Hyundai is introducing a new 2018 Accent that is not only wider and longer, but is now also sporting a new look that is more serious than the previous model. The South Korean carmaker unveiled the 2018 iteration of the Accent at the 2017 Canadian International Auto Show, hoping that this iteration of the subcompact car will further boost the popularity in the United States in Canada.
The most glaring changes in the new 2018 Hyundai Accent are very much seen on its exterior. While the carmaker only unveiled the sedan version 2018 Hyundai Accent, the smaller sibling of the Hyundai Elantra will be available in both sedan and hatchback body styles. In terms of overall looks, the 2018 Hyundai Accent looks like a smaller version of its larger brother, the Elantra. From the front end to the rear end, the 2018 Accent sports an appearance that would make onlookers mistake it for an Elantra, until they realize that it is smaller than its Hyundai family sibling.
With the 2018 Accent donning a new and more serious look, gone now is the seemingly happy and smiling face of this subcompact car. The redesign implemented revisions on the subcompact’s grille and headlights as well as its wraparound lights on the rear, giving the new 2018 Accent a more earnest look in line with Hyundai’s other recently redesigned models (like the new Elantra GT). Headlining the subcompact’s new look is Hyundai’s signature hexagonal cascading grille as flanked by wrap-around headlights and LED daytime running lights.Read the entire article Hyundai unveils new generation of Accent subcompact at 2017 Canadian Auto Show
Singing while driving isn’t typically seen as offensive but it recently merited a traffic ticket from police officers in Canada. The driver, who goes by the name of Taoufik Moalla, was apprehended for allegedly “screaming.”
Sometimes, driving could be a lot more enjoyable when in-vehicle entertainment like music gets into the equation. When passengers or drivers hear their favorite song, they may get carried away by the tune and belt out some notes. This isn’t an uncommon occurrence in everyday driving, whether in city driving or long trips.
But in the case of Moalla, a favourite hobby turned into a traffic violation. As reported by CTV News Montreal, Moalla was driving to a store and was singing along to the tune of C+C Music Factory’s Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now). As he recounted, he was singing when he suddenly heard a police siren coming from behind.Read the entire article Canadian driver gets CAD$149 ticket from police officers for singing while driving

The current generation of the BMW M3 sedan – codenamed F80 -- is entering its last hurrah with impending arrival of the next generation (with G20 designation). But that doesn’t mean that the current BMW M3 isn't enticing. In fact, it is as stunning as ever. Still, BMW isn't resting to ensure that M3 remains visually striking, as made possible through its BMW Individual program. This particular BMW M3 sedan in Canada is a prime example.

