Dua Lipa’s Be the One music video showcases 2017 Lexus IS with 41,999 LEDs

As if stuffing the trunk of the Lexus IS 300 with 43 chili sauce bottles aren’t good enough, Lexus is at it again by dressing up an IS sedan for yet another “dramatic entrance.”

If you see a car draped in colourful lights, well, you aren’t imagining things. It’s the new Lexus IS with 41,999 programmable LEDs. For those who want to catch a glimpse of what the “Lit IS” looks like, Lexus featured the spectacular custom vehicle in Dua Lipa’s “Be the One” music video.

One-off Sriracha Lexus IS 300 show car is on the hot seat at 2016 LA Auto Show

The Lexus IS 300 five-passenger luxury sport sedan is nothing short of hot. It is sizzling with performance-laden power thanks to a 3.5-liter V6 engine that provides 255 hp of max output and 236 lb-ft of peak torque available between 2,000 rpm and 4,800 rpm. It is also oozing with luxury and sportiness. Hot indeed!

To make the Lexus IS 300 much hotter – at least in terms of looks -- the people at Lexus collaborated with Huy Fong Foods, a known maker of the iconic Sriracha chili sauce. No, they don’t plan to pour Sriracha chili sauce onto a Lexus IS 300. That would be an insane idea.

But wait, Lexus did actually try to add Sriracha onto the paint that would serve as the exterior finish of this one-off Lexus IS 300 all-wheel-drive sedan. Insane as it is, but sometimes crazy ideas are needed to achieve something fresh and appealing, especially if it is to catch the attention of visitors to the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show being held at the LA Convention Center. And Lexus sure did turn many heads with this creation.

Lexus puts cardboard IS saloon Origami Car on exhibit

Lexus has long been known to make cars that display human craftsmanship skills. In celebration, the brand has come out with a new model: the Lexus Origami Car. An authentic replica of the IS saloon, it is a Lexus like it has never been seen before.

Instead of the usual plastic, glass, and sheet metal, the Origami Car is a life-size model that uses precision-cut cardboard as the main material. At the production line of Lexus, this skillfull group of people, also known as takumi, work to improve their dexterity skills through origami.

They learn how to fold paper and turn it an origami model cat. The catch is that they do it using their non-dominant hand. This talent is made use of in the making of the Origami Car but it has been taken to a much higher level.

Lexus considering a new convertible to replace the aging IS Convertible

Lexus introduced the LF-C2 Concept a.k.a. a convertible version of the RC Coupe at the 2014 LA Auto Show, but despite the positive feedback received by the vehicle will not see a production version. According to Jeff Bracken, Lexus Division general manager, the LF-C2 was purely a concept, but sources sat that the Japanese manufacturer is considering whether to produce a convertible version of the RC Coupe or a more exclusive convertible version of the LF-LC Concept unveiled back in 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show.

If the LF-LC convertible is seen as a halo car that will elevate the brand, the RC convertible is seen to bring more customers to the brand. The big question is if the brand wants to support two convertibles.

The bad news is that convertibles are seen as a luxury item and most of the customers are looking for a crossover/SUV. As a result, the Japanese manufacturer will introduce a three-row crossover in order to take on vehicles such as the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7.

Although it was an impressive sports car and we were amazed by the sound of its V8 engine, the Lexus IS F was not quite popular and the 11,000 units sold from 2007 until today confirm it. As a result, the Dutch media found out from Lexus that the IS F has been discontinued.

The IS F uses a 5.0-liter V8 engine that generates 517 hp at 6,600 rpm and 505 Nm (372 lb-ft) of torque.

With these numbers, the vehicle is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 270 km/h or 168 mph. The Lexus RC F Coupe will be the replacement for the IS F.

Lexus was the best-selling carmaker in the United States for 11 years until 2011. Now, the market has been dominated by German luxury carmakers for three years in a row, with BMW pacing the pack. But Lexus is slowly but surely catching up. In fact, Lexus outsold Mercedes-Benz in May for the second time in five months.

It also managed to trim the lead of BMW to around 12,000 units in the year to date. The luxury unit of Toyota Motor Corp. might be able to trim the gap further as it is set introduce this year its first compact crossover, the NX, and the RC sports coupe.

Mark Templin, executive vice president of Lexus, told Bloomberg in an interview that the volume is not their goal, but “to do the right things." He said that it was nice to know that consumers are responding to the newly launched products.

Although the 2014 Lexus IS 250 sedan is a beautiful car in our opinion and we do like it a lot, it appears that Consumper Reports magazine managed to find some issues with it regarding fuel economy and handling. Priced from $36,860 including destination and handling taxes, the 2014 Lexus IS 250 is, according to Consumer Reports, neither sporty or luxurious and has the worst road test score posted by any Lexus sedan in the recent memory.

Regarding the handling, Consumer Reports says that it is short on finesse and the road noise is elevated. The magazine tested the model equipped with the 2.5-liter V6 engine rated at 204 hp.

Brian Lyons, a Toyota spokesman, told the reporters from Automotive News that the company will discuss with Consumer Reports in order to get more direct feedback on their experience with the car.

Lexus was the best-selling luxury carmaker in the United States from 2000 to 2010. Natural disasters in Japan in 2011 -- earthquake and tsunami -- however led to inventory and supplies problems, eventually resulting to lower sales in the US in the year. As a result, Lexus lost its dominant position in the US in 2011 and 2012, giving way to erstwhile followers BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

But Lexus is not finished yet in the US. Toyota's luxury division is aiming to crawl its way back to the top by first introducing a refreshed model and launching a corresponding advertising campaign.

