Special edition Japan-exclusive Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster 50th Anniversary unveiled

Lamborghini recently introduced the Aventador S Roadster just over a month ago at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. And already, the V12 powered convertible is going to receive a special edition treatment. The 400 GT model was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the raging bulls, and it will only be limited to five cars. Each one of the Japan edition models will be one-offs since the Ad Personam department and the Cento Stile both gave them unique looks that take inspiration from the five natural elements of Japanese culture: earth, wind, fire, water and sky.

The one you can see in the photos, from its official unveiling in Japan, is the “water” edition. On the same day, the Italian marque also came up with the second edition of the Lamborghini Day Concours d’Elegance Tokyo. In this event, Lamborghini displayed a total of 50 cars. A few of the notable models included here are the gorgeous Miura, the Diablo and Countach. Alongside these were vehicles like the restored Miura SV and a 1976 Countach LP. And guess who won the “Best of Show” award? Well, it was the Countach LP. During the event, the automaker also presented scale models of the other four cars based on the remaining elements that will soon be produced.

Let us not veer away from talking about the gorgeous Aventador S Roadster. The exterior livery was finished by a team of ten specialists by around 170 hours. The paint turns out with a nice finish that contrasts with the exposed carbon fiber that is used for the hardtop and the windscreen frame. There is also a ‘50 Japan’ badge near the vehicle’s rear fender.

Mazda Japan opens restoration service for 1st-gen decades-old MX-5 Miata

Do you remember the Mazda MX-5 Miata? Perhaps not if you are a millennial reading this. That’s because it is a car from almost 3 decades ago. The older a car gets, the more signs of age you will notice, no matter how often you maintain it or how sparsely you use it. The MX-5 Miata, also known as the NA generation, is facing that issue now, and owners of this model are not ready to give up their cars yet. This is why Mazda is starting a restoration program for the car.

Mazda came up with this solution as they kept hearing from MX-5 Miata owners that they cannot let go of their cars, and that they want to keep on driving them, no matter how old the car gets. A lot of Miata owners also requested for Mazda to produce parts of the 28-year-old model.

Now, their prayers have been answered and Mazda will start accepting customer cars by early 2018 to restore them to their original shape. The restoration process will vary from one car to another, depending on the customer’s requests. The company will ask their clients what they want to get out of their Miata exactly, before working on the car. But first, Mazda plans to get a certification from German inspection group TÜV Rheinland Japan Co., Ltd so that they could produce high-quality vehicles.

Slowly, bits and pieces about the much anticipated 2019 Supra have come out. Gerald Killmann, Vice President of Research & Development recently spoke about the much awaited revival of the sports car during his interview with AutoRAI, covering a number of topics about the Supra. Here, he revealed several interesting details about the said model.

One thing they learned is that the new Toyota Supra has been developed mostly in Japan, and that Toyota’s European R&D team had a minor contribution. Killmann added that there will be a race car version of the Supra, which is not a big surprise for many, considering the fact that we saw the Gazoo Racing branded concept recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

He then said that the Supra will be sharing the same platform as the BMW Z4, though with a different interior and exterior design. But what really caught our attention during his interview was when he said that the model will be powered by a BMW-sourced engine, though he did not get into more details regarding this. He also said that rumours about a hybrid powertrain believed to be reserved for a range topping version isn’t part of their plan just yet.

We’re seeing the last days of the Volkswagen Beetle. Sales of its third-generation model have not exactly been positive. But even as the Beetle’s end is impending, it won’t go out without a bang. Memminger, a small German manufacturer, has decided to give the world its version of the iconic car, and the product is absolutely beautiful.

In case you’re not familiar with Memminger, let us give you a few details. It was established in the late 1970s as a steel construction company. The very first time it restored a Beetle was just before the millennium but it eventually turned into their core business. Since then, Memminger has been building, as well as restoring Beetles with the use of the original recipe.

Today, the latest model the manufacturer has built is the Roadster 2.7, a true modern-day Beetle.

