French multinational automobile manufacturer Renault has revealed its eDams team racer in preparation for the Formula E Paris ePrix along with the dashingly quick Zoe e-Sport Concept and a whole lot of production Zoe 40 units for retail purposes. Now we would like to wholly witness a race between the two high-powered electric vehicles.
Renault eDams team is a force to reckon with, as they’ve been leading the Formula E standings. The team celebrated the outstanding performance of its homestead by having a parade of their electric vehicles through the City of Light. Just last month, Porsche unveiled the new 935 during the “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. Featuring a body evoking the legendary Porsche 935/78, the 935 is definitely a race car you would want to drive in the track. Nonetheless, it isn't car you can just drive on the road from your garage to the track. After all, the 935 is a track-only race car and can’t be driven legally on the road.
The problem of getting a track-only race car from a garage to the circuit without circumventing any laws or local ordinances has already been solved a long time ago. To solve such a logistic issue, teams or carmakers have been using transporters, which can be large enough to accommodate more than one race car.
Such a situation is the main theme of one of the latest creative visual projects of Igor Shikitov, an automotive designer from Moscow, Russia. With 720 PS (710 hp or 530 kW) of max output, a carbon fiber chassis, aerodynamic body and stunning sports car design, the McLaren 720S is nothing short of amazing. By next year, customer teams can pilot a race-focused version of the Super Series as the British carmaker announces the eventual arrival of the new McLaren 720S GT3.
Being developed by McLaren Automotive’s new customer racing division, the 720S GT3 has just finished undergoing extensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Now, the development program is in the track-based phase, which includes a punishing test regime that should help validate the GT racer’s key performance data as well as long-distance durability. Track testing is now being conducting extensively across Europe, the United States and the Middle East.
Development prototypes are scheduled to cover over 18,500 miles to confirm the GT racer’s exceptional durability and efficiency. The program also includes various 24- and 36-hour tests. The first two development prototypes have already began the test program that will cover tracks on Europe and the US. It was back in October last year when Volkswagen began teasing us about the fully electric Pikes Peak racer, and last month, they showed us fully revealing images of the model. Now finally, VW has opened up and is ready to talk about the model’s technical specs.
This zero-emissions race car carries two electric motors, that gives out a combined output of 680 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and a considerable amount of torque at 650 Newton metres (480 pound feet). These numbers are already impressive but wait until we tell you that the vehicle weighs under 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds). If you do the math, it’s easy to conclude that that this car can go quite fast.
According to VW, in only 2.25 seconds, the I.D. R Pikes Peak can accelerate to 69 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in as short as 2.25 seconds. Having said that, it even is faster than a Formula 1 and Formula E racers. Earlier this week, the second generation FE design finally made its public debut. Aside from that, we also got an idea of how the final stage of FIA’s technical roadmap will increase battery and powertrain performance to go together with its striking new chassis.
The new car is said to have an extra output of 50 kilowatts (67 bhp) compared to the current model. This means that it will increase to 250 kilowatts (335 bhp) if the reports are accurate.

Today, what is considered to be the best track-only Ferrari model is probably the FXX K Evo that is based on the LaFerrari. Before that model came out, the most hardcore model was the FXX K. But no matter how cool you would be to own any of these two, both of them are not road legal.
It would be the fulfilment of every car enthusiast’s wish to see the FXX K or Evo going through modifications to become road legal just like models such as the McLaren P1 GTR and Aston Martin Vulcan.
We have yet to see Ferrari confirm such a plan but an artist has already done this virtually. From Aksyonov Nikita of Behance comes a rendering of a street legal FXX K Evo. At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, Japanese automaker Mazda presented the 2018 Mazda6, which made a lot of people very excited. But that was not the only vehicle that they brought over to the City of Angels. Alongside it was the updated version of the RT-24P racing coupe, and this time, the race car wears a striking red paint that, without a doubt, will catch your attention. The motorsport spec machine will also compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s 2018 season.
If you were not aware, Mazda has taken the updated RT-24P to several places in the past couple of months like Hockenheim and Donington Park. And during the LA Auto Show, it had competition livery on that uses Mazda’s eye-catching Soul Red Crystal paint.
