Hyundai’s production of i10 minicars to be in Turkey instead of India

Hyundai will produce its i10 minicar in Turkey for European markets as part of its efforts to increase sales in the continent.  Hyundai will produce the i10 alongside the i20 subcompact at its joint venture with Kibar Holding of Turkey in Izmit. To accomplish that, Hyundai plans to double annual production capacity of the Izmit plant to 200,000 units by the end of 2013.

This will effectively create 750 new jobs at the plant and another 1,500 at suppliers. Hyundai hiked the capacity of the Izmit plant in May to 120,000 to start the production of the new i20. With sales of around 73,000 in 2011, the i10 is the company’s fourth best-selling model in Europe, after the i30, i20 and ix35, according to JATO Dynamics market researchers.

Around 70 percent of the vehicles that Hyundai markets in Europe are built at its Turkish plant and at its Nosovice site in the Czech Republic.

Hyundai to start selling updated i10 city car range, Blue model on March 1

Going on sale starting March 1 are the updated versions of Hyundai’s i10 city car range. On this date, Hyundai’s first sub-100g/km Blue model will also arrive. Hyundai upgraded the specifications and designs of the rest in the lineup. The new and improved version of Hyundai’s entry-point model is regarded to be a major step forward over the current i10.

Modifications were made on the i10’s design, both in the cabin and on the car’s exterior. These changes are in line with the brand’s bold and progressing design language, showing an obvious resemblance between the new i10 and other recently launched Hyundais, including the sleek ix35 and ix20 models.

The lineup is powered by a new and improved range of Euro V compliant engines that offer clean performance, outstanding fuel economy and very low emissions. The all-new 1.0-litre ‘Kappa’ engine is featured on the latest i10, replacing the old 1.1-litre ‘Epsilon’ unit. This innovative three-cylinder engine returns an awesome 67.3mpg combined.
