Fiat Chrysler reports net income of 92 million euros in 1st Quarter of 2015

Even with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ declining performance in Latin America, it was still able to post a net income of 92 million euros (or $101 million) in the first quarter. This is mostly attributed to its impressive run in North America. A year ago, FCS reported a $190 million loss. The company experienced a 38% increase in revenue in North America to $17.8 billion.

Shipments in North America went up 8% to 633,000 vehicles while its sales grew 6% to 587,000 vehicles. Its profit margin in North America for the quarter was 3.7%, higher than the 3.2% recorded the previous year. Meanwhile, adjusted earnings before interest and taxes in the region increased by 58% to $661 million.

For the first quarter, its global unit shipments dropped 2% to 1.1 million units, mostly due to Latin America. Worldwide, Jeep shipments increased by 11% amid the worldwide buildout of the SUV brand. Global revenues for the first quarter increased by 19% to $29 billion. FCA reported having cash of $24 billion in the first quarter, a marked drop from $25.3 billion in the same period last year.

Chrysler logs 22% gain in net income in second quarter of 2014

Chrysler Group posted a 22-percent jump in net income in the second quarter of 2014 to $619 million, thanks to record Jeep sales and strong demand for its pickups. The carmaker saw its revenues in the quarter gain 14 percent to $20.5 billion.

The jump allowed Chrysler to capture 0.8 percentage points of market share in the United States to 12 percent after selling 533,000 vehicles in the period, according to the Automotive News Data Center. Global sales at Chrysler jumped 12 percent to 723,000.

Its Jeep brand logged a 43-percent climb in global sales in the second quarter of 2014 to 269,000 units. The Ram brand surged 15 percent in the period to 145,000 vehicles. According to the carmaker, its total sales in the US soared 15 percent in the second quarter of 2014.

Chrysler raises net income by 65% in 2013 to $2.8 billion

Chrysler posted a 65-percent surge in net income in 2013 to $2.8 billion. It also posted a 10-percent rise in revenues to $72.1 billion. Adjusted net income for the year was $1.8 billion. Chrysler’s strong financial performance in full year 2013 was greatly helped by a huge rise in net profit in the fourth quarter.

For the last quarter of 2013, the carmaker logged $1.6 billion in net income, compared to $378 billion in the same period in 2012.

Chrysler’s results were boosted by a one-time tax gain of $962 million. The carmaker logged a 24-percent rise in revenues in the fourth quarter of 2013, bolstered partly by its holding of over 25,000 Jeep Cherokees past Oct. 1 to recalibrate their transmission software.

Chrysler net income rises 22% to $464 million in third quarter of 2013

Chrysler Group posted a 22-percent rise in net profit in the third quarter of 2013 to $464 million, thanks to strong sales of pickups and sports utility vehicles that were able to offset delays in the rollout of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. It was Chrysler’s ninth quarterly profit in a row. The carmaker logged an 8-percent rise in sale in the United States to 603,000 vehicles in the quarter, lower than the industry’s 12-percent rise.

Chrysler saw its revenues in the three-month period gain 13.5 percent to $17.6 billion, compared to $15.5 billion in the same period in 2012. The US carmaker posted cash of $11.5 billion at the end of September 2013, compared to $11.9 billion at the end of June and at end of September 2012.

Chrysler had a gross industrial debt of $12.4 billion at the end of September, compared to the $12.6 billion it had at the same point in 2012. According to Chrysler, delays in rolling out the 2014 Jeep Cherokee negatively impacted its cash flow in the third quarter. Chrysler commenced output of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee on June 24, 2013, but only started rolling the mid-sized SUV out dealers last week.

Chrysler Group posted a 16-percent rise in net income in the second quarter of 2013 to $507 million, compared to $436 million in the same period in 2012. The carmaker attributed the rise in earnings to strong pickup and SUV sales as well as growth in the United States and around the world. Chrysler logged a 10-percent surge in sales in the US in the second quarter of 2013 to 479,980, outpacing the industry's average rise of 8 percent.

All the carmaker’s brands, except for its namesake Chrysler, posted an increase in sales in the period. Chrysler posted a 7-percent rise in revenues in the second quarter of 2013 to $18 billion, compared to $16.8 billion in the same period in 2012. At the end of the quarter, Chrysler had cash of $11.9 billion, down from $12.1 billion one year ago. Despite posting its eighth consecutive quarterly profit, Chrysler cut its profit forecast for full-year 2013 from $2.2 billion to between $1.7 and $2.2 billion.

The carmaker also updated its projected modified operating profit for 2013 to reflect a downward roll from $3.8 billion to between $3.3 and $3.8 billion.

