Supercharged Chevrolet Camaro takes over Europe thanks to GeigerCars

Fine-tuned American muscle cars like Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang are pretty common in the US. Most likely, you will come across one supercharged Camaro when you’re out on the street. But in Europe? Probably not as much. Over the years, there have been no known car tuners that specialise in building car kits for a car like this. However, things are about to change after GeigerCars comes out with its own version of the 630hp Chevy Camaro.

There is no denying, GeigerCars is making a bold move by introducing a supercharged 630hp Chevrolet Camaro in Europe. The Germany-based conversion specialists equipped the Camaro SS 6.2L V8 LT1 with new ECU software, new oil cooler and a new supercharger. Geiger Cars, led by Karl Geiger has been in the tuning industry for years. The auto tuner from Germany has in fact, made special kits for Dodge and Ford‘s high performance cars before.

An exclusively available sport exhaust system can also go with the newly tuned Chevrolet. These enhancements allow the Camaro to deliver 630hp at 6,500rpm and 583 pound feet of torque at 4,700rpm. Overall, GeigerCars’ Chevrolet Camaro can go from 0-62mph in less than 3.9 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 190mph using its 8-speed auto transmission gear.

2010 Camaro SS Compressor by GeigerCars

German tuning firm GeigerCars has applied its expertise on the new 2010 Camaro, which completes the trio of legendary muscle cars after the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger. GeigerCars aimed to refine the car using German engineering but it wanted to keep the car's brute heritage.

With the Camaro SS as the base for tuning, its engineers chose to increase the output of the car's 432 horsepower 6.2-liter V-8. GeigerCars's specialty is a high-performance supercharging kit and the engineers did just that for the Camaro.

Using a mechanical compressor, the engine power was raised to 568 horsepower and 799 pound-feet of torque. Aside from the supercharger, the Camaro SS is also fitted with a high-flow exhaust system comprising new catalysts and mufflers.

This 2019 YENKO SC Stage II Camaro is a 1,000-hp SS coupe with 1LE package

Have you ever wanted to own a Chevrolet Corvette track car? Well, if you are, you must know that you don’t have to settle for the new ZR1 with an output of 755-horsepower (563 kilowatts). That is because German tuner GeigerCars started offering a circuit-ready variant of the Z06 Carbon 65 Edition. It definitely is a track car, because it comes with a roll cage, and a safety harness. Apart from that, it has been equipped with a supercharged 6.2 liter V8, which now makes it a little more powerful, with as much as 759 horsepower (556 kilowatts) and 729 pound-feet (989 Newton-metres) of torque.

To still keep its identity, Geiger Cars made sure that Carbon 65 Edition still keeps as much carbon fiber as it can. This is what makes it special and extra lightweight. When looking at it, the exterior comes with a new front end with a revised grille for better airflow, fender vents, tweaked side skirts, and a sub-frame with an integrated diffuser by Geiger. For the spoiler, customers can choose how they want it to be - from a subtle flat piece to a full racing setup. Overall, Geiger Cars’ treatment gave the Z06 Carbon 65 Edition a more aggressive look, without making it look too crazy.

Geiger Cars was able to boost the standard Z06’s power from 650 horsepower to 759 horsepower, as they replaced its regular 1.7 liter Eaton supercharger with a 2.3 liter screw-type unit. This has been paired with the stock transmission, which could be an eight-speed automatic or a seven-speed manual. The throttle, intake and engine software had all been tweaked as well. The upgraded model can now reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds, while reaching a max speed of 209 miles per hour (337 kilometers per hour). That is pretty good when compared to Chevy’s own ZL1.

In a recent interview with GM’s Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, we learned that the automaker is currently developing a more affordable version of the Chevrolet Camaro with a V8 engine. It was also hinted that it won’t be the only variant that will get special attention.

Todd Christensen of Chevrolet said to GM Authority that they are trying to come up with a lower end version of the said vehicle. By doing so, they have to think of ways to repackage and reprice the Camaro. Right now, Christensen says that they are exploring different options for this, and they also noted that the V8 engine seems to have a higher demand than what they have expected.

In fact, when they had the fifth generation Camaro, the automaker sold a lot of V6 engines, thinking that the sixth generation would be the same. But instead, the V8 demand increased for the latter. That being said, Chevrolet still sells more V6 Camaros, it’s just that there is something about the new V8 that are luring more muscle car fans.

