As Maserati celebrates 100 years of its automotive existence, it is unveiling a new anniversary model derived from its legendary Maserati MC12 that made a name in the racing world. This new model is a piece of automotive modification work realized by edo competition Motorsport GmbH, a technical development partner for Maserati.
The choice of transforming the Maserati MC12 racing icon into a road-going anniversary model does not come as a surprise. The Maserati MC12 is an awesome racing car by itself, having earned around 19 wins between 2005 and 2010. In addition, the Maserati MC12 also grabbed the FIA GT1 world championship in 2005. Converting a Maserati MC12 into a road-going unit was a feat that edo achieved in 2005, which could be a reason why Maserati turned to the motor sports company for the project. The result of this project – led by project manager Maurizio Leschiutta -- is the one-off edo MC12 VC.
As a starter, the edo MC12 VC was derived from a 2004 Maserati MC12 with a carbon fiber monocoque-style body. The project team made sure that the modifications to the specs of the MC12 Corsa are as slight as possible to deliver a very sporty yet road-going performance. Edo specially tuned the chassis MC12 to allow it to perform both on the streets and the race course while installing a lifting system for the front. In addition, edo installed its own Sport exhaust system to make the edo MC12 VC conform to the applicable noise emission limits, employing a flap system and radio control in the prices. There is a new rebel in Maserati’s family of vehicles and it looks ready to go up against all odds. Maserati is introducing the new Ghibli Ribelle, a new limited edition model that underscores the importance of the Ghibli within the carmaker’s range. Maserati will launch the new Ghibli Ribelle to the market starting October 2018.
Maserati’s latest limited edition is essentially the Ghibli featuring a darker look courtesy of a number of exterior and interior tweaks. Its name “Ribelle” is an Italian word that actually means “rebel,” signifying the rebellious looks of this new limited edition. To highlight this, the Ghibli Ribelle is wrapped in a dark metallic tone called “Nero Ribelle,” which means black rebel. Nero Ribelle is indeed a fitting color for such a name.
This rebellious yet sophisticated dark appearance of the Maserati Ghibli Ribelle is further highlighted by elegantly exclusive glossy black Proteo alloy wheels. Measuring 19 inches in diameter, these alloy wheels feature contrasting red laser etched details. Maserati recently unveiled the most powerful version of the Levante SUV to the public. The Levante Trofeo’s debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show was celebrated for its massive V8 engine, which they claim has the highest output per liter of any Maserati powerplant ever made.
The automaker refers to a 3.8 liter biturbo motor that generates 590 horsepower (440 kilowatts) at 6,250 rpm and 538 pound feet (730 Newton metres) of peak torque between 2,250 and 5,000 rpm. This is equivalent to 156 horsepower / 116 kilowatts per liter. The engine, which was built by Ferrari in Maranello, makes sure that the Italian SUV can accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in only 3.9 seconds. It can then carry on with a top speed of over 186 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour).
It is not just the new engine that this high performance SUV can boast about. It also gets a specially tuned sports suspension that is said to provide driving experience with no compromise in terms of comfort. While Maserati has no new car to showcase at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, it does have the Nerissimo package for three of its cars, namely the Ghibli, Quattroporte, and the Levante SUV. But the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio are not getting the all-black treatment. It was said that the new styling kit is actually a follow up to the Ghibli Nerissimo Edition that we saw earlier this year at the New York Auto Show.
If you are one of those people who are into a Maserati with rear doors, a nice way to give it some flavour would be with the use of this Nerissimo styling package. The package uses a Nero paint combined with black chrome accents for the front grille’s trident logo, together with the grille’s upper bezel trim and at the back on the trunk lid. To make it look really stealthy, the automaker will black out the logo, model, vehicle name, and engine. But that is not all, as it will also black out the exhaust tips, window surrounds, and the vertical bars of the grille. Overall, it looks chic and sinister, and that is exactly what you would want your Italian sport sedan or SUV to look.
If you are not into the blacked out look of the vehicle, you might want to go for the Ghibli or the flagship Quattroporte instead. Maserati’s current focus is on developing a new model that is far from what people have been anticipating - the new GranTurismo and the production version of the Alfieri.

