2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport gets Ingenium diesel engines

Land Rover’s Discovery Sport will now be available with the Ingenium diesel engine. The premium compact SUV has been reaping successes ever since it was launched in September 2014 but now, it will be offered with better performance and economy. On the Discovery Sport, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine is meant to offer top-of-the-class torque and power outputs, together with outstanding refinement, lower CO2 emissions and better fuel economy.

Two power outputs will be offered with the EU6-compliant Ingenium engine -- 150PS and 180PS. The new 150PS derivative on the Discovery Sport five seat set-up offers as much as 57.7mpg and has a CO2 emissions figure of 129g/km. Meanwhile, the TD4 180PS in its standard 5+2 configuration emits 139g/km of CO2 and boasts of 53.3 mpg on the combined cycle.

The replacement of the existing diesel engines with these sophisticated engines in EU6 markets guarantees that Discovery Sport will be one of the most efficient models in the premium compact SUV segment available to both private and Fleet & Business buyers.

2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport expected to attract buyers from rival SUVs

Executives at Jaguar Land Rover are expecting the Discovery Sport to bring in more customers to the Land Rover brand, banking on the compact SUV’s more mainstream design, optional seven-seat configuration and improved technology. Joe Eberhardt, chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said that they expect conquest sales to account for up to 70 percent of Discovery Sport buyers.

JLR will start selling the Discovery Sport late this spring, replacing the LR2. Eberhardt remarked that while Discovery Sport is a replacement for the LR2, the new SUV is different in “every conceivable way” -- all-new design, latest Land Rover drivetrain, all-terrain response and nine-speed transmission, as wellas the use of high-strength steel and aluminum.

He said the Discovery Sport will sell considerably better than the LR2. While sales of the LR2 surged 9 percent in 2014, the volume only reached 3,619 units. The Discovery Sport will be pitted against the likes of Audi Q5, which posted sales of 42,420 units last year. According to Land Rover executives, the Discovery Sport could be ordered-specified with seven seats while the Q5 only seats five.

Land Rover officially introduced the all-new 2015 Discovery Sport, the first member of the new Discovery family. Besides a brand new design, the 2015 Discovery Sport also features 5+2 seating but what’s more interesting is that its footprint is no larger than existing 5-seat premium SUVs. As you can see from the photos, the new Land Rover Discovery Sport is inspired by the Discovery Vision Concept but also by the smaller Evoque.

Still, we do like it and we admit that it is a big step comparing it with the predecessor a.k.a. the Freelander. Discovery Sport arrives with plenty of exterior color options such as Fuji White, Santorini Black, Corris Grey, Indus Silver, Loire Blue, Scotia Grey, Kaikoura Stone, Firenze Red, and a limited edition color, Yulong White.
