Aston Martin may be known for building many of the stylish Bond cars we see on the big screen but nobody really knew how it can get super aggressive when it comes to undermining the competition. Until now.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO recently discussed with Autoblog and shared more details about its plans for a mid-engine supercar. Like he said, the 488 GTB is the best car in its segment and that they are hell-bent on competing against it.

When asked how the company is going to take on the Ferrari 488 GTB, Palmer admittedly said that they need to recruit some of Ferrari’s key people particularly the head of engineering and the head of powertrains. In fact, he also admitted that there are three of them who are now already working for him.

Ferrari 488 GTO will soon be revealed to us

Ferrari is cooking up something interesting for us. The last time they released the 488 GTB was two years ago, followed by a 488 Spider and several versions of it. And now, it seems like they are preparing for the release of the 458 Speciale’s successor, the 488 GTO.

So, whats there to be excited about? The Ferrari 488 GTO is meant to rival Porsche’s 911 GT2. Therefore, the race-inspired flagship model will have a 3.9 liter twin-turbo V8 engine, capable of producing 700 horsepower (521 kilowatts). That is a huge power difference from its predecessor, and the Spider’s 493-kilowatt (660 hp) engine. It is expected for the 760 Newton-metre torque to increase as well due to the increased boost from the turbochargers.

The track-focused 488 GTO will follow a “more power, less weight” principle - just like the 360 Challenge Stradale and the 430 Scuderia. The company aims to bring the weight just under 1400 kilograms. And to cut down some of its weight, the 488 GTO will be built with a stripped out cockpit, thinner glass, and perhaps a more aggressive aerodynamic kit.

German tuner VOS Performance builds fiercer, more powerful Ferrari 488 GTB

The Ferrari 488 GTB was first launched on February 3, 2015 prior to its world premiere at the March 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The 488 GTB is the successor of the much-loved 458 Italia and is now the standard bearer for all things “super” in the Ferrari line-up.

This two-seat berlinetta is powered by a twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 that makes a distinct sonorous sound and monstrous acceleration, making it one of the most vicious supercars that have ever set foot (or its wheels) on this planet.

The car is named after its 488 cubic centimeter per cylinder displacement (times eight, works out about 3,902 cc displacement). Even with a 0.6-liter deficiency compared to its predecessor, the 488 GTB engine is still capable of producing more power. It can reach up to 661 horsepower and 561 lb.-ft. of torque. With this much power, this dual-clutch seven-speed supercar can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.0 seconds covering a quarter-mile in 10.45 seconds. It is also estimated to have a top speed of 205 mph. The 488 GTB is surely one for the books with power and class as its best asset.

Similarly wrapped Ferrari 488 GTB rendezvous with 308 Gr4 Pioneer

Featuring a polyester body and powered by a 310 hp three-liter V8 engine, the Ferrari 308 Gr4 Pioneer (Ferrari 308 GTB), was a truly imposing vehicle. This race car allowed Jean Claude Andruet to win the 1981 Tour de France Auto.

This is also the same car that allowed Andruet to grab second place at the European Rally Championship in the same year, despite taking part in only seven races while eventual winner Adartico Vudafieri in his Fiat 131 participated in 15 events. Andruet and the 308 repeated their win at the Tour de France Auto in 1982. It was a classic race as Andruet went head to head against Jean Ragnotti and his R5 Turbo.

As a tribute to this classic race car, Ferrari has wrapped a Ferrari 488 GTB with a livery similar to that of the 308 Gr4 Pioneer. This new livery, created in a collaboration between the Italian sports car maker’s Tailor Made division and Parisian Ferrari dealer Charles Pozzi, features the same color scheme as the iconic 308 Gr4 Pioneer -- the iconic blue and white. Moreover, the Ferrari 488 GTB is specified with wheels that closely resemble those of the iconic 308 308 Gr4 Pioneer.

At this year’s Festival of Speed, Ferrari is unveiling its most recent mid-rear-engined V8 supercar, the 488 GTB, and the FXX-K to UK audiences. These two cars will be participating in the 1.6 mile Goodwood Hill Climb together with a full supporting lineup of Ferrari cars. The 488 GTB would be the first mid-engined twin-turbo V8 from Ferrari ever since the legendary 288 GTO and F40.

It boasts 650CV and has a one-of-a-kind engine management system that produces torque in a controlled and sustained manner with zero turbo lag and response times similar to that of a naturally-aspirated V8 engine. It comes as no surprise that the vehicle is powered by a new 3902 cc V8 turbo engine that produces an outstanding 670 hp at 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm of torque in the seventh gear.

This is different from the 3855 cc unit that is used on the California T. The rear wheels get power through a modified seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox taken from the 458 Italia. Ferrari said that the gearbox is equipped with a new Variable Torque management system that can smoothly release the torque right across the rev range.

Ferrari’s 488 GTB was unveiled during an exclusive event with almost a thousand guests attending. This is Ferrari’s latest supercar that has the V8 mid-engine. A number of high profile guests like Donna Air, Jade Parfitt, Mary Charteris, Made in Chelsea stars, and even singer-songwriter John Newman, attended the launching. The different VIPs present were joined by selected press and members of the brand’s highly exclusive client list in a red themed soiree held at Old Sorting Office, Holborn.

The highlight of the evening of course was the eventual unveiling of the 488 GTB. Before the unveiling, the guests were made to sit in a track style grandstand and spoiled with amazing performances. They also saw exclusive video footage of the 488 GTB and even a 3D laser map of the model. The 488 GTB was then unveiled.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a revised seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox derived from 458 Italia. According to Ferrari, the gearbox features a new Variable Torque management system capable to unleash the massive torque smoothly and powerfully right across the rev range.

