After releasing images of the new 2019 Jeep Cherokee, the American brand has finally unveiled in metal the world-renowned mid-size sports utility vehicle at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
Serving as an update or a refresh of the fifth generation of the Jeep Cherokee (KL generation), the 2019 iteration of the vehicle features a new, authentic and more premium design that remains faithful to the iconic Jeep styling. As previous images had already shown, the new Jeep Cherokee features an all-new front end that aligns with the mid-size SUV on the premium side of the Jeep family while sporting the iconic Jeep styling.
For instance, the new 2019 Jeep Cherokee now features conventional unified headlights. The new bi-LED projector headlamps have incorporated the signature Cherokee daytime running looks into one fixture, providing a fresh look, allowing the 2019 Cherokee to follow the visual lead of the latest iterations of the Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The new 2019 Cherokee also features dual LED fog lights on the re-sculpted front fascia. Likewise, the new 2019 Cherokee has retained its signature waterfall hood and is mated to the seven-slot grille – signifying the mid-size SUV as a member of the Jeep family – in a single piece. Clean visual lines separate the sloping lightweight aluminum hood from the front fenders.Read the entire article Jeep reveals heavily updated 2019 Cherokee in metal at 2018 Detroit Auto Show
Even before people has become more familiar with the 2018 iteration of the Jeep Cherokee mid-size sport-utility vehicle, the carmaker has already revealed the looks of the SUV for the 2019 model year. The released images are actually teasers for the new 2019 Jeep Cherokee, which will be unveiled at the upcoming 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2019 model year marks a refresh or update of the fifth generation of the Jeep Cherokee (KL generation). This is seen as the main reason why Jeep – or Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in extension – is already creating some hype for the highly successful crossover. Dubbed by Jeep as the most capable SUV, Cherokee will be unveiled on January 16, 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show. According to the carmaker, the refreshed 2019 Jeep Cherokee will have a new, authentic and more premium design. Furthermore, Jeep said that more fuel-efficient powertrain options will be made available for the updated Cherokee.
Spy images had already indicated that the new 2019 Jeep Cherokee would have a new front end design. Nonetheless, it is always wise to wait for the official confirmation from the carmaker regarding design, specs or feature details. In the case of the 2019 Cherokee, the SUV having a new front end was confirmed by Jeep by releasing official images.Read the entire article Jeep releases first images of facelifted 2019 Cherokee before 2018 Detroit Auto Show
Perhaps not a few have mistaken this Wrangler JK Unlimited Rubicon for a Jeep XJ Cherokee. After all, this off-road SUV is a tuned Wrangler with the face of a Cherokee. This is the Jeep XJK Pathkiller, a crossed SUV recently featured at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (2016 SEMA Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Since there has been no one daring enough to significantly change the front end of the Wrangler, it is fairly understandable that nobody would right away recognize the Jeep XJK Pathkiller as a Wrangler if it features the face of a Cherokee. Greg Henderson of Michigan-based custom vehicle builder Unofficial Use Only made good use of his creativity, skills and experience in creating the Pathkiller.
Henderson is already famous in the aftermarket world for his previous vehicle designs. He was then tapped by myTop -- an aftermarket company that retails electric convertible soft tops for Jeep Wranglers – to create something to be displayed at the 2016 SEMA.Read the entire article XJK Pathkiller is a custom Jeep Wrangler with a Cherokee face
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a probe into a possible defect into 50,415 MY2015 Jeep Cherokees after one unit burst into flames two days after purchase. According to a complaint posted on NHTSA’s Web site, the vehicle owner purchased the Cherokee on January 2. Two days after on Jan. 4, the owners noticed an oily smell while driving.
The driver then parked the Cherokee and then white smoke seeped from the hood. Within seconds the entire car was engulfed in fire, with “flames 20 feet high.” According to the complaint, a 50-yard trail of burning oil or fuel ran down the street following the fire.
NHTSA probers are now trying to find out the cause of the incident and the frequency and scope of the potential issue. The agency’s Office of Defect Investigations has also received early-warning report data related to the alleged issue, according to investigation’s opening document posted on its Web site.Read the entire article MY2015 Cherokee fire prompts NHTSA to launch probe
Chrysler's Mopar brand has partnered with 3M to offer customizable map decals for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler or Cherokee. Interested customers could just visit mopar.com/jeephoods where they could design a map that will be installed by a dealer on the hood of their vehicles. The $295 decals can be customized for any location in North America and can show either topography or a street map.
The map emanated from a one-time Jeep that Mopar developed earlier in 2014 and unveiled at the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Pietro Gorlier, global head of the Mopar parts and service brand, remarked that the Jeep featured a topographical map of a famous off-road trail at Moab and was a big hit among enthusiasts at the safari.