There have been no straight six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles since 2007, when Jeep launched the Wrangler JK generation. While Chrysler had been using straight six-cylinder engines since 1964, it eventually decided that it was already enough for this mill.

Just recently, rumors have been sprouting about the possibility of the rebirth of straight inline six-cylinder engines at Fiat Chrysler. These rumors also came up in 2017, but so far, no inline six-cylinder engines have been confirmed or even spied. The latest speculation was a result of a published report from Allpar, the same Web site that reported a similar rumor last year. Of course, these are just speculations, and we don’t vouch for their authenticity.

According to Allpar, Fiat Chrysler is reportedly developing a new straight-six engine as a complement to the new GME four-cylinder mills. These smooth yet compact new straight-six engines are to be derived from the new GME four-cylinder units.

Rumors of a potential merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Hyundai Motor Group quickly spread like a wildfire. But the South Korean carmaker is also quick enough to try dousing the fire by denying the rumor.

The denial was made officially to Roadshow by Michael Stewart, senior group manager of Hyundai Corporate and Marketing Public Relations. Stewart said the merger rumor is totally groundless.

As early as 2015, FCA has been courting suitors for a possible merger or takeover. In 2017, there were rumors saying that Hyundai has shown interest to acquire FCA. A number of the Chinese companies had also expressed interest in buying out FCA. At that time, Hyundai maintained its silence over the takeover. Even FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne denied the rumors. Interestingly, FCA’s share price spiked after the reports of interest.

The company has named this software AutoPark, which basically works the way it sounds. This system automatically gets activated when the driver leaves the car and is left in gear. What happens is AutoPark will stop the car while leaving it on accessory mode - this will keep the radio and other feature stay active for 30 minutes before it shuts off. This feature will also be activated when the driver opens his door with the seat belts unbuckled. This software update was introduced back in April. However, cars that have this software were only released in the summer.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was not only put on the spot over the new shifter designs. They were in hot water last year when actor Anton Yelchin met a tragic accident. The problem with the new shifter is not because it is complicated to use, but because it does not tell the driver whether the car is already parked. This is a problem because drivers have gotten used to this for decades now, as it is a standard in all vehicles.

The reason for the outrage was because the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that 266 crashed, 68 injuries, and 686 complaints were related to the electronic shifters that were the same as that on Anton Yelchin’s Jeep Grand Cherokee. After the incident, the company had to recall a total of 1.1 million vehicles in April 2016, so that they could upgrade the software on the shifter designs.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica began sales in dealerships about a year ago. And now, the company is introducing an animal-friendly trim for those who want more features of the model without having to sit on animal skin.

The Touring Plus, also known as the sixth trim for the Pacifica lineup, falls in between the Touring and the Touring L trims. The package offers more standard (and optional) features without being stuck with those hot leather seats.

The comfy minivan will be given premium features such as a power lift gate and a new front fascia. Finished in a gloss black paint, the exterior gets a mesh lower fascia and new fog lights like the higher trim levels. There will be projector headlights on the front while the rear gets LED taillights. For a more comfortable ride, it will come with a three-zone automatic temperature control, as well as second- and third-row sunshades, and lets not forget the universal garage door opener.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is indeed placing more of its focus into in-car technology as evidenced by its decision not to unveil any new production vehicle or show car at the Detroit Auto Show as well as by its intention to demonstrate a concept version of its planned Google Android-based infotainment system at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Essentially, the UConnect connect vehicle system to be shown at the CES 2017 isn’t the final version yet. The demonstration aims to show the seamless integration of Google’s Android operating software and FCA’s UConnect infotainment system. This means that via the demo, FCA and Google want to show that the new UConnect still has the easy-to-use interface and functionality of the current system but now comes loaded with several elements that are only found in Android-powered devices.

As part of the hands-on concept demo at the CES 2017 (scheduled from January 5 to 8, 2017), FCA and Google will showcase a Chrysler 300 unit. Its current 8.4-inch UConnect software has been replaced with a prototype UConnect system that is based on Google’s Android 7.0 (Android Nougat) operating system.

Some might be disappointed to not be able to hear or see anything new from FCA at the upcoming 2017 Detroit Auto Show. However, this doesn’t mean that FCA doesn’t have anything fresh to present to the public. In fact, FCA will be taking the veils off its all-electric Chrysler Portal autonomous concept at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chrysler Portal is basically an all-electric SUV that shares some physical similarities with the brand’s other electric crossover – the new Chevrolet Bolt EV. However, the exterior of the Chrysler Portal is laden with a number of eccentric design elements. For instance, the Portal concept features an uncanny nose with a front bumper that has a central hole, which possibly contains the front sensor or camera used for its autonomous driving system. Unlike other SUVs, the Chrysler Portal concept is provided with doors that open sideways. The doors for the front passengers slide forwards while those for the rear occupants slide backwards. Overall, the exterior of the Chevrolet Portal features compact packaging.

