Aluminum-bodied F-150 SVT Raptor, new Focus RS to debut at 2015 Detroit Auto Show

The 2015 Detroit Auto Show promises to be a big event, at least for Ford, which will unveil the redesigned F-150 SVT Raptor and the brand new Focus RS. As expected, the new SVT Raptor will use an aluminum body, just like the standard 2015 Ford F-150 and we expect to show the well-known aggressive design, which is perfect for travelling across the desert at high speeds.

There are no details regarding the debut of the new F-150, but according to Raj Nair a.k.a. company’s group vice president and chief technical officer, the cadence is reasonably close to the base vehicle.

The current SVT Raptor is priced at $46,190, including the $1,195 destination charge. We expect the new model not to offer a dramatic price increase.

Let’s address rumors about the next-gen Ford Focus RS

Production of the Ford Focus RS is scheduled to end exactly on April 6, but there might not be a long wait for the next one to get on the production line. According to our sources from Autocar, Ford’s hottest hatchback might actually arrive as early as 2020. This also brings back rumours that the new RS could get a hybrid powertrain.

If reports are accurate, the 2020 Ford Focus RS will keep the 2.3 liter turbocharged four cylinder. It might also get additional tuning which might slightly boost its output. Another improvement will come from a mild hybrid setup consisting of a 48-volt electrical system and integrated started generator. Overall, the system will be able to offer as much as 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 425 pound feet (576 Newton metres) of torque. It will only be available with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox though.

Autocar suggests that the hybrid system could bring other driving advantages to the Ford Focus. To be more specific, engineers might tweak the tech to contribute a boost of power when gears are changing, so that there would never be a lull in torque delivery. The integrated starter generator could also add a little bit of power from a launch.

602-hp Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 is now up for grabs at $349,000

After building more than a thousand units of four-wheeled VelociRaptor modified Raptor trucks in the past years, Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) unveiled the VelociRaptor 6X6 Concept in 2016. Nearly a year after, the company completed the final version and teased the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. Now, HPE is finally letting the VelociRaptor 6X6 out of its cage for a price that starts at $349,000.

The new Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 is basically a Raptor -- in particular a Ford Raptor truck – a transformed six-wheel drive off-road vehicle with more than 600 horsepower of output. HPE aimed to refine the VelociRaptor 6X6 and turn it from being just a concept to a full production unit. However, those wanting to get a piece of this off-road monster need to act fast and contact HPE. This is because the company is building only 50 examples of the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6. HPE is also willing to cater to customers outside the United States. Interested customers could order the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 directly from HPE or through select Hennessey / Ford dealers.

When HPE unveiled the concept version of the VelociRaptor 6X6 truck, it pegged the starting price at $295,000. However, something must have happened between the concept phase and the final production form that moved HPE to increase the base price by $54,000 to $349,000. There could be a number of changes on the parts and components or there could be some tweaks to the cost structure of creating a fully capable VelociRaptor 6X6. Nonetheless, the surge in starting price is understandable, and the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 remains significantly more affordable than the Mercedes-Benz G63 6x6, which is valued at least more than half a million dollars.

Ford opens up about exhaust smoke problem of 2016-2017 Focus RS models

There may be several owners of the Ford Focus RS who have experienced seeing white smoke coming out from the exhaust of their performance-laden hatchback. Now, the American carmaker has admitted that a version of the engine powering the Focus RS for the 2016 and 2017 model years is causing this issue, Autocar has reported.

The issue became apparent after some Focus RS owners took their predicament to Focus RS forums and even posted videos about their concerns in social sharing site YouTube. Some owners even reported that the engine – an early version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost mill – couldn’t be repaired by their dealers. Ford confirmed that the engine could develop an issue that causes it to consume coolant fluid. When the engine burns the coolant fluid, it would emit a white exhaust smoke as a result. So far, Ford hasn’t divulged the official cause of the issue, which reported affected cars with as little as 6,000 miles on their odometers.

A spokesman for the carmaker told Autocar that Ford is working on a repair for all customers, which may mean that even Focus RS models not exhibiting the issue would receive the fix. But before Ford rolls this out, it is saying that customers may bring their rides to their dealer – for an inspection and repair under warranty – if their Focus RS are showing the aforementioned symptom of white exhaust smoke. So far, Ford has only replaced affected engines with new mills built to the latest specs under warranty.

