Ford releases upscale Vignale versions of Edge and Kuga in Europe

Ford revealed that the luxury versions of its Edge and Kuga SUVs are expected to hit the different European markets. Under the Vignale lineup, Ford is more than determined to entice customers to shy away from choosing the standard premium brands. In order to achieve this goal, the brand will be offering both the Edge and the Kuga under exclusive specifications that make use of materials having high quality. Examples of these, to name a few, are the unique colors for the exterior, the use of the Windsor tuxedo-stitched leather for the interior, and the upscale detailing. Ford will even be offering a grille that comes in a hexagonal design and that are exclusive for the Vignale range.

In terms of power delivery, the Kuga Vignale will offer the EcoBoost 1.5-liter petrol engine with one version capable of delivering output of 150 PS (148 hp) and the second having output of 182 PS (179 hp). The latter engine though will be paired solely with the AWD and the automatic 6-speed transmission. Offered as well are the TDCi 2.0-liter diesel engine with one displaying an output of 150 PS (148 hp) and the other 180 PS (177 hp). Unlike the petrol engine, both diesel units are offered, as an option, the AWD and automatic 6-speed transmission. Meanwhile the Edge Vignale will have two powertrains, both powered by diesel. The first is the TDCi 2.0-liter engine with output of 177 hp and paired to the manual 6-speed transmission. Meanwhile the second unit is the TDCi 1.0-liter twin-turbo engine having an output of 207 hp and coupled with the brand’s very own automatic Powershift twin-clutch transmission.

In terms of size, the Edge is larger when compared to the Kuga and some features include alloy 19-inch wheels polished in aluminum, the front grille having a dark matter finish, and the fog lamps finished in chrome. Similar to the Kuga, customers can select for the Edge a wide range of distinct colors for the exterior with one of them being the Vignale Ametista Scura, which is a rich metallic brown tint.

Ford’s Kuga Vignale Concept hints at brand’s upscale SUV plans in Europe

Ford offered us a glimpse of what the company’s future top-end SUVs could look like with its recently unveiled Ford Kuga concept seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Ford’s Kuga Vignale Concept dazzled the European audience with its Vignale Palazzo Pearl exterior with a tarnished dark paint finish for the front and rear skid plates, foglamp surrounds and door appliqués while the car’s grille and foglamp inserts done in gloss black.

A suede look was pulled off by the window pillar interiors and headliner enriched with Alcantara material while an Opale dark grey pearl-effect finish was applied to the car’s centre console. In addition, its armrest storage console and glove box had been lined with flock, highlighting the SUV’s premium quality. Historically, Ford Kuga customers always preferred the higher end variant of the car, with a recorded 4 in 5 of the 102,000 Kugas sold in 2015 being Titanium models.

According to industry sales analyst IHS, the trend for this luxury preference could increase to 27 percent of all vehicle sales in Europe by 2020. This is a big jump from the recorded 20 percent luxury variants sold in 2014. Ford Europe VP for Marketing Sales and Service Roelant de Waard said that the Ford Kuga Vignale Concept is meant to meet the growing customer preference for luxury SUVs.

2013 Ford Kuga at Geneva Auto Show boasts technological upgrades

Ford has unveiled its latest Kuga model at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, featuring new technologies, and stylish and spacious design. Building on the huge success of the current model, the Kuga on display boasts of technological improvements that include hands-free automatic tailgate that can be opened and closed by just sweeping a foot under the rear bumper.

The new Kuga model will also be bestowed with advanced voice control, device integration and connectivity interface SYNC. The car on display also features the Emergency Assistance, which deploys the airbag or activates the emergency fuel shut-off. It uses the on board GPS locator and Bluetooth-paired device to set up an emergency call and provide GPS coordinates for the emergency response. Another plus is that the local language may be used in the call.

Ford also bestowed upon the new Kuga a variety of driver assistance technologies that includes the parallel parking aid Active Park Assist, and sensor-based Blind Spot Information System, which gives a warning via a light in the door mirror that a possible danger is in the driver's blind spot.  Drivers could also fold flat the rear seats at a touch of a button. The new Kuga offers 82-litres more boot-space than the current one.

Opening the boot of the all-new Kuga from Ford Motor Company is easy with its new hands-free tailgate. Accessing the hood is an experience in itself. Many Kuga consumers would appreciate the hands-free system since they don’t have to put down their loads or other packages. The hands-free system enables Kuga customers to gently kick a foot beneath the rear bumper to open and close the tailgate without setting aside packages or other loads.

To open and close the tailgate, all that consumers have to do is to gently kick a foot beneath the rear bumper. However, they’d still need to have the key on them whether in their pocket or handbag.

Dominik Nical, security electronics expert, Ford of Europe, said that this is a “perfect example” of the role of current technology to boost its customer’s experience with Ford vehicles. He also believes that this “solution” will be effective in addressing a common problem. It took the development team six months to work with Ford’s Human Machine Interface laboratory. Interference with other systems was avoided.

To raise sales in China, Ford Motor Co. will build the next-generation Kuga compact sport-utility vehicle in the country. Ford also plans to increase marketing spending to boost sales.

At the Shanghai auto show, Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president for global marketing, sales and service, said that Ford wants to ensure that what it spends on advertising “is high enough as a percentage of [its] revenue.” However, he declined to give an exact figure.

The Kuga, a C-segment or compact vehicle, is included in Ford’s plans to present 15 models in China by 2015. Ford also wants to double the number of dealerships to 680 as part of a plan to compete with market leaders -- General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG.

Ford’s chief Alan Mulally confirmed the fact that the Vertrek Concept, unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, will definitely give the company a great opportunity to unify its two C-segment SUVs, the Kuga and Escape, according to Autocar.

Set to make its debut in mid to late 2012 the new Kuga/Escape will carry the design seen on the Vertrek Concept, but don’t be too disappointed when you will not see the glass roof and when you will see that the car will feature a centre pillar and a simpler design for the front grille and sills.

In the concept form, the car is powered by a highly efficient new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine from the global Ford EcoBoost family, which means the Vertrek has the power of a larger-displacement powerplant but delivers significantly better fuel economy and CO2 emissions. The engine is mated to a new fuel-saving Ford Auto Start-Stop technology.

A Ford Motor Co. source told Automotive News Europe that at the Detroit Auto Show, the company will launch a near-production concept of a medium SUV to replace the Kuga in Europe and Escape in the United States.

The source said the new-generation SUV will go into production in the second half of 2012 and will be sold as a 2013 model in the United States.

Ford has not decided whether the Escape or Kuga will keep their names or they will share a common badge when the SUVs arrive. Under the carmaker's One Ford strategy, a single name will be used for vehicles sold in different regions, like the Focus and the Fiesta.

Ford is scheduled to inflate the attractiveness of the well-known Kuga crossover with the addition of three fresh variants giving lower CO2, automatic transmission, and greater potency and torque. Preserving the design and modification of the current Kuga 2.0-liter TDCi, but with a CO2 yield of just 159g/km, the new front-wheel-drive variant provides both improved fuel efficiency and business users will enjoy some cost benefits.

As regulations are altered in April 2009, the Ford Kuga 2WD will especially benefit business customers who will be entitled to a 20 per cent annual discount against Corporation Tax for a vehicle with less than 160g/km CO2 (in contrast to 10 per cent over 160g/km). Buyers will also benefit from the model's enhanced fuel cost-effectiveness as it goes down into the new under-160g/km banding for Vehicle Excise Duty.

New performance lead vehicles were also added by Ford, mating intelligent AWD with the highly praised 2.5-liter Duratec powerhouse utilized in the Focus ST, Mondeo and S-MAX.
