Ford have recently been dropping hints about a new Ford Fusion, and what I mean is that they will soon reveal the redesigned sedan for 2020. But even before this, they are already considering a minor upgrade for the mid-sized 2019 model year. Some of the more noticeable upgrades include visual cues on the outside like a new grille and LED driving lamps up front, as well as a new trunk lid panel and LED tail lights in the rear.
As for technology, the Ford Fusion has now been given Ford’s driver assist systems, which they had just rebranded as Co-Pilot360 earlier this month. Now, this comes standard throughout the Fusion line.
Having said that, even the base model Fusion S will be equipped with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, auto high-beam headlights, and a rear backup camera. If you want to opt for something more premium, then there is also the Co-Pilot360 Assist. This adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, voice activated navigation with Sirius XM Traffic and Travel Link.Read the entire article 2019 Ford Fusion Facelift is not sleeker than its predecessor
The Fusion is Ford Motor Co.’s mid-size five-passenger four-door sedan. In 2017, it has been reported that 209,623 units of this model have been sold. While this means that the Fusion is the brand’s best-selling model in the U.S., it may not be enough.
According to the Detroit News, Ford will not only be cancelling the redesign program of the Fusion but will also be reevaluating the midsize sedan’s future. Such actions are seen to be among the changes that CEO Jim Hackett, appointed in May 2017, will be bringing to the table.
The news of the cancellation of the North American redesign program of the 2020 Fusion, dubbed as the CD542N, was revealed by the Detroit News to come from a letter sent to a supplier back in November. Although this does not mean that Ford will be surely terminating the Fusion badge, it does put in limbo any other plans for the segment.Read the entire article Ford cancels redesign plans for Fusion, reports say
Ford has just stepped up its game by electrifying its models for the police, fire and government market. This special edition model of the Fusion Energi, which is officially known as the Special Service Plug-In Hybrid Sedan. Though this model was not made for pursuits, the four-door vehicle can cover as far as 500 miles (805 kilometers), including 21 miles (34 kilometers) that’s propelled by electric power alone.
According to Ford, they believe that this sort of setup is perfect for officials like detectives, police and fire chiefs. This model will be up for grabs starting December this year, but deliveries will not begin until summer 2018.
What powers the Special Service Plug-in Hybrid is the same battery that they use in the Standard Fusion Energi, and that is a 7.6 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery that can be charged on a level-two 240 volt charger in just two and a half hours, or a conventional 110 volt outlet for 7 hours.Read the entire article Sales begin in December for Ford Special Service Plug-In Hybrid Sedan built for the Police force
What would you do if the car you had just purchased from the dealership came with a huge package of marijuana? Well, if you recently got yourself a Ford Fusion, you might want to check out the truck before you get yourself in trouble. This is because several Fusions have been filled with packages of marijuana. Is this the new definition of a “green” car?
According to CNN, all fifteen cars that were found with packages of weed came from the Ohio dealership, and these cars came from one location - Ford’s manufacturing plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The plant is about three hours away from Ohio and the cars have all been shipped out to the United States via train to a CSX rail yard in Ohio. These cars were then put into trucks before heading to dealerships.
The most unusual thing here is that the marijuana was not found loosely lying on the car’s trunk. Instead, they were neatly packed in half-moon shaped packages, which had been perfectly fitted in the Fusion’s spare tire wells. Now, if you are familiar with this car’s spare tire well, you would know that it contains a lot of space. Believe it or not, each marijuana package weighed 32 pounds. As there were fifteen cars found with the package, that is a lot of weed. In fact, all of it has an estimate price of about a million dollars. So whoever missed the pickup is not only in big trouble, he also owes the unknown recipient a lot of money.Read the entire article Probe begins over $1 million worth of marijuana found in 15 new Ford Fusions
Most people in the US have experienced the difficulty of driving in snow in one way or another. It has been a constant challenge because the roads become slippery and road visibility is often an obstacle. In line with this, self-driving vehicles need to be able to navigate through the roads during winter better than present models.
Ford, for example, has disclosed six facts about its self-driving technology that will enable vehicles to brave through the snow conveniently. Ford has built high-resolution 3D maps that will scan the area thoroughly before driving through it.
Ford Fusion Hybrid self-driving cars come with LiDAR technology to first create digital maps of the area where the cars will be driven. Using four LiDAR scanners that yield 2.80 million laser points per second, the vehicle will create digital models of the road and the infrastructures that surround it. The map will then serve as a baseline to identify the position of the vehicle when it is in self-driving mode.Read the entire article Ford Fusion Hybrid’s self-driving technology is crafted to combat winter obstacles
This year’s iteration of the NASCAR Fusion will be competing for the first time in February at Daytona Speedweeks. Ford has been aggressively preparing its racing vehicle for the major event. Memories come to mind of the same preparations by Ford three years ago.
