Back in the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen showcased a Passat GT Concept at their booth. Though it has been a little over a year since that happened, the automaker has finally come up with the production model of the 2018 VW Passat GT and will bring it at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. And all we can say is that it looks exactly like the 2016 concept. Just without the bold GT graphics on the sides.
So. What does the production model have to boast? Well, it definitely has a touch of sportiness. Both the exterior and interior also got over 20 visual enhancements. The front fascia comes with standard LED headlights as well as daytime running lamps, paired with the bumper from the R-Line. There is also a new black honeycomb grille that replaces the one on the stock unit, and is surrounded by red trim. After all, anything GT must have a hint of red.
There are also black accents all around the car, from the side mirrors, the door trim, to the subtle GT fender badges as well as the blacked out roof. Volkswagen of America, Inc., revealed that it will be officially unveiling the Passat GT Concept during the Automobility LA, also known as the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The concept itself was made possible through the brand’s North American Engineering and Planning Center located in Chattanooga. This was the result of looking into the extensive feedback from dealers and customers in the U.S. As a concept, this car serves as the preview for a possible new model to the Passat range.
In terms of overall description, the Passat GT concept is the standard Passat with new styles put in and mixed with the VR6 engine with output at 280 hp. Specifically, the Passat GT concept is powered with the 3.6-liter TSI VR6 engine that is paired to the automatic dual-clutch DSG 6-speed transmission. The transmission itself is controlled by using the shift paddles that are placed on the steering wheel.
On the inside, the Passat GT offers a more athletic feel given the carbon-fiber pattern seen on the instrument panel and the door trim. Helping with this impression are the black-and-gray two-tone sport seats that have contrast stitching. Lanzante Motosport is taking advantage of the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed to showcase its latest conversion project – the McLaren P1 GT By Lanzante. Allegedly commissioned by a rich client from the Middle East, the McLaren P1 GT By Lanzante is essentially a McLaren P1 GTR converted into a Longtail, easily capturing the attention of visitors at Goodwood.
Doing a project based from a McLaren P1 GTR isn't something new to Lanzante. After all, the British racing had been converting the track-only P1 GTR for use on the road. Lanzante also had six P1 GTR units converted to become road-legal P1 LM versions. Five of these P1 LM units were sold while the sixth example was retained as the XP1 LM to be used for development and testing. Interestingly, the XP1 LM managed to set the fastest ever time for a road car on the Goodwood hillclimb of the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, completing the 1.86-km course at just 47.07 seconds.
Now, another P1 GTR is making waves at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, but this time it has been converted into a longtail – the McLaren P1 GT By Lanzante. Soon, it will be end of the road for the people’s car from Germany – the Volkswagen Beetle – as the carmaker is due to end the production of the second generation in 2019. Sadly, VW has no plans to give the Beetle a direct successor. Nonetheless, it remains possible that the name “Beetle” would be resurrected as an all-new model distinct from its current two-door form.
A report from Autocar is saying that VW is considering creating a revolutionary new Beetle, one that has four doors and powered by an electric powertrain. The new Beetle could be presented as part of the army of emotional cars that VW plans to launch along its standard models.

As we get closer to the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the list of automakers that will attend the upcoming show is getting shorter. Volkswagen had just announced that they have decided to just skip the show that will take place in the City of Light, an event that takes place every other year. The Paris show alternates with the Frankfurt Motor Show. This news was revealed to us by France-based Autoactu.com. This was further confirmed by VW’s local French branch.
The German brand has doubts on whether it will be beneficial and relevant for them to attend international auto shows. But then, VW said that even if they will not attend the show in France, they will likely organize various actions like test drives in the city during the event. In addition, VW is analyzing prospects of organizing its own events for new car launches, which is something many automakers like Volvo have been practicing for quite some time now. One of the reasons for this could be because participating in these events could be very costly, and they don’t have as much reach compared to that of social media.
Despite the fact that VW will not attend the show, the group’s other brands, including the Skoda, SEAT, Audi and Porsche are said to make their way there. Right now, we do not have the complete details whether the Bentley and Bugatti marques will be there as well. It was back in October last year when Volkswagen began teasing us about the fully electric Pikes Peak racer, and last month, they showed us fully revealing images of the model. Now finally, VW has opened up and is ready to talk about the model’s technical specs.
This zero-emissions race car carries two electric motors, that gives out a combined output of 680 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and a considerable amount of torque at 650 Newton metres (480 pound feet). This model is called the Aventura Exclusive Concept, and now has a direct road going rival in the shape of a new range topping version of the luxury workhorse.
Today, the strongest Amarok is packed with 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 406 pound feet (550 Newton metres) of torque. All these come from the 3.0 liter TDI V6 engine. This version has a little more power at 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) and 428 pound feet (580 Newton meters) of torque. Memminger, a small German manufacturer, has decided to give the world its version of the iconic car, and the product is absolutely beautiful.

