The 2013 Dodge Dart GT can now be ordered as Chrysler Group commenced production of more dynamic variant of the compact sedan. Dodge announced in January that it would start building the Dart GT in the second quarter of 2013. The Dart GT has the privilege of being the first production car to be powered by Chrysler's 2.4-liter inline naturally aspirated four-cylinder Tigershark engine.
The engine, complemented by Fiat's MultiAir2 variable valve timing and paired to either a six-speed manual or optional automatic transmission, provides 184 hp of output and 171 pounds-feet of torque. The Dart GT boasts of leather seats, Chrysler's 8.4-inch touch screen infotainment system and a 7-inch customizable instrument cluster display.
Interested buyers could avail of the GT package at starting price of $21,990, including shipping. New Dodge brand chief Tim Kuniskis expects the Dart GT to be a "home run" for the brand and the Dart. The brand sold 44,949 Darts in the first six months of 2013. Kuniskis remarked that the Dodge Dart GT provides them a chance to bring in some features that customers have been asking for since the launch of the compact sedan.Read the entire article Ordering and production of 2013 Dodge Dart GT has started
Chrysler Group is hoping that the latest installment of the Fast & Furious film would drive further demand for its Dodge Dart vehicle. Although the Dart doesn’t play any role in Fast & Furious 6, Dodge is hoping that a Fast & Furious-like advertisement and other marketing ties with the action-thriller will lead to people becoming more aware of the compact car.
Since its launch in June 2012, the Dart was not as saleable as it was expected to be, although Dodge was able made a good comeback in April 2013 by posting 8,099 units in sales. The slow start of the Dodge was partly attributed to the fact that early production vehicles were only available in manual transmissions.
According to Dave Sullivan, an analyst at AutoPacific Inc., Dodge was losing around 95 percent of potential Dart sales since it couldn't offer an automatic gearbox for the compact car. The Dodge Dart, which is Chrysler's first compact car since its dropped Neon in 2005, has received generally positive reviews, although some reviewers hit its performance.Read the entire article Dodge hopes Fast & Furious 6 tie-up leads to higher Dart sales
The limited-edition '13 Dart has recently been unveiled by Chrysler's performance-focused Mopar division. The modified Dart is set to debut at the upcoming Chicago Motor Show. It comes with a bold exterior design from Mopar that gets inspiration from the tuner industry. This car uses gloss black paint with a contrasting blue stripe and it features an aerodynamic body kit that is comprised of discreet spoilers on the front bumper and on the trunk lid, as well as an air diffuser out back.
The '13 Dart rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels that have gloss black paint. Chrysler said that the Moparized Dart gets a blue-stitched steering wheel and sport pedals as well as a numbered plaque on the dash. It comes with several advanced features as standard.
These include an 8.4-inch touch screen and wireless charging for mobile devices. Mopar didn’t change anything under the hood. The '13 Dart comes with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 160hp and 184 lb-ft. of torque. The Fiat 500 Abarth features the MultiAir mill that’s linked to a six-speed manual transmission.Read the entire article Chrysler introduces the 2013 Dodge Dart Mopar
Chrysler has released a teaser of yet another special-edition from Mopar, Chrysler’s service parts and performance accessories division. This tuned 2013 Dodge Dart is set to make its official debut at the Chicago Auto Show but Chrysler was only so generous as to tease the customized compact car before then.
From this single teaser image, we get a glimpse of its interior. We see that the two front buckets are leather trimmed and feature Mopar emblems embroidered into the seat backs. The driver’s seat uses bright blue leather while other seats have black leather trimming and are accented with blue stitching and inserts.
We don’t yet get to see what its exterior looks like but it’s believed that this special edition model will have black exterior paint and an offset blue stripe that runs along the length of the car just like the other Mopar special edition models (the Mopar ‘10 Challenger, the Mopar ‘11 Charger, and the Mopar ’12 Chrysler 300). The new Dart is expected to also have dark painted/tinted aluminum wheels, blacked-out trim accents, and unique badging.Read the entire article 2013 Chicago Auto Show: Chrysler teases special edition Dart from Mopar
Chrysler revealed today ahead of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show the new Dodge Dart GT, a model that features a sport-tuned suspension, distinctive styling and integrated dual exhaust. Still, this is not all as the new 2013 Dodge Dart comes with premium standard features such as perforated heated Nappa Leather seats, 8.4-inch touchscreen and 7-inch TFT for an outstanding value.
