Last Dodge Demon and Viper will be auctioned off on June 20

If you are a huge fan of the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon but never had the chance to get your hands on any, there is going to be one last chance for you to get your hands on not one but both of them. This is because in June, Dodge will release the final examples of the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger Demon at the Barrett Jackson auction in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The reason why I said that you could get your hands on both is because of the fact that both models will be auctioned as a pair, so you are out of luck if you could only afford one. When combined, the Viper and the Demon will have an output of $1,485 horsepower. In fact, Dodge calls the auction “The Ultimate Last Chance”, so get your check books out.

Head of Passenger Car Brands, Dodge/SRT, Chrysler, and Fiat - FCA North America, Steve Beahm, even stated that it is close to impossible for an avid collector to have both the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger Demon in his garage because these models are just so difficult to get your hands on, considering that they sell out even before the automaker begins production of these.

Dodge Viper ACR takes on the Nurburgring with a lap time of 7:01.3 [w/video]

A couple of months ago, we wrote about the group of Viper ACR enthusiasts from America who raised enough money to fly the vehicle out to Germany so it could lap the Green Hell. Initially, their goal was to hit a sub-seven-minute goal, but they were a little shy of this by finishing the Nurburgring in 7:01.3 last week. They still got to break the existing record of 7:03.45, making the ACR the fastest street legal Dodge Viper ever that hit the Nurburgring.

Road & Track was in Germany that time to witness this record breaking act by the Viper ACR, and they also witnessed the car go through some serious hiccups. The first incident was from a seized differential that occurred earlier in the week, which was then followed by a high-speed tire failure after the second lap, which led to a serious crash that happened right after the Viper ACR finished the lap. Luckily, both drivers came out of the car with no injuries. If you would like to see the record-setting lap, you could always check out the video online.

So far, the Viper ACR is the fifth fastest car that has gone around the Nurburgring, at 7:01.3, being just behind the Lamborghini Aventador SV with a 6:59.73 lap time in 2015. But it actually did pretty well compared to the Nissan GT-R Nismo that has a lap time of 7:08.68, as well as the new Mercedes-AMG GT R that has a 7:10.92 time. Furthermore, it did pretty well compared to the previous-generation model that had a record time of 7:12.13 back in 2011.

Gen-5 Dodge Viper sets new world record with 9.28 seconds for 1/4 mile run [w/video]

On July 21, 2017, this twin-turbo manual Gen 5 SRT Viper set a new world record by running a fourth of a mile in just 9.28 seconds.

But before this, it was also the Gen 5 Viper that held the record for the fastest 6-speed manual transmission in just 9.35 seconds at 157 miles per hour (252 kilometers per hour). When it went through the Carolina Dragway, this race focused model was able to cover the distance in just three passes, and it took only 2.28 seconds at 162 miles per hour (260 kilometers per hour).

Big thanks to the tuner for the twin-turbo forged V10 setup that made it possible to beat the record. This, along with the OEM wheels with Nitto 19” drag radials of course. This setup enabled the car to carry out 1,061 RWHP and 1,000 RWTQ.

Last Dodge Viper rolled off assembly line in Detroit, production plant to be closed next

August 17, 2017 is a sad day for the Dodge Viper, its fans, enthusiasts and its admirers. It is the day when the last Dodge Viper rolled off the assembly line, thereby effectively ending the tumultuous run of the brand’s beloved serpent.

This bittersweet event was witnessed by no other than Ralph Gilles, FCA’s head of design. Gilles has played a big role in bringing the Viper back to life in 2012 when he was the president and chief executive of SRT. In his Instagram account, Gilles posted a number of images showing him posing alongside two examples of the fifth generation of the Dodge Viper at FCA's Connor Assembly Plant, which has been the home of the two-seat sports car since 1995.

One of these images feature a Viper wrapped in red finish, which Gilles disclosed in the comments section of his Instagram post as the “ultimate last one.” As the very last example of the Viper, this unit is considered as something special. This could be the reason that Dodge wouldn’t deliver this example of the Viper to any customer, and would instead take it as a keepsake as part of its heritage collection. Another Viper was shown to be wrapped in yellow and black finishes, and it would be delivered to one of Gilles’ friends.