We are all aware that the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will hit dealerships by the end of this year. But that is not the only thing that we are excited about as it will also be cheaper than its predecessor. The company just announced that the MQB based sedan will have a price tag of $18,545 when it goes on sale later this year - excluding handling and destination. This still makes it $100 less than the outgoing model which starts at $18,645.
The VW Jetta comes in a number of different trims, and the most standard one will be the S trim that is equipped with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that makes 147 horsepower (109 kilowatts) and 184 pound feet (249 Newton metres) of torque. You will probably be surprised that there is a Volkswagen pickup truck on US soil. Yes, it’s true. It’s called the VW Atlas Tanoak Concept. But before you get too excited, VW has said that it is not planning to bring this model to production.
CEO of Volkswagen North American Region, Hinrich Woebcken, even made it clear that he is not interested in selling a truck in the United States market. Last month in Chicago, during a roundtable interview, he told reporters that the full size truck market in the country is too loyal to their brands that a newcomer is unlikely to make an impact.

After several months of spy shots and teaser photos, the 2019 VW Touareg finally has been revealed and it seems like a very technologically fitted car in the United States. The third generation model will be available in Europe as a flagship model, setting the bar higher for near premium SUVs.
The Touareg’s dimensions not only has grown in size to have some more cabin space. In particular, it now measures at 4,878 millimeters long (192 inches), 1,984 mm (78 inches) wide, and 1,702 mm (67 inches) lower. The capacity of the trunk has expanded too, now with 810 liter when the rear seats are in place.

In recent news, we have been hearing that Volkswagen’s next plan for their SUV lineup is a two-row, five seater version of the Atlas. The automaker then confirmed that the model will be built at their Chattanooga, Tennessee plant and that we should expect a concept version of it at the 2018 New York Auto Show later this month. At the moment of writing, the automaker has not given the new model a name, so it currently is being referred to as an “Atlas variant”.
Volkswagen’s desire to offer a wider range of SUVs in the US market was never a secret to the public. In fact, there had been reports about this late last year. In addition to that, we also heard during Chicago Auto Show that Volkswagen is planning on adding two more SUVs to join the Atlas and the Tiguan.

Earlier this week, we talked about Volkswagen’s plans to halt the production of the US spec Passat for a few weeks during spring. And now, we just learned new things about its European counterpart. The Wolfsburg based manufacturer said that the Euro spec Passat will be out in the market very soon, though they did not give a particular date.
Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Volkswagen brand, said in his speech at the annual Volkswagen Media Conference, that the Passat is almost ready to arrive in dealerships across the Old Continent. But he stops there and does not give any other details. However, he did mention that the Passat will be available as Variant and hybrid models.
Unlike the US spec Passat, the European variant of the model sits on an MQB platform. The eighth generation of the D segment vehicle was launched way back in 2014, as a premium car that is still affordable to most. As early as 2018, Volkswagen already has a clear vision of its sedan offering for the year 2030. As an embodiment of that vision, the German carmaker is presenting at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show the all-electric I.D. Vizzion Concept, a four-door sedan boasting of full autonomy and artificial intelligence.
Joining the I.D. compact, I.D. Crozz SUV and I.D. Buzz microbus in the carmaker’s I.D. family, the I.D. Vizzion Concept offers level 5 autonomy, with operations directed through voice and gesture. On the exterior, the all-electric sedan by VW, envisioned for 2030, looks like a typical four-door model of today. Later next month, Volkswagen plans to finally reveal the third generation or 2019 model year Touareg at Beijing, China. This is actually earlier than the initial plan, which was to debut the car in April. A couple of months ago, we saw spy shots of the SUV without its camouflage, which suggest that these are probably what we should expect from the production model.