The 2013 Dodge Dart is the latest addition in the Dart lineup and for those who don’t know, this includes the Dart SE, SXT, Rallye, Aero and Limited models. The 2013 Dodge Dart will have a starting U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of only $20,995 (excluding destination). Under the hood we will find the 2.4-liter Tigershark Multiair2 four-cylinder engine delivering 184 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque.
This engine is bolted to six-speed manual transmission but as an option it can be fitted with a six-speed PowerTech automatic AutoStick. Other highlights of the 2013 Dodge Dart are the 18-inch aluminum wheels, unique performance front fascia with black accents and Hyper Black grille, black projector headlamp bezels, body-color door handles, racetrack LED taillamps, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, remote start (with automatic transmission), universal garage door opener and GT badge.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart GT makes its debut ahead of Detroit Auto Show
Chrysler said that it isn’t worried at all about the sharp drop in sales of the 2013 Dodge Dart in November, explaining that it’s merely teething issues for the new car and doesn’t mean that it is doomed. November sales fell 17% to only 4489 Darts sold. In comparison, 5,455 Darts were sold in October. Its latest sales are also 14% lower compared to the 5235 Dart sales in September.
With these numbers, the Dart is at the bottom of the segment. Chrysler sales and dealer communication spokesman Ralph Kisiel said that the 2013 Dodge Dart is still in launch mode and that sales are still slow since the plant hasn’t yet figured out which configurations (colors, equipment packages, engines, and transmissions) are most preferred by dealerships and customers.
For example, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne hoped that Dart Rallye models with a 1.4-liter turbo-four engine and manual transmission will help highlight the Dart’s sporting Alfa Romeo heritage. So the Belvidere, Illinois, factory had built many units with these configurations. However, there weren’t many buyers. Instead, the demand was for cars with automatic transmissions and the 2.0-liter “Tigershark” engine.Read the entire article Chrysler not worried about the sharp drop in sales of the 2013 Dodge Dart
Testers for Consumer Reports magazine were not impressed by several models that they recently examined. The 2013 Dodge Dart was described as "underpowered” while they claimed to be “underwhelmed” by General Motors Co's 2013 Cadillac XTS and Ford Motor Co's 2013 Lincoln MKS. The testers recommended Toyota Motor Corp's redesigned Lexus ES sedan but they clarified that the 2013 model doesn’t have the same ride and interior refinement as the previous ES.
The 2013 Dart sedan is the first jointly developed model from Fiat SpA and Chrysler. The 2013 Dart sedan considers the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Focus as its rivals.
Consumer Reports praised the "solid feel, handling and ride" of the Dart but it said that the compact sedan can’t be comparable yet to the best models in the class. Consumer Reports gave the Cadillac model a higher ranking than the Lincoln but still, none of them earned its recommendation.Read the entire article Consumer Reports not impressed by the 2013 Dodge Dart, Lincoln MKS, Cadillac XTS
The fuel economy rating of Dodge’s 2013 Dart fell short of 40-mpg, the magic number for the compact sedan segment, but its new 2013 Dart Aero has been reported to have an EPA rating of 40-41 mpg. The 2013 Dart’s efficient and robust 1.4-liter turbo-four was only able to achieve 39 mpg on the highway.
The Dart Aero uses the same tactics as its rivals to boost aerodynamics and lessen drag. Dodge makes use of items such as active grille shutters, underbody aero panels, and low profile and low-rolling resistance tires. The Dart’s 1.4-liter turbo-four, together with these improvements, enable the sedan to achieve 41 mpg on the highway with a six-speed manual or 40 mpg with the six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
It is priced from only $20,090 (including destination charges). There have been other automakers that have offered a high-mileage package for their compact sedans. These include Ford, Chevrolet, and Honda. The sedans of Hyundai and Mazda can offer 40 mpg but then, it doesn’t need an added package. The Dart has the same power as the Focus with 160hp. However, the Dart falls behind its rivals when it comes to city mpg by 1-2mpg.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart Aero rated by EPA at 41 mpg, priced from $20,090
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Dodge Dart as one of four new vehicles available in the U.S. to earn the "Top Safety Pick" award. The three other models are the Hyundai Motor Co. crossover Santa Fe, the Lexus ES 350 midsize luxury sedan, and the Subaru XV Crosstrek hatchback. Chrysler is relying on the Dodge Dart to be a top-selling small car.
The 2013 Dart is the first model that Fiat S.p.A. and Chrysler Group LLC jointly engineered and designed. Being named a "Top Safety Pick" means that the vehicle had a good performance in test crashes that evaluated front, side and rear impacts, and even rollovers. Reid Bigland, chief of Chrysler's Dodge brand, said that its engineers were able to deliver on their high expectations for the Dart.