Ever since vanity plates have become more accessible, almost everyone wants to get a piece of the attention. Sadly, if your last name happens to be “Grabher”, you might have to think twice about getting a custom license plate.
A news report came about last Friday about a certain Lorne Grabher, a Canadian citizen who has been denied of using his personalized license plate by the Nova Scotia Government. The Registry for Motor Vehicles apparently canceled his registration after receiving complaint from one of the motorists. His surname, according to the provincial authority is considered to be misogynistic and offensive to women.
According to Grabher, his father’s vanity plate had the same last name on it for decades and this was the only time that the government has not allowed him to file for a renewal.Read the entire article Canadian’s 'GRABHER' vanity plate is disallowed by authorities due to unfortunate message
Nearly a year after the Subaru XV Concept was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, this SUV study is making its North American debut at the 2017 Montreal Auto Show, but as the Subaru Crosstrek Concept.
Except for the moniker, there are no changes or modifications made on the Subaru Crosstrek Concept as displayed at the 2017 Montreal Auto Show. This means that the XV Concept in Switzerland and the Crosstrek Concept in Canada are one and the same.
Just like the current Subaru Crosstrek XV, the concept will be based on the Impreza. However, the main difference between the current Crosstrek and the final production version of the Crosstrek/XV Concept would be in their underpinnings. The resulting SUV from the Crosstrek Concept will be underpinned by the Subaru Global Platform that will underpin the next generation of the Subaru Impreza due to arrive for the 2018 model year.Read the entire article Subaru Crosstrek Concept makes North American debut at 2017 Montreal Auto Show
Two supercars were found to have been involved in a collision in the Massey Tunnel in Vancouver, Canada. The accident, which occurred last week, involved a Lamborghini Huracan colliding with a Ferrari 458 Italia.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the front of the red Huracan bumped the rear portion of the blue Ferrari 458 Italia. While the front of the former and the rear end of the latter were indeed damaged, the authorities revealed that the damages appeared to be repairable and thus had the possibility of being written off.
It appears that the experience could have played an important role as the RCMP said that the persons behind the wheel of these two supercars were young men and both in their 20s. The police said further that the two drivers were likely inexperienced as one of them even only carried a novice driving license. Following the accident, both vehicles were towed with the driver of the Huracan to be charged with a traffic violation, specifically for following too closely the 458 Italia in front.Read the entire article Lamborghini Huracan rear-ends Ferrari 458 Italia in Vancouver
It appears Volkswagen Group might be settling its way out of the so-called “Dieselgate scandal” in Canada – a similar path it has taken in the United States. This comes after the German carmaker agreed to settle nationwide consumer class claims covering 105,000 vehicles powered by its emissions-cheating 2.0-liter diesel engine in Canada.
Canada’s Competition Bureau launched an investigation and found that Volkswagen Canada and Audi Canada did mislead its customers by promoting its vehicles – sold or leased in Canada – as powered by clean diesel engines with lower emission levels even cleaner than their gasoline counterpart. The Bureau found that certain diesel units from Volkswagen and Audi were able to pass applicable emissions tests thanks to installed software that could make it seem that these vehicles were emitting lower emission values during testing.
Audi and Volkswagen vehicles covered by the proposed settlement in Canada include: VW Jetta (model years 2009 to 2015); VW Jetta Wagon (MY 2009); VW Golf (MY 2010 to 2013, and MY 2015); VW Passat (MY 2012 to 2015); VW Beetle (MY 2013 to 2015); VW Golf Wagon (MY 2010 to 2014); VW Golf Sportwagon (MY 2015) and Audi A3 (MY 2010 to 2013, and 2015).Read the entire article VW Group agrees to settle Dieselgate scandal in Canada for CAD$2.1 billion

