Alistair Moffatt drives a Fiat 124 Abarth to a new Guinness World Record for fastest figure of eight
Setting a new record, especially a world record, has been a way for carmakers to advertise the capabilities not just of their cars, but also of their organizations as well. Fiat is nothing new to setting new world records, and its most recent feat was certified by none other than the Guinness World Record. This new Guinness World Record was for achieving the 'fastest figure of eight, five times between two cars,' as set by a Fiat 124 Abarth Spider.
Fiat made the world record attempt during the 2018 Chateau Impney Hill Climb in July this year. Two Fiat 124 Abarth spiders were placed in a distance from each other, serving as large markers. A Fiat 124 Abarth stunt car was on standby, with Alastair Moffatt -- a world-renowned stunt driver and world record-holder -- behind its steering wheel. All Moffatt has to do was to maneuver the stunt car in a figure of eight between the two Fiat 124 Abarth spider markers five times in a row without a slip.
Then, Moffatt commenced the stunt. He executed the figure-of-eight sliding maneuver neatly between the two cars. He did it five times in close succession, and completed the entire stunt in just 45.66 seconds. In the process, Moffatt and the Fiat 124 Abarth achieved a new Guinness World Record for the 'fastest figure of eight, five times between two cars.'Read the entire article Alistair Moffatt drives a Fiat 124 Abarth to a new Guinness World Record for fastest figure of eight
As a focal part of its display during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Fiat will be showcasing its long history. Fiat will be officially unveiling the 60th anniversary edition of the 500. In addition, it will also be putting on display the limited Europa version of the 124 Spider having a retro-inspired design. Fiat will also be showing new styling packages that it knows will give other models that elegance.
The production of the 500 started back on July 4, 1957, which means this year it will be marking its 60th year. The special edition of this celebrated convertible will have two-tone paint in addition to the various classic touches. For the body itself, the upper portion is in Ivory with the lower part in three-layer white. There is also a pinstripe in burgundy and gray that enhances the visuals. The chrome trim on the exterior heightens this feel even further, same with the retro Fiat logos.
The old-school effect is evident on the exterior as well, with the seats in Ivory leather and the seams in burgundy. There is also a matching trim that can be seen on the dashboard. It is fitted with an impressive host of standard features such as the automatic climate control and the navigation system with the 7-inch display screen.Read the entire article Fiat at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show
This year, Fiat continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 124 Spider. However, this is not what Fiat is all about. Back in August, there were reports that the brand was planning to come out with a sports car based on the Mazda with the possibility of releasing a hardtop version by the next year. With this, that brand has revealed that it is indeed releasing the Fiat 124 Coupe, a model that some are saying is particularly apt for those who prefer a cool interior than experiencing the wind and the sun.
While the 124 Coupe utilizes the same platform as that of the Mazda MX-5, the differences lie in the various modifications done on the exterior. Of course, it is equipped with a new engine and the steering is even recalibrated. All these enhancements were made possible by RainPrisk, who gave this new variant a roof line that is lower and put in add-ons made of carbon fiber. In addition to ensuring that the suspension is sportier, the exhaust pipes are placed on the sides and the wheels have been made larger. On the front section, one can see the V8 badge which signifies that the 124 Coupe now delivers more power than the usual turbocharger 1.4-liter units.
Although the 124 Coupe will be locally manufactured, the assembly will be done at its facility in Japan.Read the entire article Fiat 124 Coupe rendered for our guilty pleasure