The most amazing part of the new Chrysler Portal concept is its 180-cubic-foot interior. As its name suggest, the concept serves as a portal that serves as a perfect transition from home to work – and vice versa -- as a third space. In addition, the concept serves as portal that connects the driver to the passengers and vice versa; and the occupants to the vehicle and its surroundings.

In the minivan segment, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is already impressive in terms of fuel economy figures – as rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In fact, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica returns EPA-rated fuel economy figures of 28 mpg highway, 18 mpg city and 22 mpg combined. But it turns out that its hybrid version would infallibly dominate the minivan mpg wars after EPA finally released its fuel economy ratings for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

Prior to the release of the official EPA ratings for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, the carmaker is already preaching impressive fuel economy figures for its new minivan. Chrysler expected the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid to return 80 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) – that is when the minivan is running in pure electric mode. The carmaker also expected the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid to be able to travel up to 30 miles in all-electric (EV) mode. In addition, the hybrid minivan from Chrysler is estimated to deliver – when running on conventional engine – 32 mpg combined city and highway. Overall, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers a range of around 530 miles.

When the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid underwent scrutiny with the EPA, the results were highly encouraging for the hybrid minivan, as they totally exceeded Chrysler’s expected fuel economy numbers. According to the EPA, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid returns 84 MPGe (vs. 80 MPGe estimated) with a conventional rating of 33 mpg combined city and highway (vs. 32 mpg combined city and highway estimated). In the all-electric mode, the EPA has certified the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid to be able to travel up to 33 miles (vs. 30 miles estimated). In addition, EPA has rated the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid as being capable of reaching a total of 566 miles (vs. 530 miles estimated). With these numbers, Chrysler will be able to gloss the credentials of the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid as the most fuel-efficient minivan in the market so far, until Chrysler or other carmakers manage to surpass it.

Chrysler is updating its Chrysler 300S model by endowing it with sportier and more aggressive styling through its new Exterior and Interior Sport Appearance Packages. Unveiled at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, the 2017 Chrysler 300S with new Exterior and Interior Sport Appearance Packages could be ordered at Chrysler dealerships across the United States this August.

These new selections are inspired from areas outside the auto industry, like fashion, architecture and technology.

As expected of the Chrysler brand’s product design office (PDO) team, the interior of the 300S has become a canvass that conveys both sportiness and luxury. For instance, the instrument panel, door panel and instrument cluster bezels now feature new Piano Black interior trim appointments while the door and center console armrests, steering wheel, and the instrument panel brow are highlighted with new Light Gray Diesel colored accent stitching.

Buyers looking for excellent fuel efficiency need not look further than the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan. With a highway-cycle fuel-economy rating of 28 miles per gallon given by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is 12 percent more efficient than the model it replaces and it now holds the record for fuel efficiency in the minivan category.

In addition, the new Chrysler minivan was found to be nine percent greener than the previous model. FCA Product Development COO and Head of Product Portfolio Management for FCA’s Group Executive Council Mark Chernoby explains that the new Pacifica isn’t just engineered for today’s enjoyment but is designed and crafted with the welfare of its customers many years down the road.

This is why, the company created one of the cleanest vehicles in its category. The new minivan’s nine percent improvement compared to the previous model is based on its Global Warming Potential (GWP), an industry-adopted means to gauge the all-inclusive environmental impact of a vehicle from its production, to its delivery, and eventually to its fuel consumption figures while being used.

FCA US is facing a civil racketeering suit filed by two Fiat Chrysler dealerships that are part of the Napleton Automotive Group. The plaintiffs – Napleton's Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram stores in Arlington Heights, Ill., and its Northlake Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram store in Lake Park, Fla. – allege that the carmaker was in conspiracy with some dealers to bloat its monthly US sales reports.

Since emerging from its bankruptcy, FCA managed to report 69 straight monthly year-over-year sales increases. In fact, FCA officials, including chief executive Sergio Marchionne, flaunted the carmaker's streak at the 2016 Detroit auto show. It should be noted that it was the longest current streak of any carmaker.

According to the plaintiffs, FCA paid dealers to report the false sales on the last day of the sales month. The next business day, the dealer will then “back out” or unwind the sales before the factory warranty on the vehicles could be processed and start to run.
