2018 GMC Yukon Denali gets new grille, interior trim and 10-speed automatic transmission

The upscale version of the GMC Yukon body-on-frame sport utility vehicle – the GMC Yukon Denali – has been refreshed for the 2018 model year. It now sports a new grille for a more expressive front end, a new interior trim for more depth, as well as a new 10-speed transmission for a more refined performance.

Although this is a refresh of the GMC Yukon Denali, it is enticing enough to attract new and even returning customers. First off, the 2018 iteration of the GMC Yukon Denali has a new grille that is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting. This is an evolved version of the iconic Denali grille, featuring a more sculpted and layered appearance.

Matt Noone, director for Global GMC Exterior Design, remarked that the new grille advances the design legacy that was set by original Yukon Denali in 1999. He noted that while the new grille features a more exciting and sophisticated design, it allows the Yukon Denali to be immediately recognizable as a member of the GMC Denali family.

2015 GMC Yukon Denali, Yukon XL Denali receive new 8-speed automatic transmission

With the addition of a new 8-speed automatic transmission, the updated 2015 Yukon XL Denali and Yukon Denali from GMC now lead the market in terms of fuel economy, horsepower and torque. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engines of the Yukon XL Denali and Yukon Denali are now paired with the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. This addition makes the Denali more fuel-efficient than the 6-speed automatic.

The two-wheel drive Yukon Denali has an estimated EPA highway mileage of 22 mpg whereas the four-wheel drive now has an EPA city mileage estimate of 15 mpg. Within its category in the market, the Yukon Denali is unrivaled in delivering efficiency and power .The engine gives a peak of 420 horsepower with 460 lb-ft of maximum torque. This results in a highway fuel economy that is at par or even better than the 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder engines of its competitors.

The Yukon Denali’s new 8L90 transmission has smaller steps between its gears making the engine more efficiently leverage the peak power bands. With a wide gearing, this allows the use of a lower rear axle ratio of 3.23:1, reducing both fuel consumption and engine speed while cruising on the highway. The improvement in fuel economy has not compromised in any way the capability and comfort expected from a Yukon.

New York Auto Show Preview: 2012 GMC Yukon and Sierra Heritage Editions

The 2012 New York Auto Show is where the 2012 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra Heritage Editions would make their debut. It was on this same event 100 years ago that the GMC name had been seen first on a truck. These special models will get the commemorative exterior badges on their doors, featuring the original GMC logo design that was used on the 1912 range of models such as the gas- and electric-powered trucks meant for the most demanding early drivers.

The words “Heritage Edition” surround these words. The 2012 Heritage Editions will be available on Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Yukon and Yukon XL models in SLT trim. It will be offered in three colors: a new, exclusive Heritage Blue ($195), White Diamond ($995) or Onyx Black (no added cost).

The interior colors for the Yukon are Ebony and Light Tan. The Heritage Edition package on the Sierra is priced at $2,645 on top of the SRP. For the Yukon and Yukon XL package, you only need to add $1,970. It costs $1,820 for the Yukon XL ¾-ton model.

There will be three new cars from GM that will be introduced this coming May including the Yukon Hybrid SUV and the Sierra Hybrid Pickup including the Yukon Denali Hybrid SUV which will be show at the New York Auto Show this coming week. Yukon's newest addition to its lineup is an 8-seater upmarket full-size SUV with a towing capacity of up to 5,800lbs (2,636kg) which, GM claims, to have a fuel economy of 21mpg (11.2 liters/km) within city limits.

The Yukon Denali is suitable for hybrid applications due to their greater fuel efficiency in contrast to smaller gasoline-electric variants such as the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. Since fuel economy is the most essential consideration at this time the Yukon has an edge in this area as shown by about 80 percent of those who consider buying the model because of its fuel economy ratings.

GM's Two-Mode hybrid system will be powering the vehicles, which involves the combination of two lightweight electric motors fitted in the transmission, together with regenerative brakes and steering and air-conditioning systems which are both electrically powered.