After NASCAR gave the go-ahead for car makers to create racing cars that are customized according to what characteristics the auto companies want to infuse in them, Ford wasted no time in mobilizing its designers to create a racing version of that model year’s Ford Fusion.
How does the new Fusion race car differ from the production counterpart? By looks alone, both cars look the same but the difference is felt when entering the car. As mandated by the rules of this year’s NASCAR season, a new digital dashboard system will display information to the racing teams through various graphical representations such as bar graphics, numbers or an electronic gauge-and-needle display.Read the entire article Ford debuts new NASCAR Fusion, to race for first time on February 21st
Ford has unveiled new versions of its ever popular Ford Fusion mid-size sedan – all embedded with advanced technologies designed to deliver what customers want and need. Ford's Fusion lineup now includes the Fusion V6 Sport, the Fusion Platinum, Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid.
Fusion V6 Sport is Ford's V6-powered performance sedan. At the core of the all-wheel drive Fusion V6 Sport is a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that develops up to 325 horsepower of output and 350 lb.-ft. of torque – which is around 50 hp and 100 lb.-ft. more powerful than the 3.5-liter V6 engines that power the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
Fusion V6 Sport is also available with continuously controlled damping, thereby allowing for real-time suspension tuning according to setup and road inputs. Moreover, the Fusion V6 Sport comes laden with pothole detection technology, which quickly and appropriately makes certain adjustments to the vehicle's shock absorbers in order to reduce the severity of impact, thereby any bumps on the road would not be felt by occupants.Read the entire article 2017 Ford Fusion Sport breaks cover at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Ford Motor Co. posted record sales of its Fusion sedan in the United States in March, when incentives for the model were hiked 32 percent to compete better against its rivals in the family-car market. According to Erich Merkle, Ford's sales analyst, Fusion sales in March 2014 topped the previous record of 30,284 sold in March 2013, making the second time the carmaker has sold over 30,000 Fusions in a month.
The Fusion is Ford’s primary challenger to reclaim the US car-sales crown from Toyota, which Camry model has been the king of car sales in the country for the last 12 years. In 2013, Fusion was behind the Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima in terms of sales among mid-size sedans. Merkle described the rivalry in the segment as “hand-to-hand combat.”
Ford increased incentives on the Fusion by $770 to an average $3,160 per model, which according to Merkle was still $80 below the average discount in the mid-sized car category. Despite the increased incentive, the Fusion still carries an average price of around $23,500 – higher than the Camry. He noted that Fusion's average price in March was lower from last year.Read the entire article Ford Fusion sales in the US hits new record in March 2014
Ford Motor Co. is offering increased incentives on its Fusion sedan to help clear out the rising inventories. Ford is now offering the Fusion with zero-percent financing for 60 months plus $1,000 cash back. Ford is likewise offering leases with no money due at signing and no first payment; or discounts of up to $3,000 for buyers who refuse the financing and make a trade-in.
According to dealers and analysts, Ford’s latest offers are the most generous deals on the Fusion since the current generation was rolled out in 2012. "The car is selling, but not as fast as they're building them," said Larry Taylor, owner of Beau Townsend Ford in Vandalia, Ohio. "They've buried us."
Taylor remarked that he has sold only 17 units so far this month, and still has 90 on his lot. In addition, the dealership will receive 100 in the near future. Ford had a 97-day supply of the Fusion as of Feb. 1, up from 84 days as of Jan. 1, according to the Automotive News Data Center.Read the entire article Ford is expanding Fusion incentives to clear out inventories
The Ford brand will sell over 2.4 million vehicles in the United States in 2013, making it the top -selling marque in the country for four straight years. The brand’s Fusion sedan and hybrid models helped it extends its lead over the Toyota brand. The Ford brand went into December leading against the Toyota marque by 388,825 cars and light trucks, already ahead of the full-year 2012 count pegged at 322,521.
Ford’s dominance in the US reflects the strategy formulated by Ford Motor Co. chief executive Alan Mulally that sees American carmaker flourishing by narrowing its focus. Mulally sold off the Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Volvo luxury lines and terminated Mercury while pushing the Ford brand to complement its strengths in pickups and SUVs with more competitive cars.
“We are not overly reliant on any one segment,” John Felice, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, remarked in a statement, noting that 16 launches lined up this year, the carmaker is seeking to keep its sales momentum going. Ford said that the demand for Fusions and hybrids like the C-Max will help increase Ford-brand sales to retail buyers to the highest levels since 2000.Read the entire article Fusion, hybrid models helped Ford widen US sales lead over Toyota
Driverless or automated vehicles are slowly gaining the attention of carmakers. This time, Ford Motor Co. joins the list of carmakers developing driverless vehicles. Ford disclosed a partnership with the University of Michigan and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. to test how driverless technology can be applied to cut congestion and improve traffic safety.
