We all want to know how safe our vehicles are on the road. Of course, carmakers do brag about the safety levels of their offerings, but it’s really up to unbiased assessment agencies to tell us the real deal. In Europe, the safety levels of new cars are tested by European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). In fact, Euro NCAP just completed its latest round of safety tests, and the results were quite mixed.
For the latest round of testing, six vehicles underwent Euro NCAP’s stringent process: Audi Q5, Citroen C3, Fiat 500, Ford Ka+, Land Rover Discovery and Toyota C-HR. The results of the tests should make the people at Audi, Land Rover and Toyota leap for joy while leave those at Fiat and Ford scratching their heads. Euro NCAP’s overall safety rating is based on assessment in four important areas: Adult protection; Child protection; Pedestrian protection; and Safety Assist technologies. Vehicles are rated overall from one to five stars. The more stars a vehicle has, the safer it is.
According to Euro-NCAP, both the new Audi Q5 luxury SUV and Toyota C-HR subcompact crossover were able to earn five-star ratings from the assessment program, thanks to their good all-round performance. A five-star rating means these vehicles offer overall good performance in crash protection and are well-equipped with robust crash avoidance technology. In particular, the Toyota C-HR scored 95 percent for Adult protection; 77 percent for Child protection; 76 percent for Pedestrian protection; and 78 percent for Safety Assist technologies. The new Audi Q5, meanwhile, earned 93 percent for Adult protection; 86 percent for Child protection; 73 percent for Pedestrian protection; and 58 percent for Safety Assist technologies.Read the entire article 2017 Euro NCAP crash tests: Toyota C-HR, Audi Q5 and Land Rover Discovery SUVs earn five stars
Last year was probably one of the busiest years for the European New Car Assessment Programme, with a total of around 70 cars tested. But amongst that huge pack of vehicles, one model managed to really stand out, and this was the second-generation Volvo XC60. After going through all those cars, the European NCAP made a decision that this is the safest car overall.
Ever since, Volvo has had a good reputation when it comes to car safety, and that is why we are not surprised that the new XC60 got the highest score during the tests. It scored 98% for the Adult Occupant category, and for Safety Assist, it got 95%, which still is pretty impressive as most cars do not ever get a score that high.
Malin Ekholm, Vice President of Volvo Cars Safety Center, promised that no one should ever get seriously injured or killed ever riding a Volvo car by the beginning of next decade. And based on the results we just saw, it seems like the automaker is right on track with fulfilling this promise.Read the entire article 2018 Volvo XC60 gets the Euro NCAP’s best ratings for 2017
The Land Rover Discovery’s rear is definitely not a calming sight for people with obsessive compulsive disorder. Why you ask? Because of the offset number plate design that is positioned more on the left, as opposed to being centered. If you have this car and been bothered by its design, Startech has found the perfect solution for you.
Startech offers a new tailgate insert, also known as item number LR5-410-00, that will bring the plate back to where it should really be, and that is the center of the rear. It’s quite awesome for Startech to think of this. Now, the only issue you will have is seeing other people’s Land Rovers. But at least you got yours covered.
If you have already decided on getting Startech’s add-on referred to as the “Discovery of Symmetry”, you must be willing to shell out 809 euros (approximately $954). Do you think it is worth paying that much just to change the positioning of the number plate by a few inches? The price is a bit steep; owners might decide instead to get additional tech instead of stressing about the uncentered plate. Or perhaps even spend a few extra hundreds for a split spoke 22 inch wheels that cost 3,700 pounds.Read the entire article Startech has a solution to that off-center rear plate on the Land Rover Discovery
Slightly more than a year after launching the fifth generation of the Land Rover Discovery, the seven-seat passenger sports utility vehicle is getting a bevy of updates that should enhance its overall appeal. For the 2018 model year, the Land Rover Discovery will be available in six time levels and in more optional elements.