The Nurburgring is the one track that many automakers want to hold a record of, because only the best of the best do. This time, a group of extraordinary passionate people are trying their best to do everything that they can to make the Viper reclaim its record as the fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring. This is because the Conner Assembly plant in Detroit will official close down in August, and these guys just want to give it the best send off. In a few months, the SRT Viper, which was once Dodge’s front-line war horse for 25 years, will say goodbye.

The company itself does not have plans of sending the Viper to the Nurburgring after doing it twice already, which is why you could tell how passionate the individuals are. In fact, they started a group on Facebook called “The Viper Ring Record Run Powered by Kumho and co-sponsored by Prefix”. They’re raising funds so they could send not one, but two Viper ACRs, from the United States to Germany. In order to do this, they need about $150,000 to $200,000 aside from the sponsorships they have got. To do this, they group started a GoFundMe account earlier this January, and as of now, they have already earned $177,642, which means that the attempt to break records at the Green Hell is a go.

To keep their fans and backers informed, they post updates. And last Sunday, 23rd July, they posted an update early in the morning about a solo time slot on The Ring - except that it was raining, but they have a plan B.

With the Dodge Viper set to be officially discontinued by this year, tributes are being made left and right. One of those in the top of such tributes would have to be that of Penzoil.

Titled as “The Last Viper,” the whole video is just a little under 3 minutes. It starts with the Viper inside a warehouse and an unnamed figure on the roof trying to recover the vehicle. Once he gets out of the warehouse, what follows next is a treat for any Viper enthusiast. Viewers are shown the limits of what this model can do. Making this possible is Penzoil getting stunt driver Rhys Millen to get behind the wheel of the yellow Viper ACR. The entire video was shot on location in Miami giving it some hints of Miami Vice and maybe a bit of Fast and the Furious vibe.

For some fans though, while the short film is indeed exciting, there are some moments that look awkward. At a certain period in the video for example, it is revealed that the license plate of this viper is V8 EATR. While it is possible that this V10 Viper could give some of the V8 versions a run for their money, the tribute was aired in conjunction with the reveal of the V8 Challenger Demon. The problem is that this latest model is considered to be the most powerful production version of the V8. In fact, it can likely beat the V8 “eater.”

VLF Automotive is an American luxury sports car company, established in 2012 when it was originally VL Automotive (before the Fisker came in the picture). It is a joint partnership between former General Motors boss Bob Lutz, car designer Henrik Fisker of Fisker Karma, and entrepreneur Gilbert Villarreal. “VLF” came from the initials of each founder.

Over a year ago, the company took the cover off its Force 1 Coupe in Detroit, Michigan. And now, they are getting ready for the roadster version to debut at the Auto Shanghai 2017 in China next week. The roadster was spotted while in transit, so images of the car have surfaced online even before its official launch.

To keep the Force 1 Roadster light in weight, the body panels were built with carbon fiber. In fact, it looks just as sporty and masculine as the coupe. Instead, this was built with a soft top instead of a fixed carbon roof, unlike its counterpart. However, this model weighs a little more than the coupe that is at 1,538 kilograms (3,395 pounds), because of the increased roof complexity. Brembo brakes and Pirelli tires are included too.

A group of Dodge Viper fans and enthusiasts wants the high-performance sports car to set a new lap record at the famed Nurburgring circuit in Germany. Since a large amount of money is needed to achieve this feat, they have initiated a crowd-funding campaign.

It has been a while since the Dodge Viper ACR broke the lap record at the Nurburgring circuit. The previous generation of the Dodge Viper ACR was fast enough to complete a lap at the Nurburgring in just 7 minutes and 12.13 seconds in September 2011. It was then the fastest street-legal production vehicle at the Nurburgring. Since then, the Dodge Viper ACR’s record has been surpassed by only a few other production vehicles, namely the Porsche 918 Spyder (2013), Lamborghini Aventador SV (2015), Nissan GT-R Nismo (2015) and the Mercedes-AMG GT R (2016). The Porsche 918 Spyder currently holds the Nurburgring lap record with a time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

While there is a considerable gap in the lap times of the previous Dodge Viper ACR and the Porsche 918 Spyder at the Nurburgring, the present generation of the Dodge Viper – specified with ACR Extreme aero packages – could pose a real threat to the current record. The current Dodge Viper ACR Extreme is powered by an 8.4-liter V-10 engine that delivers 645 hp of max output and 600 lb.-ft. of peak torque. This pales in comparison to the total amount of power the hybrid powertrain of the Porsche 918 Spyder could provide: up to 875 hp of output and up to 940 lb.-ft. of torque.

