Alistair Moffatt drives a Fiat 124 Abarth to a new Guinness World Record for fastest figure of eight
Setting a new record, especially a world record, has been a way for carmakers to advertise the capabilities not just of their cars, but also of their organizations as well. Fiat is nothing new to setting new world records, and its most recent feat was certified by none other than the Guinness World Record. This new Guinness World Record was for achieving the 'fastest figure of eight, five times between two cars,' as set by a Fiat 124 Abarth Spider.
Fiat made the world record attempt during the 2018 Chateau Impney Hill Climb in July this year. Two Fiat 124 Abarth spiders were placed in a distance from each other, serving as large markers. A Fiat 124 Abarth stunt car was on standby, with Alastair Moffatt -- a world-renowned stunt driver and world record-holder -- behind its steering wheel. All Moffatt has to do was to maneuver the stunt car in a figure of eight between the two Fiat 124 Abarth spider markers five times in a row without a slip.
Then, Moffatt commenced the stunt. He executed the figure-of-eight sliding maneuver neatly between the two cars. He did it five times in close succession, and completed the entire stunt in just 45.66 seconds. In the process, Moffatt and the Fiat 124 Abarth achieved a new Guinness World Record for the 'fastest figure of eight, five times between two cars.'Read the entire article Alistair Moffatt drives a Fiat 124 Abarth to a new Guinness World Record for fastest figure of eight
There have been no straight six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles since 2007, when Jeep launched the Wrangler JK generation. While Chrysler had been using straight six-cylinder engines since 1964, it eventually decided that it was already enough for this mill.
Just recently, rumors have been sprouting about the possibility of the rebirth of straight inline six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler. These rumors also came up in 2017, but so far, no inline six-cylinder engines have been confirmed or even spied. The latest speculation was a result of a published report from Allpar, the same Web site that reported a similar rumor last year. Of course, these are just speculations, and we don’t vouch for their authenticity.
According to Allpar, Fiat Chrysler is reportedly developing a new straight-six engine as a complement to the new GME four-cylinder mills. These smooth yet compact new straight-six engines are to be derived from the new GME four-cylinder units.Read the entire article Fiat Chrysler is rumored to be resurrecting straight six-cylinder engines

Rumors of a potential merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Hyundai Motor Group quickly spread like a wildfire. But the South Korean carmaker is also quick enough to try dousing the fire by denying the rumor.
The denial was made officially to Roadshow by Michael Stewart, senior group manager of Hyundai Corporate and Marketing Public Relations. Stewart said the merger rumor is totally groundless.
As early as 2015, FCA has been courting suitors for a possible merger or takeover. In 2017, there were rumors saying that Hyundai has shown interest to acquire FCA. A number of the Chinese companies had also expressed interest in buying out FCA. At that time, Hyundai maintained its silence over the takeover. Even FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne denied the rumors. Interestingly, FCA’s share price spiked after the reports of interest.Read the entire article Hyundai denies rumors over potential merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
The automotive industry has been choosing online shows and private debuts over huge annual car shows. These shows instantly cost automakers millions, and that is why car companies have decided to entirely let go of these. The most recent news we heard was from Lamborghini, when they said that they would be skipping the 2018 Paris Motor Show, along with BMW and Mercedes Benz. Now, another large auto group, with three of its core brands, plan to do the same.
To name them, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep, will not be attending this year’s Paris Motor Show, according to website, AutoPlus France. This is also the first time that the three car brands will be ditching a major show, and Fiat explains that it is because auto shows are no longer a must do part of its ongoing strategy. Even though the three main brands will not be in attendance, its mainstream luxury marque, Maserati, will be there together with Ferrari.
This isn’t really shocking news to anyone, as we have been hearing the same thing pretty much during the first half of the year. Other automakers that will be skipping the show in Paris include: Ford, Mazda, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Opel, Subaru, Nissan and Volvo. In contrary to that, automakers that will join the show are Kia, Citroen, Jaguar, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Lexus, Peugeot, Smart, Suzuki and Toyota, meanwhile have committed to Paris for 2018.Read the entire article Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep are ditching the 2018 Paris Motor Show
It was back in 1899 when Fiat was first established in Turin, Italy. It has remained in one form or another for over a century. However, current CEO of the company, Sergio Marchionne, has said that the company will soon get rid of mass market vehicle production in the country. This June, the CEO will introduce new measures that will most Fiat production out of Italy.