At this moment, we cannot judge how the RT-24P will perform as a race car, but what it promises is that it will be one of the most beautiful cars on the circuit. For instance, the body has gorgeous lines that flow over the vehicle’s body, making the coupe look fast even if it is just parked. It has got an angular air scoop in exposed carbon fiber that creates a visual division with its already smooth shape. McLaren revealed that a 720S GT3 is already underway and will in fact keep their hands very busy for the most of 2018, considering that most of the development will be taking place at the company’s new facility in Woking, England. Despite not disclosing any technical details, McLaren at least shared a couple of renderings of the 720S GTS to give everyone a glimpse of its future racecar.
We’ve noticed on the rendering that it turns out to appear more aggressive than its road going version mainly for its race-spec features. For one, the 720S GT3 now has a new pair of dive planes-- one on the left and one on the right. It also has a new vented hood at the middle plus huge new air intakes at the front end. Even the pair of side mirrors seems to have an air of aerodynamic quality into them as well.
There are several other racing characteristics which will surely not go unnoticed even if you don’t have a keen eye for detail. Aston Martin has just unveiled the next generation of its Vantage sports car. Incredibly, it didn’t take long for the carmaker’s official motorsports arm Aston Martin Racing to introduce the racing GTE version of the sports car – the new 2018 Aston Martin Vantage GTE.
The British carmaker unveiled the next-gen Aston Martin Vantage in the morning of November 21, 2017. That night, in a well-synchronized launch, Aston Martin Racing took the wraps off the GTE racing derivative. This was well-expected as after all, the Vantage GTE was developed in parallel with the Vantage road. AMR – working from its base in Banbury -- closely collaborated with Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters for the parallel development of the road-going and circuit-bound models.
Simply put, the Vantage GTE is like a Vantage in steroids. AMR took the core design and dynamic capabilities of the next-gen Vantage to an entirely new level by extensively optimizing its powertrain and chassis as well as aerodynamics. In was in March 2017 when Aston Martin gave the world its first look at the Valkyrie hypercar. Back then, the brand also revealed that it would create 25 models that are track-exclusive with 150 units being road versions.
While the track-only model was developed at the same time as the road version, it does not face any considerations or limitations faced during road use. Indeed, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro is a track-only evolution of the brand’s most extreme model. This model is truly the ultimate expression when it comes to performance. The Valkyrie AMR Pro is the brainchild of one of Formula One’s most successful designer, Adrian Newey. Have you heard of the hottest car from Bentley? Bentley’s third generation Continental GT has gotten more athletic after receiving the latest GT3 upgrade under its new platform. So what makes the GT3-spec extra special? While the Continental GT packs a 626hp 6.0-liter biturbo W12 engine, the GT3’s 4.0-liter 550hp biturbo V8 is a race-specified engine integrated with the Cosworth management system.
In addition to the upgraded dry sump, intake and exhaust, majority of the Continental GT’s standard markings were stripped off to achieve the GT3’s ideal weight. That means, Bentley Motorsport did whatever is necessary to transform the GT into a pure race car--- including stripping out the interior and installing a number of carbon fiber body panels.
The carbon fiber diet was a huge success as the GT3 race car only weighs about 2,866lbs (1300kg) which is significantly lighter than the regular GT. Great things could really come in small packages. This was proven earlier this year by Giannini 350 GP, which was basically a rear-wheel drive Fiat 500 on steroids, both in looks and power. Now, Giannini, in collaboration with GRAM (Gram Torino Engineering), is rolling out a version of the Giannini 350 GP that features an all-wheel drive system – the Giannini 350 GP4.
As its name indicates, the Giannini 350 GP4 has the power sent from its engine to all four wheels. This capability is well-indicated on red “4x4” graphics on its sides. Giannini hasn’t disclosed the identity of the mill powering the 350 GP4, but as its moniker tells us, this engine is tuned to deliver 350 hp. It remains unknown whether this is the same engine that also lurks inside the rear-wheel driven 350 GP. The 350 GP is powered by the same 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that powers the Alfa Romeo 4C. This 350-hp (261 kW) powerplant is fitted on the rear – just behind the front seats -- of the 350 GP, resulting to its rear seats being removed from the tuned Fiat 500.
