Ford halted F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition due to low sales

The Ford brand stopped building the high-end Harley-Davidson edition of its F-series pickup due to very low demand. According to Doug Scott, Ford Motor Co.'s truck marketing manager, the carmaker has no plans to build an F-series Harley-Davidson edition "at the moment." He noted that Ford currently has 10 models in the market, including a brand-new Limited Model fresh for 2013.

He said with this lineup, Ford has the pickup market well covered. Ford launched the Harley-Davidson special edition in 1999 and continued its production through 2012 model year. The special edition, however, typically accounted for only 1 to 2 percent of Ford's F-150 mix, according to Scott. On the other hand, sales of high-end Platinum version of the Super Duty pickup launched in 2009 have surpassed expectations.

Beau Smith, chairman of the Ford National Dealer Council and co-owner of Sill-TerHar Motors, with Ford and Lincoln franchises in Broomfield, Colorado, told Automotive News that the Harley-Davidson edition pickups accounted for only a meager part of his volume.

The Morgan Motor Co. is going back to its roots. For a start, its iconic Threewheeler is making a comeback in 2011 – exactly 58 years since it was last sold. The 2011 Morgan Threewheeler, which weighs 500kg, is powered by an 1800cc V-Twin engine from Harley Davidson and equipped with a Mazda five-speed gearbox.

Its engine delivers 100bhp at the rear wheel and is believed to push the aluminum trike to sprint from zero to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and to hit a maximum speed of 115mph. It is offered in eight exterior colors, with each accented by black components in matte or gloss finish.

Customers can also opt between black or tan leather. The interior features aircraft-style toggle switches for the different accessories and a “bomb release” style start button.

2010 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition revealed ahead of Chicago Auto Show

The latest Harley Davidson version of the F-150 pickup truck will be introduced by Ford in the Chicago Auto Show this week. It will come as a 2010 model with a new front face, grill, uprated interior and embellishment specifically made for this model. Further features include 22-inch forged aluminum rims and sports suspension.