The engine is able to push the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.3 seconds, while top speed is 330 km/h or 205 mph. Moreover, the 488 GTB is able to lap the Fiorano racetrack in just 1 min and 23 seconds, making it two seconds faster than the 458 Italia and only half a second faster than the 458 Speciale.

As it names clearly indicates, the Ferrari F8 Tributo is a tribute to its award-winning V8 engine. For three years in a row – 2016, 2017 and 2018 – Ferrari’s 3,902-cc V8 engine grabbed the “Best Engine” accolade in the International Engine of the Year awards. It was also named as the best engine of the last two decades in 2018.

German carmaker Volkswagen is now making the latest evolution of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI -- the new Golf GTI TCR. First unveiled as a concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria, the new Golf GTI TCR is touted to be the most hardcore, most powerful and the fastest Golf GTI ever. Interested customers in Germany can now order the new Golf GTI TCR at a starting price of EUR38,950 (around $44,356) including VAT.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is basically the street going version of the same-named racing car that won the international TCR racing series two times. It is powered by a version of the carmaker’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is tuned to deliver up to 286 hp (213 kW) of max output. Power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – the only option -- with a limited-slip front differential.

With this amount of power, the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is capable of sprinting from nil to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 5.6 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). However, when a customer avails of a certain option (Vmax), the Golf GTI TCR can go as fast as 162 mph (260 km/h).

After VIN registrations revealed months ago that Porsche was planning a new 718 Cayman T, new details have surfaced that about the hardcore model. According to a report by Auto Express, the German sports carmaker has almost completed the new lightweight Porsche 718 Cayman T and is now putting the finishing touches on this new hardcore model.

As reported by Auto Express, the new Porsche 718 Cayman T will served as a follow-up to the recently released 911 T as its smaller sibling. The new 718 Cayman T will be much lighter than the 718 Cayman, as made possible by employing a number of weight saving features like thinner glass, fabric door pulls and sports seats. In addition, the 718 Cayman T has seen its audio system removed from its cabin.

Overall, the 718 Cayman T would be around 20 kg lighter – in terms of kerbweight -- than the 718 Cayman. The VIN listings uncovered in July show that the 718 Cayman T will have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 3,649 lbs(1,655 kg), which is lighter than a manual-transmission Cayman S (3,670 lbs or 1,665 kg).

Project Wami is Ares Design’s latest work, with the promise of becoming one of the most enticing roadsters ever made. More than a year after introducing the widely acclaimed ATS GT prototype at the at the luxurious Salon Privé exhibit, Automobili Turismo e Sport (ATS) has finally presented the final and production version of the supercar – the new ATS GT Launch Edition -- at the prestigious 2018 Monterey Car Week at The Quail.

The ATS GT Launch Edition takes inspiration from the 1964 ATS 2500 GT, a small coupe designed by Franco Scaglione, developed by ATS co-founders Giotto Bizzarrini and Carlo Chiti, and built more than 50 years ago. Back then, ATS only built 12 examples of the 2500 GT. As it seeks to honor the original model, ATS is also building 12 examples of the new GT Launch Edition.

Designed by ATS chief designer Emanuele Bomboi, the new ATS GT Launch Edition boasts of an aerodynamic bodywork -- made of carbon fiber – that reinterprets the original design of the 2500 GT. It features unique side-blades and seemingly floating rear lights. These rear lights are designed to extract the hot air from the engine bay. The GT Launch Edition makes use of the company’s Sistema-Trio hand-welded titanium with mufflers.

The only hybrids that automotive customers can get now from Porsche are its Panamera four-door saloon and its Cayenne sports utility vehicle. While the German sports car maker has confirmed that it would build a hybrid version of the Porsche 911 sports car, that won't happen in the near term. For those who can’t wait for Porsche to offer a 911 hybrid, Vonnen Performance is offering to convert your sports car into one.

Porsche’s main reason for not offering a hybrid version of the 911 is that the German company still doesn’t believe that the current battery technology is on par with its expectations for its venerated sports car. But with the rapid pace that the battery technology is growing, that could happen in the next few years. Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume had said that a 911 hybrid may arrive on the mid-cycle refresh of the 992 generation, which should happen by around 2022 or so.

Because Porsche won't do a 911 hybrid now, Vonnen Performance is offering to do so for 911 models built between 2012 and 2016. This also applies for other Porsche offerings currently not having a hybrid version, like the Boxster and the Cayman. The conversion kit and the entire setup would cost a Porsche owner around $75,000.

The official presentation of the new BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M, which series development has already been kicked off, took place during the DTM racing weekend at the Nrburgring (September 7 to 9, 2018). October 2019 is an important month for Nissan. It marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary 240Z, which is the original Z model from the Japanese carmaker. As part of the celebrations, Nissan is planning to unveil a new Z car – in prototype form -- at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, which coincides with the 50th year of the very first Z model.

This was basically confirmed by Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design, during an interview with Whichcar.com.au. Before this confirmation, there had been rumors that Nissan is planning a replacement for the 370Z, which has been in production since nearly 10 years ago. This decade-old two-seater rear-wheel-drive coupe is considered as one of the oldest sports car available in the market. A replacement would hardly surprise anyone, but back then, Nissan had yet to confirm anything.

During an interview with Whichcar.com.au, Albaisa remarked that is a huge pressure in creating a new Z car, adding that he is completely excited that he is in the position to work on the newest Z model. His statement essentially confirmed the rumors and the possibility of a new Z car. This also confirmed that no less than Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design is involved in the project. Nonetheless, many are thrilled that the 370Z won't be continued as another version – instead a new Z car is really on the way. Expect a new Z prototype at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
