A plan by the European Union executive to tax high-energy fuels – a move that could increase the price of diesel -- has placed Brussels at odds with Germany, the biggest vehicle producer in the continent. The blueprint proposes to increase the minimum levy on diesel in line with gasoline, thereby making motor fuel taxes more eco-friendly.
The tax proposal by European Commission could become an EU law by 2013. However, through this initiative, Germany would have to raise its tax on diesel to 75 cents per liter by 2020 from 47 cents. Such tax increase would essentially contradict with Berlin’s financial support for the diesel.
Approximately 50 percent of the new cars registered in Europe uses diesel as fuel, and such scenario has benefited many German carmakers like Daimler and BMW. This engine could be paired with either of the two transmissions: a standard six speed manual transmission, that lets it burn 4.1 to 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle, or an eight speed automatic transmission that burns a little less, at 3.9 to 4.0 liters for every 100 kilometers. Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil the new X350d 4Matic X-Class at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. After going through a number of tests in Germany, the BMW 320d was deemed to be fully compliant will all legal requirements by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Ford Motor Co. revealed that it will be offering a new Power Stroke 3.0-liter V6 engine for its F-150 trucks. With this addition, customers now have a total of six choices for the engine of the F-150.

Mercedes-Benz has officially released the pricing details of the new 2019 CLS. The base variant is the CLS 350d 4Matic that’s equipped with the inline-six rated engine and comes with a displacement of 2,925 cc and an output of 286 hp with maximum torque measured at 443 lb.-ft. This has been priced at $80,176 (€68,127.50) for the German market.
Much like the base model, the CLS 400d 4Matic is fitted with the same diesel engine although it has been tuned to offer more power at 340 hp having peak torque of 516 lb.-ft. It has only been a few days since Oliver Schmidt, former Volkswagen executive, was handed a maximum possible sentence by US District Judge Sean Cox. He will have to spend seven years in prison and pay a fine of $400,000. And on December 8, Volkswagen has again been put on the spot. The German automaker urgently had to stop their sales of the T6 Multivan in Germany because it was discovered that the van emits way more nitrogen oxide than what is allowed by local emissions limits.
