Lexus will go for a three-row crossover instead of offering the RC convertible

The Lexus LF-C2 Concept a.k.a. the convertible version of the RC Coupe made quite a buzz at the 2014 LA Auto Show, but don’t make any plans folks as the Japanese manufacturer will not offer such a vehicle. Apparently, dealers requested for a three-row crossover and that’s why, the company had to put on hold the RC convertible.

So, Lexus is working on a three-row crossover, but what’s more interesting is that the upcoming vehicle will not use an extended version of the RX’s wheelbase, but the one used by the upcoming LS flagship sedan.

The rear-wheel-drive platform will allow Lexus to take on competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GL, Audi Q7 and the Infiniti QX80. Regarding its debut, the new Lexus crossover will arrive in three years, as a 2018 model year.

Journalists are not too interested to test drive the Lexus RC sports coupe

Although the new halo car for Lexus, it appears that the specialized media is not too interested in the new RC sports coupe. The Japanese company notified journalists that a new-car test-drive event was canceled and the reason is quite unusual: lack of interest. What’s more interesting is that both Japanese and non-Japanese media were invited.

For those who don’t know, the Lexus RC sports coupe was unveiled last year and is inspired by the LF-LC Concept. Lexus will offer its new coupe in two versions, the RC 350 powered by a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine with 306 hp (236 kW) and 227 lb-ft (375 lb-ft) of torque and the hybrid RC 300h, which uses a 2.5-liter engine.

The most powerful version of the RC Coupe will be the RC F Coupe. This model is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine which delivers more than 450 hp and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque.
