David Brown Automotive unveils specs of its first car based on Jaguar XKR

David Brown Automotive, the new British luxury auto brand, has disclosed the outline specs of its first car. Lying under the car’s bespoke exterior is the acclaimed chassis and powertrain of the Jaguar XKR – a modern 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission -- as optimized for the unit by Envisage group engineers.

The powertrain allows the car to accelerate from zero to 60mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of over 155mph (248 km/h). “As reliability is vital, we chose to adopt a thoroughly proven and acclaimed chassis that not only delivers dynamic performance but also lends itself to our lightweight aluminium design,” Brown said.

He said that the XKR was the obvious choice to base the car due to its performance and handling. The car’s state-of-the-art underpinnings are complemented by a completely original exterior and interior design, which is achieved through the highest quality materials and craftsmanship.

Jaguar to sell only 10 examples of XKR-S GT in the UK

Jaguar is planning to sell 10 examples of its XKR-S GT sports car in the United Kingdom. The carmaker has received intense interest for the extreme performance sports car since it was launched at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Sales were limited to only 30 examples in the United States and Canada.

The Jaguar XKR-S GT carries a tag of £135,000 on-the-road, with first deliveries to UK buyers due to commence on October 2013. Since its unveiling in New York, a prototype of the Jaguar XKR-S GT has been undergoing rigorous test programs on road and track in the UK and Germany.

Backed by a team from Jaguar’s Engineered To Order (ETO) division, the XKR-S GT recently manage to complete a lap at the world-renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in just 7 minutes and 40 seconds, making it the fastest ever road-legal Jaguar at the Nordschleife track. The Jaguar XKR-S GT recently had its public dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Jaguar planning to extend production run of XKR-S GT if there is strong demand

As long as there’s sufficient demand for additional units, Jaguar will extend the production run of the limited-edition Jaguar XKR-S GT. At the start, Jaguar had been insistent that just 30 units of the hardcore, race-based XK will be produced. All of these will be sold in the US and Canada. But only 24 hours after the car was launched at the New York Motor Show, confirmation came from Jaguar boss Adrian Hallmark about 20 more cars to be built if customers asked for it.

He said, according to Autocar, that the production run may reach 50 units. The XKR-S GT, which is equipped with a 542bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8, can go around the Nürburgring in one lap in less than 7min 40sec, which is approximately the same time as the record set by Ferrari 458 Italia.

Hallmark added that this project made them learn more about what makes a car go fast, something that will enable them to improve their road car programs. He said that rather than improving their lap times by increasing the engine’s output, Jaguar concentrated on factors such as driveability, aero enhancements, weight saving, and brake performance.

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT breaks cover at the New York Auto Show

If you believe that the XKR-S is already extreme you’d better think again as Jaguar unveiled today at the 2013 New York Auto Show the XKR-S GT. Developed by Jaguar’s ETO division, the XKR-S GT is described as the ultimate track-focused but road-going iteration of the XK Coupe. The first visual impact with the XKR-S GT shows a range of bespoke carbon fibre components, including an extended front splitter, dive-planes and a new rear wing.

Moreover, the car also features wheelarch extensions, a rear carbon fiber diffuser (which ensures the smooth exit of air from underneath the car) and new bonnet louvres that server as a futher engine cooling aid. Still, the bonnet louvres improve the airflow through the front of the car. Allied to the extensive aerodynamic revisions are detailed suspension changes. As a result, the front and rear suspension arms, uprights, wheel bearings, bushings and rear subframe are all new and draw on hardware developed for the F-TYPE.

Front and rear spring rates are respectively 68% and 25% stiffer than on the XKR-S. The XKR-S GT has a front track which is 52mm wider than that of the XKR-S while the rear remains the same.

Jaguar may soon release a handful of special-edition XKR-S coupes that would surely be highly coveted. Jaguar is set to produce 100 of its non-special-edition super coupes each year for the next three years. According to Frank Klaas, Jaguar’s global head of communications, the XKR-S is an “ambassador of the brand.”

He said that the proposed special-edition model is targeted at the guy who seeks to “drive to the track, lap or race to his heart’s content, and drive home.” The car could get rid of its rear seats and be equipped with lighter stereo as well as HVAC units for the touch-screen-based systems, hard-core racing seats, a fire-suppression system, unique gauges, and track-focused aero addenda.

It’s possible that a roll cage is part of the package but it depends on the market where the car is being offered. Just like the standard XKR-S, this variant (which may be named after the Nürburgring) would be built by Jaguar’s in-house Engineered To Order (ETO) group. The Nürburgring is where production-grade XKR-S models have supposedly achieved sub-eight-minute lap times.