Convinced that the map decals would create interest, Gorlier called his supplier, 3M. In collaboration with 3M, Mopar engineers created a system that allows customers to create their own individual maps, have them printed and delivered to dealers where they will be installed.Read the entire article Mopar and 3M create customized map decals for Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Cherokee
Diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee in the United States would have to first nearly double its sales before the brand would consider a domestic diesel-powered version of the smaller Jeep Cherokee, according to Jeep brand chief Mike Manley. Manley disclosed that diesel versions account for around 8 percent of Grand Cherokee sales in the US.
The brand started selling in 2013 a Grand Cherokee powered by the VM Motori 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine. While the diesel version is offered at a $4,500 premium, it offers up to 30 mpg highway.
Manley remarked that there would be a continued increase in market acceptance for the diesel Grand Cherokees. He said that the current share of the diesel version at 8 percent will continue to grow over time.Read the entire article Diesel-powered Cherokee may come to the US if Grand Cherokee Diesel sells very well
Some 2015 Jeep Cherokees and Chrysler 200s will feature engine stop-start as a standard starting later this year. Chrysler Group will feature the technology as standard on the 3.2-liter V-6 versions of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee when it starts building them in the third quarter of this year. The carmaker will also feature the technology in its 2.4-liter inline-four versions of the 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan starting fourth quarter of 2014.
Stop start saves fuel by shutting off the engine when the vehicle brakes to a stop, then restarting it when the driver release his foot from the brake pedal. Chrysler remarked that the addition of stop-start to the Ram 1500 pickup lead to a 1-mpg hike in its city fuel economy rating.
On the other hand, the most fuel-efficient version of the Cherokee receiving the stop-start technology is rated 19 mpg city while the most fuel-efficient Chrysler 200 to get the feature is rated at 23 mpg city.Read the entire article Stop-start tech will be standard in some 2015 Jeep Cherokees and Chrysler 200s
Chrysler Group is still recalibrating the software that operates the nine-speed automatic transmissions the carmaker plans to use for all of its front-wheel-drive vehicles. The carmaker has commenced a new software recalibration for over 100,000 Jeep Cherokees built before May 5, 2014, in order to resolve continuing issues with the shifting of some of the nine-speed gears.
In 2013, Chrysler was forced to delay the rollout of the Cherokee for nearly two months to tweak the software. A May 15 technical service bulletin calls for technicians to implement a five-minute software reset or "reflash" and, in certain cases, an "adaptation drive learn."
This entails test driving a Cherokee for around 78 minutes to ensure that it is shifting properly. Like other electronic transmissions, the nine-speed gearbox learns the driving habits of its main driver, adapting to the shift patterns accordingly.Read the entire article Chrysler issues reflash of transmission software for 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Output of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee was temporarily disrupted on April 17 after around 70 workers at a Piston Automotive site in Toledo, Ohio walked off the job about 9 a.m. over a union dispute. According to Ken Lortz, regional director of the UAW for Ohio, the row is over recognition of the union as the bargaining representative for the site’s workers.
The walkout was first reported byThe Toledo Blade. Piston Automotive produces axles for the 2014 Cherokee at its Toledo site. Lortz told Automotive News that UAW has been seeking union recognition at the site for two months after informing the supplier that it had obtained “an overwhelming majority” of cards from employees seeking union representation.
Lortz remarked that Piston Automotive has so far declined to recognize the cards. Lortz said that the walkout is a validation that workers at Piston Automotive knew what they were signing – that they want to be unionized.Read the entire article Walkout at supplier’s site temporarily disrupts 2014 Jeep Cherokee output

Consumer Reports will not recommend the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, after conducting tests on a Latitude version powered by a 2.4-liter inline-four engine and a Limited variant with a 3.2-liter V-6 powerplant. Consumer Reports described the Cherokee as an "uneven package" and deeming it "half-baked." Consumer Reports said the Latitude was underpowered and "not very fuel efficient."
The influential magazine preferred the Limited than the Latitude because of its advanced active-safety features and infotainment system. The magazine's automotive testing staff found the SUV’s handling an issue, saying that neither vehicle was very agile and the ride was choppy.
Consumer Reports also criticized the SUV’s nine-speed automatic transmission, referring to it as "unrefined" and "unresponsive." The magazine remarked that Cherokee Limited V-6 scored 70 out of 100 points while the Cherokee Latitude scored 56.Read the entire article Consumer Reports will not recommend 2014 Jeep Cherokee
Chrysler Group chief executive Sergio Marchionne has acknowledged mistakes in the development and launch of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, vowing not to commit them again. “We're never going to take a plant down and be out of the market for over a year," Marchionne told analysts in a conference call. He said that Chrysler was “naked in 2013" in the mid-sized SUV segment as dealers have already sold all the 2012 Jeep Libertys last year, numbering 75,483 units.
