Lexus LC Convertible Concept unveiled at 2019 Detroit Auto Show

It has been three years since Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, unveiled the LC Coupe at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which is also known as the Detroit Auto Show. Now at the same venue, Lexus is presenting to the global public an open -top study of the LC Coupe – the Lexus LC Convertible Concept.

As the luxury carmaker puts it, the Lexus LC Convertible Concept suggests future direction of its LC flagship. The premium carmaker calls the LC Convertible Concept as an aspirational halo vehicle for the entire Lexus lineup. In terms of looks, the LC Convertible Concept is essentially the LC Coupe without a fixed roof. For three years, not a few have imagine how the LC Coupe would appear if it become a convertible. The LC Convertible Concept is the realization of this imagination in metal.

As Tadao Mori, Chief Designer of the Lexus LC Convertible Concept, quipped, the show car re-imagines the unmistakable design of the LC Coupe as a future convertible. He added that the LC Convertible Concept is a blend all the best aspects of the original LC Coupe, but with the dynamic design of a convertible.

Lexus LC convertible is rumoured to arrive by 2020, LC F may follow

Currently, there aren’t any Lexus convertibles out in the market, but it seems like it won’t be too long until we see one again. This is because Toyota’s premium brand is reportedly thinking of taking the LC’s roof off. These look pretty cool too for a more powerful variant of the coupe as well.

It also seems like the convertible is already a done deal. A source told Auto Express that there has already been a go signal for the production of this model. That being said, it is not scheduled to arrive dealerships until at least two years from now.

Yoshihiro Sawa, the Japanese automaker’s Senior Managing Officer, told Auto Express that their luxury market will definitely require a convertible, and that he hopes to have a convertible in their lineup very soon. So simply said, they have not confirmed the rumours yet.

Lexus considering a new convertible to replace the aging IS Convertible

Lexus introduced the LF-C2 Concept a.k.a. a convertible version of the RC Coupe at the 2014 LA Auto Show, but despite the positive feedback received by the vehicle will not see a production version. According to Jeff Bracken, Lexus Division general manager, the LF-C2 was purely a concept, but sources sat that the Japanese manufacturer is considering whether to produce a convertible version of the RC Coupe or a more exclusive convertible version of the LF-LC Concept unveiled back in 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show.

If the LF-LC convertible is seen as a halo car that will elevate the brand, the RC convertible is seen to bring more customers to the brand. The big question is if the brand wants to support two convertibles.

The bad news is that convertibles are seen as a luxury item and most of the customers are looking for a crossover/SUV. As a result, the Japanese manufacturer will introduce a three-row crossover in order to take on vehicles such as the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7.

The Lexus LF-C2 Concept a.k.a. the convertible version of the RC Coupe made quite a buzz at the 2014 LA Auto Show, but don’t make any plans folks as the Japanese manufacturer will not offer such a vehicle. Apparently, dealers requested for a three-row crossover and that’s why, the company had to put on hold the RC convertible.

So, Lexus is working on a three-row crossover, but what’s more interesting is that the upcoming vehicle will not use an extended version of the RX’s wheelbase, but the one used by the upcoming LS flagship sedan.

The rear-wheel-drive platform will allow Lexus to take on competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GL, Audi Q7 and the Infiniti QX80. Regarding its debut, the new Lexus crossover will arrive in three years, as a 2018 model year.

Beautiful sun, warm temperatures, and winding roads are perfect matches for the Lexus LF-C2 concept, which globally debuted at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The LF-C2 concept is a study in design for a 2+2 roadster and surveys major style motifs informing the brand's future, more daring style direction. Also, the LF-C2 is a luxury Grand Touring concept with inspiration from Lexus’s driving passion.

The LF-C2 concept demonstrates what's planned for the brand's future design language. This concept car illustrates to consumers every Lexus' dedication to dramatic designs as well as the company’s passion for an extraordinary drive experience.

The LF-C2 concept encompasses a highly stylised 2+2 arrangement derived from a purely simple sports coupe vision. Its design is open-air, allowing drivers and passengers to feel the wind in their hair, enjoying the vehicle’s performance on their favourite snaking road. As a roadster concept, there is not top cover to the LF-C2’s cabin.

Lexus is ramping up its production to meet consumer demand in the midst of its US marketing blitz for the 2010 IS-C. Each month, about 1,200 cars roll off the Kyushu factory, but it's just "barely enough," according to a Lexus official.

Introduced last October at the Paris Motor Show, the IS-C, a hardtop convertible, is finally in full swing in the US.

Wards Auto reports that Lexus is taking extra care in managing the supply. Scott Wracher, Lexus's general manager for the Eastern area of the U.S, said, "I don't think we're going to outstrip demand with our build rate.

The latest Lexus RX 450h, which was revealed at the LA Auto Show last year and previewed at a first drive event early this year, has finally received a price tag.

