Leaked documents list an entry level 2018 Honda Civic Type R

The rumour first came from Truth About Cars, which was then leaked by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to them, there might soon be an entry-level Civic Type R in the market. What else is in the document? Well, it also shows a new top-end touring model, given the model code FK8G. Meanwhile, there’s another one with the same 306 horsepower (228 kilowatt) engine as the Civic Type R. This was given the code K20C1.

If we are correct, there will be two variants of the Civic Type R available in 2018 - a base Type R and a more equipped Type R Touring. Furthermore, if you could remember, there were reports earlier in April which said that a second, more well-equipped variant of the Type R would be offered.

This is also because today, customers are only limited to one kind of Type R. This model features a seven-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch driver information interface, and is compatible with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 540-watt 12 speaker stereo. To make consumers happier and be more willing to get the Civic, the base Type R might start as low as $30,900 or $31,775 after tax and destination. $3,000 is quite a big discount from the current model.

New Honda Civic Type R Prototype finally reaches US shores at 2016 SEMA Show

Car enthusiasts and customers alike in the U.S. finally got the chance to take a closer look at the new Civic Type R Prototype from Honda as the automaker has included it in the lineup for the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association, or 2016 SEMA Show, held in Las Vegas.

This latest offering from the brand was first shown to the public during the 2016 Paris Motor Show held last October. It was also on this same auto show in Paris that Honda revealed it would be bringing the Civic Type R to the U.S. Created by the brand’s Research and Development divisions of both Japan and Europe working together, the Type R is based on the 10th generation of the Civic and comes out just after the official launching of the 2017 Civic Hatchback.

As such, the new Type R has the same wide and low proportions seen on the Hatchback. Some of the differences include the body style being more muscular plus a host of other modifications that are intended to boost aerodynamic performance.
