2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon ‘unminivan’ proves to be quite popular

The long-wheelbase, seven-seat version of the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon accounted for around 85 percent of Wagon sales in July. The short- and long-wheelbase versions now have combined average of around 34 percent of total Transit Connect sales, including the cargo van – compared to just a 13-percent Wagon mix with the previous generation.

Ford also posted a 42-percent jump in total Transit Connect sales in July to 4,090 unit, marking the best July ever for the nameplate. While the long-wheelbase version of the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon features seven seats and sliding door, the carmaker is not marketing it as a minivan.

It even carried the hashtag “#unminivan” and was featured in a marketing scheme based mostly on social media like Twitter and Facebook.

Ford is set to go global and will begin to sell the Ford Transit Connect Taxi in Hong Kong early next year. A liquefied petroleum gas fuel system created by Ford will be featured on these New Transit Connect vehicles sold in Hong Kong. This system takes advantage of the well-established LPG infrastructure in the country.

This feature is offered on the vehicles available in the U.S. as an option. Ford truck communications manager Mike Levine said that since 2010, Ford has made this option available for the Transit Connect models.

These vehicles can be equipped with a fuel system that can run on compressed natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas. For the U.S. market, the 2014 model is offered with a $300 factory-installed engine prep package that permits the vehicle to endure the requirements of CNG/LPG fuel.

Ford has unveiled the 2014 Transit Connect Taxi, which the carmaker says will be the only taxi to offer an engine prep package for conversion to compressed natural gas/liquefied petroleum gas. The 2014 Transit Connect Taxi boasts of an additional interior space that could be used for cargo or a CNG/LPG tank. The taxi is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

It is available with a $300 factory-installed engine prep package that allows it to run on CNG/LPG fuel before it is converted under Ford’s Qualified Vehicle Modifier program, which has members certified by the carmaker to modify vehicles without affecting the factory-set calibrations, according to a Ford spokesman.

Tim Stoehr, commercial truck marketing manager for Ford, said in a statement that they are leveraging their “longtime leadership and expertise in the North American taxi market” to ensure that the Transit Connect Taxi surpasses the expectations of taxi operators and passengers.

Ford has built an all-new 2014 Transit Connect Wagon sleigh especially for Santa Claus. Ford has plenty of presents to give to nice kids all across the world so to get to all of them, he requires a new sleigh with maximum fuel economy and cargo space for the efficient delivery of all the presents. This concept sleigh is based on Ford’s Transit Connect Wagon.

It is powered by EcoBoost, which provides a rating of more than 30 mpg and a per gallon (ppg) cargo rating that leads the industry. As an additional benefit, the EcoBoost engine, which has been given fine tuning to achieve high-speed performance, would make Santa reach speeds much faster than his previous 36hp sleigh.

Santa Claus even released a statement about his new ride. He asserts that he will stay true to his mission to give presents to “good girls and boys” and that with this new sleigh, the process will be more efficient. Engineers at Ford started to develop the Transit Connect Wagon sleigh concept just a few weeks after it heard of Santa’s predicament during cold-weather testing in the North Pole.

Ford introduced the compact 2014 Transit Connect Van together with the big Transit. A refresh was expected since the original Transit Connect was launched in the U.S. three years ago and since 2002, the model had been sold in Europe. Ford revealed that it will be available in two wheelbases, measuring 104 inches and 121 inches, leading to cargo capacities of 105 or 130 cubic feet, respectively.

It is built on Ford’s C1 platform, which includes parts used on cars such as the Escape, C-Max, and Focus. Many tie-downs and cargo hooks are used on the rubberized cargo floor. Ford offers the option of a divider between the two front seats and the cargo area. This feature is expected to be very popular. What’s different from the last Transit Connect is that buyers can opt for either a traditional center-opening rear doors or a crossover-style liftgate. Its dashboard and door plastics are tougher compared to those found in regular Ford passenger cars.

These are more durable and can withstand years of delivery usage but they have a cheap look. It offers more storage with its “aircraft-style” overhead bins. Ford offers the 2.5-liter inline-four as the base engine. Stepping up, it offers the 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four, which can return better than 30 mpg on the highway. These two engines are partnered to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The pricing on the new Ford Transit Connect Wagon hasn’t been announced yet but it’s believed to be competitive. The Transit Connect Wagon, a minivan by another name, is built on the platform that’s also used by the Ford Focus and Escape. It is powered by the same 4-cylinder engines. Since there’s no rival in the minivan segment, Ford offers the C-Max in only the hybrid form.

