2011 Honda Odyssey gets best overall vehicle score for passing crash tests

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the best-possible Overall Vehicle Score of five stars to the all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey. It is one of the first two vehicles ever to receive five stars in each seating position for all three crash tests, each crash test category and the overall rating, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

The other vehicle that has achieved this is the 2011 Accord Sedan. The Odyssey achieved its top Overall Vehicle Score with five-star ratings for the frontal crash safety test and both side crash safety tests in all evaluated front and rear seating positions and scenarios.

In addition, the Odyssey got four stars for the rollover rating, the highest score that could be achieved in the light-truck vehicle class using the program's measurement methodology. The recently introduced Overall Vehicle Score is included in the federal government's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) that is being applied to 2011 models first.

Honda Odyssey Concept unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is showing off its new Honda Odyssey Concept at the Chicago Auto Show, thereby providing a glimpse of a new exterior styling direction for the next generation of the minivan that will arrive this fall. The Odyssey Concept has done away with the typical minivan styling by donning a low and wide stance, which is accentuated by a "lightning-bolt" beltline.

Highlighting the new Odyssey's sporty appearance, the lightning-bolt beltline dives toward the rear of the minivan for enhanced outward visibility for third-row passengers. The concept -- when compared to the current Odyssey -- features a stance that is wider by 1.4 inches and a roofline that is lower by an inch.

These changes in profile give the concept a sleeker and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics. Customers can expect further changes to the production version of the next generation Odyssey – all of which are designed to increase the minivan’s room for both people and cargo.
