Police officers sometimes go undercover. Doing so in a marked police car with standard roof-mounted police lights would defeat the purpose. Hence, police officers may use a plain-looking undercover vehicle during these instances. However, it would be too much of a hassle to switch between a plain-looking undercover vehicle and a marked police car with standard roof-mounted police lights.
Here comes a purpose-built dynamic police vehicle that could double as an undercover vehicle -- the 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility. Basically, the Ford Police Interceptor Utility is a Ford Explorer that features some police lights that no one could notice unless they are illuminated.
Up front, the 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility features a factory-installed Front Interior Visor Light Bar that allows for a stealthier appearance. This Front Interior Visor Light Bar is fully integrated at the place where the headliner and top of the windshield meet, which means driver visibility is not impeded in any way. Upon activation, the Front Interior Visor Light Bar flashes bright, alternating red and blue bars through the top of the Ford Police Interceptor Utility’s windshield. The police could program this Front Interior Visor Light Bar for red/red or blue/blue operation.Read the entire article 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility’s best feature is its clever lighting

The all-new 2016 Ford Explorer made its debut today at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. For those who don’t know, this vehicle represents a midcycle freshening and will arrive in the dealerships next summer. What’s more interesting is that the manufacturer decided to replace the old 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with a more powerful 2.3-liter EcoBoost, same offered on the 2015 Mustang, which is expected to deliver at least 270 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.
In addition to this engine, Ford will continue to offer a standard 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 and will develop 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. An even more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine will be available too, with 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. When it comes to design, the 2016 Explorer shows a rugged look, with the grille and LED headlamps positioned even higher, a new closed-off lower roof rack with channels that cascade rainwater off the vehicle as well as a new rear spoiler.
The redesigned Explorer shows new headlamps with LED signature lightning, standard LED low-beams and available LED fog lamps. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reviewing complaints over exhaust fumes or strange odors penetrating the cabins of MY2011-2014 Ford Explorer SUVs. NHTSA spokesman Jose Alberto Ucles told Automotive News in an e-mailed statement that the agency is reviewing all available data and will take appropriate action as warranted.
NHTSA, however, did not call the move as a defect investigation, and has not listed the matter as a formal probe on its Web site. Ford spokeswoman Kristina Adamski told Automotive News in an e-mail that Ford is confident in its current methods in quickly identifying and addressing potential issues.
She said that when data suggests a safety recall is needed, Ford will move quickly on behalf of customers. NHTSA recently closed a two-year-old investigation into power steering problems in late-model Ford Explorers, which indicates that the agency was satisfied with the carmaker’s recent move to call back the SUV.Read the entire article NHTSA is looking onto exhaust leaks Ford Explorer
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed its preliminary evaluation into power steering issues in MY2011-2013 Ford Explorers, which means the regulator was satisfied with the carmaker’s move to recall 195,527 units. The decision to recall the SUV highlights Ford’s want to avoid trouble just like what happened to General Motors who is facing a probe in the US Congress for its handling of cars with faulty ignition switches.
NHTSA commenced its evaluation of the 2011 Ford Explorer on June 19, 2012, citing 15 complaints claiming that power steering could suddenly fail. While Ford hardly contested the claims, the carmaker insisted the issue was rare, adding that it was not a legal violation.
Steve Kenner, global director of Ford’s automotive safety office, wrote to NHTSA in June 2013 that the carmaker believes that the loss of power steering assist does not present an unreasonable safety risk.Read the entire article NHTSA closes preliminary evaluation of Ford Explorer SUVs

It’s safe to say that the Ford Explorer is now a global model since it started production in Russia last week. Ford revealed last year that the crossover will be available in China. The Blue Oval considers this output in Russia to be significant since SUVs make up about 31% of the new-car market in this country in 2012. Even if the Explorer is sold in 64 countries and Ford has exported more than 24,000 vehicles in 2012, this marks the first time that the Explorer was built outside of the U.S.
The Explorers that are rolled out at Ford’s Sollers Elabuga Assembly Plant in the Republic of Tatarstan are meant to be sold at just the Russian market but all other Explorers will still be produced at Ford’s assembly plant in Chicago.
For the new Explorer production, Ford will hire 500 more workers to its present 1500 employees on the line at the Sollers Elabuga plant. For now, this plant also builds the Transit van, Kuga crossover, and S-Max and Galaxy models.Read the entire article Ford starts Explorer production in Russia
2013 Ford Explorer Sport offers better fuel economy and the capacity to deliver 365 hp, which is 15 hp more than what was initially announced. Ford said that the Sport variant offers the most power in the Explorer lineup. The engineers made some eleventh-hour fine tuning that made it achieve the additional 15hp.
The V-6 is partnered to a six-speed automatic that distributes power to all four wheels. The Explorer is also available with a 3.5-liter V-6, which delivers 290 hp and a 240-hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-four. The high-power Explorer Sport is at the top of the range with a price of $41,545 (including destination charges). The EcoBoost six-cylinder is the Explorer with the lowest EPA-rated mileage with 16/22 mpg city/highway.
In comparison with the 3.5-liter with all-wheel drive, the Sport is lower by one mpg in the city and on the highway. But when placed against the front-wheel-drive-only 2.0-liter, the Sport is down by four and six mpg in the city and highway, respectively. But then, the Explorer Sport does better than its nearest rival, the 390-hp Dodge Durango with its 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that returns 13/20 mpg.Read the entire article 2013 Ford Explorer Sport rated by EPA at 16 city and 22 highway mpg
Ford’s all-new 2013 Explorer Sport, which was unveiled last March, has a starting price of $41,545 (which includes destination charges). The top Explorer model features a 350-hp, 350-lb-ft turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine, partnered to a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. This is the same engine used in the Ford Taurus SHO and Flex.
However, the Explorer Sport doesn’t have as much power as the other models that use EcoBoost, specifically the 365hp Taurus and the 355hp Flex. This is because of the higher exhaust backpressure as the result of packaging and ground clearance matters. In addition, the Sport has a bigger radiator and cooling system. It also features the improved 13.9-inch brakes from the Taurus SHO Performance Package.
The Explorer’s all-wheel drive system was modified by Ford’s engineers so that as high as 80% torque could be distributed to the rear wheels – better than the 60% offered on other vehicles. The 2013 Explorer Sport features the one-of-a-kind blacked-out grille, mirror caps, headlight surrounds, a set of 20-inch wheels, and taillights.Read the entire article 2013 Ford Explorer Sport pricing announced