The powertrain update for the 2018 Land Rover Discovery saw the addition of the 3.0-liter Td6 diesel engine as one of the available mills for the Discovery SE trim. This means that the 2018 Discovery is now offering a diesel engine in all three available trims – SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. This 3.0-liter diesel engine is tuned to deliver up to 254 hp of output and up to 443 lb.-ft. of torque, with power sent to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new diesel SE trim means that 2018 Land Rover Discovery is now available in six variants, compared to just five in the 2017 iteration. These trim variants include the gas SE, diesel SE, gas HSE, diesel HSE, gas HSE luxury and diesel HSE luxury. Gasoline-powered variants of the 2018 Land Rover Discovery will continue to be served by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that could deliver up to 340 hp (253 kW) of output and up to 332 lb.-ft. (450 Nm) of torque.Read the entire article 2018 Land Rover Discovery has a diesel SE trim, comes with many equipment updates
Remember the Range Rover Holland & Holland that comes with a set of guns in the back just like what you see in movies? This time, Land Rover is here to surprise us again with something more functional -- a built-in kitchen. No other than famous chef Jamie Oliver owns this unit. The mobile kitchen was introduced earlier this month and has already been used for two promotional videos. It was JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division that made this possible, and it has now given the already practical car even more features. In fact, it is now the perfect family car.
Unlike any other Land Rover Discovery out there, this particular one has functions you would have never thought of - from the front grille that acts like a pasta cutter, the butter churning front wheels, to the ice cream maker in the rear wheels. Other features include a spice rack and herb garden at the rear pillars, and of course, a full-on kitchen in the back complete will utensils and ingredients to cook a steak, anytime, anywhere you want. In the video, Jamie Oliver demonstrates the functionality of his personalized Discovery.
All the kitchen equipment are not just limited on the outside, passengers can make themselves sandwiches while in the vehicle with the functional toaster in the center console, and a compartment for three types of jam. There are also USB ports where one could attach a portable vacuum if things get a little messy.Read the entire article Jamie Oliver’s tricked-out Land Rover Discovery is a kitchen-on-wheels
The fifth generation of the Land Rover Discovery has been making waves since it was launched. Calling the Land Rover Discovery sporty in terms of design, however, might be farfetched. That is, unless customers could avail of a range of styling options from Startech for the Land Rover Discovery.
The Land Rover Discovery is designed not just to tackle the paved roads, but also to challenge the off-road terrain. This is the reason why the Land Rover Discovery is a sports utility vehicle that comes with a rugged and dominant look. But of course, it couldn’t be helped that most customers of the Land Rover Discovery spend most of their time on the road, and they may want to bestow their beloved SUV with a sporty look. This is something that Startech, a company that is part of the Brabus Group, could offer. In fact, Startech is bound to unveil its exclusive accessories range for the Land Rover Discovery at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show this month.
Startech will be offering an array of exclusive accessories that could make the Land Rover Discovery look sportier. These include sporty yet elegant styling kit for the body, bespoke 22-inch and a high-quality interior design that could be personalized according to customers’ preferences.Read the entire article Startech makes 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5 look sportier
Following the introduction of the new generation Suzuki Swift in Europe for the 2017 model year, the hatchback from the Japanese company managed to score fairly in the latest round of safety tests conducted by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). In fact, a standard version of the 2017 Suzuki Swift earned a 3-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, while a variant equipped with the optional safety pack equipped version received a 4-star rating from the assessment program.
In the area of Adult Occupant protection, the 2017 Suzuki Swift scored 83 percent. According to Euro NCAP, the Swift’s passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test, offering good protection of the knees and femurs for the driver and passenger.
Meanwhile, the full-width rigid barrier test showed that the Swift offers marginal chest protection, although protection of critical body areas was considered by Euro NCAP as good or adequate. In case of rear-end collision, Euro NCAP noted that the front seats and head restraints offer good protection against whiplash injuries while the rear seats provide poor protection.Read the entire article Euro NCAP gives 3 stars to 2017 Suzuki Swift; optional package ups safety rating to 4 stars
BMW is well known for its premium aesthetic releases and a compelling performance in the upper mid category. And now it can add another achievement to its long list of successes: the German automotive company's latest BMW 5 Series (G30) bagged a 5-star rating safety in the Euro NCAP Crash Test, securing a solid 81% overall score.
