Rumored Lexus LC F hardcore performance coupe to offer 621 hp from a bi-turbo V8

As soon as Toyota trademarked the names “LC F” and “Lexus LC F” at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, speculations have emerged that there could actually be a hardcore performance version of the Lexus LC 2+2 coupe. Just recently, an insider within Lexus has divulged to a Japanese automotive magazine that the LC F hardcore coupe could offer up to 621 hp of output.

In an interview with Japan’s Holiday Auto magazine – and as posted by Japan’s Lawrence Motorcycle X Car – the Lexus insider disclosed that the LC F would be taking on the formula of more power and less weight to offer a high level of performance without any compromise in luxury. This formula entails the employment of a powerful biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that could deliver around 621 hp (463 kW).

The formula also entails the intensive use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer, a material that isn't just strong and rigid, but is also light and easy to shape. According to the Lexus insider, this weight-saving measure is being adopted on the LC F as the carmaker aims to make the hardcore performance car seven percent lighter than the LC coupe. 600 hp Lexus LC F rumored to premiere at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show

Barely a month ago, a trademark was filed for a new Lexus LC F. That alone hints that something is up for the Japanese automotive brand. This early, it does look like Lexus is armed and ready for the upcoming 2017 Tokyo Auto Show this Fall. As it turns out, an unnamed insider from Toyota’s luxury division had spoken with Car and Driver and shared a few intriguing details on the supposed high-performance F variant.

The source said that the new LC F will have a more aggressive design to go with the more powerful engine underneath its hood. It sure is a good thing when you stumble upon a news feed where torque curves and power boost are also on the cards, don’t you think?

According to the source, the new LC F will not be using any of the LC 500h’s 354hp, 3.5-liter V6 electrified power unit nor it will have the LC 500’s 471hp 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 machinery. Rather, it would come with the latest 4.0-liter V8 turbocharger capable of delivering an impressive 600 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Toyota trademarks LC F and Lexus LC F, a hardcore LC could be coming

When Lexus unveiled the LC sports coupe, quite a number of people were already wishing that it would have a performance version. It is not that the LC 500 coupe isn’t much of a performer. In fact, Lexus has described the new LC as its new flagship 2+2 performance coupe. However, a more hardcore version of the Lexus LC would be a very welcome proposition. How we wish – just like many – that such LC version would be on its way.

Just recently, speculations have arisen that Lexus might be planning or is already working on a hardcore version of the LC performance coupe. These speculations were brought to the air by the fact that Lexus’ parent – Japanese auto giant Toyota Motors Corp. – has applied for the trademark of the names “LC F” and “Lexus LC F” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Since the LC was created in order to expressly highlight the premium brand’s sporting credentials and its new focus on dynamism, Lexus creating a more hardcore F version wouldn’t be a surprise. In fact, would be a natural and logical step to take, considering that its other coupes like the Lexus RC, also received an F version.

However, we will be quick to point out that a trademark application for a certain name doesn’t really amount to using it. A carmaker may file to trademark a certain name because it intends to realize it into an actual vehicle. However, the opposite could also be true – there could really be no plans to use that name on a certain vehicle in the near term. That carmaker may simply want to protect that name, thereby preventing other companies from using it.

More than a year after introducing the widely acclaimed ATS GT prototype at the at the luxurious Salon Privé exhibit, Automobili Turismo e Sport (ATS) has finally presented the final and production version of the supercar – the new ATS GT Launch Edition -- at the prestigious 2018 Monterey Car Week at The Quail.

The ATS GT Launch Edition takes inspiration from the 1964 ATS 2500 GT, a small coupe designed by Franco Scaglione, developed by ATS co-founders Giotto Bizzarrini and Carlo Chiti, and built more than 50 years ago. Back then, ATS only built 12 examples of the 2500 GT. As it seeks to honor the original model, ATS is also building 12 examples of the new GT Launch Edition.

Designed by ATS chief designer Emanuele Bomboi, the new ATS GT Launch Edition boasts of an aerodynamic bodywork -- made of carbon fiber – that reinterprets the original design of the 2500 GT. It features unique side-blades and seemingly floating rear lights. These rear lights are designed to extract the hot air from the engine bay. The GT Launch Edition makes use of the company’s Sistema-Trio hand-welded titanium with mufflers.

While the German sports car maker has confirmed that it would build a hybrid version of the Porsche 911 sports car, that won't happen in the near term. For those who can’t wait for Porsche to offer a 911 hybrid, Vonnen Performance is offering to convert your sports car into one.

Porsche’s main reason for not offering a hybrid version of the 911 is that the German company still doesn’t believe that the current battery technology is on par with its expectations for its venerated sports car. But with the rapid pace that the battery technology is growing, that could happen in the next few years. Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume had said that a 911 hybrid may arrive on the mid-cycle refresh of the 992 generation, which should happen by around 2022 or so.

Because Porsche won't do a 911 hybrid now, Vonnen Performance is offering to do so for 911 models built between 2012 and 2016. This also applies for other Porsche offerings currently not having a hybrid version, like the Boxster and the Cayman. The conversion kit and the entire setup would cost a Porsche owner around $75,000.

October 2019 is an important month for Nissan. It marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary 240Z, which is the original Z model from the Japanese carmaker. As part of the celebrations, Nissan is planning to unveil a new Z car – in prototype form -- at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, which coincides with the 50th year of the very first Z model.

This was basically confirmed by Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design, during an interview with Whichcar.com.au. Before this confirmation, there had been rumors that Nissan is planning a replacement for the 370Z, which has been in production since nearly 10 years ago. This decade-old two-seater rear-wheel-drive coupe is considered as one of the oldest sports car available in the market. A replacement would hardly surprise anyone, but back then, Nissan had yet to confirm anything.

During an interview with Whichcar.com.au, Albaisa remarked that is a huge pressure in creating a new Z car, adding that he is completely excited that he is in the position to work on the newest Z model. His statement essentially confirmed the rumors and the possibility of a new Z car. This also confirmed that no less than Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design is involved in the project. Mercedes-AMG only came out with the E43 lineup a few years ago, and already, the said model is ready to retire the badge so they could give way for the arrival of the electrified E53 family. As for the design, it gets most of its inspiration from the iconic F40, from which the three layer metallic red paint also draws impulse. This paint job marks a radical departure from the language aesthetic of the donor car. It also has a twin turbo, twin intercooler set-up.

When you give the front end a closer look, you will notice that it has a pair of unusual headlights, which were especially designed for the SP38. Subaru WRX and WRX STI fans will soon have a new special edition trim available when the 2019 model year debuts. These will be called Series.Gray and they will be available on both models. Sometime around the end of last month, Subaru announced the 2019 WRX and WRX STI and shared with us most of the details of the Series Gray models. The Series Gray WRX was built off the WRX Premium trim that includes the Performance Package. New features include ultrasuede trimmed Recaro seats, eight-way power driver’s seat, JURID front brake pads, a moonroof delete, LED fog lights, keyless entry with push button start, and LED steering responsive headlights. The special edition will only be available with a six speed manual transmission. The WRX Series Gray comes with a price tag of $32,595.

If you are the type of person who would not settle for something common or usual, or want a more unique WRX STI, then the Series Gray may be right for you. When looking at it from the exterior, the package gets a Cool Gray Khaki paint, exclusive Crystal Black Silica badging, foldable exterior mirror, and 19 inch alloy wheels finished in black. The Brembo brakes have a silver finish with a black STI logo. As you move into the interior, you will notice black Ultrasuede with carbon black leather bolster and ultrasuede steering wheel with red stitching which are all standard.