As expected Jaguar unveiled today at the 2011 LA Auto Show its fastest convertible: behold the 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible! Based on the XKR-S Coupe, the convertible is powered by the same 5.0-liter supercharged AJ-V8 engine delivering 550PS (405kW) and 502lb/ft (680Nm) of torque.

The XKR-S Convertible can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.2 seconds and to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 186mph (300km/h). Regarding the design, the XKR-S Convertible comes with the same body kit as the coupe and the first visual impact with the car shows that we are taking about a really powerful vehicle.

The front end of the car shows a wider, lower air intake, a carbon fibre splitter and twin side nacelles, as well as new vertical panels at the edges of the bumper, that channel air down the side of the car along new sills. The exterior changes are highlighted by the application of gloss black to the exterior brightwork. The design is completed by the forged 20" Vulcan design alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tyres (255/35 ZR20 at the front and 295/30 ZR20 at the rear).

Jaguar’s stand at the Los Angeles Motor Show will feature the global debut of its new XKR-S convertible. The Jaguar C-X16 production concept will also be unveiled in North America. The new soft-top version is a lot similar to the XKR-S Coupe. It’s probably powered by the same 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine, which delivers 542bhp and 502lb ft of torque.

This makes it 39bhp and 41lb ft of torque higher than the standard XKR-S.

It has a limited top speed of 186mph and it has an acceleration time of 4.4 seconds just to go from zero to 60mph. It’s expected that any dynamic revisions made to the new cabriolet will likely be the same as those for the coupe.

A graphic rendering of how the upcoming Jaguar XKR-S is likely to look was made by Carscoop user L il-k Amaru. It can be recalled the Jaguar XKR-S wowed a lot of people at the recently held Geneva Motor Show with its bold styling and aggressive lines. It’s impractical to be used on the road but when positioned on the track, it’s formidable and is a serious competitor to its German rivals.

The production car is likely to have the same styling and awesome engine noise but unfortunately, it doesn’t have a roof to protect the occupants from the loudness of its 550hp engine.

The XKR-S Convertible will get a tweaked version of Jaguar's 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that delivers 550hp and 680Nm (501 lb-ft) of peak torque. In comparison, the standard car has an output that’s lower by 40HP and 70Nm. The car has a top speed of 186mph (300km/h), which is similar to the coupe.

To commemorate its 75th anniversary, Jaguar has developed limited-edition cars, which include the XKR175. The 2011 XKR175, its latest special edition car, will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Revealed in the early part of the year, the XKR 75 Jaguar features a revised suspension, aerodynamics, and engine. Changes made to the XKR175 aren't anywhere near as extensive. Its engine and suspension weren't touched, but the car receives a revised aerodynamic package.

The XKR175 gets a new front air dam, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a larger spoiler. These tweaks are also found in the optional XKR Speed Pack. These changes aid in making the car more stable at speed by producing more downforce. Its top speed was raised, from 155 to 174 mph.

Jaguar revealed today its latest evolution of its supercharged 2011 Jaguar XKR coupe which promises to deliver a significantly raised maximum speed up to 174mph from 155mph and bold styling changes. Set to make its official debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, the new car showcases to two new optional performance and styling packs Speed Pack and Black Pack a premiere to the XK range for the 2011 Model Year.

Now let's talk a little about these packages. The Speed Pack extends the top speed of the car from 155mph (250km/h) to an electronically limited 174mph (280km/h) thanks to a unique engine and transmission recalibration.

In order to keep the car stable at high speeds, the car features a revised front aerodynamic splitter and larger rear spoiler to provide increased balance and a reduction in lift. Every jaguar XKR fitted with the Speed Pack will feature body-coloured side sills and rear diffuser, chromed finish to the rear surrounds, upper and lower mesh grilles, side power vents and a boot lid finisher.

In 2010, the STARTECH program came up with great accessories that were meant to be used in coupe and convertible models of the Jaguar XK and XKR. STARTECH came up with exclusive and innovative modifications to a Jaguar XK Coupe to demonstrate what its range of accessories can do in order to personalize any Jaguar vehicle.

In this example, the engineers employed custom-made 21-inch forged wheels together with customizations to the XK Coupe’s riding height. Functionality and aesthetics do go hand in hand, so STARTECH’s stylists employed subtle modifications to the exterior of the already-elegantly designed XK Coupe.

These include spoiler flaps placed strategically on the front apron, reducing lift and improving aerodynamics in addition to making the car eye-catching. All of the enhancements to the XK Coupe were done using ultra light carbon fiber materials.