Nissan has just released a video about the Rogue Warrior that shows why this prototype is a good choice for those harsh winter conditions. The release is considered fitting as Canada is just starting with its major snowfall which marks the start of a possible severe winter.
In the video, the Rogue Warrior is equipped with snow tracks and shows just what it can do by going through what looks like 40 centimeters of new snow and then climbing up a 30-degree slope to reach a ski resort in the northern part of Quebec. Going back to the video, it starts with a group of snowboarders and skiers waiting impatiently for what appears to be a chairlift moving slowly.
An observant snowboarder, also in line, notices that the people are getting frustrated and makes an early departure. However the same snowboarder later returns in the Rogue Warrior and carries everyone up the hill, with all the snow, effortlessly.Read the entire article Nissan releases winter-ready Rogue Warrior Concept with stylish snow tracks
By April 10, the sale of Canada’s 73.4 million shares in General Motors to Goldman Sachs will be completed. Canada's federal government is entering this transaction in an unregistered block trade. The value of the GM shares is around $2.69 billion with the $36.66 closing price on Monday.
In a statement, Canada said that more information will be unveiled within the next several days when Canada GEN Investment Corp. (the entity that held the shares) files a report about this trade with securities regulators.
Canada's Minister of Finance Joe Oliver said that with this impending sale, Canadian taxpayers will no longer be exposed to market risks and GM will finally revert to being in the private sector after “having supported its continued contribution to the Canadian economy.” Oliver added that from the start, the government’s investment was always intended to be temporary.Read the entire article Canada to sell remaining 73.4 million shares in GM to Goldman Sachs
Unifor may seek early negotiations to secure jobs at General Motors’ Oshawa site in Ontario, according to Unifor National President Jerry Dias. The union’s current contract will expire fall next year as part of the carmaker’s Oshawa work will also be shut down the same period. The US carmaker has long decided to close part of the facility – two assembly lines -- but has delayed it several times, most recently in 2013.
Dias referred to what happened in 2006, when Unifor predecessor -- the Canadian Auto Workers – inked a special "shelf" deal with GM to secure new investment in the middle of a contract. These shelf agreements typically include special concessions from workers in exchange for promised investment to protect jobs.
"We could easily do that again if instead there is a solution for consolidated and flex," remarked Dias. GM Canada has said in the past that it would not decide on the consolidated line until next year, although its president, Stephen Carlisle, did not rule out the possibility of early talks. Carlisle remarked to Reuters that since such talks were achieved before, he wouldn't rule it out.Read the entire article Unifor may call for early talks with GM Canada
Toyota Motor Corp. plans to produce more SUVs this year at its sites in Japan and Canada to cater to growing demand in the United States. Jim Lentz, chief executive officer of Toyota’s North American operations, remarked that the freeze on building new plants remains until end of March 2016, and the carmaker will have to squeeze more vehicles from its existing sites to meet a surge in demand.
Toyota will continue to expand the output of its SUVs after sales these models jumped 16 percent in 2014 to a new record. Toyota was able to regain its crown as the largest carmaker in the world as it continues to perform very well in the US, as boosted by its SUV models like the RAV4 and the RX.
The Japanese carmaker sells five SUVs while main rival Volkswagen AG only offers two. But Toyota may not stop at five as it is considering smaller SUVs for further growth, according to Lentz.Read the entire article Toyota wants more SUVs from Japan and Canada to meet US demand
Nissan Motor Co. posted a new sales record in Canada, selling over 100,000 vehicles this year. Nissan Canada said it breached the 100,000 mark on Dec. 17, 2014, after a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum was sold at Willowdale Nissan in Thornhill, Ontario. The previous record was set last year at 82,604 vehicles.
According to Canada’s monthly Desrosiers Automotive Report, Nissan managed to log a 28-percent jump in sales in the country in the first 11 months of 2014, holding a 5.7-percent share of the market at end of November. The federal government of Canada wasn’t given all the information regarding the final restructuring plans of General Motors and Chrysler Group when it green-lighted a C$13.7-billion ($12.1 billion) bailout for them in 2009, the Auditor General of Canada said in a report. The submission of the final restructuring plans was one of the conditions agreed during negotiations for the loans.
Both the United States and Canada bailed out GM and Chrysler from financial collapse as they race to save the North American auto industry. The Canadian and Ontario governments granted C$10.8 billion in total loans to GM and another C$2.9 billion to Chrysler.
The government has since recovered C$3.8 billion from GM and C$1.7 billion from Chrysler and converted around C$9.8 billion of the loans to GM into equity, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The government still own 110 million shares at the carmakers.Read the entire article Auditor says that Canada green-lighted a $12.1 billion bailout for carmakers with limited data

The eight-year emissions defect warranty, meanwhile, will still have mileage coverage of up to 128,000 kilometers, or 79,535 miles. Kory Koreeda, president of Mazda Canada Inc., remarked that the carmaker’s focus is on long-term customer satisfaction.

Volkswagen has issued an order to its dealers in the United States and Canada to stop selling 813 units of its new Golf and GTI hatchbacks due to a mistake in assembly that could lead to steering problems. According to a stop-sale order sent to dealers and obtained by Automotive News, the front stabilizer links in the affected vehicles were installed with too little torque and as a result could come loose over time and make “considerable noise.”
If the links detach entirely, drivers would find it harder to turn the steering wheel, leading to a possible crash. According to the stop-sale notice, the issue covers a total of 2,001 vehicles in the United States and 446 vehicles in Canada.
It includes 705 unsold units in the US and 108 undelivered vehicles in Canada. VW spokesman Mark Gillies told Automotive News in an e-mail that some vehicles were unaffected by the issue and can still be sold. He added that the carmaker VW has notified the US National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration of the issue, which means the cars may recall units already sold.Read the entire article VW issues stop-sale order for Golf and GTI in the US and Canada