To mark Hot Wheels’ 50th anniversary in 2018, the miniature toy car company has partnered with Chevrolet to build a custom Camaro Hot Wheels Edition. This hot new custom Camaro will be based on the first Hot Wheels released in 1968 to pay tribute to its heritage. For an additional $4,995, Chevrolet will be offering the new appearance package for 2013 model year Camaros including the new 2SS coupe and 2LT convertible models, aside from the 2018 COPO Camaro Hot Wheels Edition available for purchase.

For the road-going Camaros, the Hot Wheels Edition can be had in the iconic orange Crush color with stripes mimicking the shade of Hot Wheels’ toy tracks, while also resembling the Hugger Orange exterior paint of the Chevrolet Camaros from 1969. The new exterior package will consist of dark Chevrolet bow ties, black tail lamps, ground effects in Satin Graphite shade, orange brake calipers, limited edition 20-inch wheels and 50th anniversary Hot Wheels badges.

As for the interior, the Hot Wheels Edition adorns the cabin with a special edition steering wheel with the 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels badge. It’s also packed with illuminated door sill plates, embossed front headrests, orange seat belts, orange stitching and plenty of orange leather inserts.

In Australia, factories of GM-owned subsidiary Holden, have closed and so the automaker is looking for ways to keep the fans of the performance brand loyal. Despite the fact that the Mustang is the current best seller as it continues to outsell other sports cars in the region, Holden Special Vehicles and Chevy will work together on a plan to introduce the Camaro to the Australian market next year.

In 2018, Chevrolet will be selling the Camaro SS through the same dealer network, according to Wheels Mag. Of course, HSV engineers will convert the left-hand drive Camaro into right-hand drive for Australia. Under the hood, it will still have the 6.2 liter V8, allowing it to produce 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts).

As usual, the Camaro won’t come cheap. In Australia, one could get it for $80,000 AUD ($62,675 USD). For comparison’s sake, the entry level Mustang with a 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine starts at $44,990 AUD ($57,425 USD). One thing we have just learned though is that this model will never make it to European streets, this is because of the European pedestrian safety standards.

Unlike the standard ZL1, the ZL1 1LE variant overall has a more aggressive body kit, front splitter, massive front dive planes and a huge carbon-fiber rear wing. These aerodynamic components make it extra aggressive and a menace on the track, according to Motor Trend. Apart from good looks, the main purpose of the dive planes is to cool the car down, while adding downforce when on the track, but this also makes the vehicle more threatening to pedestrians, according to EU safety rules. In fact, giving the ZL1 LE the dive planes alone are enough reason to buy the car, while also making it illegal on the road.

If you want to convert your standard ZL1 to a 1LE, you will have to shell out an extra $7,500 over the ZL1’s standard price, which includes a number of upgrades. Both trims come equipped with a 6.2 liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) and 650 pound-feet (880 Newton-metres) of torque. The main difference is that the 1LE gives it a diet where it loses 60 pounds (27 kilograms) off the standard ZL1 - thanks to its thinner rear windows, and fixed rear seats.

And the odd thing is that these examples are not that worn out yet to be priced that low. One of them, with 13,000 miles (20,921 kilometers) on its odometer since 2014, is being sold for $35,000. Another example, on the other hand, has only been driven for as short as 952 miles (1,532 kilometers) and now has a price tag of $36,000. You can find these cars on an auto auctions website, but if you search for used cars, you will see examples with similar pricing. So this will make you wonder why these low-mileage cars are being sold for such price.

Like it or not, Chevrolet may soon be offering a cheaper Camaro in hopes of competing with Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang GT. Apart from the less expensive trim, the automaker is also looking to offer more options for the V8 muscle car.

Bottom line: Chevrolet can lower the starting price of the existing $38,000 Camaro with a stripped-out Camaro SS. In an interview with Automotive News earlier this week, Chevy’s product head Mark Reuss said they are trying to go for a more affordable Camaro range to give way for more choices as well as to stay on the same level playing field as Ford.

Reuss explains that it may proceed with adding a new variety of options just so they don’t have to convince people into buying all the options with a V8 for the sake of having the V8. In the same way, he believes how it will open up better opportunities for the company if say, the Mustang and some of the vehicles in the segment should come with a much cheaper price tag.

