How does the 2018 Lexus LS compare against German premium sedans?

When the latest Lexus LS flagship sedan was unveiled at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, it managed to turn several heads and capture the attention of the world. With its stunning looks and premium specs, the new Lexus LS 500 is expected to revolutionize anew the luxury vehicle sector, just like what the first LS managed to do decades ago.

But how would the new Lexus LS sedan stack up against comparably sized Germany rivals in the luxury segment, like the BMW 740i, Mercedes-Benz S550 and the Audi A8 L 3.0T?

So, our verdict? While the Lexus LS 500 seems to be a good proposition, its price has yet to be announced and its performance is still as good as printed in a paper. For now, the LS 500 wins, until we could really try being behind the wheels of all of these premium sedans.

Updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class can project driving aid symbols onto the road ahead

The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been known to be more than just luxurious as it is also prestigious and exclusive. Now, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been updated to feature a distinct and revolutionary lighting technology, as unveiled to the global public at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Image projection is not a new concept in cars. So-called heads up display (HUD) uses light to project images onto the windshield just in front of the driver. The projected image by the HUD system features various information considered as relevant to the functions of the vehicle. This lighting concept is taken into another level by the groundbreaking revolutionary headlamp technology Digital Light. While other headlamps just illuminate the road ahead, Digital Light also projects certain symbols – in HD quality -- directly in the field of vision, serving as a visual aid to the driver of a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Likewise, the projected symbols serve as communication with the surroundings.

This marks the first time that Digital Light is employed in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Digital Light will be soon entering small series production in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, with only a select few of its fleet customers taking delivery of the symbol-project luxurious flagship in the first half of 2018.

2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is refreshed to be more luxurious and longer

For those of you who have extremely high standards, the Mercedes-Benz S Class may not be opulent enough for you. And this is the reason why the automaker decided to make the high class sedan a notch more luxurious with its Maybach variant. This model will make an appearance at next month’s 2018 Geneva Motor Show, before it goes on sale in the United States in the late summer of 2018.

What makes this variant stand out from its siblings would be the new grille that uses vertical slats, instead of the regular horizontal ones. On the lower fascia, you will find a metallic trim that gives the vehicle a flashier look.

The most prominent change here, however, would be the car’s profile. The 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class now measures 215 inches (5,461 millimeters) long, while riding on a 132.5 inch (3,365.5 mm) wheelbase. This is a whopping 10 inches (254mm) increase than even the long-wheelbase S-Class Sedan. Having said that, passengers should have a lot more leg room in the cabin.

Mercedes’ self-driving S-Class sedan is being tested through China’s tricky highways

For those of you who have been to China, you have probably noticed that their highways are very different from those in the United States and Europe. For example, each lane in China has a different speed limit. But there are many other challenges and as a result, even visitors will have to obtain local driving licenses in order to drive there.

Now, with its variations and unfamiliar rules, you would probably wonder how autonomous or driverless cars would work, right? It’s even more complicated for cars that were developed and tested in Europe and the United States. So what exactly will happen if a car made from the west was brought to the east? Well, Mercedes-Benz tried it out and has found out. Two months ago, the German automaker started its Intelligent World Drive campaign during the Frankfurt Motor Show, and they boasted that one of its features is that the autonomous driving function adapts to other countries’ ways of driving.

It was the self-driving S-Class that Mercedes-Benz brought to Shanghai, and it was tested on the streets to gather an insight of the real-life traffic and driving situations of China. This information is tasked to help develop the technology.

Lexus stunned the motoring world in January this year when it unveiled the fifth generation of its Lexus LS flagship sedan (2018 model year) at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. Around nine months forward, Lexus is unveiling a more futuristic yet achievable concept version of the LS luxury sedan – laden with a wide array of technological elements – at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.

Introducing the Lexus LS+ Concept, a study of flagship’s future form as loaded with state-of-the-art technologies. As Lexus sees the new LS+ Concept, this study was developed to symbolize its vision for the future, especially when it is fitted with automated driving technologies that the luxury carmaker plans to apply in its flagship sedan by the end of the decade (2020).

In terms of design, the LS+ Concept is derived from the latest generation of the Lexus LS flagship sedan, particularly with regards to its shape. However, compared to the 2018 LS sedan, the LS+ Concept comes with a more futuristic front and rear ends. After all, the LS+ Concept provides a glimpse into the new design direction of the next generation of Lexus vehicles, as derived from the brand’s L-finesse*3 design philosophy.

While Mercedes-Benz, through its AMG unit, is toying with its Project One hypercar, it has unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show the newest and cleaner addition to its S-Class model range – the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560e next-generation plug-in hybrid.

Meant to replace the S500e plug-in hybrid of the pre-Facelift S-Class, the new Mercedes S560e boasts of having more power and being able to travel longer distances. These capabilities are centered on the S560e’s more dynamic hybrid drive system that employs a more powerful V6 engine and electric motor as well as a higher capacity lithium-ion battery.

The hybrid system that propels the new Mercedes S560e makes use of a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 270 kW (367 hp) of max output and 500 Nm (369 lb.-ft) of peak torque. For other vehicles, this amount of power is already enough, but Mercedes has adjudged that this conventional mill wasn’t enough to make the S560e not just powerful, but also efficient. As a plug-in hybrid, the new S560e also makes use of an electric motor – developed in collaboration with Bosch -- that generates up to 90 kW of output and 440 Nm of instant torque.

