspect of the brand. He said that he believes British buyers will like the “simplicity” of purchasing a Dacia. But then, he is prepared to pull out the brand if he’s wrong.

Carmakers doing business in Germany are increasing customer incentives in order to bring in more buyers to their products, prompted by the current economic slump in the European country. German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz has been forced to increase incentives to a two-year high. It is now offering customers a EUR3,000 ($3,900) trade-in incentive just to boost vehicle sales.

The incentive equals the discounts being offered by French carmaker Renault for the Megane compact. On the other hand, price discounts at General Motors Co.\'s Opel unit and Ford Motor Co. now exceed EUR3,500 on compact cars. According to trade publication Autohaus PulsSchlag, German discounts on new vehicles soared to an average 12.2 percent in September, the highest since 2010.

The rise in incentives, however, has so far failed to translate into increase in sales, as carmakers in the country suffered an 11 percent car-sales drop in September 2012.

BMW AG had higher sales in July than Mercedes-Benz but it turns out that it’s only because BMW had inflated its figures when it gave dealers an offer on July 31 that they couldn’t resist. According to The Wall Street Journal, BMW gave discounts of up to $7,000 per 2012 vehicle to dealers if they reported the vehicles as sold on that day.

As a result, BMW was named the best-selling luxury brand in the U.S. in July. The report revealed that hundreds of vehicles that dealers claimed to already be sold were still advertised for sale as new. BMW spokesman Kenn Sparks said that demo vehicles were included in the sales figure for July. These demo units are used for test drives.

Sparks didn’t reveal the number of demo units cited in July sales tally since the company doesn’t provide this information to the public. For the month of July, BMW division sold 21,297 vehicles – which is 1,986 higher than Mercedes sales. Sales of the Sprinter commercial van are excluded in Mercedes’ total. It’s not clear how the demo sales affected BMW division's sales.

The base Leaf SV has a price tag of $36,050, including destination costs. The up-level SL is priced at $38,100. Suzuki is now offering its Suzuki Alto SZ city car for just £5,995 VAT free from July 2, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2012. Suzuki’s offer represents a £670 customer saving over previous Alto campaigns. Lexus has lost its decade-long reign at the U.S. premium car market to BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The two German automakers have been battling it out in the past months but there’s no clear winner just yet. As of the end of November, BMW had sold 221,073 units in the U.S., just 1,582 higher than Mercedes-Benz. The competition is so close that they’ve both unleashed all the discounting techniques that they could to attract customers.

TrueCar.com said that BMW and Mercedes-Benz are dangling about US$4,800 in discounts by subsidizing interest rates (as low as 0.9%), waiving lease payments for the initial months, increasing the residual value of vehicles when the lease expires, and throwing more incentives at loyal customers.

For this year, BMW’s auto sales increased by 12.3% while Mercedes-Benz posted an 11.8% increase. Overall, sales of U.S. premium vehicles went up by 35%.

With the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) changes to begin early next year, Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles has decided to extend its various special discounts on the Vauxhall range to owners of older vans from its London Retail Group until March 30, 2012. Beginning January 3, 2012, vans, which are 3.5 tons GVW and below and registered as new prior to January 1, 2002, will have to comply with daily LEZ charges.

Even with the LEZ changes relating to automobiles that are ten years and older, the group will extend the savings opportunity to customers of vehicles first registered as late as seven years ago.