Ford is using a Fusion Hybrid sedan to test its automated driving technology. The vehicle, recently unveiled in Dearborn, is able to drive itself and will be used for testing. Ford's goal is to advance the technology so that it can be fitted in mainstream vehicles by 2025. Earlier this year, Renault-Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn said that they are planning to have driverless cars available by 2020.
Robert Bosch GmbH is also developing a set of technologies for automated driving, but remarked that the technology must be “100-percent safe 100 percent of the time” before it can be marketed. Right now, some of the first features of driverless cars can be found on the road, although they gained quite different receptions. For instance, Toyota’s Lexus division offered an automated parking system in 2006, but later dropped the option due to slow sales.Read the entire article Ford eyes driverless vehicles on the road by 2025, shows automated Fusion Hybrid
Ford used to find it difficult to crack the consumer base in Miami that prefers Japanese carmakers like Toyota and Honda -- until the Fusion gave the carmaker the chance to break the wall. The Fusion has already been etching a name in the heartland before it went coastal, and is now hitting a milestone in Miami, a city where Detroit vehicles used to be a hard sell.
Ford posted a 62-percent rise in Fusion sales in Miami in October 2013. The Detroit carmaker also more than doubled its sales in New York and San Francisco in the month, while surging 77 percent in Los Angeles.
Ford dealer Victor Benitez is now having a hard time keeping up with demand for the Fusion sedan. He remarked to Bloomberg that Miami is a "very hip market where people want to be driving the latest and the best." He said that the Fusion not only "performs well, but it looks good." Benitez has seen sales more than double at his two Ford stores this year.Read the entire article Ford finally penetrates US coastal markets with Fusion
Ford Motor Co. and Coca-Cola Co. are collaborating to outfit a Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid sedan with fabric made of the same plant-based and renewable material found in the beverage maker’s bottles. Using Coca-Cola’s technology, Ford managed to create the first-ever automotive fabrics that are made of 30 percent plant material.
The new fabric was used on the seat cushions, seat backs, head restraints, door panel inserts and headliners. This will be the first time that the material is used for purposes other than packaging. Coca-Cola introduced the trademarked PlantBottle Technology to market in 2009, making the beverage firm the first to produce a bottle partially made up of plant materials.
This technology replaced polyethylene terephthalate, which a petroleum-based polymer used in plastic bottles as well as fabrics and carpets.Read the entire article Ford and Coca-Cola team up to use PlantBottle Technology on Fusion Energi interior
Ford will be introducing 57 vehicles at the 2013 SEMA Show, including several versions of the 2014 Ford Fusion. The latest custom vehicles to be presented are the 2014 Ford Fusion from Full-Race Motorsports and the 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium from DSO Eyewear. Full-Race Motorsports boosted the output of the standard 240-horsepower four-cylinder power plant on the 2014 Fusion SE sedan to an amazing 400 hp by replacing the stock turbocharger with a bigger one from Borg Warner.
It also put in a cat-back exhaust and cold-air intake system. The performance specialists based in Phoenix also tweaked the Fusion to get bigger brakes, 21-inch wheels, lower suspension and custom grille and body panels.
It received custom leather seats by Katzkin and a 7-inch Android-based touchscreen tablet was placed in the dash. What DSO Eyewear did with 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium edition was very different. It now looks like "a black tie-ready Fusion with gold bling,” according to Ford. This tuxedo-black sedan with gold trim benefited from several improvements to its powertrain. It is equipped with a Banks Power straight-shot water-methanol injection system and an iQ Man Machine Interface.Read the entire article 2013 SEMA Preview: 2014 Ford Fusion by Full-Race Motorsports
The finalized fuel economy ratings for the 2014 Ford Fusion’s turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder have been released and can be seen at the EPA’s fueleconomy.gov website. Joe Bakaj, Ford’s vice president of powertrain engineering, said about five months ago that the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost is expected to offer the same power as the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, while offering better fuel economy.
Several weeks later, Ford released details about the Fusion-grade EcoBoost 1.5, which has a rating of 178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. This isn’t much different from the output of the EcoBoost 1.6L of 178 hp and 184 lb-ft. Sad to say, Ford failed to deliver its second promise on the 2014 Ford Fusion with the 1.5L EcoBoost.
