Google exec wins Ferrari 599 XX Evo at charity auction for quake victims

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has turned over a special edition Ferrari 599 XX Evo to Benjamin Sloss, an executive at Google, in Monza, Italy. The turnover, which entailed handing over of the keys to Sloss, was the result of a recent charity auction to raise funds for families affected by the earthquake that shook the Emilia Romagna region in May 2012.

The 599 XX Evo was the star item of the auction that also featured other Ferrari vehicles. Sloss eventually won the auction for the 599 XX Evo after bidding EUR1.4 million, all of which will go to charity. Tagging along the ceremonial turnover were Sloss’ wife Christine and Ferrari Scuderia drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

In addition to the Ferrari 599 XX Evo, Sloss also received an additional souvenir in form of a photo taken outside the team motorhome, alongside the Ferrari men. According to Sloss, he is thrilled with the event and is extremely happy to have contributed to the cause. Sloss remarked that he decided to participate in the charity event after hearing of the disaster that shook Italy, with hopes of helping with the reconstruction plans.

Ferrari leaks image and videos of its 599 successor dubbed F620 GT

Ferrari has leaked some bits of information and an image of its 599 successor on various Internet sites.  The super car maker released a darkened photo through its Ferrari.com Web page, and video through its media site. Ferrari, however, released just a few details about the 599 successor, which is speculated to be dubbed as the F620 GT.

The 599 successor will be a 12-cylinder grand-touring vehicle, and will have a power rating that might be higher than the current 599’s 612 hp. Ferrari is expected to announce details of the successor on February 29, a leap day. The 599 successor’s first teaser video shows clips of the car driving though the Fiorano circuit in Italy. The clips showed the 599 successor’s well-camouflaged body and a bit of the interior.  A subsequent video released Thursday shows the 599 successor being assembled at a Ferrari plant, in all its naked greatness – in unpainted metal.

Ferrari’s new 599 GTB Fiorano is a stunning and sculptural car, featuring a very supple design where every new angle brings new elements to light. The car’s form indicates a harmonious balance between extreme sportiness and unique sophistication.

Ferrari 599 successor will use aluminum instead of carbon fiber

Although most sports cars manufacturers are struggling to reduce the weight of their cars by using carbon fiber, it appears that Ferrari will go against this trend for the 599 GTB Fiorano successor codenamed F152. According to the latest reports, the Italian manufacturer doesn’t think that carbon fiber present enough weight saving to justify the difficulty in repair in case of a crash. As a result, the F152 will use plenty of aluminum.

Although it seems to be a strange move for Ferrari, we do believe that the Italian engineers know what they are doing. Ferrari’s main Italian rival, Lamborghini, invested plenty of many in carbon-fiber composites and techniques.

Moreover, the new Ferrari F152 will use plenty of parts from the FF, such as an upgraded version of the V12 engine as well as the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

2011 Bologna Motor Show Preview: Ferrari 599XX with Evolution Package

A new Ferrari will be revealed at the 2011 Bologna Motor Show: this is the 599XX with the Evolution package. The new package of performance-enhancing technical features will be available to clients for the 2012-2013 seasons. According to Ferrari, the new 599XX comes with improved chassis dynamics thanks to an active aerodynamic package integrated with the vehicles’ electronic control systems as well as a new set of Pirelli tires. Moreover, the car is more powerful, as the V12 engine delivers 750 hp and it also weighs 35 kg less.

As expected, the key to the aero package is the active rear wing design, which represents a new aerodynamic concept called ‘opening gap’. This wing features two flaps, with profiles similar to those used in Formula and can be rotated electronically in order to adjust the downforce between the front and rear axles in relation to vehicle speed and the manoeuvre being effected.

Ferrari says that this active rear wing is actuated automatically according to specific parameters, which are integrated with the car’s other control functions (ESP, ABS, SCM and F1-Trac).

The last generation of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano that will be released in January 2012 will be more impressive than any version it has had so far (except for the 599XX race car). According to Teamspeed and FerrariChat, Ferrari is currently building a final version of the car, which will likely use the Ferrari 599 Fernando Alonso edition designation.

For the car to pay a proper tribute to the F1 driver, it needs to be more agile. This means that the car will be lighter. Ferrari is expected to build fewer than 40 units of this model.

But before this last generation model arrives, fans are taking inspiration from the F10 Tribute Edition, which Alonso has recently driven.

We already know that the Ferrari 599 GTB replacement will get over 700 hp but what we didn’t know until today is that the new car will be revealed next year at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Lighter than before, the new Ferrari will be one of the firm’s fastest-ever models. According to our sources, the prototypes of the new car, dubbed F152, have already been spotted in Maranello and it is speculated that the use a new engine as well as a new transmission, developed from the FF four-seater.

The car will carry the same 6.3-liter V12 engine delivering 700 hp and will be with 50 hp more powerful than the Ferrari FF and with 80 than the current 599 GTB. Moreover, the car is expected to be rear-wheel drive and will use the Ferrari FF’s seven-speed twin-clutch transmission, with an F1-style electronic differential.