The Italdesign Zerouno supercar surprised the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with an aerodynamic carbon fiber body and a race-spec rear wing with a central longitudinal fin. A year later at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Italdesign Automobili Speciali is unveiling an open-top version of the super coupe – the new Italdesign Zerouno Duerta.

The new Italdesign Zerouno Duerta marks the second chapter of the Automobili Speciali project that was launched in 2017. It all started with the Zerouno exclusive ultra-low series coupes, of which five models sold in a few months after they were presented. The moniker Duerta is derived from ‘duerta’ of Piedmontese dialect that means ‘open’ – referring to the open-top nature of the second Zerouno model.

According to Jorg Astalosch, chief executive of Italdesign, the huge success of the Zerouno coupe was only the beginning. Likewise, the Zerouno Duerta won’t be the last, as the brand Automobili Speciali is all-set to continue beyond this targa-top model. The unveiling of the Zerouno Duerta at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show is a fitting way to celebrate Italdesign's 50th anniversary year while further proving the company’s 'Best is Next' motto.

The Acura NSX, even though it has been produced in the United States, is rightfully claimed as one of its own by the legions of fans in Japan, where it is known as a Honda. For this particular example we are going to talk about, the owner definitely took it even further.

When looking at the images, it seems like the said car has been shot at Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji fish market, or some other similar market there. But it isn’t the place that matters, but the subject. As you can see here, this hybrid supercar looks like it is part of the country’s Super GT championship. But Honda is known for having several NSX-GTs in the series’ top GT500 class.

Though this Acura NSX looks a lot like a track focused car, it actually is a road going car. The supercar was modified by Liberty Walk and has been given a full body kit, making it look wider with a meaner demeanor. It had also been given enough aerodynamic enhancements that it will remind you of an air force fighter - blacked out like the one in the photo.

For those of you who are interested to own one of the BMW i8 Roadsters, be ready to spend some serious cash as the convertible that made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year will finally arrive in March. And the good news is that this will come with a handful of new features including the E-Copper leather, 20 inch wheels, a head-up display, and heated front seats, and of course, an inflated price tag.

If BMWBlog sources are valid, the BMW i8 Roadster will have a starting price of $163,300, which does not include the $995 destination fee yet. If the automaker ends up selling it for that price, then it will be the most expensive BMW on the market right now. In fact, that makes it $19,900 more expensive than the current i8 coupe that has a price tag of $143,400.

As usual, if you add all the optional features that the automaker can add to it, this model will dig even deeper into your wallets but it also gets much cooler. For instance, adding a set of laser lights for the i8 Roadster will cost you $6,300.

You probably are still reeling from the memory of having seen the $1.6 million Italdesign Zerouno Coupe last year. If you really wanted one and got disappointed when the coupe sold out in just a few months, you’re in luck as there will soon be a roadster version. The coupe was quite unforgettable. Here’s a brief description of it.

Its body was made with mostly carbon fiber, and under its hood is an Audi sourced 5.2 liter V10 that produces as much as 610 horsepower (449 kilowatts) and 413 pound-feet (560 Newton-metres) of torque. And in 3.2 seconds, it is able to sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour), before continuing on to hit a top speed of 205 miles per hour (330 kilometers per hour).

If you really wanted to get the Zerouno coupe but missed out, there is nothing to worry about, as Italdesign recently published a sexier, topless version of it. It will make its way to Geneva next month. We expect the Zerouno convertible to have pretty much the same style elements as the original coupe version, with the same performance too.

At one point, the Mercedes-Benz SL was at the peak of the automaker’s lineup, but this model has lost its appeal after the Mercedes introduced newer vehicles like the AMG GT Roadster, with the latter boasting a more interesting style. Because of this, SL sales have decreased over the past few years, and now the company is trying their best to reverse this by developing a new model that will be introduced in 2021.

For a couple of months now, Mercedes-Benz has been quiet about this model. But according to Automobile, this is because the automaker is debating whether or not the next generation model should just transition into an AMG exclusive vehicle. If they decide to push through with this, that will be a huge change for them. However, the publication says that because it will be developed alongside the next-generation AMG GT that is scheduled to come out in 2022, it kind of makes sense too.

