Infiniti updates styling of its 2018 QX80 SUV for a bolder appearance

There is both good and bad news for fans of the Infiniti QX80 sports utility vehicle. Bad news is that this luxury SUV remains at its current second generation even after eight years in the market. Good news is that for the 2018 model year, the Infiniti QX80 is getting a major refresh. Infiniti has just unveiled the latest iteration of the Infiniti QX80 SUV at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show.

Thankfully, what Infiniti implemented in the latest iteration of its premium full-size SUV is more than just a refresh as it’s a major update that involves exterior styling. According to the premium carmaker, the 2018 Infiniti QX80 is taking the brand’s ‘Powerful Elegance’ design language in a bold new direction, thereby creating a dynamic, modern and commanding exterior appearance. Overall, the new Infiniti QX80 now comes with bigger and bolder looks.

To this extent, the styling changes made on the new Infiniti QX80 are very much noticeable up front. For instance, the front end of the new 2018 Infiniti QX80 is now dominated by a larger grille, covering more space on the façade of the SUV. Compared to the headlamps of the outgoing QX80, the ones on the 2018 iteration have been raised to be more in line with the top end of the massive grille.

2019 Infiniti QX60 and QX80 Limited Editions look hotter than ever

Infiniti decided that they would give the 2019 versions of the QX60 and QX80 more style, especially with the introduction of the new Limited edition at the 2018 New York Auto Show. Some of these upgrades would be the eye catching parts on the exterior, and the high quality leather that can be found throughout the cabin.

Infiniti decided to give the QX60 Limited dark chrome bits around its body - from the grille, to the fog lights surrounds, and door moldings. The automaker also gave its roof rack and cross bars some dark paint, while the lower portion of the rear bumper is gloss black. The Limited model has been given a set of 20 inch multi spoke wheels too. That’s all the new things it gets on the outside.

As for the interior, the company installs Stone coloured, semi aniline leather seats that are contrasted with the stitching. This also extends to the door panels. The upholstery is then accented with dark silver wood trim as well as a black headliner. Under the hood, the QX60 Limited remains with the same 3.5 liter V6 that has an output of 296 horsepower (220 kilowatts) and 270 pound-feet of torque.

The wait is over and it is much worth it. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar is returning for the 2019 model year, and it is out to present a good challenge against current high-performance cars in the market. Aside from its very aggressive function-driven appearance, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 is also powered by a new exclusive supercharged V8 engine offering more than 700 horses on tap.

Chevrolet is resurrecting the ZR1 nameplate once more, signifying its intention to remain as one of the leaders in the supercar pack. By virtue of performance, the resurrected ZR1 lives up to its name as the new performance flagship of the Chevrolet brand. The previous ZR1 (Chevrolet Corvette C6) was powerful with its supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 engine delivering 638 hp (476 kW) of max output and a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).

Nonetheless, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 won’t lose after all as it has a more powerful engine under its hood. This is the main reason why Chevrolet dubbed the 2019 ZR1 as the fastest and most powerful production Corvette. This mill is the exclusive supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine officially dubbed as the LT5. This LT5 engine is designed to deliver the highest output so far for a Chevrolet production vehicle, as partly made possible by a new, more efficient intercooled supercharger that boasts of a displacement that is 52-percent larger than on the system found on the LT4 mill of the Corvette Z06. This is complemented by new dual-fuel-injection system employing primary direct injection and supplemental port injection. As a result, the new supercharged LT5 engine is able to deliver a whopping 755 hp (563 kW) of max output and 715 lb.-ft. (969 Nm) of peak torque (SAE-rated). Power is sent to the wheels through either a seven-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Top speed of the Corvette ZR1 is pegged at over 210 mph.

The Infiniti QX50 compact crossover has been in the market since 2014, and has not been given a facelift since then. After being in the market for almost four years, the SUV will be needing some updates to keep up with its competitors, though the company did say that the update will come in 2019, and that they will completely skip the 2018 model year.

This statement was confirmed by Infiniti on Tuesday when they said that they are not considering a 2018 model year QX50, but will focus on a better version of the vehicle for the 2019 model year, says Motor Authority. Engineers and designers will make sure that the new SUV will resemble the QX50 Concept we saw earlier this year at Detroit.

Right now, you are probably wondering what to expect from the 2019 model year. Well, sources say that it will come powered by Infiniti’s new Variable Compression-Turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine that they refer to as VC-Turbo - this was first previewed last August. For improved performance and fuel economy, the technology changes the cylinder compression ratio. As for performance, the first production unit is unfortunately less powerful than the 3.7-liter V6 found on the outgoing QX50 with 325 horsepower (242 kilowatts). That being said, it has 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts) and 288 pound-feet (390 Newton-metres) of torque.

Infiniti revealed that tomorrow it will be presenting two models, both of which have those striking new faces. These two have been designed to have a “good and evil” pairing with the objective of being able to seduce while also shock. The two models are the Infiniti Q50 and the QX70. Both of them are first one-off models that resulted from the creative partnership of two exceptionally premium brands. Specifically, this is the well-known leather and furniture specialist of Italy, Poltrona Frau, and the luxury performance automaker Infiniti.

According to Shiro Nakamura, who is the Chief Creative Officer of Infiniti, the project was a great chance for two luxury and premium brands to be able to work together. This particular project, he added, began in a natural manner and is mainly founded on the respect and admiration each brand had with their respective vision and spirit.

The design team at Infiniti was inspired by the modernity displayed by Poltrona Frau, he continued, as well as the awe-inspiring craftsmanship and the excellent historic heritage. Nakamura continued by saying that with the two brands having a common goal, it was important that the result would be exhibited as pure artwork. Bugatti introduced the Legend “Meo Costantini”, its third model in the six-part edition “Les Legendes de Bugatti”. As its name says it, this special edition of the Veyron Grand Sport is dedicated to Meo Costantini and is reminiscent of the Bugatti Type 35 a.k.a. one of the most successful racing cars of all time.

The new supercar was introduced at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show and as we said it pays tribute to Meo Costantini, a close friend of the company’s founder Ettore Bugatti as well as the head of Bugatti’s factory race team for many years, but also a driver, winning the Targa Florio two times in the Type 35. The Legend Edition “Meo Costantini” costs 2.09 million euros, excluding taxes and transport, and if you want one you’d better hurry up as only three units will be available.

Just like the Vitesse “Jean Pierre Wimille and the Vitesse ”Jean Bugatti”, the Legend “Meo Costantini” is based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, which means it uses the same 8-liter W16 engine rated at 1,200 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque. With these numbers, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 408 km/h (253 mph) with the roof down.

The 1962 Chris-Craft “Holiday” boat will soon cruise the seas powered by a V8 engine of Infiniti QX56. The hot-rodding of QX56’s engine in the Holiday is a collaboration project of students from Tennessee Technical Center-Nashville and Nashville State Community College with their instructors and some Infiniti personnel. The students have completed the first phase of the project.

After the 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V8 engine was removed from the QX56, it was dispatched to Bracket Marine in Westbrook, Maine for a trial fitting. The engine’s bell housing was also modified so that it could be used with the ZF/Hurth marine transmission.  The project is currently on its second phase. The engine is undergoing “marinization,” during which water-cooled exhaust manifolds are fabricated and a closed cooling system is adapted.

It will then be sent to Infiniti’s engine facility in Decherd, Tennessee, where its horsepower and torque will be tested to make sure it remains at par with factory specs. The engine will go back to Maine, where it will be installed in Holiday’s hull, which is currently undergoing total restoration. Following the restoration, the students will commence the third phase, the reassembly.