Bloomberg has said that the Turin plant, which was inaugurated in 1939, will have the most major changes. What will happen is that the facility that presently produces fewer than 50,000 vehicles annually will have to accommodate a Maserati SUV together with the Levante, as well as several more Jeep products - this seems like a lot to handle.
As for Fiat models, the Panda will be moved to the Poland plant, while the MiTo’s production will have to be stopped. Its future has yet to be determined. The people who are in charge of this project do not want to be named since it is not meant to be public.Read the entire article Fiat will terminate production of mass-market cars in Italy
The 2018 Fiat 500 has arrived. The latest model will be getting a slight price hike. Of course, this comes with an updated look, some added tech, and a new turbocharged engine. The petite hatchback first made an appearance at the Chicago Auto Show, and this will go on sale later in the year. It will come with a new price tag of $16,245, which is $1,250 more than its price the year before.
The $16,245 MSRP is for the most affordable Pop trim, which comes with a manual (the automatic option with an extra $995). For the sake of comparison, the 2017 Fiat 500 Pop started at just $14,995. The Fiat 500 not only gets an increased range, but the entry level pricing has gone up as well. Also, there is a more expensive destination charge, now at $1,245.
Up next is the 500 Lounge. Buyers will need to be willing to spend $20,990, a whole $1,500 more than the previous year. Even the 500 Abarth gets an increase of $750, with a starting MSRP of $21,740. The base Fiat 500’s new asking price represents a 9.4 percent increase yearly, according to CarsDirect.Read the entire article 2018 Fiat 500 is costlier but comes with extra power
The upcoming 2018 New York Auto Show is home to a number of premieres. Some of these are the Lincoln Aviator, 2019 Ford Fusion, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Corolla hatchback, and many others. While the hype is huge for these models, there are also those that made their mark albeit in a more subtle way. One of those is the 2018 Fiat 500 Urbana Edition.
In case you were wondering, Urbana is not the new nameplate for the 500 range. That is because it is already used in the 500X and is used by the 500L Trekking. In the newest application, the special edition model gets a black trimmed exterior lights, it then sits in s set of 16 inch “hyper black” aluminum wheels with signature Urbana Edition elements.

Great things could really come in small packages. This was proven earlier this year by Giannini 350 GP, which was basically a rear-wheel drive Fiat 500 on steroids, both in looks and power. Now, Giannini, in collaboration with GRAM (Gram Torino Engineering), is rolling out a version of the Giannini 350 GP that features an all-wheel drive system – the Giannini 350 GP4.
As its name indicates, the Giannini 350 GP4 has the power sent from its engine to all four wheels. This capability is well-indicated on red “4x4” graphics on its sides. Giannini hasn’t disclosed the identity of the mill powering the 350 GP4, but as its moniker tells us, this engine is tuned to deliver 350 hp. It remains unknown whether this is the same engine that also lurks inside the rear-wheel driven 350 GP. The 350 GP is powered by the same 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that powers the Alfa Romeo 4C. This 350-hp (261 kW) powerplant is fitted on the rear – just behind the front seats -- of the 350 GP, resulting to its rear seats being removed from the tuned Fiat 500.
While the engine the of the 350 GP was installed behind the front seats, that of the 350 GP4 has been fitted underneath the front bonnet – just like that on a regular Fiat 500. This means that the space behind the rear seats has been freed up, allowing Giannini and GRAM to reinstall the rear seats. This means that the 350 GP4 could accommodate more people inside its cabin.Read the entire article Giannini 350 GP4 is an all-wheel drive Fiat 500 on steroids
The Fiat 500L may not be as adorable as its smaller Fiat 500 sibling, but a lot of people do find it more appealing. However, to keep the small SUV interesting, Fiat came up with the City Cross Edition, which gives it an overall, more rugged look.
The City Cross edition will only be available in Europe, and it will include physical changes like a bigger bumper, new skid plates, a refreshed grille, and suspension that has been increased by an inch (25 millimeters). It now comes standard with a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and customers will be able to choose from nine colour options. One of them would be the Sicilia Orange finish that you can see in the photo.
These colours are not just limited to the exterior, as buyers can opt to extend colour customization to the cabin. This includes an enveloped dashboard fascia that they can get in either black or white. Furthermore, they get also get black fabric seats that have the “500” logo stitched on the backrests for a sportier feel. This is what Fiat meant when they refer to “further customization options” - personalizing the car inside and out.Read the entire article Europeans can now get the City Cross Edition of the Fiat 500L
Recently, we have been hearing news that some of the biggest automakers will not make an appearance at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Despite being one of the biggest motor shows, they seem to not be getting majority of the best brands - for this year’s event at least.