The retrofitted commercial vehicle serves two purposes as it’s also a carrier for people. Ford hopes to provide the best fuel economy rating in its class. The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder delivers 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque while the optional EcoBoost 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder produces 173 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The two engines will exclusively come with a 6-speed automatic.

Even if it’s a distinctly European-styled vehicle, it’s not available with a manual transmission. It can seat seven people. The second and third rows can be folded totally flat while the two third row seats can be independently shifted forwards and back by 5-inches. It is a utilitarian vehicle in basic trim. The Ford XL, XLT and Titanium model will be offered with top options such as a panoramic glass roof, MyFord Touch, a rear-view camera and a 6.5-inch touch screen.

Ford has revealed more details about the passenger-friendly, U.S.-spec 2014 Transit Connect Wagon. Ford had introduced the new 2014 Ford Transit Connect at its global product roll-out in September. Ford had already offered a five-passenger Transit Connect Wagon in the market but because of its limited seating and bare-bones interior, it didn’t appeal to small families and would be more suited to small businesses.

For example, its cargo area didn’t have panelling or insulation. To remedy that, Ford gave the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon a fully-trimmed interior and a third row of seating. This enabled Ford to create another niche for its small van offering. Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s vice president of global product development and engineering, released a prepared statement.

He said that the target market of the new Transit Connect Wagon is made wider since it now offers a seven-passenger capacity with its three rows of seating in a fully-trimmed interior. It has become a modern, family-friendly alternative to oversized minivans with its broad selection of comfort, convenience, and connectivity options. Ford has released pres materials to show that the New Transit Connect’s interior is as “attractive, modern, and consumer-friendly as its car-like exterior.”

The Ford Transit Connect Taxi will start to be seen on the streets of New York later in the summer. The New York Taxi and Limousine Commission gave its approval at a public hearing for the version of Ford's Transit Connect van for taxi use.

Last May, Nissan was awarded a 10-year contract for its NV200 van to serve as the official New York City taxi starting in 2013. The other companies that wanted this 13,000-vehicle deal were Ford and Turkish automaker Karsan Otomotiv.

In Ford’s bid, it proposed the use of the Transit Connect Taxi as the exclusive New York taxi. Commission spokesman Allan Fromberg said that upon the realization that 60% of the New York taxi fleet was composed of the aging Ford Crown Victoria, it decided to approve other vehicles that meet interim "specifications to bridge the gap" until the arrival of the NV200. The Nissan Altima also received approval to supply a part of the interim taxi fleet.

Just because Ford canceled a plan to build the seven-passenger Focus minivan, it doesn’t have to mean that it has totally given up on the chance of offering a three-row compact minivan.

Last week, Ford announced that as the market is concerned about fuel economy, it will soon present the Focus C-Max hybrid and the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid. These two vehicles are five-door hatchbacks.

Ford also said that the seven-passenger minivan, which will share the C-Max name and which is slated to be start selling in 2012, won’t be available in the U.S.

Both models go into production late this year.

Assembled in Turkey, the Transit Connect is a compact, front-wheel-drive van and is one of four electrified vehicles Ford will introduce over the next two years.

One week prior to its unveiling at the New York Auto Show, Ford is taking the wraps off around its Transit Connect Family One Concept. The concept vehicle, which is smaller than a classic minivan and therefore less expensive and more efficient, brings with it more space than standard hatch or wagon. The pricing for the vehicle, which begins at $21,475, is targeted at commercial applications and will hit United States markets early in 2010.

This will make the up-featured Ford Transit Connect Family One Concept still priced way below $30,000. The Family One, which is a five-seater and equipped with 135 cubic feet of cargo space, comes with a fuel consumption rating of 22 mpg on the city and 25 mpg on the highway driving. The design of the vehicle is focused on both kids and parents and will be both engaging and entertaining no matter whether it is parked or mobile.

The Ford Transit Connect Family One Concept is based on the Ford Transit Connect, which is essentially a global Ford platform that could be adapted to a wide variety of applications, both for personal and professional. This Family One Concept demonstrates the carmaker first effort in showcasing the versatile Transit Connect as a vehicle that could be employed for personal use.