The midsize sedan got an impressive 91 percent rating in adult occupant safety, while getting a splendid 85 percent in the child occupant safety. The premium car also bagged an 81 percent rating in the pedestrian safety evaluation. The impressive performance of BMW gained the respect of the Euro NCAP body, which remarked that the sixth-generation model series' performance in the pedestrian safety assessment was remarkable due to its classic active hood and "Person Warning" setup that has a city braking duty.
Euro NCAP also lauded the BMW 5 series' autonomous breaking tech and remarked that it was effective in guiding the driver dodge a crash with another vehicle or a pedestrian. With its superior results on vehicle occupant protection made for children and adults, standard safety features and pedestrian protection, the BMW 5 series automatically clinched the top spot within its segment. Furthermore, it is now considered as the 1st BMW vehicle series to obtain a perfect score on the Euro NCAP crash test rating for its impressive safety features.Read the entire article 2017 BMW 5-Series (G30) bags impressive 5 stars in the Euro NCAP Crash Test
Saving lives is a very serious matter and there are many obstacles in the way. One of the primary frustrations is not being able to properly locate people who need to be rescued – ahead of time or on the site. The main reason for this is the lack of a proper view of the situation. After all, this is search and rescue, in which saving lives hinges on whether those who need to be rescued are found.
This newest and unique version of the Land Rover Discovery should help counter that frustration. Dubbed as the Land Rover Discovery Project Hero, this bespoke vehicle features a drone fitted with a camera, thereby allowing rescuers to view the surroundings their naked eyes couldn’t reach. Especially created by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) for the Austrian Red Cross, the Land Rover Discovery Project Hero is now being showcased at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
As it is, the Land Rover Discovery is already a capable SUV that is powerful and versatile enough to move people and equipment both on the streets and off the road. It should prove to be a great mobile unit for Red Cross emergency response teams who may need to go off the road to conduct search and rescue operations during landslides, floods, earthquakes and avalanches. But as a Project Hero -- based on the 3.0-liter TD6 version of the new Land Rover Discovery – it does more.Read the entire article Drone-equipped Land Rover Discovery Project Hero is Austrian Red Cross’ search and rescue champion
The new Ford Mustang muscle car looks menacing and is surely quick and fast. But it seems its European version isn’t as safe as the pony car intended for the United States. This was recently revealed in the latest crash tests conducted by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
Euro NCAP has already commenced subjecting new vehicles to its 2017 test regime. Among the first vehicles to undergo crash tests were the Euro-spec Mustang as well as the new Volvo S90 and V90. While the Volvo S90 and V90 were both impressive, the Euro-spec 2017 Ford Mustang was a disappointment. According to Euro NCAP, both the Volvo S90 and V90 – with maximum five-star ratings -- were able to exceed the best overall test scores of any model subjected to crash tests in 2016. Euro NCAP attributed these ratings to the fact the Volvo S90 and V90 are fitted – as standard -- with autonomous emergency braking for cars and pedestrians and are offering lane and speed assistance. In addition, the S90 and V90 are now two of the best three Euro NCAP scores. Interestingly, the third one was also a Volvo.
As for the Euro-spec Ford Mustang – in its pre-facelift version – the pony car just managed to earn a dismal two-star rating. This was a far cry from the five-star rating that its American version received from the New Car Assessment Program of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration years ago. In addition, the American-spec 2017 Ford Mustang managed to earn satisfying ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which gave the pony car an "acceptable" rating in the small overlap front test, and a "good" rating in the moderate overlap front, side head restraints & seats, and roof strength tests.Read the entire article 2017 Ford Mustang gets only two stars in Euro NCAP’s crash tests
The Yuletide season has come and Land Rover seems very eager to show off the capabilities of its new Discovery Sport. Land Rover has been fond of pulling some publicity stunts to attract public attention to its products and their capabilities – a great work of marketing, nonetheless.