Normally, we would expect most brands to showcase their new cars here. But according to Automotive News Europe, companies like DS, Infiniti, Peugeot, Jeep, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi, Volvo, and Nissan will not be attending the grand event this year. And these brands take up about 20 percent of total sales in Europe.
You must be wondering why then? Firstly, taking part in the biggest shows means spending more too. And the Frankfurt event is probably one of the most expensive events for automakers to attend. Furthermore, spending a lot of money to put your cars on display in these events doesn’t necessarily translate to more sales. So sometimes, these companies lose more money than they expect to earn.Read the entire article 9 major automakers will not attend 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show
The world wide web is plagued with all kinds of bizarre events and before you know it, there’s another Facebook page with a strange picture that could go viral within seconds or so. “How Not to Design a Car”, a social media hub obviously intended for the likes of the one pictured above knows how to keep things going. As expected, they posted some images of what seems to be a strange-looking Porsche 911. But wait, that’s not even a Porsche. It’s basically a customized Fiat 500 made to resemble a Porsche 911. How clever!
Who could have done such a thing? A person from Greece apparently did this quite impressive project (others consider it a catastrophe) ----possibly in the hopes of emulating the 911’s looks as close as possible, with only a tiny car at hand. The builder practically did everything he could and placed his newly designed or should we say “Porsche-inspired” rear bumper, trunk and hood on the Fiat 500. Not appearing to be satisfied with all of these, the panels around it have been replaced with new ones too.
The Fiat car in question is not even new by the way. But so is the Porsche 911 Turbo 996 generation. Though we have to admit, each one possesses an inexplicable charm that makes people like us say a lot of things, or in this case, devote an entire article on the beleaguering subject.Read the entire article This Fiat 500 a.k.a. Porsche 911 look-alike takes over the Internet
Fiat and Italian supermarket chain Esselunga share the same values of customer-focus and uniqueness. So for the supermarket’s sixtieth anniversary, both companies teamed up and handed over a total of 1,495 Fiat 500 cars to their new owners. This event surprised many, including the Guinness World Record judge, who later on approved for it to be included in the book of records. That is a lot of giveaways!
Overall, there were 1,520 units that were supposed to be delivered to Fiat’s Mirafiori plant where the event took place. However, 25 of the winners in the Esselunga competition could not make it to the event. Fiat said that in under two days, all the cars were collected by the winners who came from several parts of Italy including: Lazio, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, Liguria, Lombardy, and Piedmont.
The winners were given keys to their new Fiat 500 Esselunga. The special version 500 was made specifically for the competition in association with Fiat Design Center, thus only 1,520 units are available. The design of the car was inspired by the Lounge trim, riding on 14-inch wheels, with Paste White exterior finished paired with an Ivory interior. The 500 Esselunga features seven airbags, climate control, Uconnect 5 infotainment system, AUX-IN and USB ports, steering wheel controls, and LED daytime running lights. Under the hood comes a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which produces 69 horsepower (51 kilowatts).Read the entire article FCA earns Guinness World Record after delivering 1,495 Fiat 500s
It is common knowledge by now that after American actor Chuck Norris was born, he drove his mom home from the hospital. Sounds impossible, right? Got you. Back in 2008, the internet was blowing up with various Chuck Norris memes that referenced his super human strength and immortality. Due to this unexpected fame that made him an Internet cult hero and a genuine web phenomenon, Fiat Professional decided to hire the martial arts expert as their new brand ambassador for a range of advertisements that will air in June, hoping to bank on his "perpetual toughness.”
The notable martial artist will now lend his macho image to Fiat Professional as the commercial vehicle brand's official spokesperson in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Norris will also star in the Italian automaker's ads, and we are excited to see how the producers will give life to his famously powerful character. However, the ads will not be viewed in the United States due to the fact that the American martial arts star will advertise for foreign pickup and vans including the Fullback, Doblo and Ducato. But thank God for YouTube as we can see any hilarious moments make the must-see list.
