2020 Ford Bronco may come with a six- or seven-speed manual transmission from Getrag

More and more vehicles are using automatic transmissions to send power from the engine to the wheels. Even supposed sporty cars have been ditching manual transmissions in favor of automatic gearboxes. But the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco could come fitted with a manual transmission, according to a report by Jalopnik.

Citing a number of sources privy with the plans, Jalopnik reported that Ford is tapping Getrag to develop a new manual gearbox for the 2020 Ford Bronco. The partnership between Ford and Getrag to develop a new manual transmission for the Bronco isn't surprising as the German company is also the one producing the manual gearbox – the MT-82 six-speed unit -- for the Ford Mustang. The new manual transmission for the new Bronco will be named as the MT-88. As per Jalopnik’s sources, this Bronco-bound transmission will be a seven-speed unit that would send power to wheels from Ford’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.

According to Jalopnik, there is a possibility that the new MT-88 manual transmission share components with the MT-82 manual gearbox. Likewise, Ford may also decide to use the new MT-88 manual transmission for the next generation of the Mustang. Nonetheless, while the current plan has the new MT-88 manual transmission being fitted in the Bronco, the fact that the vehicle is still being developed means things may change as Ford gets closer to the official unveiling of the Bronco.

WD-40 themed Ford Boosted Bronco by Aaron Vaccar prepares for 2017 SEMA Show

The original classic Ford Bronco has become more relevant lately, thanks to the upcoming release of the all new version of it. The classic 1966 Bronco will make its way to this year’s 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas to be displayed before it heads to an auction later in the year.

In collaboration with WD-40, Vaccar built this custom first-generation Bronco to mimic the many uses of the brand. It had been designed with a unique blue and yellow livery on the exterior, accented with a single black horizontal line that runs through the sides, as well as the mirror caps and blacked out roof. The front fascia gets a bright yellow frame that matches the same shade of yellow around the wheels. There is also a WD-40 logo that is etched on the front fender.

From the looks of it, the Ford Bronco had also been raised up a little and has got a larger set of wheels wrapped in off-road tires. Though not everybody may be fond of the design of the WD-40 themed Bronco, with the blue finish and bright yellow accents - just like that of Ikea. Take note that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Ford Bronco makes a return in Rampage movie, alongside Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, better known as "The Rock", is currently filming for his upcoming movie, Rampage. Alongside the star will be the Ford Bronco who will also star in the movie.

Rampage is based on the iconic video game that was first released in 1986. The plot focuses on giant monsters destroying cities leaving them as a pile of rubble. The movie premiere is scheduled to be in April 2018.

A movie of this genre definitely calls for a rugged vehicle that is suitable for some action-packed scenes, and this is where the Ford Bronco concept from 2005 enters frame. So naturally, it will be The Rock who will be driving the 4x4 two-door SUV, joined by his co-star Naomie Harris.

Ford Bronco set to make a comeback in 2020, rumored to have removable roof

Off-road driving with an open air vehicle provides another kind of experience for many off-road enthusiasts and fans. For this sake, Ford is planning to offer a version of the next generation Ford Bronco SUV which has a roof that could be removed.

Yes, the Ford Bronco will be returning back to life in 2020 and the American carmaker is reportedly intent on creating a version that allows its owners to remove and reattach the roof as they desire (removable roof). This was divulged by The Truth About Cars (TTAC), whose people managed to tell two well-placed sources within Ford that it will have a special feature called Air Roof that could transform the 2020 Ford Bronco from a full-closed SUV into an open air off-road specialist.

TTAC reported that the Air Roof system will be made up of several panels – up to six maybe – that can be removed when desired, with storage set within the Bronco. It remains unknown whether the panels will be made from glass, carbon fiber, metal or composite plastic. Most likely, the 2020 Ford Bronco will feature fixed roof rails. This means that only the roof panels could be removed but not the rails.