This time around, Land Rover created a small portable wilderness cabin – with a Christmas theme – that could be assembled and disassembled according to the whims of the customer. Once disassembled, this wilderness cabin could be accommodated perfectly into the cargo room of the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
This portable wilderness cabin, when properly installed, has a total area of 38 square feet (3.5 square meters) – which could be considered as small, but is still bigger than a large bed. This space should be enough to allow its users to relax and enjoy the view of the surroundings through its large windows. Of course, this portable cabin features Christmas decorations and a solar roof panel for charging phones. To power up the lights, users just need to plug them into the Discovery Sport’s 12-volt charger. Just like the ride height of the Discovery Sport, the cabin stands 212 mm off the ground.Read the entire article This Christmas-themed portable cabin could fit inside a Land Rover Discovery Sport

Land Rover is pleased to unveil its latest offering with the new Discovery. This groundbreaking family SUV is a combination of a versatile interior that seats seven with an exterior that sports a sweeping new design and made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
While the Discovery has been known to have the qualities of capability, desirability, and sophistication, this new model is expected to bring all of these to new heights. Commenting on the occasion, Land Rover Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern shared that when the company decided to have a new design for its Discovery family, it was the Discovery Vision Concept that set the tone.
With this new offering, he added, the company has managed to make a concept vehicle into a production reality considering that while it is indeed a versatile SUV, it comes with beautiful proportions and thus delivers a strong statement especially to its customers. The reason for this statement is that the new Discovery makes use of the important elements in the design that was founded by the Discovery Vision Concept when it was first previewed.Read the entire article 2016 Paris Motor Show: Land Rover debuts the new Discovery SUV
For as long as we can remember, Land Rover has always specialized in producing some of the top tier four-wheel-drive vehicles. Power is a given among its fleet of 4x4’s such as the Defender, the Freelander, the different generations of Range Rovers, and the Discovery. More than just producing luxury SUVs, Land Rover creates generations of 4x4 vehicles that are of top quality and that are true to its four-wheel-drive roots.
Now, to sell a particular product, one must perfect the art of marketing and public relations (or PR). To be able to build a rapport with your customers, one must be able to show off the different qualities of their product. As such, most car manufacturers show off by doing publicity stunts. Such has been the case for cars such as the Pagani Huayra BC that was tested in the freezing temperatures of the Arctic Circle and for burly diesel cars towing heavy objects. It does not just wow the audience but it really does test the capacity of these vehicles.
Land Rover being the proud 4x4 producer that it is, has also been very eager to show off its Discovery Sport. What looks like a harmless soccer mom vehicle is actually capable of towing along a hundred ton train. Don’t believe us? Well, you’ll have to see it yourself.Read the entire article Stock Land Rover Discovery Sport tows train 60 times its weight [w/video]
Safety is a top priority for Renault's new Mégane small family car. That is why it was given a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. After all, it is underpinned by Renault's Common Module Family (CMF) platform that also underpins the Kadjar crossover.
This CMF platform employs high elastic limit steel for the spars and side rails as well as cross members located between the engine compartment and the cabin. To illustrate the strength of this limit steel, just a square millimeter could bear a load of 120 kg.
Moreover, this platform allows the integration of operative occupant restraint systems like dual-generator front airbags. These airbags – which deploy according to the type of impact as well as according to the position of the vehicle occupant – have allowed the new Mégane to receive high scores in terms of both adult and child protection.Read the entire article 2016 Renault Megane receives 5-star rating from Euro NCAP for its safety features

Today, Land Rover revealed the fact that the new concept will also mark the debut of the see-through bonnet, which uses augmented reality technology in order to give the driver a proper view of the road.
This means that the front of the car is virtually invisible. How does this work? Using cameras that are located in the vehicle’s front grille that captures data in order to feed a Head-Up Display. In this way, the system creates a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain through the bonnet and engine bay.