Regarding its performances, the car is expected to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds and will have a top speed of 346 km/h or 215 mph. Talking about the design, the 599 GTB replacement is expected to borrow the design language seen on the 458 Italia and the FF, but we have no details for the moment.

Ferrari’s replacement for the 599GTB is said to offer an even more extreme performance than the existing car and is priced higher too. This car will be displayed at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show this March. Ferrari also made an announcement recently that Ferrari’s 2012 successor for its Enzo supercar will be a carbon-fiber vehicle that’s equipped with V-12 mounted midships and a hybrid system.

Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa also confirmed that the replacement for the 599GTB, which is set to be released in 2012, will keep its front-engine arrangement. It will be built mostly from aluminum alloys and not from carbon composites.

Felisa said that this vehicle will deliver more than 700hp, according to Caranddriver. Notably, the new Lamborghini Aventador offers 700hp. However, Felisa denies that the company is consciously competing with the Aventador in terms of the horsepower offered. The outgoing 599GTB produces 612hp and the GTO version delivered 661hp, so achieving 700hp isn’t that much of a stretch.

Tuning firm Vorsteiner is set on creating an entire lineup of applications for Ferrari cars, starting with the Ferrari 599-VX. This project makes use of lightweight aerodynamics, performance exhaust and wheels. It has always been Vorsteiner’s philosophy to enhance the car and to not compromise any functionality, quality and performance.

But what could be considered as the main breakthrough in this project are its technological advanced features instead of its pleasant look.

Its body kit is lighter by 70% compared to the factory vehicle. Vorsteiner used a front fascia, a custom racing hood, rear fender intake covers, rear deck lid wing and a rear bumper with diffuser. The latest carbon technology will be used for each of the 599-VX aerodynamic components to reduce the weight considerably.

Ferrari had only set out to give the 599 a facelift for the 2012 but FF made such a good impression that the company will now replace the 599. Its look takes inspiration from the FF and it offers a significantly better performance. Ferrari is targeting a completion date of late 2012. Its V-12 engine is expected to have an output of 700hp.

In the FF, 6.3 liters can be displaced and it will feature natural aspiration and a limit that’s estimated at 8500-rpm. This engine is actually a stronger version of the power unit. It features direct fuel injection, which can be interpreted to mean that it will exceed the performance of the current 599 while providing significant fuel economy gains.

Performance also gets a boost because of the drop in weight. This model is built on an aluminum frame, which comprises about 20 different alloys to achieve the best local qualities of joint strength, weight, energy absorption, panel finish, and stiffness.

It has been three years since the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano replaced the 575M Maranello and it is time for a restyling, which is anticipated to be principally centered on the front section of the car, aiming at giving the car an edgier, more current appearance.

Larger and more aggressive air intakes are to be expected, together with California-inspired adjustments around the grill. There won't be lots of power boosting require since the 599's basic 611hp (456kW) power yield is already sufficient enough.

The 599 HGTE, which was revealed just of late, offers a foretaste of the new direction Ferrari is most likely to go with regards the styling of the standard 599, with flares and mesh grill-work that is bolder, but nothing extreme or flashy.

The latest improvement on the Ferrari 599, which is called the Handling Grand Turismo Evoluzione (HGTE), was initially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last March. The intention of the HGTE is to offer a sportier and more active driving experience.

Included in the technical modifications are a revised arrangement with stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar together with a new calibration setting for the magnetorheological shock absorbers when the manettino is set to its sportier settings.

The car's center of gravity was lowered with the reduction in ride height. For better grip, the tires were optimized with special compounds.

Responding to criticism that the 599 GTB reduces turn in and leads to slower lap times, Ferrari engineers analyzed the problem and came up with a new track-focused handling package called the Handling Grand Turismo Evoluzione (HGTE). The upgrade, which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last March, is designed to deliver an even sportier, more dynamic driving.

Modifications to the 599 GTB include a modified set-up with stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar and new calibration settings for the magnetorheological shock absorbers when the manettino is at its sportier settings. Ferrari lowered the ride height, added optimized tires that offers better grip, and tinkered with the electronics to ensure a more prompt response to driver commands.

A marked improvement can be noticed in the F1 gearbox shifts that are now faster in high-performance settings and accelerator response was improved due to a new engine software strategy.

The tuning specialists at Novitec Rosso applied their skills on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and called it the Performance Stage 3 package. They raised the power output to 660 hp / 485.7kW however, the modifications brought to the engine block did not alter its inner workings.

The conversion was made by a new engine management system composed of new mapping for ignition and injection as well as an increase in maximum engine speed to 8,550 rpm.

As a result of these engine modifications, the car's top speed also increased by 5 km/h to 335 km/h. Pricing for the conversion starts at 10,490 euros. The Novitec Rosso sport exhaust system, which is available in two different versions, features four tailpipes with diameters of 90 millimeters.