The car brand has stopped taking orders only a couple of months ago since they needed time to determine the exact number of units that they have to build. Apparently, they ran short of headlamps and had no idea then if they can still accommodate all the orders. In fact, it was earlier reported that they also ran out of “aero wings” around September and that also prompted them to postpone further bookings for the ACR variant.

There are no details regarding the total number of Vipers to be assembled. But a big chunk of the final batch was already bought by a dealership based in North Carolina. Gerry Wood Dodge from Salisbury has come up with its own 2017 limited edition models. The ACR as we know is the most popular of the entire Viper’s line-up. No doubt, Gerry Wood Dodge’s special edition ACRs was allegedly sold out in less than an hour.

In a recent interview with the Detroit News, Fiat Chrysler’s head for passenger car brands Tim Kuniskis described how the “demand for ACR” was unexpected. Since they knew more or less how many they could build, he thinks that they are almost ready to take new orders.

Soon, Fiat Chrysler’s Dodge brand will be ending the production of the Dodge Viper. So practically, the 2017 Dodge Viper will be the last Viper up for grabs.

Gerry Wood Dodge, a dealership in Salisbury, North Carolina, is taking advantage of the situation to ensure that those interested in acquiring these American supercars have their own. But, they better hurry, as Gerry Wood Dodge ordered only 135 to 140 units of the remaining 2017 Dodge Viper. So, if you want one, call or visit this dealership as soon as you can.

Boasting of being purely American-made, the 2017 Dodge Viper hand-built supercar is powered by a high-output naturally aspirated engine mated to a manual transmission.

Star Wars fans in Los Angeles received a treat from Dec. 11 to Dec. 14 as a 707hp Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that were styled to look like the First Order Stormtrooper patrolled the streets.

A black Dodge Viper ACR that took inspiration from Kylo Ren also joined this troop. The locations of the vehicles were tracked in real time on Twitter with the hashtags #Dodge and #TheForceAwakens. If you ask us, this was a brilliant way to promote the movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on social media.

This move was made possible with the partnership between FCA US and Disney as well as Lucasfilm as they co-promoted this movie, which is set to open on Dec. 18. Fans got the chance to have their photos and videos taken with these Star Wars-themed vehicles.

Ordering has started for the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer). This is a track variant of the two-seat sports coupe that features a much stiffer chassis and a big carbon-fiber rear wing as well as additional aerodynamic features to boost downforce. The last time that Dodge offered a Viper ACR was in 2010. The Viper was redesigned in 2012.

Like other Vipers, the street-legal race car is equipped with a 645-hp, 8.4-liter V-10 engine and six-speed manual transmission. However, its on-track performance is better due to revisions made to the chassis and suspension. It is built by hand at the assembly plant of Fiat Chrysler in Detroit. The buyer can have a unique car since it can be bought in a one-of-one configuration that other customers won’t be able to duplicate.

Tim Kuniskis, head of the Dodge brand and its SRT performance group, described this Viper track car as the fastest street-legal car that the company has ever made. He also referred to this car as the “halo” of its track segment. The ACR has a giant carbon-fiber rear wing and a one-of-a-kind hood to improve air flow and four dive planes.

Dodge will be offering “one-of-one” customized Vipers to customers starting February 2015. Customers could order these custom Vipers through dealers using a special concierge service that allows them to directly track their car while it is being ordered, built and shipped.

The custom Viper comes with personalized name tag embossed into the instrument panel and could be availed in a new GTC trim level in over 25 million distinct build combinations.

The free custom service prevents customers from ordering a GTC car with the same features and specs, according to Dodge brand chief Tim Kuniskis. The hand-built Viper can be availed using any of the 8,000 exterior colors, 24,000 hand-painted custom stripes, 10 wheel options, 16 interior trims and six aerodynamic packages.

Chrysler will debut at the 2014 SEMA Show the Dodge Viper ACR Concept, a track-focused version of the Viper that previews a new model in its lineup. The new vehicle looks ready to hit the track and comes with carbon fiber dive planes on the front fascia, hood heat extractors as well as sating black lightweight 19-inch front and rear wheels.