Does the RS Edition and its LSD feature deserve all the media attention? The short answer to that is yes. Let us explain why. Ford today has revealed its new Focus RS Edition together with the complete details about its latest features, price and specifications. While on stage at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new hatchback is seen to be wearing a stunning new look while dressed in Nitrous Blue body paint and fitted with blackened front splitter, spoiler, roof, and black 19-inch wheels.

The hatchback’s stunning new features are also seen along the RS Edition’s more angular and more aggressive front grille and bumpers which are even more enhanced with its massive spoiler and large exhausts down the vehicle's rear section. Beyond the menacing appearance, you will also find Recaro carbon fibre sports seats inside plus a pair of folding side mirrors on both sides of the exterior.

What’s more interesting however is that the new model receives Ford’s 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine, which is capable of up to 350PS that would allow the hatchback to run from a zero to 60mph in as quickly as 4.7 seconds. Needless to say, Ford has added the latest mechanical Quaife limited slip differential (or LSD) that should significantly improve the RS Edition’s handling and traction more than ever.

A standard Ford Focus RS that you get straight from the factory comes with a 350 horsepower (260 kilowatts) turbocharged engine and an all-wheel drive system. That is already quite fast for a Ford Focus to begin with, but there are just some people who want more. In this case, we are referring to UK-based tuner Mountune. But instead of complaining that the car is not powerful enough, they introduced an M400 upgrade for the said model instead.

But before we get into that, let us first talk about the upgrade that the company introduced last August. Ford gave the Focus RS a little push in terms of power, by increasing its output from 350 horsepower (260 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (474 Newton metres) of torque to 375 horsepower (276 kW) and 376 pound-feet (510 Nm). This was made possible, thanks to the custom air filter, the air re-circulation valve, and the new ECU. Now, the new upgrade can even push the 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine to an extra 25 horses (18 kW).

Going back to what I mentioned earlier, Mountune can unlock the Ford Focus RS’ power so it can achieve 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 413 pound-feet (560 Newton-metres) of torque. This is after they add a high-flow induction kit, a new turbo re-circulation valve, a high-flow hard pipe, and a high-performance alloy intercooler, and an upgraded ECU. All these upgrades have their own roles to play in improving the car’s performance.

This year, Ford will put up for auction another one of its special vehicles to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) youth aviation programs.

The auction will take place at the annual EAA Gathering of Eagles on July 27. This time, the special vehicle that will be put on auction is none other than the F-150 Raptor, which is quite a departure for Ford as they often choose the Mustang to be sold off. Melvin Betancourt, Ford design manager, took inspiration from the famous Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet when he designed the high-performance truck. At the same time, he highlighted the F-150 Raptor's unique style, capabilities, and design.

Not only does this F-150 Raptor look aggressively unique, it also has been given several tweaks on the inside. The truck's performance has been maximized, enabling the 3.5 liter twin-turbo, Whipple inter-cooled V6 engine to produce a total of 545 horsepower, that's 95 hp more than the standard model. Credit goes to the Ford Performance Team for all the work they have put into the Raptor from upgrading the suspension and the brakes, adding a roof mounted light bar to changing the wheels.

The current generation of the Ford Focus will be axed next year as the new-generation 2018 Ford Focus RS will take its place, and this is sort of a good news - bad news situation. The bad news is that CarsDirect disclosed that the next-gen 2018 Focus RS is priced from $41,995- an increase of $5,000 compared to its 2017 model. It costs more than a Mustang GT premium and is priced much higher than the 2017 Honda Civic Type R's expected $35,000 price tag. But on a positive note, the extra $5,000 will give you an extremely well-armed RS.

If the disclosed price is in any way true, it will be $5,000 more expensive than the standard price of the current-gen Focus RS which demands only $36,995 (including $875 for destination cost). This sudden increase in price might seem shocking, but this 2018 Ford Focus will be released as a limited-edition model that will be well-equipped for the new model year. The hot hatch will have the RS2 package, which is set as an option on the current model for an added $2,785.

The package flaunts a heated, leather-bound Recaro seats paired with 8-way power adjustment for the driver, heated exterior mirrors and 3-spoke steering wheel and will also have a voice-activated navigation system. There's more, as there will be a carbon-fiber trim meant for door handles, handbrake lever and the bezel found around the boost gauge.

