BMW will halt production of gasoline-powered 7 Series

With all the issues going around the automotive industry, car makers have to be more mindful of their moves, especially when it comes to the development and production of cars.

Like now, European spec cars had just been given a new set of requirements, and this will mean a production shutdown for BMW’s flagship 7 Series sedan for an entire year. To be more specific, this shutdown really only affects gas powered vehicles, and diesel engine will still be produced. This is quite an odd thing considering that diesel variants have a reputation of being the more polluted engines, especially with the Volkswagen’s Dieselgate scandal.

The decision to shut down engines began when the new requirements of the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (also known as WLTP) were implemented. These rules began in 2017 after new forms of emissions testing has been done, and apparently, these are a better way to measure vehicle emission in real world driving.

2017 Skoda Octavia will feature VW's turbocharged 1.5-liter TSI Evo engine

Soon, we will be able see VW Group's new frugal turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine underneath the hood of the 2017 Skoda Octavia facelift. This engine – the 1.5-liter TSI Evo powerplant --will be one of the five available engines for the 2017 Skoda Octavia Facelift.

When Skoda announced the face-lifted version of the Octavia in October 2016, it also disclosed that its power will be sourced from four available engines – two petrol and two diesel engines – in the United Kingdom. The petrol engines include a 1.0 TSI that delivers 115 PS and a 1.4 TSI that provides up to 150 PS. Meanwhile the diesel powerplants include a 1.6 TDI that generates 115 PS and a 2.0 TDI that develops max output of 150 PS. Available transmission systems include a manual gearbox and a DSG transmission with six or seven gears.

Now, the 1.5-liter TSI Evo petrol engine is not entirely a new powerplant. It is in fact, an evolution or an upgraded version of the 150-PS 1.4 TSI unit that is available as one of the cores for the 2017 Skoda Octavia. Featuring cylinder deactivation, this 1.5-liter TSI Evo engine is able to deliver 150 hp (110 kW) of max output and 250 Nm (184 lb.-ft.) of peak torque. This means that the petrol versions of the new 2017 Skoda Octavia facelift will be available with either a 1.0 TSI with 115 PS or a 1.5 TSI Evo with 150 PS. As for the 1.4 TSI petrol engine in the Skoda Octavia, it will be gradually replaced with the evolved unit starting the second half of the year.