This summer, Lexus is rolling out the redesigned 2014 IS model. To enhance the vehicle's appeal to younger luxury-car buyers, Lexus is employing aggressive ads from agency Team One. One of the TV spots for 2014 IS says, "You can choose to blend in. Or you can choose to blend out. It's your move."

The 2014 Lexus IS looks and is actually more expensive than the outgoing model but it comes with several amazing features that are offered as standard. The new 2014 IS250 RWD has a starting price of $36,845, which is $885 more expensive than the former model. The 2014 model gets standard equipment like high-intensity discharge headlights and a new touchscreen audio system standard, which were both offered as options on the old model.

Lexus claims that the new model comes with $1400 as optional equipment, which means that the $885 price increase is actually a $515 drop in price.

IS250 RWD features a six-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive and is powered by a 2.5-liter V-6 engine with an output of 204hp. The IS250 AWD, which is $2535 more expensive, comes with an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system. Lexus IS 300h promises to provide customers with cost of ownership advantages that could not be matched by other 2.0-litre diesel premium saloon models. This is all thanks to the Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, which offers a good mix of low maintenance, low running costs as well as tax benefits and incentives.

Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain offers exceptional fuel economy and low emissions. A Lexus IS 300h SE model boasts of being able to travel 65.7 miles per gallon of fuel while just emitting 99 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer traveled. Lexus engineered the IS 300h’s hybrid system for durability and low maintenance requirements.

The premium saloon has no clutch while its starter motor and alternator are integrated into the system, thus there is no need for servicing or replacement during its lifetime. The Lexus IS 300h also uses a maintenance-free timing chain, instead of a timing belt. This modification means that a customer could incur lower servicing bills as well as savings on replacement parts.

The new Lexus IS 300h full hybrid will debut in Europe next month at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model was first seen at the recently held Detroit Motor Show. It is equipped with a petrol-electric hybrid system and is due to go on sale in the UK in the summer. Lexus is expected to boost the sportier driving dynamics of the IS 300h, which will be available with a performance-orientated F Sport package.

A review of the rear-drive Lexus IS 300h in pre-production form was already submitted by Autocar. Powering the IS 300h is a combination of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and electric motor h. The new Lexus IS, which was just presented at the Detroit Auto Show, will not be available with a diesel engine. Instead, this engine has been replaced with a petrol-electric hybrid that boasts of having a CO2 emissions level that’s less than 100g/km of CO2. This new car will start selling this summer in the UK.

Powering the IS is either a 2.5-litre petrol V6 in the IS 250 or a combination of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and electric motor in the IS 300h. This is the same hybrid system that’s found under the hood of the Japanese market Toyota Crown. In this car, the engine delivers 163lb ft and 175bhp, and the motor delivers 141bhp and 221lb ft. When combined, the system offers 217bhp and Lexus is hoping to attain a fuel consumption rating of more than 65mpg.

The IS 250 and 300h are both rear-wheel drive, with the 250 pushing the wheels with the use of a six-speed auto.

After yesterday’s leaked photos, Lexus officially unveiled the brand new 2014 IS. Moreover, the Japanese manufacturer announced that the 2014 Lexus IS will make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show on January 15. Just like the outgoing version, the new IS model range will include the IS 250, IS 350 and for the first time, the IS 300h hybrid model.

F SPORT models will be available across the full range. The first photos revealed by the manufacturer show the all-new new IS 250/350 F SPORT. Lexus Division is set to unveil its redesigned 2014 Lexus IS sedan at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January 2013. The Lexus IS sedan is built with the same platform and powered by the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine with the longer GS sedan. However, the Lexus IS has its own 2.5-liter V-6 entry-level engine. When the GS underwent a major redesign this year, much of its architecture and powertrain were carried over.

The major changes for the GS include design and technical refinements, like increased body rigidity. Consumer could expect similar changes for the Lexus IS, with the addition of a more tightly tuned and more casually styled F-Sport model. According to Lexus, the production IS will have design cues of the LF-CC coupe concept that was unveiled at the Paris auto show in October.

The IS competes in the rear-drive compact sedan segment dominated by the BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C class, Audi A4 and Infiniti G.

It has become obvious from recent reports that the next Lexus IS would be very different from its current appearance. Peter Evans, a marketing manager at Lexus Australia, said that Lexus can’t just be evolutionary, considering that it’s a challenger brand and is currently at No. 4 in sales. It’s expected that the new IS would be sportier and will offer an improved performance.

It’s possible that the new IS will be built on the GT86 platform, which could lead to a coupe variant that’s a lot sportier. Costs would be reduced if the current platform is used. In fact, revising the frame to fit the IS would be a costly process. He said that an IS F is likely to be presented in the future. It’s also probably going to use the GT86 chassis. Ketan Renade, Lexus product planner for the ES and LS, said that they realize that they have to focus on the IS.

He said that the IS won’t be like its rivals that have a great performance as well as luxury ride. Rather, the IS will get a wider more aggressive stance. It would also be its most drastically designed spindle grille so far. Due to its sales positioning, the Lexus designers now offer plenty of room that will make the IS totally evolutionary.

The RX F SPORT features an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension with performance dampers. It was meant to engage driving enthusiasts. Lexus is currently working on the makeover for its model range but as the IS range (including a sedan and convertible) got a facelift last year, there are no major revisions announced for the 2012 upgrade. Consumers have two engine units to choose from: a standard 2.5-liter V-6 in the IS 250 that delivers 204hp and the 3.5-liter V-6 in the IS 350 that has an output of 306hp.

The European model has Euro 5 compliancy for the top-of-the-line IS-F version, which is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with an output of 423 hp.

This enables the model to sprint from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 270 km/h (168mph), similar to the previous version.