Before the end of April, Lexus filed for a trademark with the name “LS-FC Concept” that’s for use on “automobiles and structural parts thereof”.

Does this mean that we will finally see the rumored hydrogen-fueled LS model? It has been years since the rumour started. We had learned that an LS model is soon to make its debut after the launch of the LF-FC concept, which was supposed to be a preview of the next-generation LS.

If the rumours are true, then the LS would use a variant of the Toyota Mirai powertrain, with an all-wheel drive that has four separate electric motors powering each corner. The company hasn’t been sharing details regarding this issue just yet.

Japanese automaker Lexus recently unveiled its all new flagship sedan, the 2018 LS 500. The eye candy vehicle made its debut in Detroit and will be followed by the hybrid LS 500h in Geneva Auto Show. Geared for unveiling in New York will be the next level LS 500 F Sport treatment that allegedly boasts of modified design from its predecessor, chassis tuning and more stopping power.

Since its debut 30 years ago, the Lexus LS has stood out from its rival thanks to its power and ride qualities, making it the smoothest and the quietest in the global market. However, the Lexus LS 500 F Sport isn't made to be the most performance conforming vehicle coming from Lexus- unlike the F models that are the GS F and RC F.

The F Sport is more of a middle ground performer between Lexus cars and the F models. But don't be fooled as this sports car also packs a punch. Lexus' F sport packages are made for regular units and offers sharper handling aside from ensuring utmost comfort for the driver and its passengers.

The German automobile manufacturer powerhouse Mercedes-Benz is on the brink of fully launching the mid-cycle upgrade of its flagship vehicle around April. Included in the press release from Mercedes-Benz regarding the plan for the S-Class lineup to be a level 2 autonomous vehicle are several images of parts of its interior. These have been hidden in plain sight all along.

In the previous months, there were leaked images of the S-Class Facelift that were published online, and the alterations are noticeable. A cleaner front bumper was revealed with a chrome bar fitted across the bumper. Also, the grill and the multibeam lead headlamps were shown to the public.

But only recently has the interior been clearly seen, and it is the perfect treat to us who are all too keen to see any aspect of its interior. Sadly, it doesn’t show all the anticipated changes. The overall look and outline of the dash, its location, the proportion of the display and the controls of the center console appear to be the same.

It can be recalled that Lexus made a promise to bring the most engaging driving experience on the new LS sedan. The GA-L platform, after all, happens to have the stiffest chassis it has ever developed in years.

Lexus stunned the audience at the 2017 North American International Auto Show with its fifth-generation 2018 Lexus LS flagship sedan. The new generation of Lexus’ flagship sedan raised the bar of what a luxury vehicle should be – challenging the norm with its exquisite design, new levels of interior values and outstanding performance elements.

The Lexus LS unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show was the LS 500, which has at its core a new 3.5-liter V6 engine with Formula One-derived twin turbochargers. This new engine is touted to be more powerful than the V8 powerplant seen in the fourth-gen LS sedan, yet it remains fuel-efficient with minimized levels of vibration. This new V6 engine is tuned to develop 415 hp of max output and 442 lb.-ft. of peak torque, with power sent to the rear wheels or to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Now, Lexus is taking this level of efficiency to a whole new level – by offering a new hybrid version of its LS flagship sedan. No, Lexus hasn’t unveiled the hybridized LS sedan, bound to be called as the LS 500h. However, speculating on overall design and powertrain of the LS 500h should be easy, given the availability of information existing on the new generation of Lexus vehicles.

The kingdom of Lexus’ premium luxury is now in the hands of fifth-generation royalty. Lexus has introduced the latest representation of its finest qualities – the first generation of the LS flagship sedan – at the 2017 North American International Auto Show.

Just like the original LS premium sedan, the fifth-gen 2018 Lexus LS flagship challenges the norm not only with its exquisite design but also by offering whole new levels of interior values and performance elements. In short, the fifth-gen flagship sedan raises the bar on what a luxury vehicle should be.

Making all of these possible is Lexus’ all-new global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA–L), which was first seen on the new generation 2017 Lexus LC 500 coupe. During the development of the LC 500, the Japanese premium carmaker made sure that is not just about creating a new coupe, and is building the start of a new phase for the brand, reflecting the shift in terms of design principles and the engineering methods.

Second-hand or used cars are usually appreciated because of their lower prices. Some used-car buyers hit the jackpot when they chance upon a car that has been well maintained and managed – and with less than 10,000 km on the odometer sold at a low price.

However, there are used cars that even go beyond their book value simply because they were formerly owned by famous celebrities – like athletes, actors or actresses, singers, talk show hosts, local heroes or even politicians. Fans and collectors would surely line up to get such vehicles even at a price higher than their book values.

But what if that car used to ferry the current top man of the Russian Federation in his first term as the second president of the country? As the private seller (a certain Sergei Urov) claims, this GUARD Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman used to be one of the rides of current Russia President of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. And this limousine-type vehicle is being sold at mobile.de -- which tags itself as the largest online vehicle market in Germany – for a whopping $1.3 million, which could be around ten times than the normal worth of a car of this type.
