2016 Fiat 500X makes North American debut at LA Auto Show

The 2016 Fiat 500X crossover has made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, offering a preview of Fiat’s first all-wheel-drive offering for cold weather areas in the United States. Jason Stoicevich, head of the Fiat brand for North America, remarked that while California, Texas and Florida – all warm-weather states – are the brand’s major markets in the US, the 500X gives Fiat the biggest opportunity to compete in areas where there is “some inclement weather.”

Stoicevich told Automotive News that he expects Fiat dealers in the northeast US to “do best” with the subcompact crossover. The 500X now allows Fiat to offer larger size, better functionality, and an all-wheel drive capability.

The five-passenger 500X – built in Italy -- shares a platform and a number components with the Jeep Renegade but features Fiat styling. It is available in two powertrain options. Coming as standard is a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four engine that provides 160 hp of output and 184 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

2019 VW Arteon debuts in Chicago, set to start selling in 3Q

For Volkswagen fans, we are sure that you know that the Arteon has been on sale overseas for quite some time now. And now, the automaker has good news for United States fans as the midsize sedan makes its debut at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show. And speaking of the model, it is set to go on sale in the US during the third quarter of the year. The Arteon now has more cabin space, and is a better and more modern replacement for the VW CC.

The Arteon, a midsized sedan with a four-door coupe like roofline, is based on the same MQB modular platform, as models like the Golf, Tiguan, and the new Jetta. Similar to the CC that came before it, the Arteon is sleeker, and has better styling elements. In fact, it acts as a good alternative to the Passat sedan.

Though similar to the CC, the Arteon has a wheelbase that is five inches longer than the CC, making it longer and wider - meaning that it gives more space to the passengers. In contrary to that, it gets shorter overhangs that make it look extra sporty.

German group accuses Fiat 500X compact SUV of exceeding diesel emissions levels

In a recent press conference at Berlin, Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), an environmental lobby group based in Germany, continues to strengthen its campaign against automotive industry pollution as it accuses the 500X compact SUV of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) of excessive toxic diesel emissions.

The group has already named automotive company Renault, the Opel division of General Motors (GM) Company, and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz for excessive levels of harmful emissions. DUH campaigner Axel Friedrich claimed that extreme NOx emission overruns have been detected on the Renault Espace, Opel Zafira, Mercedes C Class, and recently a Fiat SUV.

So far, FCA has refused to comment on the issue. The accused car makers denied that they are involved in illegal activities. However, they recognize the fact that some of their vehicles actually release higher levels of toxic emissions when tested in real-life conditions compared to when they’re tested in the norms provided in a prescribed test regime as specified by regulators.

Likewise, both the 500X and the Renegade are to be produced on the same assembly line in Italy. Despite that FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne remarked that the vehicles are “two very different cars," since the Fiat is a crossover, and "the Jeep is a Jeep."

Both the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X will be crucial for Marchionne to prove a merger between Fiat and Chrysler could really compete globally against larger carmakers like Toyota Motors Corp, Volkswagen AG and General Motors Co.

Organizers of the Geneva Auto Show apologized to Fiat after its Web site published a bogus picture of the Italian carmaker’s 500X crossover. The image was eventually taken off the site after Fiat complained that it was not genuine. Fiat has prepped the 500X to replace the Sedici in its European lineup in 2014. Fiat said the 500X will not be unveiled at the Geneva auto show slated in March.

According to a spokesperson for the show, the image had been wrongly taken from the Internet. The spokesperson told Automotive News Europe that they pulled out the picture immediately and offered Fiat their sincere apologies.

The image in question is revealed to be an artist's impression of the 500X, based from an official picture of the Mazda CX-5 compact crossover. The artist's impression indicates a vehicle similar to a full-size styling model of the 500X that Fiat unveiled in Turin in July, when the Italian carmaker previewed the 500L small minivan.

The fourth member of Fiat’s 500 family is a baby SUV bandwagon dubbed the 500X, which would go on sale in 2013. It brings the brand into a new segment where it will compete with the MINI Countryman. Several images have been released, demonstrating that the production version would have the most rugged looks in a 500.

It features thick wheelarch cladding and more ground clearance. It will be available with front or four-wheel drive. Fiat said that the 500X aims to widen its customer base by attracting male consumers. Already, the 500 and 500L have gathered a huge number of mostly female fans. Even with its rugged looks, the car can still be easily identifiable as a 500.

They share the same headlamp and tail-light treatments. They also have the same chrome badge on the nose. The side windows are flatter, which means that several of the hatch’s cute bubble-car styling weren’t carried over. As a result, it appears bolder and more solid, especially when combined with the chunkier bumpers.