And believe it or not, for the first time in seven years, the Dodge Challenger was able to outsell the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. That is a big deal considering that two months ago, it was announced that the Ford Mustang is the best-selling car in the world - at least in last year’s ratings.

Last month alone, Dodge was able to deliver 6,605 Challengers, which definitely is a huge hike from last year’s sales. The company sold 1,000 units more than it did in June 2016. For the sake of comparing, Ford sold 6,186 Mustangs which while Chevrolet only delivered 4,691 Camaros in June 2017.

While sales of the Dodge Challenger had suddenly gone up in June, we do not know if this will be a trend in the next coming months. In terms of year-to-date sales, the Ford Mustang still is at the top of the leaderboard at 44,608 units during the first two quarters of the year, followed by the Chevrolet Camaro at 36,567 units, and catching up is the Dodge Challenger with 35,910 examples sold, according to Torque News.

Hennessey Performance recently published a riveting video showing The Exorcist’s 959.32 hp and 756.29 lb-ft of torque on the rear wheels.

As it turns out, the tuner from Texas wants to announce to the world that “The Exorcist” Camaro ZL1 could cast out an incredible 959 hp on the Dyno test. It isn’t even close to the SRT Demon’s 840 hp at the crankshaft.

The theory is based on actual math, starting with the fifteen percent “drivetrain loss” on the Demon’s 1,103 hp. As for the ZL1, the boosted performance was made possible by Hennessey’s decision to upgrade the Camaro’s ECU, intakes and supercharger. Needless to say, the competition between Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and Hennessey Performance Engineering’s Chevy Camaro is heating up even more.

The newly unveiled high powered American muscle - 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon also graced the halls of the Auto Show with its 2.7 L supercharger that produces up to 808 hp. But hoping to steal the spotlight from the Dodge Challenger SRT is the latest vehicle of the Trans Am: the 2017 Trans Am Super Duty.

The Pontiac label was put to its shallow grave after General Motors axed the brand in 2010 as a result of financial dilemma. But now the Pontiac's classic muscle car is given a second life in the form of the 2017 Trans Am 455 Super Duty. The previous Trans Am vehicles were modelled from the 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro and General Motor's Zeta chassis, now the newly unveiled Trans Am 455 Super Duty is probably the first unit ever produced that is molded around the sixth gen Chevy Camaro and the lightweight Alpha chassis.

The biggest asset of this beast of a vehicle is its 455 cubic inch (7.4 L) variant of the GM's recent generation V LT1 V8 engine equipped with a Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger that produces up to 14 psi of boost- which has 0.5 less psi compared to the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Trans Am Worldwide further revealed that the engine of the 455 Super Duty was made in partnership with a still unnamed premier NASCAR engine builder hailing from Martinsville, Virginia. Turns out, our guesses would directly point to the Arrington Performance by the very own NASCAR racer and team owner Joey Arrington. A cold air intake and purely ceramic coated headers, with 3.0 inch of exhaust powers contribute to an impressive 1,000 hp and 1,046 lb-ft of torque: a 160 hp and 276 lb-ft more than the Demon's performance on gas and 192 hp and 329 lb-ft more than the Demon's execution on 91 octane.

However, the same cannot be said of other big markets like China. General Motors just announced that in China, its sixth-generation Camaro will have a starting price of RMB 399,900, which in current exchange rates comes in at about $58,000. That’s right, it is indeed double the U.S. price.

There are many possible reasons for the high difference in price and one of this is that the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to the automatic eight-speed transmission costs almost the same as that of the high-end ZL1 in the U.S.

Having the car shipped all the way to Australia will means you’ll have to add shipping fees and local taxes. So, getting the ZL1 and then converting it to a right-hand drive will be very costly. In fact, simply swapping the steering wheel will cost you another $33,700 (44,000 Australian dollars), and after adding all the other costs, the Camaro will have a price tag price of around $115,000 ($150,000 AUD).

With a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that can yield up to 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) and 650 pound-feet (880 Newton-metres) of torque, the ZL1 is actually the fastest Camaro ever, having a top speed of 198 miles per hour (318 kilometers per hour). Furthermore, due to its 10-speed automatic rapid acceleration, it can shift much faster than a Porsche dual-clutch PDK - that in just 3.5 seconds, it can sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour). The 2017 Camaro ZL1 is definitely one powerful machine.