The Liberty accounted for less than 5 percent of the Chrysler’s total sales in the United States in 2012, which is pegged at 1,651,787 units. The carmaker posted $464 million in profits in the third quarter of 2013, and is expecting a strong performance in the fourth quarter of 2013 to achieve its yearly guidance.
Chrysler commenced producing the Jeep Cherokee on June 24, around a month later than initially planned, at its Toledo Assembly Complex. However, deliveries to dealers only commenced last week.Read the entire article Chrysler CEO admits errors in 2014 Cherokee development and launch
The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been named as a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. In the most recent bout of assessments, this SUV is just one of two vehicles by Chrysler Group to earn the honor. The all-new 2014 Fiat 500L, a ground-breaking four-door, B-segment hatchback, is the other Chrysler Group vehicle that was given this award.
IIHS gave this commendation to a total of 14 models from Chrysler Group in the last 10 months.
The testing required for the Top Safety Pick recognition includes a side impact with a large SUV or pickup truck, roof-crush that could occur with a rollover, front moderate overlap impact, and a rear collision that may result to whiplash.Read the entire article 2014 Jeep Cherokee named Top Safety Pick by IIHS
Chrysler Group has launched a wide-ranging marketing campaign for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee with the showing of a 60-second commercial that focuses on recapturing the lost fun of childhood. The commercial, dubbed as "Built Free," employs images of children playing outdoors over the song “Motherless Children,” sung by Bob Dylan.
A narrator talks about the childhood adventure of discovery and exploring. He then talks how that adventure is replaced by the toils of responsibility and growing up. When the first images of the Cherokee are seen, the narration changes: “Little by little, the world started to feel smaller. Only ... it isn’t. You’re still here. And you’re still you.
The horizons haven’t gone anywhere.” Then the commercial shows images of the Cherokee and adults active in scenic outdoor locations. According to Kim Adams House, head of Jeep advertising, the commercial spot is designed to appeal to buyers in their 30s and 40s. She added that Chrysler will later show commercials touting the Jeep Cherokee's attributes and capabilities.Read the entire article ‘Built Free’ ad marks launch of campaign for 2014 Jeep Cherokee
Chrysler Group is expected to commence in the next 10 days the rolling out of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee to dealerships across the United States, after nearly two months of delay, sources told Automotive News. Chrysler is sending the Cherokees from its Toledo assembly complex to an automotive testing center 15 miles away for a tedious validation process.
Chrysler had decided to postpone the delivery of the Jeep Cherokee sports utility vehicle while it developed and installed new software to smooth out the interaction between the engine, nine-speed transmission and disconnecting drivetrain.
To ensure that the powertrain is working as intended, Chrysler has been test driving each Cherokee before releasing it for delivery – a validation process considered unusual in the industry.Read the entire article Dealers to get 2014 Jeep Cherokee in next 10 days after 2-month delay
The 500 second shift workers at Chrysler’s Toledo assembly went back to work Monday to build the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Chrysler placed the workers on a temporary layoff on September 23, 2013 after it determined that it had built around 12,000 Cherokees that have yet to be sent to dealers pending repairs.
Chrysler has blamed some issues related to the powertrain software for the Cherokee that manages the SUVs powertrain and how it interacts with innovative disconnecting drivetrain.
In a statement, Chrysler has said that they will only introduce a vehicle to consumers when it is “completely satisfied." Chrysler also experienced delays in starting the production of the Cherokee, which had its start of production moved to June 24 from the initial date of May 23.Read the entire article Second shift workers at Chrysler Toledo plant return to work but no Cherokees yet
Chrysler Group has postponed a planned media drive of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that was set between Aug. 8 and 14, 2013 in Seattle due to further tweaks in the vehicle’s powertrain, according to an e-mail from the carmaker sent to Automotive News. The media drive would now occur at least on the first half of September.
Chrysler said that over the last few weeks during final quality and durability testing, they have discovered the “opportunity to further improve powertrain calibration" in the Cherokee. Chrysler, however, vowed to have the 2014 Jeep Cherokee in showrooms in September. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which replaces the Jeep Liberty, is the first Jeep-brand unit underpinned by a Fiat platform.
The Cherokee will also be the first vehicle to use a 9-speed automatic transmission that Chrysler has developed with ZF Friedrichshafen.Read the entire article Chrysler delays 2014 Cherokee media drive to September 2013