The EPA said that a front-wheel drive 2014 Fusion SE powered by the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost and a six-speed automatic offers 23 mpg on the agency’s city test cycle, and 36 mpg on the highway. That 23/36 rating is capable of meeting but not surpassing the rating for the comparably-equipped 2013 Fusion that uses the 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4.Read the entire article 2014 Ford Fusion SE 1.5 EcoBoost rated by EPA at 36 mpg on the highway
Ford Fusion owners could now avail of Official Ford-licensed body kit and a rear wing from 3dCarbon directly from their dealers. As of September 1, 2013, Fusion owners could endow their own units with a sense of personal identity and style. 3dCarbon’s Official Ford Licensed Accessories provide refined accents for the Fusion, aligning it with the original styling direction.
While 3dCarbon’s styling enhancement renders the overall Fusion design theme intact, it makes the sedan looking bolder and slightly more aggressive compared with the Fusions that came straight from Ford’s assembly lines.
3dCarbon’s styling enhancement for the Fusion was achieved without having to resort to current design trends. Just like the Titanium package Eco Boost models, Fusions with the 3dCarbon body kit also don a dual exhaust port with stainless steel surrounds attached into the rear bumper.Read the entire article 3dCarbon is offering body kits for 2013 Ford Fusion
Toyota Motor Corp.'s Camry is the current leader is the race for the best-selling car crown in the United States. Ford Motor Co., however, is not taking chances as it braces to challenge the Camry’s dominance with its Fusion offering. Although the Fusion is being sold at around $2,300 higher than the Camry, Ford’s unit continues to eat away it rival’s sales lead, thanks to increasing demand for the American offering.
To cater to that surging demand, Ford has to increase the supply of the Fusion. The US carmaker is already preparing for that, as its assembly plant around 20 miles south of its headquarters in suburban Detroit will soon roll out Fusions from its production lines. But many do wonder if the increase in supply of the Fusion would lead to a decrease in price.
Alec Gutierrez, an analyst with Kelley Blue Book, told Bloomberg in a phone interview that Ford has managed to be a volume player competitive with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord while maintaining “a far more competitive price point.”Read the entire article Ford is ramping up Fusion output to cater to demand
Ford Motor Co. is providing more training to its workers at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant before launching the 2014 Fusion, to prevent further botched launches. Ford has employed around 1,400 workers for the Fusion output, many of them having no manufacturing experience. Ford has been training about 150 new workers every week since April.
The workers are made to undergo a five-day, hands-on factory simulation course designed to enable them to handle basic tasks like installation of electrical connectors, engine build-up and installation of brake lines and radiator hoses. Workers train at 10 stations during an eight-hour day in the program.
Workers also learn to read operator instruction sheets. In the past, workers just underwent classroom training and then went straight to the assembly line, where they learn more with an experienced colleague in a system called "buddy up." The Flat Rock site is the second Ford plant to use the hands-on factory simulation program.Read the entire article Ford is holding simulation training to new Flat Rock hires before launching the 2014 Fusion
2013 Ford Fusion mid-sized sedan received both praises and criticism from consumer-product magazine Consumer Reports after buying and testing three versions of the Fusion. After conducting tests on the three Fusion versions -- an SE model with a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine; an SE Hybrid; and a high-end Titanium model with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine – Consumer Reports praised the mid-sized sedan for its handling and sportiness.
The magazine, however, criticized the Fusion as having poor fit and finish as well as having a fuel economy that is well below what is claimed. According to the magazine, the 2013 Fusion holds onto corners “with quick, decisive” turn-in response and “well-controlled body lean." Consumer Reports also noted that the mid-sized sedan’s steering is ideally weighted, “with reassuring road feel."
The magazine said that all three Fusions that were tested "proved enjoyable, balanced, and predictable” at their handling limits.Read the entire article 2013 Ford Fusion receives mixed reviews from Consumer Reports
Ford said that the 2013 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric sedan is capable of travelling 21 miles on electric-only power and could achieve 620 miles on a full charge and full tank of gas, comparable to what a diesel engine can achieve. Ford has been slowly releasing information about the PHEV. So far, we know that the Fusion Energi has a rating of 100 MPGe combined, making it superior to both the Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius Plug-In.
However, it’s below the 115-MPGe Honda Accord Plug-In. The Fusion Energi offers 21 miles of battery-boosted power, making it better than all of its competitors except the Volt.
The Volt is rated for 38 miles of electric power. But the Fusion, as well as its C-Max Energi mechanical twin, has a 620-mile range on a full battery and tank of gas. This figure means that it can go 46 miles farther than the Accord, which has a rating of 574 miles. Of the plug-ins, the Fusion is the most powerful, producing 195 hp compared to the Volt’s output of 150 hp and the Pruis’ 134hp.Read the entire article 2013 Ford Fusion Energi capable to deliver a 620-Mile range