The next generation SL will be sportier than its predecessor, which really should not come as a surprise despite its AMG origins. This is because it will adopt an aluminum intensive design, together with a rear wheel steering and active stabilizer bars. Customers will also have an option to add an air suspension and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

The fourth generation of the world’s best-selling two-seat sports car, the Mazda MX-5, was launched to the global market two years ago as the 2016 Mazda MX-5 (ND). But this early in its life cycle, the convertible sports car also known as the Miata is already getting a number of updates, as announced by Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).

The 2018 Mazda Miata will still be available in three trim levels: the entry-level MX-5 Sport, the hardcore MX-5 Club and the most sophisticated of the trio, the MX-5 Grand Touring. For the 2018 model year, the three trim levels will boast of a number of design, performance and functional updates.

Design updates for the 2018 Mazda MX-5 include the availability of a new Dark Cherry and a Black soft top. Likewise, Mazda is adding new color finishes for the exterior palette of the new 2018 MX-5, such as Eternal Blue Mica, Snowflake White Peal Mica and Soul Red Crystal. Mazda MX-5 customers may also avail of the Machine Gray Metallic finish, which was previously exclusive available on MX-5 RF retractable fastback models. Inside, further MX-5 RF Launch Edition-exclusive features are now available for the MX-5 Grand Touring models, like an Auburn-colored interior and Nappa leather seating surfaces.

Eco-conscious BMW fans and enthusiasts could now experience a luxurious and comfortable ride with the freedom of open air, without inflicting harm to the environment. Here comes the new 2019 BMW i8 Roadster, as being unveiled by the German premium carmaker at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Tagged by BMW as the sports car of the future, the new i8 is available in two body variants – the new BMW i8 Roadster and new BMW i8 Coupe. While the BMW i8 Roadster and new BMW i8 Coupe plug-in hybrid models -- employing the much-enhanced BMW eDrive technology – are essentially twins, BMW opted to globally unveil only the open-top version at the 2017 LA Auto Show.

The new BMW i8 Roadster is underpinned by the distinct LifeDrive vehicle architecture and heavily influenced by the BMW i form language. It features a number of model-specific body strengthening elements. It comes with gullwing doors employing the signature lightweight construction of BMW i models. Even its windscreen frame is made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Meanwhile the all-electric soft-top cover could be opened or closed with just a press of a button in only 15 seconds up to speeds of 50 km/h.

As 2017 comes to a close, for sure, many of you are eager to learn what’s in store next year. If Rimac Automobili hasn’t been in your radar, we’re here to tell you that it should be. Have you heard what Rimac has been up to lately?

In case you didn’t know, this is the company that brought us the Concept One. Well, Autoguide has reported earlier that Rimac is hinting of coming out with its own electric roadster. If that plan pushes through, chances are high that Rimac’s electric hypercar could outrun the Tesla Roadster --- both on the road and with regards to the pace of production.

It’s easy to make this conclusion. After all, Rimac’s incredibly powerful Concept One coupe packs an awesome output of 1224hp (918kW) and 1180 (2548 Nm) on tap. It makes sense that the “soon-to-become-Rimac convertible” will be more potent (or at least as powerful) as the preceding coupe version, right?

Have you ever thought about whether Aston Martin would come out with a convertible version of its new 2018 Vantage? At this juncture, no one really knows what the future holds for this model. But we can always hope. Fortunately, there are artists who have the same desire. We all but gasped at what Nikita Aksyonov wants for a possible Aston Martin Vantage Roadster.

It was just the other day when the automaker released the coupe, and already, we have a rendering of it here. And one thing we would say is that the rendered roadster looks just like the coupe, which is a great thing. Aksyonov did not give it a fixed roof, but instead, it will be getting a hard rear deck with a cowled tonneau cover, similar to that of the outgoing Vantage Roadster.

So far, Aston Martin has not mentioned anything about the convertible, when it comes to its release date. However, it took the automaker quite some time (around a year and a half) to follow the new DB11 coupe with the DB11 Volante convertible. So if there will be an actual roadster comes to the market in the near future, we are guessing that it will not be the only variant of the new Vantage, and that there will be others to follow.