While the engine the of the 350 GP was installed behind the front seats, that of the 350 GP4 has been fitted underneath the front bonnet – just like that on a regular Fiat 500. This means that the space behind the rear seats has been freed up, allowing Giannini and GRAM to reinstall the rear seats. This weekend at the Finali Mondiali event at the Mugello Circuit in Italy, Ferrari finally took the covers off the FXX K Evo, after making an announcement earlier this week. Similar with the FXX Evo and the 599 XX Evo, the Maranello-based machine will be compatible with the 40 cars of the standard FXX K that currently exist. But this will not just be available as a package, but will also be offered as an “extremely limited-run model”. Even after the reveal, the automaker does not say how many examples will be made.
The track-only FXX K Evo’s main features are the upgraded aerodynamic body and the fact that this helps with the car’s weight loss. The package includes a fixed twin-profile rear wing complemented by two side fins and a central fin. Everything that has been done on the outside to boost aero was made possible by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations that took place for over a year. This was done to help the FXX K Evo produce more downforce like that of cars that race in GT3 and GTE championships.
To be more specific, the FXX K Evo now has 23 percent more downforce compared to the standard model. That is equivalent to 75 percent more than the road-going LaFerrari, which it is based on. Volkswagen had been reluctant to offer info about its new race car but it seems to have gotten over some of its shyness as it published the first batch of teasers last October 18. The company plans to have this model participate in the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Club. After four decades of being an expert in the motorsport industry, Audi will be the first German automaker to compete in Formula E. This will be done to test the development of new technologies to be used in production, according to the Member of the Board of Management, Peter Mertens.
After a number of powertrains like the quattro, TFSI, TDI, hybrid drive and many others, the single-seater race car will test electric mobility as it relates to what the 2018 Audi e-tron will use. Soon, production-based electric cars could now race against each other on the circuits against the background of the FIA Formula E Championship, which is considered as the pinnacle of electric vehicle motorsports in the world. Dubbed as the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, this new all-electric race series is the first international championship in the world for production-based electric cars. As the support series for the Formula E Championship, the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series will be held on the same city circuits on the same weekend schedules. Just like the Formula E Championship, the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will be a 10-race series to be held in cities like Hong Kong, New York, Paris, Rome and Sao Paolo.
The first event of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series will commence in late 2018, or at the start of season five of the Formula E. Earlier in August, Acura gave us teasers of the ARX-05 Daytona Prototype race car. And last Thursday night in Monterey, they have decided to finally reveal it to the public.
What the company has confirmed so far is that the Acura ARX-05 will be competing at next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The race car is going to have the same chassis as the ORECA 07 while featuring a typical Acura specific bodywork. It will also be getting a pair of Jewel Eye headlights.

The BMW M1 will be one of the most exclusive cars that will be showcased at the upcoming 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, alongside many other extravagant models. Firstly, there are only 40 units of this model that was ever built, but what makes this one unique is that it is the only road-legal BMW M1 Procar. Thanks to the Thermal Club, this example will be heading to Monterey this weekend, and it will be displayed by a virtual reality track experience. The Thermal Club is a private motorsports club that will also offer a virtual tour of their 344-acre facility for Pebble Beach guests.
The BMW M1 Procar Championship was made in accordance with the Federation Internationale du Sport Automobile (FISA) standards. In 1971, the said model was produced by the company in a limited one-year run. And just after two years, it had already been dismantled.
What makes it the one and only street-legal model? Well, the first owner of this race-ready M1 Procar had its racing parts removed before selling it to as a second hand car. After the M1 had been produced, there was no series to race the cars in so BMW was left with the 40 track-focused examples. Each was a stripped out version of the road model where they were based. Luckily for number 31 of 40, it was the only M1 Procar that had been converted into a street legal model. The M1 came with a 3.5 liter straight-six engine that produced as much as 470 horsepower (350 kilowatts).
