Volkswagen's yearly Worthersee affair that happens in Austria is considered a hotbed for all types of cars from the German company's long and renowned history. For this year, VW has finally divulged the anticipated details of the 2 cars that will be displayed at the said affair- an estate version of GTE hybrid and the over 400hp Golf GTI that bears the label "First Decade".

BMW confirms that an M8 and M8 GTE are on their way

BMW just keeps on getting bigger and bigger, in terms of their lineup I mean. Just after unveiling the 8 Series Concept, they are now teasing us with an M8 variant. As of now, the closest we have to the M8 variant are just camouflaged photos and a video since BMW won’t give out any information just yet.

The camouflaged variant looks similar to the 8 series in terms of design, but it comes with the signature trimming we have expected on the M’s go-fast models. Though we know that this isn’t at all close to the final production version, note that it has enlarged air intakes in the fascia, enlarged wheels with low profile tires, brake calipers finished in blue, and at the rear end are quad exhausts.

BMW M Division president, Frank van Meel, said that the upcoming BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and feature enhanced track ability and “generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility”. He added that it flows into a driving experience that has the highly recognizable BMW M hallmarks” and that meets the most challenging demands of its customers.

Volkswagen of America has the Golf GTE Sport concept on display at the 2015 Los Angeles International Auto Show. This will be the first time for Volkswagen’s concept car to be shown in North America. The main highlight of the Golf GTE Sport is that it combines the best features of vehicles that are suited for both the road and for motorsport.

For example, its exterior and interior show it to be a sports car. The same is true of its suspension and drivetrain. However these are all offered with a plug-in hybrid system that allows for zero-emission when driving.

The Golf GTE Sport is equipped with the 1.6-liter TSI engine that is mainly based on what powered the two-time winner of the World Rally Championship, the Polo R WRC. As such, it can deliver as much as 295 horsepower with 295 pound-feet of maximum torque.

Volkswagen took the covers off its first plug-in hybrid SUV at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. This Tiguan GTE is indicative of where the brand intends to take the Tiguan in the future. Exhibited as a concept vehicle, the Tiguan GTE is capable of generating a system power of 160 kW / 218 PS.

When in the all-electric mode, it can be driven up to 50 km in "E-Mode" with absolutely no emissions. It has a combined fuel consumption of an average of 1.9 l/100 km with a CO2 emissions rating of 42 g/km. Its driving range as an electric vehicle is quite long as it gains from being equipped with a lithium-ion battery (which can be charged externally up to 13.0 kWh) and the first-of-its-kind solar module that is built into the roof.

The energy generation from this module is dependent on the regional solar radiation power but with the ideal conditions, it can generate as much as 1,000 km of driving range annually. Conditions in Germany may cause it to produce energy for a 500 km drive while in Southern Europe, it can go as high as 800 to 1,000 km.

Aston Martin Racing has unveiled the Gulf #97 Vantage GTE – a 24 Hours of Le Mans art car that designer Tobias Rehberger created. Last June 8, it was revealed to the public at the official race scrutineering in the town centre. What makes this vehicle stand out is that even when it’s static, it offers the illusion of movement and speed.

Rehberger has been the recipient of multiple awards around the world, one of which is the Golden Lion for best artist at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The German artist is famous for creating abstract art and optical effects that distort perception. He was asked by Aston Martin Racing to design a livery that would work with the Gulf Vantage GTE’s lines and colours as had never been done before.

It was 30 years ago that the first art car joined the 24-hour race. Rehberger will attend the race this Saturday as a guest of Aston Martin Racing. He said that his design is rooted in his interest in distorted perception and related phenomena such as auto moving patterns, optical effects, camouflage and visual confusion.

First of all, there is a 1.6-liter TSI (turbocharged direct-injection engine) adapted from the Polo R WRC (World Rally Car), producing 299 hp (220 kW) and 400 Nm of torque. In addition, the four-cylinder engine is assisted by two electric motors, one positioned at the front in the housing of the 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the second is located at the rear.

The first electric motor produces 115 hp (85 kW) and 330 Nm of torque, while the second one produces 115 hp (85 kW) and 270 Nm. The total output delivered by the plug-in hybrid system is 400 hp (295 kW) and 670 Nm (495 lb-ft) of torque. In the GTE mode, when all three motors work together, the Golf GTE Sport is able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds, while top speed is 280 km/h (174 mph).

Volkswagen wants to take advantage of China’s incentives for NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) and intends to release a production variant of the C Coupe GTE plug-in hybrid concept, which will be the brand’s flagship for its low-emissions range. VW Group is adding to its lineup of alternative-powertrain models that will be eligible for the government’s incentives that aim to cut air pollution in its cities.

Subsidies will be given to sales of vehicles that are able to drive in zero-emissions mode for at least 50km. The models that qualify are battery-powered EVs, plug-in hybrids that use both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, and fuel cell vehicles. When VW Group starts making this C-Coupe GTE production version, it will be one of its over 15 locally built up low-emissions vehicles in China.

Among these are the Passat GTE and Audi A6L e-tron plug-in hybrids. These two models will begin production in 2016 in China. Beginning this year, VW will bring in the Golf GTE plug-in. Imported versions of VW’s electric Golf and electric Up minicar are already sold in China.