Nonetheless, Norris is also the perfect person to advertise for Ram's truck, if the company so decides. Moreover, Chuck Norris is a respectable and well-liked actor by the public worldwide. Fiat Professional commented that a research test was conducted across Europe and it yielded results that named him up as the best brand ambassador when it comes to relevance, affinity and appeal for professional consumers. Officials within the Italian automotive company even confessed that Norris' amazing, ironically surreal actions, which have reached an impressive large audience, played a huge part in helping them choose the martial arts actor.Read the entire article Chuck Norris is tapped to be Fiat Professional brand ambassador in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe
The Frankfurt Motor Show is considered as one of the major auto shows, not just in Europe, but also in the world. Despite being one of the biggest events in the auto industry, the Frankfurt Motor Show will be missing at least nine major auto brands when it opens its latest edition in September 2017.
All German brands – volume or premium marques – are expected to be on full force on what is considered as one of the major shows in their home country. Sadly, though, two of PSA Group’s brands won’t take part in the 2017 edition of the show. While PSA Group has just reached an agreement to acquire German brand Opel – and its twin Vauxhall marque -- from General Motors, it has decided not to field any vehicles from its Peugeot and DS brands. However, PSA Group’s Citroen brand will be going to Frankfurt in September, since the marque is supporting a product launch, according to a spokesman from the French manufacturer.
Also skipping the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show are three brands from Italian-American carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Italian brands Fiat and Alfa Romeo as well as American brand Jeep won’t show their wares at Frankfurt this year.Read the entire article Fiat, PSA, Infiniti and Nissan will skip the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show
When Fiat’s engineers were creating the 500 Abarth, some of them probably thought they’ve reached the limits of power. However, Pogea Racing, a German extensive tuning program, discovered what these engineers have missed, and thus produced the 405-horsepower (320 kW) 500 Abarth. Yes, this outrageous amount of power for such a small car is actually possible. The result is a vehicle the company likes to call the “Ares”. This much power is even paired with impressive aesthetics with its carbon fiber widebody kit containing the monstrous power from within.
The German tuning company uses the same a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the 500 Abarth into the Ares, but the engine modifications that they had to make in order to achieve 405 horsepower and 328 lb.-ft. of torque will help you understand why this particular vehicle is limited. Forged pistons, a bigger turbo, a new camshaft, reinforced valve springs, higher flow fuel injectors, and some parts to help improve cooling are just some of the few modifications that Pogea had to do to achieve their desired power. Moreover, so that the gearbox doesn’t fail due to the extra power, Pogea has also strengthened the innerworkings of the Ares with the help of a five-speed manual transmission housing, revised clutch, and aluminum flywheel.
During the introduction of the Ares to the press, its company founder, Eduard Pogea shared that there was hardly anything in the car that they left untouched over the 4 years that his team worked on this project.Read the entire article Pogea Racing proves to the world that there’s more power in the Fiat 500 Abarth than meets the eye
How much a Fiat would sell at an auction may be something you’ve always wondered about. Well, during an auction held at Villa Erba back in 2015, a 1953 8V Cabriolet that was designed by none other than Vignale fetched a total $1.18 million (€1,120,000).
This amount though could be beaten as on the upcoming Amelia Island sale by RM Sotheby, it has been revealed that a 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic will be up for bidding. Considered by many as both more beautiful and even rarer than the one that was bid out in 2015, it may well become the most expensive Fiat sold. Given its pristine condition and the fact that it has no reserve, experts say it could go from a low of $1.6 million to a high of $1.9 million.
Designed Carrozzeria Ghia of Torino, only 15 units had the "Supersonic" styling cues. For the one that will be up for auction, it was first put on display during the Geneva Motor Show back in 1954. When it first came out of the factory in 1953, it had 000049 for its chassis number and 000085 for the engine number.Read the entire article 1953 8V Supersonic for auction may be most expensive Fiat sold
As a focal part of its display during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Fiat will be showcasing its long history. Fiat will be officially unveiling the 60th anniversary edition of the 500. In addition, it will also be putting on display the limited Europa version of the 124 Spider having a retro-inspired design. Fiat will also be showing new styling packages that it knows will give other models that elegance.
The production of the 500 started back on July 4, 1957, which means this year it will be marking its 60th year. The special edition of this celebrated convertible will have two-tone paint in addition to the various classic touches. For the body itself, the upper portion is in Ivory with the lower part in three-layer white. There is also a pinstripe in burgundy and gray that enhances the visuals. The chrome trim on the exterior heightens this feel even further, same with the retro Fiat logos.
The old-school effect is evident on the exterior as well, with the seats in Ivory leather and the seams in burgundy. There is also a matching trim that can be seen on the dashboard. It is fitted with an impressive host of standard features such as the automatic climate control and the navigation system with the 7-inch display screen.Read the entire article Fiat at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show