No matter how much owners of the Land Rover Defender sports utility vehicle want their rides to become less adverse – if not actually friendly – to the environment, they really couldn’t. This is primarily because the Land Rover Defender, in its most eco-friendly form, still emits 266 grams of carbon dioxide to the air for every kilometer it travels (when using the 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine).

Fortunately though, an engineering company lurking within the Coventry neighborhood – yes, the place where Jaguar Land Rover is headquartered – is currently working on a project that should allow the Land Rover to become a bit friendlier to Mother Nature. How? Well, JE Motorworks is trying an engine conversion for the Land Rover Defender, replacing the only available mill for the SUV – the 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with the 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost unit that is fitted on the Ford Mustang and on Ford Focus RS sports models.

While both engines have similar displacements and are four-cylinder units, the EcoBoost unit uses up gasoline (petrol) and the mill on the now discontinued Defender sips on diesel. Comparing their power levels, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine on the Focus RS delivers 350 hp (345 PS or 257 kW) of max output and up to 470 Nm (350 lb.-ft.) of torque. On the other hand, the 2.2-liter diesel mill on the Land Rover Defender churns out 122 PS (90 kW) of max output and 360 Nm of torque. In terms of carbon dioxide emissions, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine returns only 175 g/km on the Ford Focus RS while the 2.2-liter diesel engine emits 266 g/km on the Land Rover Defender 90 (hard top, soft top and pickup).

Before the current generation Ford Focus exits in 2018, the American company hopes to satisfy its fans with its latest offering. This time, everyone is eagerly awaiting Ford Performance’s limited edition 2018 Ford Focus RS which will be released next year. The said performance compact hatchback will cater to Blue Oval hot hatch enthusiasts’ most requested limited-slip front differential and a new red exterior paintjob. Aside from this, the 2018 Ford Focus RS will get additional standard equipment as well as a few touch ups that will definitely set it apart from the standard RS. What remains unchanged, however, is its power (still at 350 horsepower) and the most important part of the RS – the drift button which allows its sideways behavior.

Ford made sure that inputs and feedback from customers and fans are used in the creation of this limited-edition RS. Furthermore, Ford invited a group of enthusiasts for a preview of the 2018 Ford Focus RS and even included them in the launch video. Cool, right? They were in for another treat as professional rally driver and master tire slayer Ken Block guided them through the whole reveal. The launch video is already available online.

In a press release, Ford Performance marketing manager Henry Ford expressed his excitement on the release of this limited-edition Ford Focus RS. To satisfy the high demand for these compact hatchbacks, Ford Performance took time to listen to their customers’ wants and needs. They actually spoke to “owners’ club members”, took time to read comments and suggestions in various enthusiast websites, and also visited and studied several Photoshop rendering forums just to get the gist of what people actually want from the RS.

Ford recently released a recreation of an iconic image that became well-known three decades ago. The only difference is that while the past photo was a Ford RS200 in full police color stopping a Sierra RS Cosworth, the recreated version has the Focus RS in police regalia pulling over what is clearly the classic RS200.

The original photo was, of course, not a real event but more of the publicity-seeking variety. That time, the RS200 was given the color of the Essex Constabulary. While it has been reported that the model was actually used in police work, official proof has yet to be presented.

The possibility of it being true is rather unlikely considering that since the RS200 was made for Group B rallying, police officers, even the most highly trained ones, would have difficulty getting it to its full potential. The engine, which was made by Cosworth, is a turbo 4-cylinder 1.8-liter unit, which can deliver output of as high as 600 hp under the race trim with the road trim offering power of 200 hp, both impressive figures.

Ford Motor Company revealed that with the full-scale production of its 2017 F-150 Raptor scheduled to start, it has begun to receive orders for this latest model at authorized Ford dealerships.

Team Ford in Las Vegas for example, considered as one of the highly successful North American dealers for the Ford Raptor, revealed that even if its waiting list already has almost 300 customers, the dealership continues to receive inquires every day from across the U.S. on how to place orders for the brand’s latest offering. As of the moment, the three largest markets for the F-150 Raptor appear to be California, Florida, and Texas.

Dealership owner Steve Olliges shared that while this situation is indeed a problem, it is a good kind of problem. Though tough, he continued, it is great in the sense that so many are interested in this new model. Currently Team Ford is doing what it can so that customers will be able to get the new Raptor, be it making calls on their behalf to find the model or referring customers to other dealers, Olliges added.