We expected to see the BMW i8 Roadster at last month’s 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, but it never made an appearance. So the question on fans’ lips now is when we will actually see the convertible. Rumours are circulating that it might make a debut in just a few weeks, but apparently, a few have already seen it in person.

Online forums like BimmerPost often provide some pretty interesting news, and one of the users mentioned that there was a private showing recently, strongly suggesting that the production i8 Roadster is almost here. And it was in an event in London where BMW allegedly unveiled the new Roadster to a few lucky clients only. We don’t know if these reports are valid, though there are some specific details that we should take note of.

The same user said that the roadster will be having a set of light weight wheels that have a “square” design, and these are supposedly the lightest wheels one could get for the i8, with extremely narrow spokes. He then added that the production version is very much like the concept that was first seen in 2013, in terms of its design.

The first Step WGN was introduced in Japan in the mid-1990s, and the current model is getting a complete makeover in 2015. For this year’s refresh, the massive van’s front fascia will be tweaked, as it gets a new grille with new LED head lights. On the rear, the Step WGN’s tail gate spoiler has been tweaked to make it look sportier. The updates don’t end there. Under the van’s hood will be a dual-motor sport hybrid system, and it will be given a new suspension tuning too.

As for the safety features, all Step WGN models will be getting Honda Sensing safety systems that come as standard. This system includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, Honda LaneWatch. Furthermore, it features blind spot information system, cross traffic monitor, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and many more.

The entire lineup of the Step WGN will include a 1.5 liter turbocharged mill, which doesn’t quite compare to the Spada Hybrid that comes with a 2.0 liter engine for its electric motors. Customers could get it with a front-wheel-drive that comes as standard, but they can also opt for the all-wheel drive - both of these work with a CVT automatic.

While the FJ Cruiser was no longer sold in the US since 2014 with the Trails Teams Edition being its final model, Toyota has now decided to terminate its production altogether. But before the FJ Cruiser takes its final bow, Toyota will first produce the stylish SUV’s Final Edition which is to be offered exclusively in Japan. If you still don’t have it, now is your last chance.

A little over ten years since the FJ Cruiser first came to the US, the SUV will be exclusively sold to its home market as the Final Edition. In other words, you won’t find a single copy of this in the US or anywhere else which makes it even more special. The FJ was available in America from 2007 up to 2014 only. While the Japan-spec has been around for as long as we can remember, the last batch for production will be featuring a special set of 20- inch alloy wheels, a model-exclusive side steps, a redesigned rear bumper with flog lights and a fender mounted left view mirror.

The FJ Cruiser Final Edition, which will only come in all- beige color both at the exterior and the interior will have some few black accents to spice things up a bit. At the same time, the retro-inspired SUV has been enhanced inside and out for a distinctively modern touch. However, some things stayed the same. Like for example, under the hood comes the 4.0-liter V6 gas engine mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to both the SUV’s front and rear wheels. Everything about the exterior still feels very retro, judging by the color and the shape of the vehicle. We could go on by saying there’s nothing quite so modern about its interior too. But changing it entirely will take away the whole essence of the FJ Cruiser.

This is a dream come true for those who were wishing that Automobili Lamborghini would create a roadster version of its Aventador S. Just weeks after Lamborghini introduced the Aventador S Coupe, quite a number of renderings of a possible roadster version surfaced. Back then, an Aventador S roadster was just a dream. But now, Italian carmaker is finally introducing the new 2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster.

Even at a glance, the new Lamborghini roadster is easily recognizable as the open-top version of the Aventador S coupe. After all, the roadster has taken up the unmistakable design of the coupe as influenced by the distinctive Lamborghini design DNA and extensive aerodynamic testing.

From the exterior design – especially the front end and to some extent, the rear end – to the mechanicals, the Aventador S Roadster is a reflection of the Aventador S Coupe, but lacking the fixed roof and with the addition of some hardware to ensure that its occupants could be protected from the weather if needed.