Furthermore, it has a towing capacity of as much as 5,000 pounds. The Explorer Sport has a mesh grille with contrasting ebony bars and a blackened lower front fascia with a gap for extra cooling. The reinvented and new Ford Explorer is an attractive model on its own as it comes with its own capability and blending style. It is even equipped with technology that guarantees its fuel efficiency, which is top-of-the-line.
Through the EcoBoost engine, fuel efficiency is at an EPA-certified rating of 28 mpg highway. Today however, Ford will be releasing a one-of-a-kind Explorer from its Chicago Assembly Plant. While it does have the craftsmanship that has become the signature of this model, it has one extraordinary feature in that it was created using an excess of 380,000 LEGO bricks and taking at least 2,500 hours to make.
Coming in bright red, this special edition of the Explorer has a weight of 2,654 pounds and is supported by an aluminum base in its interior weighing 768 pounds. In building this LEGOLAND Florida edition of the Explorer, it took a team composed of 22 designers. For those who are interested to see a time-lapse video of this model being built, a copy is available and can be viewed online. Once it has made its official debut, this special edition model will then be put to a trailer and then sent to the EGOLAND Florida theme park, a 150-acre land outside of Orlando.Read the entire article Ford creates unique Explorer from more than 380,000 LEGO bricks
It’s unfortunate that developing the latest For Explorer took many years and a huge amount of money but Consumer Reports could only give it the No. 17 rank out of the 19 that it tested.
Consumer Reports thinks that Ford’s latest crossover is only slightly better than Ford Edge and Nissan Pathfinder, which are known to have scored very low and wouldn’t be recommended. Ford has always prided itself for its product quality advances and so it would be a big blow for the Explorer to be regarded so poorly.
Ford reportedly spent millions of dollars to revamp and turn the Explorer into a car-based SUV. The Explorer is considered to be one of Ford’s most celebrated nameplates and a serious profit machine, second only to the F-series pickup.Read the entire article Why the 2011 Ford Explorer is too new to be recommended?
One of Ford Motor Co.’s strategies to overtake rivals is to reduce the weight of its lineup. CEO Alan Mulally said that coming up with lightweight vehicles is the foundation of the carmaker’s plan to comply with stricter fuel and safety regulations without having to let go of the pickups and SUVs where most of its profits come from.
It was in 2006 that Mulally joined Ford from Boeing Co. He was immediately tasked with deciding the fate of the Explorer, which had once been the top-selling sport utility vehicle in the US.
Mulally felt the pressure as at the time, Ford had just reported a $12.6 billion annual loss, and investors wanted the new CEO to replace the Explorer and its other guzzlers with models that had better fuel economy ratings. In addition, Mulally had to act quickly as Ford had staked the company name as collateral on $23 billion in bank loans.Read the entire article Ford leads the way with 2011 Explorer as carmakers embrace weight-loss
Ford Motor Co. will show off the Explorer's new Sony audio system via a 60-second TV spot starring hip-hop recording star Nelly at the Grammy Awards. In a statement, Matt VanDyke, Ford's director of U.S. marketing, said that the Grammys is a great opportunity to reach a broad audience. Going against tradition, Ford unveiled the redesigned crossover in July on Facebook instead of at an auto show.
Since then, consumers have been able to interact with Ford on Facebook where there are videos that feature engineers and several celebrities responding to questions about the crossover.
The Explorer has more than 138,000 Facebook fans. Nelly is one of the stars featured in the videos. Ford modified the video into a 60-second spot that shows Nelly talking with a TV director about the best way to publicize the Explorer's sound system. In this chat, the director suggested a lot of theatrics, but Nelly wanted to “keep it real.” While the debate goes on, Nelly's new song, “Gone,” is playing.Read the entire article 2011 Ford Explorer ad with Nelly to be shown at Grammy Awards
Over 1,800 Ford 2011 Explorers are being voluntarily recalled because the second-row seats may not offer sufficient support during a crash. The recall affects second-row seats with manual recliner mechanisms that fail to comply with seating safety standards. The seats cited by the recall are the larger, or “60%,” portion of the second-row seats of the crossover.
A report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration mentioned that in case of a crash, the seat back may not provide required strength, raising the risk of injury.
Ford revealed that the recall covers 1,658 Explorers produced at the Chicago Assembly Plant between July 15 and Dec. 13.Read the entire article Ford recalls 2011 Explorers for unsafe seat recliner mechanism