Behind the wheels there are 15.4 inch Carbon Ceramic two-piece rotors fitted with Brembo six-piston calibers. Thanks to carbon fiber brake duct openings in the front fascia, the brakes are kept at an optimal temperature level.

At the rear, we find a big rear wing with accented stanchion and end cap. Just like the previous model, the new Viper ACR Concept gets the same ACR-style white paint highlighted by a gloss black center stripe and Adrenaline Red stripe that flows from tip to tail.

Chrysler’s Conner Avenue plant in Detroit will be alive again in mid-November then the company will restart the production of its Dodge Viper. Apparently, the move to offer a $15,000 price cut was a good one for Chrysler as Dodge Viper sales increased in September to 108 vehicles, up from just 45 in September 2013.

Still, dealers have lots of vehicles in their inventories and despite 200 orders for 2015 Vipers, the manufacturer will not start building them until unsold inventories are reduced. According to Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis, the production will start when they get much closer to the proper inventory levels.

When the production will start, Dodge will build only the GT and base SRT trim levels, while the TA and GTS trims will be produced when the unsold inventories of 2013 and 2014 models will be reduced.

Chrysler officially announced that it will slash by $15,000 the price of the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT. As a result, the 2015 Viper SRT will start at $84,995 excluding destination charge and the gas guzzler tax. In addition, the existing Gen 5 Viper owners will receive a $15,000 worth certificate that can be used to purchase a new Viper.

What’s more interesting is that the $15,000 certificate is in addition to the $15,000, which means that if you are a Gen 5 Viper owner you will actually get a $30k price cut. In order to revive Viper sales, more than 2,300 dealers will be able to sell the sports car.

Moreover, the 2015 Dodge Viper GT will cost $94,995 and for this amount of money you will get a driver-selectable suspension system featuring Bilstein DampTronic Select shock absorbers, a five-mode electronic stability control system as well as a unique interior with standard Alcantara and Nappa leather seats available in black, Demonic Red or Sepia.

Dodge introduced the redesigned Viper back in 2012 at the New York Auto Show but sales of the new vehicle failed to impress. In fact, Chrysler idled Viper production for several weeks this summer due to slow sales. Still, it appears that this situation will change as Dodge has a plan to boost Viper sales.

The plan is simple: the manufacturer will knock $15,000 from the sticker price in an attempt to get rid of the 600 unsold Vipers found on dealer lots. Moreover, Dodge will offer $15,000 coupons to people who recently acquired a Viper in order to give them the possibility to trade in their 2013MY or 2014MY Viper on another one or to buy an additional Viper.

Currently, the 2014 Dodge Viper SRT has a starting price of $102,485, which means that the new sticker price will be around $87,000, including shipping excluding the gas guzzler tax. This means that the price will be almost identical to the 1992 model year, adjusted for inflation of course.

For the 2015MY, SRT Viper becomes again a Dodge, which means that this time we will call it the Dodge Viper SRT. But this is not all, as the 2015MY also brings the new GT model featuring a driver-selectable suspension system and more luxurious appointments that were only available on the GTS model.

According to the official press release, the 2015 Dodge Viper GT comes with a five-mode electronic stability control system, unique interior offered as standard ALcantara and Nappa leather seats available in black, Demonic Red or Sepia.

As expected, the Viper GT model will be slotted and priced between the Viper and Viper GTS models. Also new for 2015MY is the Viper TA 2.0 Special Edition, an evolution of the 2014 Viper TA Model.

Dodge Viper is not quite a best-seller and everyone knows this. In fact, Chrysler idled production of the Viper for several times due to slow sales. In addition, Dodge introduced Hellcat versions of the Challenger and Charger, which are powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that delivers 707 hp and 650 lb-ft (881) Nm of torque.

The Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat models are more powerful than the Dodge Viper, but it appears that this is about to change as Chrysler’s engineers are working on a supercharged version of the 8.4-liter V10 engine hat powers the Viper.

We expect the supercharged V10 engine to deliver over 707 hp, in fact we hope to deliver around 800 hp as it needs to retain its title as the halo model. We don’t know if the new engine can boost sales but the beast really needs some more hp under its hood.