Italian luxury carmaker Maserati is updating its Ghibli four-door premium sedan, giving it a new name, a new face and some new technologies. However, Maserati won't be unveiling this update – the new Maserati Ghibli GranLusso – anywhere in Europe. That’s because the company is set to unveil the face-lifted and re-christened luxury four-door in China, in particular at the 2017 Chengdu Auto Show.
Already four years old, the Maserati Ghibli was a success. However, it didn’t become as successful as the Italian carmaker had initially expected. In fact, against luxury sedan rivals like the Mercedes E-Class and the BMW 5-Series, the Ghibli is losing face. However, that doesn’t mean that the Ghibli is ugly. It is beautiful and elegant in its own right; but it just failed to tickle the pockets of majority of luxury customers in Europe. This could be the reason why Maserati is choosing to unveil the 2018 iteration of the Ghibli in another market where luxury is still in a thing in high demand -- China.
For the 2018 model year, Maserati is giving the Ghibli a new trim – the GranLusso. This suffix to the Ghibli moniker suggests that this version of the luxury sedan could be the most luxurious to date. Today, Chinese investors are probably the biggest market of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, but the company wants to try out some options that would help boost their overall valuation. And one thing they are considering is to spin off both Maserati and Alfa Romeo like what they did with Ferrari last year. Doing so leaves them with no luxury brands.
So what they plan to do instead is to focus on volume or mass market cars within its portfolio, and these include models from Jeep, Dodge, and Ram. Already, this looks like it will attract the Chinese market, as Great Wall Motor Co. has already showed interest. Furthermore, none of these proposed deals are certain just yet. FCA thinks that by doing this, they will be more attractive to an outside buyer.

Aston Martin is indeed taking powertrain technology (including engines, transmissions and electrification projects) very seriously as the British carmaker has tapped a man very well suited to the job of leading the development of these systems. Aston Martin has named Joerg Ross to one of its top positions, as Powertrain Chief Engineer.
Ross’ new role at Aston Martin makes him the man in charge of and responsible for the development of the carmaker engines, transmissions and electrification. Boasting more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, Ross’ previous post was at Maserati, where he served as the Italian carmaker’s chief of advanced powertrain development. He also had held senior management roles at German engineering IAV, Scuderia Ferrari F1 and Ford.
Born in Remscheid, Germany, Ross has a degree and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He is fluent in a number of languages like German, English, and Italian. His appointment at Aston Martin follows the selection of Maximilian Szwaj, former chief of chassis and body engineering at Ferrari, as Chief Technical Officer and Vice President in December. The 2018 Maserati GranTurismo has gotten a new upgrade, and we first witnessed it at the New York Stock Exchange on June 27 as the automaker’s CEO Reid Bigland arrived to ring the closing bell. The slight upgrade that was given to the GT is the company’s way of celebrating a full decade on sale.
Looking refreshed, the car definitely came from a weekend of relaxation at the Caribbean, and not from the plastic surgeon. It came out with a new front fascia featuring the hexagonal grille, instead of the oval-shaped one from the standard model. This inspiration came from the Maserati Alfieri concept. Though it does not fit the GranTurismo that well, this benefits the car in that aerodynamic drag will be reduced from 0.33 to 0.32. More conventional ducts have replaced the standard ones, which no longer sweep underneath the splitter. Changes have also been made around the rear of the car, with a new bumper and redesigned exhaust outlets.
The GranTurismo also gets an upgrade inside the cabin technology- and design- wise. Looks like the Maserati Alfieri will be left in the dust, as another performance car will be unveiled by the Italian luxury vehicle automaker. The all-electric Maserati Alfieri concept was unveiled in 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show. The production version will have 3 V6 engine variants - the 410 hp (306 kW), a 450 bhp (336 kW) and 520 bhp (388kW). The 450 hp and 520 options will only be offered as an all-wheel drive system. A 2016 release was scheduled, but to the public's dismay, the release has been delayed to give way to the launch of the Maserati Levante. Sigh.