Together with the RX 450h, the latest IS Convertible has likewise received a sticker price, and both begin in the neighborhood of $40,000, with the RX at $41,660 and the $5,000 less for its non-hybrid brother.

It is still an open question whether this price difference reflect value considering the small difference in fuel efficiency, but certainly the 350 does not have the green image that the 450h projects.

The 2019 Detroit Auto Show – formally known as the North American International Auto Show – is standing witness to the debut of the refreshed iteration of the Lexus RC F coupe. However, making it debut alongside the RC F coupe is a version designed to live on the tracks. We are talking about the new Lexus RC F Track Edition.

Essentially, the Lexus RC F Track Edition is a more hardcore version of the RC F. The RC F, in turn, is the sportier edition of Lexus’ entry level RC coupe that was unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. That makes the RC F Track Edition the sportiest and most hardcore evolution of the RC coupe.

The Lexus RC F coupe is differentiated from the RC by a number of performance-related upgrades, just like better suspension, greater power and aerodynamics. The same is true with the RC F Track Edition, as this version is laden with precisely engineered upgrades that help push its performance to a whole new level. For instance, compared to the RC F, the RC F Track Edition is lighter and definitely has larger wings.

It is an open secret that many of Lexus’ vehicle offering are or were derived from an existing Toyota product. This isn't really surprising considering that Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota. This means that an existing model from Toyota could have a Lexus version in the future. Would that hold true for the Toyota Alphard luxury minivan?

While Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota, the latter also builds its own luxury vehicles. The Toyota Alphard -- named after the brightest star in the constellation Hydra -- is one of these luxury vehicles. Also known as the Toyota Vellfire, the Alphard luxury minivan is available either as a seven-seater or an eight-seater. Aside from the usual gasoline version, the Alphard is also available as a hybrid, employing Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology.

The Alphard could be a viable candidate for “adoption” at Lexus. After all, a number of Toyota models had been adopted Lexus. For instance, the Lexus RX and IS were originally derived from the Toyota Harrier and Altezza, respectively. Likewise, the Lexus GX and LX were originally derived from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser. In addition, the Lexus ES was derived initially from the Toyota Camry, and then from the Avalon.

After revealing the coupe version of the 2019 BMW 8 Series, the German premium carmaker is introducing its convertible version. The 2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible is essentially the Coupe with its roof chopped off, with some modifications made to make way for its electrically folding soft top. BMW will unveil the new 8 Series Convertible to the global public at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month.

In terms of appearance, the 2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible is almost identical to the 8 Series Coupe, aside from the fact that the latter’s hard top has been removed and replaced by an electrically folding soft top. This top can be fully deployed in just 15 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph (48 km/h). It takes the same amount of time and vehicle speed to remove the soft top down.

Once the soft is down, it is stowed underneath a rear deck which stitching is matched to the instrument panel and door panels. In addition, the cover for the 2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible comes with subtle nacelles evoking the double-bubble roof design of the Coupe. To ensure that less wind enters the cabin when the soft top is down, the 2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible comes fitted with standard wind deflector as located behind the front seats.

Lexus could be saying goodbye to the present generation of its LX luxury sports utility vehicles through a new exclusive model. Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show this month is the new 2019 Lexus LX Inspiration Series.

The hard truth with the Lexus LX is that the third generation of the luxury SUV has been in production since the 2008 model year. That makes the third-gen LX a 10-year old model, with latest refresh done around three years ago. Nonetheless, the LX luxury SUV managed to prove that it can be an inspiration for customers seeking a higher-level driving experience. To celebrate that, the 2019 Lexus LX Inspiration Series is bound to be unveiled at the upcoming 2019 LA Auto Show.

In this new guise, 2019 Lexus LX Inspiration Series is wrapped in a stealth Black Onyx exterior finish as complemented elegantly by a black front grille with a dark chrome surround. In addition, the new LX Inspiration Series comes with headlamps, foglights and windows with black trim, as well as smoked headlamp lenses. The dark theme is also evident on the rear section as the taillamps, license plate and back door all feature black chrome accents. Completing the dark theme of the new LX Inspiration Series are its 21-inch black alloy wheels with black center caps.

Using cameras to replace the rear and side mirrors isn't something new. However, this technology is usually found on concept vehicles and some exotic cars. But at Lexus, this technology will be installed on one of its premium sedans starting October this year.

Lexus is introducing the world' first Digital Outer Mirrors, which will initially be fitted on the new 2019 Lexus ES. Digital Outer Mirrors make use of small exterior cameras on the front doors. They are mounted on stalks that swell on the place where conventional side mirrors are usually found.

The cameras send images onto displays – each monitor measuring five inches diagonally– inside the cabin, as positioned at the base of the front pillars. Instead of looking through the windows onto the side mirrors, a driver just have to view the images on the displays. This means that the driver’s view of the sides and the rear of the cars aren’t compromised when the windows are dirty or hazy.