Russ Rader, IIHS spokesman, said that the IIHS tested 180 vehicles for the 2012 model year. From that batch, 132 were awarded the Top Safety Pick designation. This December, the IIHS will issue its annual list of the safety report for vehicles available in the U.S. market.Read the entire article Dodge Dart, Lexus ES 350, Hyundai Santa Fe and Subaru XV Crosstrek named Top Safety Picks
Chrysler Group is conducting marketing campaigns for its vehicles on a staggered basis, primarily seen as a measure to ensure the dealers have enough of the new models on their lots before a bigger push is made. Chrysler Group recently broadcast its first TV commercial for the 2013 Dodge Dart, but will not make a bigger marketing push until September 2012, according to Richard Cox, director of the Dodge brand.
The gap between the marketing campaigns will allow Chrysler to put more Darts, including some with automatic gearboxes, onto dealer lots. Cox remarked that with the number of models and trim levels that the company will be rolling out, they need to implement a staggered launch, ensuring top quality in all of their vehicles.
Chrysler showed a 90-second commercial during the Major League Baseball's All-Star game on July 10, 2012. The company is slated to broadcast 60-second versions of the same commercial in movie theatres this summer.Read the entire article Chrysler employs staggered marketing for Dodge Dart
Dealerships say that Chrysler Group has begun to accept orders last week for the new 2013 Dodge Dart. The automaker will also be finalizing dealer allocations based partly on the number of slow-selling Dodge Calibers dealers sold before the Caliber was discontinued. The Darts for sale will begin to arrive in showrooms in late July or early August.
It was on May 7 that the first 2013 Dart was produced in Belvidere, Ill. Chrysler said that Darts will be seen in dealer showrooms by the end of this month. However, it will be demonstrator models that will be chosen by dealers at this month’s regional drive-away events.
Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said during a late May event in Belvidere that the Dart launch is experiencing production problems "but no more than any other car." Those interested can visit dodge.com to use an online configurator where they can make their own Darts. The Dart is priced from $16,790 to about $27,000 (including shipping).Read the entire article Dealers: Dodge Dart allocations will be based on how many Caliber compacts they sold
2013 Dodge Dart has already started production at the Belvidere, Illinois plant and will begin to arrive in dealership this June. The first unit that rolled off the line was a red Rallye model. It features a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four engine, a backup camera, a six-speed manual transmission, and sunroof. The 2012 Detroit auto show was where the 2013 Dodge Dart was unveiled.
The Dart SE has a starting price of $16,790 (which include a $795 destination charge) while opting for the Rallye trim level brings the price to as high as $19,790. The Dodge Rallye features the following as standard equipment: air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, distinctive front and rear fascias, dual exhaust tips, black headlight surrounds, and a steering wheel that’s covered in leather.
It’s believed that there will soon be several other derivatives of the 2013 Dodge Dart. For the Chinese market, it will be available as the Fiat Viaggio and will receive a mild restyling. Before 2012 ends, Dodge will offer a special Dart Aero model that could attain a 41mph fuel economy rating on the highway. The Jeep Compass and Patriot are also produced at the Dart’s factory in Belvidere.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart production starts at Belvidere plant
While the 2013 Dodge Dart compact is competitively priced, automotive analysts think that a lot of its success would depend on how reliable it is. The Dart is the first compact sedan from the Chrysler Group since it discontinued production of the Neon in 2005. It has a price range of $16,790 to $23,290 (which includes a delivery charge of $795.
It is offered in five trim levels: SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited and R/T. This model has been priced and styled to appeal to Generation Y consumers, or those who are between 19 and 31 years old. The Dart arrives this June at showrooms. Rebecca Lindland, senior analyst with research firm IHS Automotive in suburban Detroit, considers the Dart to be a crucial model for Chrysler in the compact car market.
He said that its pricing is comparable to that of its key rivals like the Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Chevy Cruze, Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra. She said that to succeed, the Dart has to impress the market with its price, utility, fuel economy, and reliability.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart’s success would depend on how reliable it is
Say goodbye to unruly dangling power cords in your vehicles when you buy the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. It is the first vehicle to offer in-vehicle wireless charging. If you recall, Chrysler was also the first to get rid of heavy, bulky owner manuals from its vehicles. The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart will arrive in dealerships in the second quarter of 2012.
Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, said that Mopar makes it a point to find every chance it could get to simplify the lives of its customers. He said that the industry-first in-vehicle wireless charging system is “perfect” for connected customers who are always on the go.