Ford Motor Company has partnered with Foutz Motorsports to make sure that the new 2017 F-150 Raptor is ready to participate in the Baja 1000. However, since the base version is already a competent and excellent off-road vehicle, the race-spec variant no longer needed to undergo a lot of upgrades. Among the few improvements done are the use of LED for the lighting and fitting in a full race harness.

The fuel cell has been made puncture-resistant and it now comes with racing seats and the safety cage. While the shocks and the springs are retained, they have been improved to ensure that they would be able to bear the additional weight due to the installation of the new kit. Much like the base version, it will have the 4-wheel drive system which has a torque-on-demand transfer case. Meanwhile, the wheels will be wrapped with BFGoodrich K02 tires.

A significant change is that the 2017 F-150 now has a Baja Mode. Once this mode has been triggered, it ensures that the gear shifts are faster with the throttle response being sharpened.

Ford will offer to its all new Ford Focus RS customers the option to avail of a fully certified winter tire kit to fully utilize the powerful 350 HP all-wheel drive car even in the snow. It would be the first time in North America that an original equipment manufacturer is offering a winter tire option.

According to Adam Wirth, chassis supervisor of Ford Performance, the company is offering this winter set option as a response to an acknowledged customer demand. With the Focus RS Winter Wheel & Tire Package installed, RS customers may continue the pleasure of driving their performance all-wheel drive car even in brutal winter conditions.

Previously, only the testing procedures for normal production wheels and tires require certification while there seems to be no standards in place for the testing of winter-only wheels and tires. To address this lack, Ford pioneered its own new set of standards for winter equipment that are best suited to face harsh winter conditions.

Market response to the new Focus RS from American car maker Ford has gone up to a new level. This is because up to 1,500 car aficionados in the United Kingdom have pre-ordered the car even before the manufacturer has to commence test driving on the new model.

In fact, 500 fans have made their first deposits to Ford to reserve a Focus RS unit during the Frankfurt Show last month. This was also before Ford has made public the technical specifications as well as the pricing for the new car.

A further 1,000 pre-orders were recorded by various Ford dealers in the UK after the 500 reservations during the Frankfurt Show. The Focus RS will begin delivery in the coming Spring. According to Ford of Britain’s chairman and managing director Andy Barratt, the first queue of 500 prospective buyers have been very specific with what they want for their cars.

Meet Ford’s fastest-accelerating RS model yet – the 2016 Ford Focus RS. The Focus RS is powered by an engineered version of the carmaker’s new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that develops 350 hp of output and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing the high-performance hatchback to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 165 mph.

The sprinting power of the new Focus RS is thanks to the installation of a launch control technology. This launch control feature configures the vehicle’s chassis and powertrain systems to allow the car to achieve the fastest possible acceleration.

A driver just has to choose launch control from the cluster menu, then engage the first gear, apply full throttle and then release the clutch. A driver will have to leave the rest to launch control, which boasts of functions that include distribution of torque through the all-wheel-drive system and maintenance of maximum torque through the turbo overboost function.

Ford is planning to launch a global version of the high-performance all-wheel-drive Focus RS next year possibly as a MY2017. The RS will be slotted just above the performance-oriented front-wheel-drive Focus ST, which will still be produced even with the arrival of the new model in North America.

According to Ford, the RS will be powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine that provides over 315 hp of output and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that transmits power to all four wheels via a new AWD system.

This system features two sets of electronically controlled clutches, which constantly send power to the wheels as demanded by driving conditions. The previous versions of the Focus RS were produced in 2002 and 2009, and were only sold in Europe and Australia.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 2016 Ford Focus RS, the newest hot hatch from the American manufacturer which promises to bring some headaches to the competition. The new Focus RS is powered by the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine found on the 2015 Mustang, which delivers more than 315 hp.

Ford didn’t offer any details regarding the maximum torque delivered by the engine, but taking in consideration that the six-speed manual gearbox was updated in order to be able to handle the additional torque, we expect to see more than the Mustang’s 422 Nm (320 lb-ft). What’s more interesting is that the power is delivered to an all-wheel drive system with Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control.

According to the press release, the Ford Performance All-Wheel-Drive system is based on twin electronically controlled clutch packs on each side of the rear drive unit.