At just below the center stack and in front of the center console, Mopar placed a seamlessly integrated power bin for easy access. It measures 8.27 inches by 9.5 inches by 3.25 inches. When customers place their battery-powered device on this bin, it activates a built-in charging grid. Charging begins when the vehicle is started. It comes with a phone case designed for various smartphones.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart will be the first car to offer in-vehicle wireless charging
Excitement is building up at Dodge and SRT Motorsports as they announced that the 2013 Dodge Dart rally car will compete at the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) Series. The 2013 Dodge Dart rally car will be driven by Travis Pastrana, four-time Rally America Champion and 17-time X Games Gold Medalist.
According to the president and chief executive of Dodge Brand, Reid Bigland, the team’s participation in the GRC Series was the next chapter in the racing heritage of the company. Pastrana is not your ordinary rally driver as he holds four Rally America championship wins on his trophy case. Racing is a passion for him too as he also holds multiple supercross and motorcross championships.
He currently owns Nitro Circus, which boasts of several entertainment packages including a television show, live tours and 3D feature film project. Pastrana is also one of the most popular athletes in the world, having more than three-and-a-half million Facebook followers and is famous for being searched six million times in Google in 2010. Because of these, the president and chief executive of Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC, Ralph Gilles thinks of Pastrana as a natural fit for driving the Dodge Dart in the GRC.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart rally car to enter 2012 Global RallyCross Championship
Chrysler Group will boost production of the 2013 Dodge Dart quickly at a plant in Belvidere, Ill., generating at least 1,800 additional jobs even before the first model has been built, the automaker has revealed. In a ceremony with local and state officials at the facility, Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne disclosed that the vehicle manufacturer will shell out an additional $100 million in the factory's body shop, bringing recent investments there to a total of $700 million.
Marchionne commented that it was "not by chance" that they chose Belvidere to make the investment and assemble the new Dodge Dart. He further stated that their decision is "evidence of the faith" that they have in the plant employees' level of commitment and passion to provide great products for customers. He also told the employees that they have been "essential" in the company's ability to "author a remarkable story of recovery."
Currently, Chrysler has 2,500 employees in its production line at the Illinois facility and a nearby stamping factory. Around 500 of the new workers are required for the production of Dart, while the rest are needed for the plant to meet increased demand for two other automobiles, the company disclosed.Read the entire article Chrysler to ramp up production of 2013 Dodge Dart at Belvidere facility
Ralph Gilles and his SRT team are already planning improvements to the Dart and preparing its SRT4 performance version even as the Dart is highly praised. The base Dart shares many similarities with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform so it’s expected that the Dart SRT4 will use an upgraded version of the Giulietta Cloverleaf's dual-clutch, six-speed transmission.
It’s likely that it won’t have Cloverleaf's 1.7-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder since it only delivers 230 hp. The Dart SRT4 has to be built impressively because Ford's Focus ST will start to be seen on the roads by summer.
The Focus ST is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that has an output of least 247 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. What’s sure is that the SRT4 would offer at least the same output as the last-generation Caliber SRT4, which was powered by a turbo 2.4-liter that delivers 285 hp and 265 lb-ft. It’s expected that the all-aluminum, direct-injection, 300-hp four-cylinder engine that would be used in the much-anticipated Alfa Romeo 4C is an ideal but costly fit.Read the entire article Rumor: Dodge Dart SRT4 in the works
Mopar will offer at least 150 accessories for the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. This is the highest number of accessories that it has ever offered in the compact vehicle segment. Fresh from its global production launch at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, Mopar immediately provided the 2013 Dodge Dart even more sporting pretensions inside and out.
The Alfa Romeo-based Dodge Dart showcases class-exclusive and class-leading features in various areas such as aerodynamics, safety and technology. With Mopar's stage kits, these features are further enhanced. Furthermore, the all-new Dodge Dart already provides sporty driving dynamics, and Mopar further reinforced the vehicle's fun-to-drive nature by adding even more distinction.
For the Stage 1 appearance package, the exterior features several matte-black trim pieces such as lower chin spoiler, rear spoiler, rear-diffuser panel and side sills. Other exterior modifications include 18-inch, 10-spoke forged alloy titanium-colored wheels and a lightweight carbon-fiber hood with large air scoop. Black and red is brought into the interiors, which has been improved beyond the 14 options on interior colors and trims available in the 2013 Dodge Dart.Read the entire article 2013 Dodge Dart GTS 210 Tribute unveiled ahead of 2012 Chicago Auto Show
